Ray E. Olson
Clark - The funeral for Raymond Elwood Olson, 64, of Clark will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clark. The Rev. Dan Hooks will officiate.
Burial will be in the Clark Center Lutheran cemetery. Furness Funeral Home of Clark is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and before the service Wednesday at the church.
He died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Ray Elwood Olson was born on Feb. 7, 1937, to Rudolph and Nancy (Berg) Olson. He attended Hayti schools and then worked on the family farm. He farmed with his brother, Quentin Olson, until the early 1970s. He was also employed at the Big Sioux Nursery, Wal-Mart and Watertown Iron and Metal, all in Watertown.
He married
Jean Alness on June 24, 2000, in Clark. They lived in Sioux Falls and on a farm in Garfield Township.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown.
He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time on the farm.
Survivors include his wife of Clark; one son, Jeff (Kim) Olson of Clark; five sisters, Ardell (Gerald) Dede of Bryant, Donna (Dale) Bradshaw and Beverly (Chuck) Linneman, both of Watertown, Lou (Wally) Abbott of Bismarck, N.D., and Judy (Roger) Brekke of Mesa, Ariz. and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers will be Art Lynch, Brock Greenfield, Walter Pederson, Duane Wallen, Francis Knocke and Fay Florey.
Wesley E. Kjosa
Aberdeen - The funeral for Wesley E. Kjosa, 59, of 1303 S. Seventh St., will be at 1 p.m. today at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 431 W. Melgaard Road. The Rev. Guy Stone will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Sioux Falls with military honors by American Legion Post No. 15 of Sioux Falls. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church.
He died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his home in Aberdeen.
Wesley E. Kjosa was born on Oct. 28, 1941 to Orlando and Arline (Hemmingson) Kjosa. He grew up on a farm in the Lily-Butler area, where he attended country school. He graduated from Bristol High School in 1959. He entered the Army on Jan. 12, 1962, and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on Jan. 4, 1965, with the rank of sergeant.
He married
Joyce Wartenbee on Sept. 4, 1965, at South Shore. They lived in Sioux Falls where he worked as a salesman for The Office Store, Gates Rubber Company and Pam Oil Inc. In 1972, he founded Wes Kjosa Supply and sold car care products. They moved to Aberdeen in 1980, where he was employed by Hub City Inc.
He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, where he served on the Diaconate committee; the Kiwanis Club; the Brown County chapter of the American Red Cross; and the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24.
He enjoyed golfing and watching sports.
Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; one son, Bryan (Marcie) Kjosa of Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Sandra (Kevin) Reinesch of Sioux Falls, one brother, James (Jan) Kjosa of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Dixie (Gene) Buffington of Sioux Falls; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers will be Leslie Hemmingson, Jeff Kjosa, Brad Buffington, Larry Niewald, Brett Wharton and Matt Fries.
Roy Karst
Selby - Mass of Christian burial for Roy Karst, 61, of Selby will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Selby. The Rev. Jim Friedrich will officiate.
Burial will be in Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.
A wake service will be at 7 tonight followed by the holy rosary, both at the church.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the church.
He died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Roy Karst was born March 10, 1940, to Nicholas and Christine (Reuer) Karst at Bowdle. He lived with his family near Hoven and moved with them to Sisseton in 1941. They moved to a farm west of Lowry in 1944. He attended grade school in Lowry and graduated from Selby High School in 1959. He then played Triple A baseball for the Sarasota Sun Sox of the Kansas City Athletics organization for the next two years. He returned to the farm when his father died in 1961.
He married
Florence Kosters on June 8, 1963, at Selby. They lived on the farm until they moved into Selby in 1981. They owned and operated the Hilltop Motel, and he did carpentry work. They left the hotel business in October 1996, and he continued with carpentry until June 2001 when he was diagnosed with cancer.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Selby, was past member of the Selby Lions Club and was a Lowry volunteer fireman. He coached baseball for many years and was named to the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed completing and framing jigsaw puzzles and collected Pepsi memorabilia. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Selby; three sons, Rob (Kari) Karst of Dell Rapids, Todd (Michelle) Karst of Plankinton and Justin Karst of Selby; one daughter, Annette (Darin) Hunter of Miller; one brother, Edwin Karst of Selby; one sister, Doris Ann Spear of Aurora, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Rick Karst and Donnie Karst, both of Hoven; Nick Karst of Aurora, Colo.; Jack Karst and Mick Karst, both of Aberdeen; Pat Karst of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Dennis Zabel of Selby; and Lance Thorson of Watertown.
