Joseph 'Joe' E. Hofer

Doland - The funeral for Joseph “Joe” E. Hofer, 95, formerly of Doland will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Doland. The Rev. Donald Barbalace and the Rev. Roger Loomis will officiate.

Burial will be in the Doland cemetery with Thelen Funeral Home of Redfield in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 4

to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Joseph E. Hofer was born Oct. 20, 1905, to David J. and Elizabeth (Tschetter) Hofer in rural Hutchinson County. He grew up and received his education at Yale.

He married Katie Tschetter on Sept. 17, 1925, in Yale. He was employed at Hayes Lucas Lumber Company in Doland for many years. He was also a carpenter in the Doland area. She died in 1985. He had been a resident at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen since June.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Doland.

He enjoyed music.

Survivors include one son, Jerry (Sally) Hofer of Aberdeen; five daughters, Ruby (Gene) Luce of Groton, Violet Carrico of Lead, Evelyn Doyle and Josephine (Edwin) Hofer, both of Brookings, and Gladness Hofer of Huron; one sister, Grace Knodel of Menno; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five sisters, three brothers, three grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Casketbearers will be Philip Carrico, Jim Hofer, Ron Gemar, Bill Podoll, Darwin Hofer and Troy Hofer.

Eelila (Jundt) Landy

Wood-Ridge, N.J. - Eelila (Jundt) Landy, 70, of Wood-Ridge and formerly of Leola, died July 15, 2001, in Wood-Ridge.

Her funeral was July 18 at Kohler Funeral Home in Wood-Ridge.

Eelila Jundt was born Feb. 11, 1931, to Fred and Rosie Jundt in Leola.

Survivors include her husband, Frederick Landy of Wood-Ridge; one son, Matthew (Ellie) Landy of Montclair, N.J.; one daughter, Katie (Edward) Carvin of Yardville, N.J.; one sister, Agnes Swanson of Forest Lake, Minn.; one brother, Larry Jundt of Avondale, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack, N.J. 07601.

Erwin Nagel

Gettysburg - The funeral for Erwin Fred Nagel, 75, of Gettysburg will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. The Rev. Kevin Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in the Gettysburg cemetery with Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at his residence.

Erwin Nagel was born Jan. 9, 1926, to Fred and Karoline (Kunstle) Nagel north of Gettysburg. He grew up in Lucas Township and attended Lucas School No. 9. He began farming in Lucas Township, where he had farmed all of his life.

He married Hazel Hepper on Jan. 9, 1949, in Lebanon. In October 1976, he moved into Gettysburg, where he had since resided.

He was a trustee of Christ Lutheran Church in Lebanon and was a member of the Lebanon Elevator Board and Lucas Township School Board.

His main hobby was farming. He also enjoyed playing cards and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of Gettysburg; one son, Gary (Sandy) Nagel of Gettysburg; one daughter, Peggy (Lynn) Van Bockel of Clark; one brother, Karl Nagel of Gettysburg; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Casketbearers will be Karlton Nagel, Roger Martz, Bill Hall, Kirk Hall, Ronnie Larson and Bob Iverson.

Norman Pfeiffer

Eureka - The funeral for Norman Pfeiffer, 73, of Eureka will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Dean Nelson will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery at Eureka with Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7

p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

He died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D.

Norman Pfeiffer was born Aug. 22, 1928, to John G. and Martha (Singer) Pfeiffer on the family homestead four miles west of Eureka. He grew up and attended country school in the area. He worked on the family farm.

He married Viola Heiser on Sept. 24, 1950, near Eureka. They made their home on the Pfeiffer homestead. They raised small grains, dairy cattle for 43 years and stock cattle. He was still actively farming at the time of his death.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka.

He enjoyed gardening, raising stock cattle and old-time music. His favorite time of the year was haying season.

