Stanley Roach
Redfield -- Mass of Christian burial for Stanley Roach, 77, of Redfield will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. The Rev. Roger Geditz will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Bernard's cemetery in Redfield. Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield is in charge of arrangements.
A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Closed-casket visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Redfield.
Survivors include his wife of Redfield; one son, Vince Roach of Redfield; three daughters, Kim Roach of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Coby Roach of Dallas, Texas, and Kia (David) Smith of Englewood, Colo.; one brother, Robert Roach of Miller; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Darrell K. Nack
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Darrell K. Nack, 69, of Aberdeen will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. N.E. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
He died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Darrell K. Nack was born Nov. 24, 1931, to Walter A. and Vesta (VanRiper) Nack in Aberdeen. He grew up on the family farm near Ferney. He attended West Hansen Country School through the eighth grade and then attended Groton High School, graduating in 1949. He spent a year working on the farm before entering the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 4, 1951. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on Oct. 29, 1954. He returned to Groton and began working at Gage Brothers in Aberdeen until April 1955.
He married
Marlis Larsen on June 12, 1955, at Groton. They made their home in Aberdeen. He continued to work for Gage Brothers for the next 41 years, retiring as manager in 1996.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sertoma Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Elks.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening and visiting his lake cabin.
Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; two sons, Lonnie (Nancy) Nack of Aberdeen, and Brad (Kim) Nack of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Cathie (Pat) Murphy and Laurie (Francis) Baumgartner, both of Aberdeen; one sister, Deanna Hendrickson of Groton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Hendrickson, Paul Daschel, Joey Kaven, Mike Salo, Ron Sitter and Leonard Kline.

Gertrude A. Gauer
Ipswich -- Mass of Christian burial for Gertrude A. Gauer, 84, of Ipswich will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. The Rev. Thomas Clement will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.
A liturgical wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, all at the funeral home. There will also be visitation from 6 p.m. until the conclusion of the wake service Monday at the church.
She died Friday, April 27, 2001, at her home.
Gertrude Agatha Heinz was born March 23, 1917, to Herman and Susan (Pitz) Heinz northwest of Ipswich. At an early age, she moved with her parents to a farm south of Craven Corner, southeast of Ipswich. She attended rural school and then Holy Cross school in Ipswich.
She married
Joseph L. Gauer on June 22, 1937. They farmed southeast of Ipswich until their retirement. In 1998, they moved into Ipswich.
She was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She enjoyed helping others, sewing and working in her garden.
Survivors include her husband of Ipswich; three daughters, Luverne Thares of Rapid City, and Patricia (Carroll) Brick and Helen (Bob) Karst, both of Aberdeen; three sons, Joseph A. (Ann) Gauer, Lenny (Gail) Gauer and Clarence (Linda) Gauer, all of Ipswich; three brothers, Cletus Heinz, Lawrence Heinz and Francis Heinz, all of Ipswich; five sisters, Lucille Braun and Viola Weber, both of Ipswich, Marcella Strudle of Aberdeen, Valera Braun of Hawthorne, Calif., and Evelyn Bulian of Yankton; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 18 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Brad Gauer, Scott Thares, Jason Gauer, Doug Karst, Aaron Brick and Charles Gauer.
Allen A. Acker
Aberdeen -- The graveside service for Allen A. Acker, 43, of 211 Fifth Curve, Lakeside Estates, will be at a later date in the Bushnell National cemetery at Bushnell, Fla., with full military honors. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., is in charge of arrangements.
He died April 26, 2001, at his home.
Allen A. Acker was born Sept. 5, 1957, to Allen and Mary Ann (Ray) Acker in Clearwater, Fla. He attended Dunedin High School in Dunedin, Fla. He entered the U.S. Marines on July 24, 1975. His tour of duty included being stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He rose to the rank of lance corporal. He received his honorable discharge Aug. 31, 1979.
He married
Christine L. Enger on Feb. 9, 1991, at Aberdeen. He was a welder and was employed with Al's Specialty at the time of his death.
Survivors include his father of Marystown, Tenn.; his mother of Safety Harbor, Fla.; one son, Adam A. Acker of Aberdeen; one daughter, Ashley A. Acker of Aberdeen; two sisters, Sherry L. Cameron and Terri Durgen, both of New Port Richie, Fla.; and his maternal grandmother, Anna Costa of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.
Paulina Bertsch
Wishek, N.D. -- The funeral for Paulina Bertsch, 93, of Wishek and formerly of Ashley, N.D., will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. The Rev. Jeff Giles will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Carlsen Funeral Home in Ashley is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
She died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Wishek Nursing Home.
Paulina Wagner was born Jan. 17, 1908, to Phillipp and Christina (Hess) Wagner northeast of Ashley in Dickey County. She grew up and attended country school in the Wirch, N.D., area. She helped on the family homestead.
