Bruce A. Vik
Faulkton - The funeral for Bruce Alvin Vik, 76, of Faulkton will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Church of Faulkton. The Rev. Bruce Adams will officiate.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. today in Riverside cemetery in Aberdeen with Masonic rites. Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton is in charge of arrangements.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Faulk County Memorial Hospital in Faulkton.
Bruce Alvin Vik was born Jan. 18, 1925, to Alvin R. and Ruby Jennie (Clark) Vik in Aberdeen. He received his schooling in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from June 1943 until April 1946.
He married
Rolande “Randy” G. Stange on April 21, 1951, in Aberdeen. He attended the Cincinnati College of Embalming in Ohio and received his funeral director-embalmer license. He worked for Kreuger Mortuary in Aberdeen. He was recalled to the Navy and served from May 1951 to August 1952. He returned to Aberdeen to his former employment. From 1953 to 1955 he worked for Langslet Funeral Home in Gettysburg. From 1955 to 1957 he worked for Campbell Funeral Home in Rapid City. He then returned to Aberdeen where he worked at the Kreuger-Johnson Funeral Home, Huebl Funeral Home and was a partner in the Gates-Vik Funeral Home for more than 12 years. In 1986, he moved to Faulkton and was employed with Luce Funeral Home until the time of his death.
He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen where he served as an elder and deacon, and was presently a member of the United Church of Faulkton. He was a past Worshipful Master Aberdeen Lodge No. 38 AF & AM, Aberdeen Chapter No. 14 RAM, was Past Commander of Damascus Commander No. 10 KT, Scottish Rite Bodies of Aberdeen, was current secretary-treasurer of the Royal Order of Jesters, Yelduz Temple of the Shrine, Red Cross of Constantine, was a member of the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay and served as its executive officer in South Dakota for more than seven years. He was Past Commander of Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24 of Aberdeen, Voiture No. 146 of the 40 et 8, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3179 of Faulkton. He was active for more than 30 years in Boy Scouts of America which awarded him the Silver Beaver Award through the Pheasant Council. He was a member of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association, was past president of the Ringneck Shrine Club of Redfield, and the Gettysburg Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife of Faulkton; three sons, Steven B. (Ning) Vik of Dallas, Texas, Dennis P. (Linda) Vik of Albuquerque, N.M., and Terry A. (Wynter) Vik of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Allan C. Vik of Gainesville, Texas; one twin sister, Beverly Natalie of Milbank; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Kenneth L. Wagner
Eagle Butte - The funeral for Kenneth Le Roy Wagner, 71, of Eagle Butte was Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. The Rev. Jeffry Barnes officiated.
Burial was in the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis with Luce Funeral Home in Eagle Butte in charge of arrangements.
He died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at his home.
Kenneth Le Roy Wagner was born Oct. 13, 1929, to Magdelena (Betch) and Henry Wagner in McLaughlin.
Survivors include one son, Myron Wagner of Oglala; three daughters, Candace Wagner of Oglala, Leslie Skidmore of Florida, and Roxanne Wagner of Lemmon; one brother, Elden Schlabs of Omaha, Neb.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harold 'Shorty' Davis
Onida - Harold “Shorty” Davis, 80, of Onida and Devil's Tower, Wyo., died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at his home at Devil's Tower.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Onida. The Rev. Mary-Lee Lint will officiate.
Burial will be in the Onida cemetery. Feigum Funeral Home of Pierre is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home in Pierre.
Harold Davis was born April 30, 1921, to Roy and Inez (Love) Davis at Ree Heights. He grew up on a farm and served in World War II.
He married
Marcelleen Hofer on Sept. 20, 1952. He retired in 1983 after many years of serving as a mechanic in the Onida community. In 1993 they purchased the Devil's Tower Trading Post and resided in Wyoming eight months of the year.
He was known as adventurous and enjoyed parachuting and bungee jumping after he retired. He also enjoyed the outdoors with friends and family by fishing, boating, hunting and working on his acreage.
Survivors include his wife of Onida; two sons, Tim Davis of Deadwood and Daniel E. Davis; three daughters, Marcia (Mark) Kozel of Sioux Falls, Margie (Marty) Hofer of Onida and Peggy (Tom) Schaack of Vermillion; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, six sisters and one grandson.
John J. Schneider
Selby - The funeral for John J. Schneider, 87, of Selby will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Java. The Rev. Del Neumeister will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church in Java.
He died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
John J. Schneider was born June 5, 1914, to Henry and Katie (Hauck) Schneider on a farm north of Java in Campbell County. He attended the Kundert Rural School and was raised in the area.
He married
Bertha Aman on Nov. 25, 1942, at Herreid. They farmed north of Java in Walworth County until moving to Selby in 1976. She died Nov. 28, 1986. He continued to live in Selby and had resided at the Selby Good Samaritan Center since Aug. 2.
He was a longtime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java.
He enjoyed fishing with Melvin Rauscher and checking cattle with Jerry Olson. He also liked his time with the local coffee group and spending time in his garden.
