BARBARA B. HOFF

Barbara B. Hoff, age 85 of Aberdeen, died Thursday, March 24, 1994 at the
Bethesda Home in Aberdeen.

funeral services were held Monday, march 28, at the Fist Presbyterian Church,
Aberdeen with the Rev. Bill Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Sunset
Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home of
Aberdeen.

Barbara Bertha Benz was born Dec. 6, 1908 in Long Lake to John and Christina
(Brandner) Bentz. She grew up and attended rural school in the Danzig, N.D.,
area. She married Emil M. Hoff on Jan. 1q2, 1928 in Eureka.

They made their home on the Hoff homestead and farmed there until 1951.
Together and they owned and operated restaurants in Eureka and Bowdle known as
Hoff's Cafe. In 1958 they moved to Aberdeen where Mr. Hoff was a contractor. He
died April 29, 1988 at Aberdeen and Barbara Hoff continued to make Aberdeen her
home.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen.

She is survived by four daughters: Priscilla Pfeifle of Aberdeen; Salonia Wendt
of Largo, Fla..; Katherine Undlin of Las Vegas, Nev. and Shirley Bucholz of
Gillette, Wyo.; two brothers: Edmund Bentz of Ashley, N.D. and ElRoy Bentz of
San Jose, Cal.; five sisters: Emma Mohr of Bylas, Az.; Ida Horning of
Hawthorne, CA; Edna Mattax of W. Sacramento, Ca.; Lydia Schnable of Eureka and
Glendora Klein of Circle, Mt.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, three infant
sons, one infant daughter, two sisters and two brothers.

VINCENT M. KARST

Vincent M. Karst, age 77 of Hoven, died Aug. 8, 1995 at Holy Infant Hospital in
Hoven.

Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 11, at St. Anthony's Catholic church, Hoven
with the Rev. William Osborn officiating. Burial followed at the church
cemetery at Hoven under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.

Vincent M. Karst was born Oct. 10, 1917 at Hoven to Joseph and Elizabeth
(Edrich) Karst. this is where he grew up and attended school. He lived on the
family farm until he was 11 years old, when the family moved to Hoven.

He enjoyed playing center field for the Hoven baseball team. He worked for
various farmers and in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills in
1939.

He married Eleanor M. Baus at Hoven on Sept. 29, 1941. They farmed in the
Wilmot and Peever area for three years. In 1944 they moved to a farm near
Bowdle until 1977 when they retired and moved to Hoven.

He enjoyed gardening, baseball, fishing, playing pool at the Senior Center,
spending time with his family and especially fishing with his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hoven; Catholic Order of
Foresters, Hoven; Hoven Senior Center; Director of the Bowdle Equity Exchange;
Board Member of Odessa Township; and School Board Member of Odessa Township
School.

Survivors include his wife of Hoven; two sons: Bill Karst of Bellevue, ID; and
Robert Karst of Aberdeen; one daughter; Mrs. Donald (Betty) Davis of Ipswich;
one sister: Mrs. Julia Guggenberger of Cold Spring, MN; 12 grandchildren, and
two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, five brothers, and three
sisters.

Casket bearers were Don Karst and Dan Karst of Bellevue, ID; Dough Karst of
Aberdeen; Jason Davis and Justin Davis of Ipswich; and Kelly Stevens of
Faulkton.

DARRYL REEDER

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Schumacher of Eureka accompanied Beulah Schumacher of Bowdle
to Garden City, KS, where they attended the funeral of Darryl Reeder on July
27. Reeder, age 43, was killed in a car accident. He was married to Cloris
Schumacher, daughter of Beulah and the late Norman Schumacher.

Cloris Reeder gave birth to a baby girl on July 28, 1995. She weighted 7
pounds, 15 1/2 ounces and 21 inches long and was given the name Kara Nicole.

Owen and Joy Schumacher and Branden Reeder accompanied the Schumachers back
home.

DELBERT E. SCHELY

Delbert E. Schley, age 65, of Selby, died Monday, Oct 25, 193 at Medcenter One
in Bismarck, ND His funeral was Friday, Oct. 29, at St. John Lutheran Church at
Selby with the Rev. Hugh Brewer officiating.

Burial was at sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen under the direction of Miller
Funeral Home of Bowdle.

