Evelyn A. Gould
Faulkton -- The memorial service for Evelyn A. Gould, 55, of Faulkton will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Faulkton. The Rev. Andrea Hoslett will officiate.
Burial of cremains will be in the Green Mound cemetery at Leola with Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., in charge of arrangements.
She died of natural causes on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Evelyn Audrey Fischer was born Sept. 15, 1945, to Henry and Alice (Leicht) Fischer in Aberdeen. She grew up and attended school in Leola. She did extensive traveling and lived in Australia.
She married
Lex Gould in March 1985 in Australia. He died in January 1995, and she returned to the United States. She lived and worked in Minneapolis. Upon becoming ill, she moved to Faulkton to be with her children and grandchildren.
She loved playing games, playing piano, sewing and painting.
Survivors include two daughters, Trintje A. (Randy) Bauer and Vikki L. (Todd) Drobny, both of Faulkton; her mother and stepfather, Otto and Alice Haupt of Aberdeen; two brothers, Glenn Fischer of Whitewood and Perry Fischer of Watertown; one sister, Gail Krein of Denver; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband and grandparents.
Bertha Delzer
Ashley, N.D. -- The funeral for Bertha Delzer, 98, of Ashley will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ashley Baptist Church. The Rev. Darwin Stahl will officiate.
Burial will be in the Venturia Baptist cemetery at Venturia, N.D. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home in Ashley and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
She died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Ashley Nursing Home.
Bertha Huber was born Aug. 3, 1902, to Frederich and Elizabeth (Bertsch) Huber southwest of Venturia. She grew up and attended country school in the Venturia area and worked on the family farm.
She married
Chris C. Delzer on March 30, 1929, at Bertsch Station Baptist Church in McPherson County. They made their home on the Huber family homestead southwest of Venturia. They raised small grains and livestock. In 1945 they retired into Ashley. In 1950 they purchased a farm one mile southeast of Lake Hoskins in McIntosh County, N.D. He died April 5, 1951, and she moved back to Ashley. She was a child day-care provider for several years. She entered the Ashley Nursing Home on Oct. 9, 1998.
She was a member of the Ashley Baptist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and visiting with friends.
Survivors include one son, Allen (Mary Lou) Delzer of Aberdeen; two daughters, Magdalena (Walter) Kost of Aberdeen and Darlene (Richard) Wolf of Wishek, N.D.; four stepdaughters, Edna Spiry of Fargo, N.D., Esther (Harold) Schnabel and Ella Kost, both of Ashley, and Lenora Delzer of Aberdeen; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant son and one infant daughter.
Casketbearers will be Wayne Schnabel of Sioux Falls, Delbert Kost and Keith Kost, both of Bismarck, N.D., Steve Kroh of Mandan, N.D., and Roger Delzer and Bryan Delzer, both of Aberdeen.
Harrold Slim' Arthur Bulian
Rapid City -- Harold 'Slim' Arthur Bulian, 78, of Rapid City died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Bay Pines Veterans Administration Hospital near Tampa, Fla.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Rapid City. Bishop Walter Jones will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis. Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel in Sturgis.
Harrold Arthur Bulian was born Sept. 17, 1922, to Emil Max and Rose (Brill) Bulian in Groton. He attended school in Groton and later worked for a farmer near Hecla. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. After his discharge, he returned to the Aberdeen area where he worked on a local farm. He later worked in the city of Aberdeen.
He married
Fern Young in 1949 in Rapid City. He worked at Dodgetown for many years. He retired in the 1970s and went to work at Robbinsdale Bowling Alley.
He was an active member of the Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his son Robert Bulian of Houston; one daughter, Connie (David) Gray of Palmetto, Fla.; two brothers, Edward Bulian of Downey, Calif., and Eugene Bulian of Yankton; two sisters, Gertrude Lee of Portland, Ore., and Helen Sheldon of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.

Ida Schultz
Mitchell -- Ida Schultz, 75, of Mitchell died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell.