Survivors include one daughter, Virlene (Arlie) Skillingstad of Selby; two brothers, Rinel Schneider of Mobridge and Ted Schneider of Java; two sisters, Edna Himrich and Irene Fiedler, both of Selby; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son in infancy, one brother and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Jerry Olson, Claude Olson, Melvin Rauscher and Bob Seyer, all of Selby; Casper Kraft of McLaughlin; Dan Schneider of Java; Scott Schneider of Big Stone City; and Terry Schneider of Sioux Falls.
John Warcken
Oakes, N.D. - The funeral for John Warcken, 87, of Oakes will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Oakes. The Rev. Johnson Kottaram will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Oakes is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
He died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at the Oakes Community Hospital in Oakes.
John Warcken was born May 13, 1914, to Nicholas and Anna (Wirth) Warcken near LaMoure, N.D. He grew up and attended school at Independence, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army.
He married
Frances A. Kitzinger on June 11, 1940, in Oakes. They farmed in the LaMoure, Oakes and Forman, N.D., areas before he started working for the Dickey County road maintenance crew. She died June 26, 1983, and he continued to live in Oakes. In February he became a resident at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center.
He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores of Idaho; one brother, August Warcken of Carmel, Calif.; two sisters, Louise Fitzsimmons of Carmel and Irma Gaughan of San Lorenzo, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother.
Clow Gauer
Ipswich - Mass of Christian burial for Clow Gauer, 85, of Ipswich will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. The Rev. Thomas Clement will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church.
She died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home in Ipswich.
Clow Engelhardt was born Sept. 24, 1915, to Henry and Magdalena (Adler) Engelhardt in McHenry County near Carson, N.D. When she was 2 years old, she moved with her family to a farm near Ipswich. She attended Holy Cross School.
She married
Sylvester Gauer on Jan. 26, 1935. They lived near Ipswich for one year and then moved to Nampa, Idaho. In 1943 they returned to Ipswich and lived on a farm south of Craven Corner. They retired in 1966. He died in 1976. She continued to live on the farm until 1977, when she moved into Ipswich. She had been a resident of the Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home since December 1999.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Altar Society and the National Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include one son, David (Angela) Gauer of Hanover Park, Ill.; two brothers, Leo Engelhardt of Alamogordo, N.M., and Lawrence Engelhardt of Ipswich; one sister, Mae Livingston of Backus, Minn.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers will be LeRoy Gauer, Lenny Gauer, Joe A. Gauer, Carroll Brick, Jake Hammrich, Ray Geditz and Gary Hahler.
Agnes Lyngbye
Sioux Falls - The funeral for Agnes Lyngbye, 87, of Sioux Falls and formerly of the Bradley area, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bradley. The Rev. Dan Hooks will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Furness Funeral Home of Clark is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home in Clark and prior to the service Wednesday at the church in Bradley.
She died following a long illness on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls.
Agnes Stacey was born May 2, 1914, to Thomas and Ellen Jane (Clyde) Stacey at Garden City. She grew up and attended school at Garden City.
She married
Melvin J.
Lyngbye on June 17, 1935, at Clark. They farmed for a few years with his brothers. They made their home in the Clark area, mostly near the Bradley and Garden City communities. They also resided in Webster for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls 10 years ago. He died July 9, 1997.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Bradley.
She enjoyed a variety of hobbies including crochet, needlework, making doll clothes and working with plastic canvas. She also liked gardening and working with flowers.
Survivors include one daughter, Mila (Howard) Johnson of Sioux Falls; five sisters, Margaret Peterson of Webster, Doris Peterson of Crocker, Dorothy Vick of Doland, and Mary Bergan and Ida Lundholm, both of Madison; three brothers, Ervin Stacey of Lily, Francis “Red” Stacey of Bradley and Russell “Bud” Stacey of Madison; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one grandson, two sisters and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Todd Johnson, Troy Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Dustin Hawk and Raymond Hiles.
Ruth E. Jones
Aberdeen - Memorial services for Ruth E. Jones, 88, of Aberdeen will be at noon Saturday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. The Rev. Eldon Reich and the Rev. D.C. Forbes will officiate.
Visitation will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
She died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Patricia Fuller
Ashton - The funeral for Patricia Fuller, 71, of Ashton will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Burial will be in the Ashton cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and prior to the service Tuesday, all at the funeral home.
She died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Patricia Fredette was born Nov. 8, 1929, to Charles and Iva (Sherwin) Fredette in Adamsville, N.Y. She attended school in New York and Vermont.
She married
Coolidge Fuller in 1964 in Queensbury, N.Y. In 1970 she moved to Alaska and in 1991, she moved to Ashton.
Survivors include her husband of Ashton; one son, Wade (Sandra) Morrill of Deltona, Fla.; three brothers, Dayton Fredette of Whitehall, N.Y., Maurice Fredette of Fortann, N.Y., and Clifton Fredette of West Grandville, N.Y.; one sister, Zillah Redding of Easley, S.C.; one grandson; and one great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
