Myrtle M. Fiedler
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Myrtle M. Fiedler, 84, of 1224 S. High St., will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1429 N. Dakota St. The Rev. Steve Meyer will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the mortuary.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
She died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Myrtle M. Crawford was born July 30, 1916, to George and Irene (Hansen) Crawford near Aberdeen, where she grew up and attended rural schools.
She married
Samuel John Fiedler on Aug. 30, 1937, in Columbia. They farmed in the Aberdeen area for many years. She was employed with Americana Nursing Home as dietary department head from 1963 to 1978. She received a certificate in dietary management from Presentation College in 1969. He died in February 1998 and she continue to make Aberdeen her home.
She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was active with Ladies Aid. She later became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she was active with church groups and activities.
Survivors include one son, Jerry (Donna) Fiedler of Bath; three daughters, Louise (Douglas) Peterson of Sioux Falls, Connie (Ted) Bell of Aberdeen, and Ardell (Glenn) Giefer of Marshall, Minn.; four brothers, Luverne Crawford of Seal Beach, Calif., Dale Crawford and Arlye Crawford, both of Aberdeen, and Orville Crawford of Frederick; three sisters, Evelyn Schaunaman and Arlene Schaunaman, both of Aberdeen, and Doris F0elix of Arlington; 12 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren.
Bill Jacobs
Webster -- The funeral for Bill Jacobs, 49, of Webster will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Webster. The Rev. Dale Emery will officiate.
Burial will be in the Webster cemetery with military rites by Herbert McKennett American Legion Post No. 40 of Webster. Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. There will also be visitation prior to the service Saturday at the church.
He died of natural causes Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his home following a long illness.
William David Jacobs was born Aug. 30, 1951, to David and Florence (Todd) Jacobs in Los Angeles. He attended various elementary schools around the country because his father was in the military. He graduated from Red River High School in Minot, N.D., in 1969. At age 18, he entered the U.S. Navy and served two tours in Vietnam. After his discharge he came to South Dakota.
He married
Winneva Vlietstra on Aug. 9, 1975, in Mitchell. They made their home in the Mitchell area, where he attended Mitchell Vo-Tech and earned a degree in plumbing. In 1977, the couple moved to Webster, where he was employed at Peterson & Hay Company as a plumber. In 1984, he started his own plumbing business and operated it until he became ill.
He was a member of Herbert McKennett American Legion Post No. 40 of Webster and Webster Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4690. He was a past commander of both organizations.
He enjoyed target shooting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of Webster; one son, Todd Jacobs of Colman; one daughter, Bonnie Jacobs of Sioux Falls; his parents of Wichita Falls, Texas; one sister, Susan Keating of Wichita Falls; and his maternal grandparents, George and Annie Todd of Kingman, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
Casketbearers will be Gene Fellbaum, Doug Fellbaum, Bill Christensen, Gene Erickson, Jeff Vlietstra and Leon Breske.
Robert Bob' Marske
Andover -- The funeral for Robert 'Bob' Marske, 74, of Andover will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Andover. The Rev. Lloyd Redhage will officiate.
Burial will be in the Andover cemetery with Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight at the church in Andover.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home in Webster. There will also be visitation prior to the prayer service this evening and prior to the funeral Saturday, both at the church in Andover.
He died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident near Groton.
Robert Kenneth Marske was born July 10, 1926, to Ernest and Louise (Hayenga) Marske in Andover. He attended school in Andover and graduated from Andover High School in 1944.
He married
Leone Root on Dec. 23, 1944, in Andover. They made their home and farmed south of Andover. In 1959, he began work at James Valley Cooperative Telephone Company in Groton as an installer and repairman. He worked there until retiring in 1988. He and his wife also owned and operated Marske Lounge in Andover since 1972.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, James Valley Two-Cylinder Club and James Valley Threshing Association.
He was an avid hunter. He played amateur baseball and basketball, and bowled. He was the first person drafted by the National Basketball Association without going to college. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors in the seventh round in the 1953 NBA draft. He was one of state's premier amateur players. He led Andover to the state high school tournament in 1944. In addition to helping form the state amateur basketball association, he helped lead Andover to five state amateur titles from 1950 to 1954. In 1963, he was named the state's Independent Athlete of the Year. He was inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame March 14, 1980, and the South Dakota Amateur Basketball Association Hall of Fame in 1972.
Survivors include his wife of Andover; one son, Jim Marske of Aberdeen; two daughters, Dodie (Bob) Bemis of Watertown, and Mary Lou Gauer of Bowdle; one brother, Richard Marske of Andover; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children in infancy, two brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Donnie Hein, Bert Raap, Charles Raap, Jerry Raap, Robert Voss and Paul Keup.
Mary Esther (Van Scoyoc) Dingwell
Lakewood, Calif. -- Mary Esther (Van Scoyoc) Dingwell, 93, of Lakewood and formerly of Aberdeen, died March 6, 2001.
Arrangements and cremation were by White-Emerson Mortuary in Whittier, Calif.
Mary Esther Van Scoyoc was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Iowa.
She married
Everett Dingwell. They lived in Aberdeen until 1942, when they moved to Lakewood.