Burial will be in Graceland cemetery in Mitchell. Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell is in charge of arrangements.
Ida Pfister was born Oct. 15, 1925, to Jacob and Pearl (Walker) Pfister at Grand Marais, Minn.
She married
Peter Nicolaisen in 1944.
She married
Calvin Schultz on Aug. 11, 1961, at Mitchell. She was employed with the telephone company in Mitchell for 12 years.
Survivors include her husband of Mitchell; one son, Stephen (Charlotte) Nicolaisen of Mitchell; one daughter, Paula (David) Guhin of Aberdeen; one half-sister, Jayne Backstrum of Proctor, Minn.; two stepbrothers, Leo Turner and Melvin Turner, both of Artesian; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Hilda E. Wanttie
Ellendale, N.D. -- The funeral for Hilda E. Wanttie, 91, of Ellendale and formerly of Frederick, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at State Line Apostolic Lutheran Church near Frederick. The Rev. Reino Maunu will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date in North Savo Apostolic Lutheran cemetery near Frederick. Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendale is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel in Ellendale.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel in Ellendale and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church near Frederick.
She died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.
Hilda E. Wanttie was born Oct. 25, 1909, to Abram and Anna (Marjamaa) West near Frederick. She attended rural school and the State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale.
She married
Albert Wanttie in 1927 in Britton. They farmed in the Frederick and Ellendale areas. They retired in 1980, and moved into Frederick. He died in November 1988. She became a resident of the Golden Rule Home in Ellendale in 1991. In 1994, she moved to the Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, where she resided until her death.
She was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church, homemakers clubs and the Frederick Senior Center.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin (Martha) Wanttie of Ellendale and Duane (Marlys) Wanttie of Alexandria, Minn.; two daughters, Shirley (Allen) Walker of Sun City, Ariz., and Lorraine Jenkins of Ellendale; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her her parents, her husband, one grandson in infancy, six brothers and seven sisters, including a twin sister in infancy.
Casketbearers will be Keith Jenkins, David Jenkins, Daryl Wanttie, Andra Jenkins, Kathy Homan and Carole Helmin.
Bernard R. Tomek Sr.
Aberdeen -- Mass of Christian burial for Bernard R. Tomek Sr., 83, of 1401 Mel Ros Drive, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Ave. S.E. The Rev. Terry Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., is in charge of arrangements.
A liturgical wake service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, all at the mortuary.
He died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Aberdeen Living Center.
Bernard Ray Tomek was born Dec. 2, 1917, to Ignace 'Eck' and Bebe (Connell) Tomek on the family farm west of Scatterwood Lake in Faulk County. His father died in 1917, and his mother died in 1918. He was raised by Lance and Pansy Harrington and lived on a farm northwest of Scatterwood Lake until age 13. He attended the rural Scatterwood Country School. In 1930, the family moved to live on the John Harrington farm. He lived there until 1934. He attended and graduated from Cresbard High School. He participated in football and basketball and worked on the farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. In 1934, he left the farm and moved to Aberdeen, where he worked as a substitute fireman and as a set up man at a local implement dealership. In late 1934, he moved to Fargo, N.D., where he attended Hansen Auto-Diesel School. While in Fargo, he also worked as a truck driver, cab driver and in the implement business. He later moved back to Aberdeen, where he worked at Doer's Cafe before working at Nelson Auto-Electric Company. He joined the South Dakota National Guard in 1939, where he was an instructor and rose to the rank of sergeant third class.
He married
Pearl M. Geier on June 12, 1941, in Webster. He served with the South Dakota National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1946. In 1954, he and his wife and John Vail formed a business called Sportsman Sales and Service Inc. His sons later joined the business. She died in February 1985. He remained active in the business until age 80.