Delbert E. Schley was born Oct 25, 1928 to Edwin and Edna (Nolden) Schley at
Stratford. He attended school in the area, graduating from Stratford high
School with the Class of 1946. He then worked on the family farm.

He married Esther M. Helgeson Sept. 24, 1948, at Aberdeen. they lived on the
family farm until 1961 when they moved to Selby. He drove Eddy's Bread Truck
route until he became involved with Amoco Oil and became a Jobber dealer,
establishing Del's Amoco in 1964. He remained active in the business the
remainder of his life.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Selby. He was a former Selby
City Council member and had been a member of Lake Hiddenwood Sportsman's Club.
He was a member of the Selby Commercial Club and served on the Board of South
Dakota Petroleum Marketers. His hobbies included fishing, camping, and bowling.

He is survived by his wife of Selby; two sons: Danny Schley of St. Peters, MO
and Doyle Schley of Selby; two daughters: Ellen Renner and Estelle Schley of
Aberdeen; two sisters: Eugenia Schley and Alberta Huff of St. Charles, MO and
six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.

Pallbearers were James Knecht, Chuck Birkholt, Tom Mikklos ;and Jack Lemburg of
Selby; Roy Hoff of Mobridge and Don Kaul of Aberdeen.

MILTON J. GROSS

Milton J. Gross, age 77, of Bowdle, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1993, at the Bowdle
Hospital.

His funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Evangel United Methodist Church in
Bowdle with the Rev. Victor Gross officiating. Burial followed at the Bowdle
City Cemetery under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.

Milton J. Gross was born Dec. 19, 1915 at Bowdle to John A. and Barbara
(Stahlecker) Gross. He attended country school south of Bowdle and then Bowdle
High School. In 1936 he attended mechanical school at Kansas City, MO.
Following mechanical school he moved back home and worked at the Ford Garage in
Bowdle for one year.

He married Mary Hopfinger on Nov. 26, 1939 at Bowdle. They moved to a farm five
miles south and two miles west of Bowdle. They farmed there until retiring in
1975 when they moved to Bowdle. although retired, he helped at the Ford Garage
in Bowdle for a short time.

He was a faithful member of the Tolstoy Wesleyan Church where he taught Sunday
School and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Bowdle Senior
Citizens.

He and his wife were members of the Port Susan Camping Club in Marysville, WA.
For the last 15 years they camped out in Washington twice a year. He also
enjoyed playing accordion and often played at church.

He is survived by his wife of Bowdle; three sons: Harverd M. Gross of Edmonds,
WA; Duane R. Gross of Hammon, WI and Larry D. Gross of Seattle, WA; three
daughters: Mrs. Art (DeLaine E.) Nehlich of Ipswich; Mrs. Richard (Janice M.)
Schumacher of Leola and Mrs. bob (Cynthia L.) Rausch of Belle Fourche; three
brothers: the Rev. LeRoy Gross of Watertown, WI; Norman Gross and the Rev.
Victor Gross of Bowdle; one sister: Mrs. A. James (Regina) Breitling of
Ipswich; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one great-grandson,
both in infancy.

ERVIN BOLLINGER

Ervin (Erv) Bollinger, age 60 of Webster and formerly of Bowdle, died Tuesday,
Nov. 2, 1993, at the Lake Area Hospital in Webster.

His funeral was Friday, Nov. 5, at the Webster United Methodist Church with the
Rev.. Bruce Gray officiating. Burial was Friday afternoon at the Bowdle City
Cemetery in Bowdle with the Rev. Orland Sloat of Bowdle officiating.

Ervin Robert Bollinger was born July 25, 1933 at Bowdle to Fred and Kathryn
(Merkel) Bollinger. He attended school in Bowdle and graduated from Bowdle High
School with the Class of 1951. He then worked for two years at the Bowdle
Creamery.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 where he served in Germany. He married Shirley
Elaine Stotz on Feb. 18, 1954, at Bowdle. when he was honorably discharged in
1955, the family moved to Denver, CO, where he worked for Carlson-Frink
Creamery. Later they moved to Bowdle where he was employed at Bowdle State
Bank. In 1966 they moved to Webster, where he was employed at Security Bank and
Trust until 1989, when he retired for health reasons. He became a resident of
Bethesda Home at Webster in April, 1992.

He was a member of the Webster United Methodist Church, Webster Kiwanis Club,
and the American Legion. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman and a
Webster Bearcat Booster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter; one sister, and two
brothers.