Survivors include his wife of Eureka; three daughters, Linda (James) Ottenbacher and Julie (Curtis) Hoff, both of Eureka, and Nancy (Steven) Richmond of Plymouth, Minn.; three brothers, Walter Pfeiffer of Eureka, Milbert Pfeiffer of Las Vegas and LaVern Pfeiffer of Pierre; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy.

Casketbearers will be Gary Schimmel of Bristol, Elmer Greger of Bowdle, Gerald Geffre of Leola, Mike Pfeiffer of Omaha, Neb., Floyd Heiser of Aberdeen and John Pfeiffer of Salt Lake City.

Camilla 'Camie' J. Sjomeling

Shoreline, Wash. - Camilla 'Camie' J. Sjomeling, 35, of Shoreline and formerly of Sioux Falls, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, in Chelan Falls, Wash.

Her Mass of Christian burial was Aug. 24 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. The Rev. Charles Cimpl officiated.

Burial was in Woodland cemetery at Sioux Falls with George Boom Funeral Home of Sioux Falls in charge of arrangements.

Camilla J. Sjomeling was born May 29, 1966, to Jerry and Jeannette (Keller) Sjomeling in Sioux Falls. She grew up in Sioux Falls. She was currently a marketing broker for Bering Select Seafood Company.

Survivors include her parents of Sioux Falls; one brother, Darren Sjomeling of Sioux Falls; her grandmother, Kathleen Keller of Selby; and special friend, Mark Johnson of Shoreline.

Mildred Finley

Minneapolis - Mildred Finley, 88, of Minneapolis and formerly of Aberdeen, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at her home.

Arrangements are pending with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen.

Clare M. Gaden

Hoven - Clare M. Gaden, 94, of Hoven died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Holy Infant Hospital in Hoven.

Her Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven. The Rev. Joseph D. Short will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Church cemetery at Hoven with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.

A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the church.

Travis 'TC' Calvin Holloway

Eagle Butte - Travis “TC” Calvin Holloway, 24, of Eagle Butte died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, in a pickup rollover near Faith.

Arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Lucas Earl Johnson

Aberdeen - Lucas Earl Johnson, 5-month-old son of Wayne and Nancy Lou Johnson of 12699 383rd Ave., died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Margaret Jacob

Strasburg, N.D. - The funeral for Margaret Jacob, 92, of Strasburg will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton, N.D. The Rev. Shannon Lucht will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul's Catholic cemetery in Strasburg with Myers Funeral Home in Linton in charge of arrangements.

She died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in Strasburg.

Margaret Jacob was born Nov. 28, 1908, to Valentine and Magdalena (Burgad) Jacob in Strasburg. She lived with her parents near the Strasburg and Linton areas until moving with her father to Linton in 1941. She took care of her father and worked in restaurants for many years until she retired. She entered the Strasburg Care Center in May 1998.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and seven sisters.

Casketbearers will be Frank Jacob, Valentine Jacob, Romanus Jacob, John Werner, Jerome Houn and Valentine Kuntz.

Bernice Stotts

Pierre - Bernice Stotts, 86, of Pierre and formerly of Ortley, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Maryhouse Sub-acute Center in Pierre.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southeast Methodist Church in Pierre.

Burial will be in the Murdo cemetery with Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

Bernice Thompson was born July 6, 1915, to Bert and Eli Thompson in Ortonville, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Ortley. She worked at Skodvolds Store as a clerk.

She married Cleo Stotts on July 23, 1938, in Watertown. He died in 1974 and she moved to Pierre. She worked at the Locke Hotel for about three years.

She was a member of Southeast Methodist Church. She was a former member of Free Lutheran Church in Ortley and the Kennebec Methodist Church.

She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dancing, game shows, crossword puzzles, soap operas, reading the Bible and picnics.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna (Roger) Reese of Watertown, and Judy Stotts and Karen Erickson, both of Pierre; two sons, Eugene (Patsy) Stotts and Alan Stotts, both of Pierre; one brother, Roy Thompson of Eau Claire, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one great-granddaughter, five sisters and three brothers.