During the 1950s, he was involved in many activities including obtaining a pilot's license and flying a Piper Cub. He was also instrumental in founding an archery club, motorcycle club, snowmobile club and sponsoring YMCA basketball teams. He also sponsored trapshooting teams. He was a lifetime Elks member and was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard (Elaine) Tomek Jr. of Aberdeen and Gerald (Carol) Tomek of Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers, Leonard Tomek of Bismarck, N.D., Jerald Harrington of Rochester, Minn., and Melvin Harrington of Stewartville, Minn.; two sisters, Doris Altringer of Valley City, N.D., and Maxine Bradbury of Lamoure, N.D.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Gerald Tomek Jr., Paul Eaton, Jack Schmidt, Brian Johnson, Richard LaBay Jr. and Mark Lemmon.
Jerry K. Thomas
Rapid City -- Jerry K. Thomas, 75, of Rapid City died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in a Rapid City nursing home.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Rapid City. The Rev. Steve Foss will officiate.
Burial will be in Pine Lawn cemetery in Rapid City. Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Jerry K. Thomas was born Nov. 7, 1925, to Howard and Anna (Sondergard) Thomas on a farm near Turton. He graduated from Conde High School in 1942 and attended the University of Minnesota for two years before joining the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to the University of Minnesota.
He married
Beverly Dickinson of Aberdeen on May 17, 1947. After earning a degree in civil engineering in 1948, they moved to Rapid City. He owned a consulting engineering firm.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Consulting Engineers Council. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge and held positions in the Royal Arch Masons, Grand Encampment of the Knights Templar of the United States, Grand Commandery, Scottish Rite, Red Cross of Constantine and Rapid City Shrine Club.Survivors include his wife of Rapid City; one son, David (Joanne)Thomas of Moorestown, N.J.; one daughter, Linda (D.J.) Scharrel of Westminster, Colo.; and two brothers, Bill Thomas and Steve Thomas.

Harley H. Hoffman
Mina -- The funeral for Harley H. Hoffman, 65, of Mina will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1429 N. Dakota St., Aberdeen. The Rev. Roger Noer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
He died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.
Harley H. Hoffman was born June 8, 1935, to John and Johanna (Zenker) Hoffman in Leola. He attended rural school near Long Lake and graduated from Leola High School in 1953. He then attended Northern State College and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1960.
He married
Sharlene Koerner on June 8, 1958, at Leola. He graduated from Realtors Institute. He owned and operated H.H. Hoffman Realty in Aberdeen for 30 years. He ranched in McPherson and Edmunds County. He also did site selection for Super 8 Motels and securing financing for the parent Super 8 Motels, Inc. for 2 1/2 years.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was United Way drive chairman, President and Board of Directors of YMCA and President of Northern State College Alumni Association. He was a member of Chamber of Commerce Industrial Development and Agriculture Committee and Aberdeen Elks Club. He was a chartered Life Underwriter of American College of Life Underwriters, named to Who's Who in the Midwest, President and member of Board of Directors for the Aberdeen Board of Realtors, Aberdeen Board Realtor of the year, State of South Dakota Realtor of the year, past state president of South Dakota Board of Realtors, national director and member from South Dakota to National Association of Realtors, Realtors Land Institute, member of Omega Tau Rho Fraternity of National Association of Realtors. He also served on the board of directors for the Salvation Army and he graduated from Dale Carnegie Course.
He enjoyed flying planes, traveling, hunting, RV travel and fishing, especially on the Missouri River.
Survivors include his wife of Mina; four sons, Blake (Marcia) Hoffman of Sioux Falls, Jon (Carla) Hoffman of Aberdeen, Gregory (Leanne) Hoffman of Mina, and Timothy (Lori) Hoffman of Rapid City; one daughter, Monica (Iver) Gibbs of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Allen Hoffman of Aberdeen and Charles Hoffman of Leola; three sisters, Gertrude Koenig of Richmond, Calif., Ester Retzer of Aberdeen, and Frances Lacher of Zeeland, N.D.; and seven grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Larry Schock, Myron Retzer, Aaron Hoffman, Karley Hoffman, Harley Lacher and Levi Koerner.