Survivors include three sons, Everett (Lenny) Dingwell of Naples, Calif., Douglas Dingwell of Buena Park, Calif., and Donald (Debra) Dingwell of Lakewood; two daughters, Judith Ann (Jim) Nelson of Fallbrook, Calif., and Sherry Lee (Jim) Spurlock of Laguna Hills, Calif.; one brother, Harold Van Scoy of Aberdeen; one sister, Gin Pidema of Victor, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Kathryn Reddin
Oakes, N.D. -- Mass of Christian burial for Kathryn Reddin, 96, of Oakes and formerly of Cogswell, N.D., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Cogswell. The Rev. Francis Q. Arthur will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery in Cogswell with Price Funeral Chapel in Forman, N.D., in charge of arrangements.
A vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight at the church in Cogswell.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral chapel in Forman. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the vigil service tonight and for one hour prior to the funeral Saturday, both at the church in Cogswell.
She died Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Oakes Community Hospital.
Kathryn Frances Steinbach was born Dec. 17, 1904, to Christian and Mary (Zuber) Steinbach in Cogswell. She grew up near Cogswell and attended rural Sargent County schools. She graduated from Cogswell High School. She later received her teacher's certificate in Ellendale, N.D., and taught country schools for a few years.
She married
Earl R. Reddin on July 24, 1927, in Lake City. They lived in Cogswell all of their married
life and farmed in the Cogswell area. She later worked as a cook at the Corner Cafe in Cogswell. He died May 5, 1984, and she continued to make her home in Cogswell until June 1996. At that time she moved to the Oakes Good Samaritan Center and was a resident there at the time of her death.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Cogswell and had been active in the Christian Mothers organization. She served for many years as the church organist.
She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. She was also known for her needlework ability and had done many embroidery projects.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty (Harry) Smith of Cogswell, and Patricia (Kenneth) Ferguson of Dillon, Colo.; one sister, Emma O'Neil of Oakes; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, one grandson, one granddaughter, one brother and one sister.
Casketbearers will be John Hayen, Lyle Bopp, Doran Kersting, Dennis Dockter, Roy Lamb and Harris Anderson.
Sister Kieran Buckley
Aberdeen -- Sister Kieran Buckley, 100, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Heights. The Rev. Ben Benzinger will officiate.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery with Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., in charge of arrangements.
A wake service will be at 7 tonight at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel.
Johanna Buckley was born Dec. 15, 1900, to John and Hanna (Coughlan) Buckley in Kinsale County, Cork, Ireland. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen in 1949. She entered Presentation Convent on Sept. 21, 1920. She made her profession of vows in the Presentation congregation on Aug. 15, 1923. Her mission of service as a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was in the education ministry. She served in South Dakota parish schools for 56 years. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she taught at Sacred Heart School in Aberdeen. From 1971 to 1983 she worked as a teacher and then as a tutor at St. Mary's School in Dell Rapids. She began her teaching career in 1927 and served in Milbank, Jefferson, Woonsocket and Bridgewater.
She enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching educational programs on television.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
Casketbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
Clara Stavig
Roslyn -- The funeral for Clara Stavig, 94, of Roslyn will be at 1 p.m. today at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn. The Rev. Vernon Severson will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be prior to the service today at the church.
She died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn.
Clara Olava Ronshaugen was born June 25, 1906, to Petter and Marit (Aspeslaen) Ronshaugen, early Norwegian pioneers, on the family farm in Raritan Township, Day County. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1926.
She married
Julius Stavig on Nov. 29, 1936. They made their home on the Ronshaugen family homestead. They farmed on the family farm and retired there. He died in February 1980. She continued to live on the farm until 1983, when she moved to Webster. She often spent the winter months living with her daughters in Colorado. In September 1999, she moved to the Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn.
She was a longtime member of Fron Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies' groups, made quilts for Lutheran World Relief and coordinated many projects that benefited the needy.
She was known for her Norwegian pastries and breads. She also loved quilting and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen (Michael Mason) Stavig of Denver and Irene Anderson of Englewood, Colo.; one sister, Minda Hall of Alexandria, Minn.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, seven brothers and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Robert Estwick, Howard Ronshaugen, Stephen Ronshaugen, Eldon Stavig, Roger Stavig and Marvin Stavig.

Esther Bender
Mobridge -- The funeral for Esther Bender, 92, of Mobridge will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church at Linton, N.D. The Rev. David Warner will officiate.
Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. in the Linton cemetery. Myers Funeral Home of Linton is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
She died Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Mobridge Care Center.
Esther Ochsner was born May 25, 1908, to Fredrick and Christine (Haidle) Ochsner in Winona, N.D. When she was 12, she moved with her family to Linton.
She married
Edward Bender on Aug. 7, 1929. They made their home on a farm two miles northwest of the Bender family farm. In 1971, they retired and moved to Linton. He died Jan. 9, 1996. She entered the Strasburg, N.D., Nursing Home in October 1996. She later moved to the Mobridge Care Center.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and walking.
Survivors include one son, Leslie (Cynthia) Bender of Blaine, Minn.; five daughters, Dolores (Donald) Jenkins and Virginia Kremer, both of Linton, Grace (Edward) Wold of Salem, Va., Lorna Gimbel of San Francisco and Elvira (Ray) Behrens of Wheatridge, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
Casketbearers will be her grandsons: Kent Kremer, Aaron Gimbel, Jason Bender, Phillip Bender, Troy Bender and Jeff Wold.