He is survived by his wife of Webster; two sons and their wives; Bruce and Kae
Bollinger of Sulphur Springs, TX; Kip and Nancy Bollinger of Pittsburg, KS; one
brother: Ruben Bollinger of Bowdle; one sister: Rose Reiprich of Webster and
one granddaughter: Morgan Leigh Bollinger of Sulphur Springs, TX.

ADAM THOMAS

Adam Thomas, age 83, of Bowdle, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1993 at the Bowdle
Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Augustine's Catholic
Church in Bowdle with Father Richard Fox officiating.

Burial followed at St. Augustine's Catholic Church Cemetery in Bowdle with
Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.

Adam Thomas was born July 1, 1910 northeast of Bowdle to August and Katherine
(Senger) Thomas. He attended rural school through the eighth grade northeast of
Bowdle. He then farmed with his parents.

He married Jennie Malsom on May 21, 1935 at Hillsview. They farmed with his
parents until 1937 when they purchased a farm northeast of Bowdle and lived
there until 1977 when they retired and moved into Bowdle.

He remained in Bowdle the remainder of his life. He was a member of St.
Augustine's Catholic Church in Bowdle. He was a board member of Rural Bowdle
School District 9 1/2 for 12 years. He also served as a director on the Bowdle
Equity Elevator Board and was also on the Bowdle Township Board.

His main hobby was his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his
grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of Bowdle; three sons: Donald D. Thomas, Joseph J.
Thomas and Norbert N. Thomas, all of Bowdle; five daughters: Mrs. Bernice M.
(Ray) Mohr of Hosmer; Mrs. Vivian K. (Wilbert) Malsam, Mrs. Dolorita M. (Bruce)
Huber and Mrs. Pauline M. (Ernie) Mertz, all of Bowdle and Sister Mary M.
Thomas of West Lafayette, IN; three brothers: Anton Thomas and August Thomas of
Bowdle and Walter Thomas of Las Vegas, NV; 29 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters, one of
which was in infancy.

Pallbearers were Richard Mohr and Melvin Malsam of Aberdeen; Donald Mohr of
Huron; Marvin Malsam and Eric Thomas of Bowdle and Kelly Thomas of SDSU at
Brookings.

MARIE GUSTAFSON

The funeral for Marie Gustafson, age 83, of Brows Valley, MN, was held
Saturday, June 26, at St.. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural St. Hilaire, MN, with
the Rev. Terri Skildum officiating.

Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery at Thief River Falls, MN, with the green
Funeral Home, Inc., in charge of arrangements.

She died June 22, 1993, at St. Luke's Midland Regional Medical Center at
Aberdeen as the result of an automobile accident.

Marie Charlotte Peterson was born on the homestead in Smiley Township,
Pennington county, MN, March 19, 1910, to Oscar J. and Emma (Skaug) Peterson.
she was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural St. Hilaire,
MN.

She attended rural school, later graduating from Lincoln High School in 1927.
She received her teacher's training in Thief River Falls, MN and taught at
School District #221.

She was united in marriage to Gustaf Gustafson Sept. 15, 1932 at Glasgow, MT.
The couple returned to Smiley Township where they farmed. He died July 28,
1982. She was residing in Browns Valley, MN, at the time of her death. She was
very active in church work her entire life.

Survivors include two daughters: Elinor Wiskow and her husband, Water of Browns
Valley, MN; Melba Lundeen and her husband Erling of Spicer, MN; seven
grandchildren: Mark Lundeen and Lana Ferry of Spicer, MN; Kathy Neil and her
husband Bill of Bloomington, IL; Karen Ellis and her husband Jeff of Blue
Mound, WI; Steven Wiskow of Savage, MN; Suellen Wiskow of Ham Lake, MN and Sara
Wiskow of Browns Valley, MN; 11 great-grandchildren: Deanna, Brian, Amanda,
Nicole and Kevin Ferry' Matthew and David Neil; Joshua and Katie Ellis; and
Rachel and Katie Austad; sisters: Evelyn Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN;
Deloris Bishop and her husband, Burford of Arcadia, CA and Norma Womack and her
husband Walt of Sacrament, CA; one brother: Julius Peterson and his wife Cleone
of Hood, CA, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and three
brothers.