Harold T. Gutenkauf
Onaka - Mass of Christian burial for Harold Thomas Gutenkauf, 88, of Onaka will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Seneca. The Rev. Randy Phillips will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery in Seneca. Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 6 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
He died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at the Oahe Manor Nursing Home in Gettysburg.
Harold Thomas Gutenkauf was born July 9, 1913, to Charles and Magdalena (Schmitz) Gutenkauf. He graduated from Seneca High School and took an additional year of classes in business subjects. He participated in Basketball, baseball, school plays and the Seneca band.
He married
Lena Waldman on Oct. 18, 1937, in Onaka. In 1943, they moved to a farm north of Seneca, where they farmed and raised their family. He lived there until he became a resident at the Oahe Manor Nursing Home.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, sketching and bowling.
Survivors include his wife of Onaka; one daughter, Sister Darlene of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Degraff, Minn.; two sons; Arnold (Donna Jean) Gutenkauf of Pierre and Dale (Jean) Gutenkauf of Onaka; one sister, Mary Schoeberl of Brandon, Iowa; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
Rose Anna Ericsson
Lemmon - The funeral for Rose Anna Ericcson, 81, of Lemmon will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Prairie Hills Church of God in Lemmon. The Rev. Arlen Swanson will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenhill cemetery in Lemmon. Evanson Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service.
She died on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, N.D.
Rose Anna Rotter was born on Oct. 5, 1919, to Joseph and Hannah (Vodnik) Rotter in Thunder Hawk. She attended school in Thunder Hawk and in rural Morristown. She worked as a housekeeper for area families. In the early 1940s, she moved to Seattle, Wash. to work for Boeing as a riveter during World War II.
She married
Eugene Ericsson on May 30, 1942, in Spokane, Wash. They farmed near Tekoa, Wash. until returning to Thunder Hawk in 1945. In 1947, they moved back to Thunder Hawk, where they lived until their retirement. She served as a postal clerk in Thunder Hawk until the post office closed. After retiring, they moved into Lemmon where she baked for a local restaurant. She became a resident of Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon on June 1, 1997.
She was a member of the Prairie Hills Church of God in Lemmon and the Friendship Circle of its Ladies Auxiliary. She also taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed baking and entertaining family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of Lemmon; one son, David (Betty) Ericsson of Danville, Ind.; two daughters, Vickie (Tucker) Kane of Thunder Hawk and VeRene (Bob) Potter of Lemmon; one brother, Joe Rotter of Craig, Colo.; one sister, Mary Goodmanson of Lemmon; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Emilia Diede
Leola - The funeral for Emilia Diede, 97, of Leola will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leola. The Rev. Raymond Pomplun will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Mound cemetery in Leola. Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Ipswich and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church in Leola.
She died on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.
Emilia Kallenberger was born May 9, 1904, to Baldser and Johana (Kuzmaul) Kallenberger in McPherson County. She attended country school near Hosmer.
She married
Hugo Diede on Jan. 11, 1927. They farmed southeast of Leola. After their retirement, they moved into Leola. He died in 1965. In 1986, she entered the Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leola.
Survivors include four daughters, Viola (Raymond) Liedle of Aberdeen, Bernetta (LeRoy) Browen of Cambridge, Minn., Betty (Lee) Farm of Camp Sherman, Ore., and Norma (Charles) Hoffman of Leola; four sons, Roy (Pat) Diede of Salem, Ore., Harvey (Nancy) Diede of Mina, Melvin Diede of Sublimity, Ore., and Roger Diede of Independence, Ore.; 33 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eight brothers and sisters and one grandchild.