She married
Gottfried Bertsch on Feb. 19, 1927, east of Ashley. In 1928, they purchased the Bertsch family homestead, where they raised small grains and livestock. They retired in 1965, and continued to live on the homestead until 1969, when they moved into Ashley. He died Dec. 30, 1982. She continued to live in Ashley until November 1998, when she entered the Wishek Nursing Home.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Survivors include one daughter, A. Pearl (Clarence L.) Wetzel of Ashley; one brother, Ben Wagner of Ellendale, N.D.; one sister, Hilda Bertsch of Aberdeen; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
Casketbearers will be LeRoy Bertsch of Jamestown, N.D., Clifford Bertsch of Oakes, N.D., Kenny Wagner of Bismarck, N.D., Clyde Wetzel of Ashley, Tim Renz of Hazelton, N.D., and Harley Wagner of Ellendale.
Clara Johnson
Selby -- The funeral for Clara Johnson, 92, of Selby will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Selby. The Rev. Lance Yohe will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Church cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bethany Lutheran Church near Mound City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Mobridge. There will also be visitation beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bethany Lutheran Church near Mound City.
She died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
Clara Agnes Johnson was born Aug. 11, 1908, to Endre and Thea (Eckley) Johnson in Fairview Township, Campbell County. She attended grade school at the Kuehl School in rural Campbell County and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1928.
She married
Victor John Johnson on June 11, 1935, in Moe. They made their home on a farm near Mound City.
In fall 1998, she moved into the Prairie Sunset Village in Mobridge. She moved to the Selby Good Samaritan Center in December 2000.
She was active in 4-H as a supporter and leader. She was also active in the Bethany Church Ladies Aide, serving on the Sunshine committee for many years. She was a longtime member of the Fairview Extension Club. She was a charter member of the Fair Valley Garden Club and spent many years working in the club's roadside garden near Mound City. She also made yearbooks for club members. She co-chaired the Kuehl School Reunion in 1977.
She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening, especially flowers. Throughout the years she baked and decorated angel food cakes for family and friends. She was known for sending cards to people.
Survivors include her three sons, Lloyd (Ruby) Johnson of Mobridge, Ken (Donna) Johnson of Rollag, Minn., and Dean (Nancy) Johnson of Mound City; two daughters, Mavis (Vince) Dahlgren of Timber Lake, and LaVida (Zane) Dickinson of Chadron, Neb.; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son in infancy, two sisters, one brother and one great-grand- daughter.
Casketbearers will be Wade Johnson, Keith Dahlgren, Derek Dickinson, David Johnson, Dennis Johnson and Lyndel Johnson.
Daniel M. Reis
Waterloo, Iowa -- Daniel M. Reis, 81, of Waterloo and formerly of Aberdeen, died of natural causes Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa.
His service was held April 4 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo with military rites by AMVETS Post No. 49 of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls was in charge of arrangements.
Daniel M. Reis was born May 16, 1919, to Joseph and Mary (Kraft) Reis in Napoleon, N.D.
He married
Maxine Kienast on Oct. 15, 1947, in Aberdeen. He was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Aberdeen for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of Waterloo; two sons, Bruce Reis of Missoula, Mont., and Mark Reis of Waterloo; four brothers, John Reis of Aberdeen, Joe Reis of Sioux Falls, Al Reis of Hot Springs, Ark., and Mike Reis of Anaheim, Calif.; three sisters, Margaret Dutenoffer of Aberdeen, Odelia Burgod of Long Beach, Calif., and Mary Reis of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Charles William Johnston
Robbinsdale, Minn. -- Charles William Johnston, infant son of Aaron Johnston and Nicki Erlenbusch, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Robbinsdale due to a rare medical condition.
His memorial service will be at noon Monday at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapels in Robbinsdale.
A burial service was held May 12.
He was born March 6, 2001, in Minneapolis.
Survivors include his parents of Robbinsdale; his grandparents, Don and Linda Erlenbusch of Aberdeen, Lola McDaniel and Tom Knudson; his great-grandparents, Coke and Naomi Nelson, AnnMay and Marion Johnston, Hulda Erlenbusch and Ernest and Mary Kay Wingen.
Alice M. Larson
Pierpont -- The funeral for Alice M. Larson, 84, of Pierpont will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. The Rev. Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. Burial will be in the Falnes cemetery near Langford with Price Funeral Chapel in Britton in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church in Langford.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel in Britton. There will also be visitation from 6:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the prayer service Monday and for one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday, all at the church in Langford.
She died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton after a long battle with cancer.
Alice Mabel Johnson was born April 25, 1917, to Olaf and Hattie (Waage) Johnson in Winger, Minn. In 1920, she moved with her family to Langford and lived on her grandparents' farm. They later moved to a farm one mile east of Falnes Lutheran Church. She attended Harmony Hill 202 School through the eighth grade.
She married
Clifford M. Larson of Langford on June 30, 1937. They farmed in Independence Township, Day County until 1986, when they moved to Pierpont. He died Dec. 1, 1991, and she continued to make her home in Pierpont.
She was a member of Falnes Lutheran Church. She was president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women for 12 years and president and treasurer of Naomi Circle. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent for many years.
She loved baking and decorating cakes. She also enjoyed making quilts for Lutheran Relief and her family and gardening.
Survivors include four sons, Clark Larson and Dale (Bonnie) Larson, both of Langford, Dennis (Shirley) Larson of Groton, and Roger (Diane) Larson of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Joyce (Andy) Skovran of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Ann Johnson of Rapid City, and Marlyce Miller of Amery, Wis.; two brothers, Orlyn Johnson of Pharr, Texas, and Virgil Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses.
