Gordon Gill
Bristol - The funeral for Gordon Gill, 76, of Bristol will be at 2 p.m. today at the Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster. The Rev. Terrill Sorensen and the Rev. Sara Sorensen will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bristol cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral chapel from 9 a.m. today until the time of the service.
He died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
Gordon Wayne Gill was born Aug. 3, 1925, to Leo and Gertrude (Wagner) Gill on the family farm north of Bristol in Day County. He attended District No. 142 country school near his home. As a young man he farmed with his father on the family farm. In February 1957, he bought a recreation hall in Bristol which he owned and operated until July 1997, when ill health caused him to enter the Johnson Center in Bristol. He resided there until complications with diabetes and a broken hip placed him in Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. He resided there until the present time.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and also enjoyed reading.
Survivors include four sisters, Lois Zumm of Fox Lake, Wis., Cleo Esche and Sharon Gill, both of Watertown, and Ramona Estwick of Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Randy Horter, Robert Biersbach, Mark Anderson, Don Wahl, Calvin Esche and Dan Kirchmeier.
Sister Hilary Pillatzke
Aberdeen - Sister Hilary Pillatzke, 93, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.
Her funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Heights. The Rev. Joseph Sheehan will officiate.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery with Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., in charge of arrangements.
A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
Cecilia Antonia Pillatzke was born Dec. 25, 1907, to Pauline (Kruesel) and Otto Pillatzke in Rosen, Minn. She entered Presentation Convent on Aug. 13, 1933. She made her final profession to the Order on Aug. 10, 1939. She served in housekeeping and food service at Avera St. Luke's and Holy Rosary Hospitals. She served in a variety of ministries at Presentation Convent, Presentation Heights, in food service, housekeeping, gardening and altar bread department.
She enjoyed caring for lawns and raising flowers. She used her artistic abilities to decorate for special events.
Survivors include her sister, Julia Dockter of Anamoose, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be the maintenance staff at Presentation Heights.
Clara H. Olson
Veblen - The funeral for Clara H. Olson, 89, of Veblen will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen. The Rev. Kirsten Frantsvog will officiate.
Burial will be in the Nidaros cemetery near Veblen with Frank Family Funeral Home of Lidgerwood, N.D., in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Lidgerwood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Lidgerwood. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church in Veblen.
She died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton.
Clara Hoines was born Sept. 2, 1912, to Olaus and Annemarie (Staael) Hoines in Veblen. She grew up in Veblen and graduated from Veblen High School. She attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught in rural schools in Marshall and Roberts counties for several years and at Claire City School for many years.
She married
Peter Olson on April 16, 1938, at New Effington. They farmed near Veblen until 1983, when they retired. They continued to live on the farm. He died Sept. 17, 1998, and she moved into Veblen.
She was a member of Nidaros Church and later Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Veblen Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include one son, Murdean (Valois) Olson of Sisseton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Clarence Olson, Curtis Olson, Wayne Hoines, Robert Hoines, Marlin Jenner and Ronald Haaland.
Mimmie Christensen
Webster - The funeral for Mimmie Christensen, 101, of Webster will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at American Lutheran Church in Webster. The Rev. Jan FitzGibbon will officiate.
Burial will be in the Webster cemetery with Fiksdal Funeral Service of Webster in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, all at the funeral home. There will also be visitation prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
She died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Bethesda Home in Webster.
Mimmie Lillian Carlson was born April 22, 1900, to Gust and Caroline (Anderson) Carlson on the family homestead in Webster Township, Day County. She attended country school near her home. She stayed at home to help her parents on the farm.
She married
Anker Christensen on July 3, 1937, at Webster. They made their home in Holmquist, where they operated a store. In 1939 they moved to the Carlson farm to help her parents with the farming operation. They took over the farm and farmed until 1968. He died in September 1969 and she continued to live on the farm. She raised chickens and sold eggs to local residents. In 1997 she moved to Webster and lived at Heritage Village. She entered the Bethesda Home in April 2000.
She was a member of American Lutheran Church in Webster, where she was active in Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and circle.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two cousins, Susan Nelson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mark Bordsen of Colfax, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Jerome Hanson, Andy Hanson, John Amundson, Kenneth Amundson, Sherman McCarlson and Albin Lindquist.
Jeannine 'Jean' Louise Stacey
Clark - The funeral for Jeannine “Jean” Louise Stacey, 71, of Clark will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark. The Rev. Roger Semmler will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Clark with Furness Funeral Home of Clark in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and in the afternoon Monday at the church.
She died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at her daughter's home in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Jeannine Grewe was born Jan. 3, 1930, to William and Alta (Ostrout) Grewe in Watertown. She attended school through the 10th grade.
She married
John Thomas Stacey on Oct. 12, 1946, in Webster. They farmed together for many years before they moved to Ortonville, Minn., and opened a restaurant. In 1966 they returned to the area where he worked and managed several large farming operations. He died Sept. 4, 1998. In July 2001 she moved to Bullhead City due to failing health.
She enjoyed gardening and quilting.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas Stacey of Bradley, Allen (Kari) Stacey of Webster and Kendall Stacey of Garden City; two daughters, Connie (Martin) Coughlin of Bullhead City and Joanne (Bruce) Cape of Golden Valley, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Elwood Peterson, Ralph Peterson, Darrell Stacey, LaVern Peterson, Wayne Bergan and Roger Vick.
Venus Simundson
Madelia, Minn. - Venus Simundson, 96, of Madelia and formerly of Groton, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church near Hanska, Minn.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Firle Funeral Home of Hanska in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Venus Flora Synsteby was born Feb. 22, 1905, to Ole and Gurina (Torgrimson) Synsteby in Lake Hanska Township, Minn. She attended school in Hanska and graduated from New Ulm High School in New Ulm, Minn., in 1923. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., for one year and taught in rural schools for four years.
She married
O.M. Simundson on June 19, 1927, in Lake Hanska. They served parishes in Laurel, Mont., Plentywood, Mont., Chinook, Mont., Roslyn, Aberdeen and Plummer, Minn. They lived in Fargo, N.D., for three years. In their retirement they lived in Sioux Falls and Groton. He died June 27, 1981, and she moved back to Lake Hanska and lived with her brother on the farm home for 13 years. She entered the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia on Jan. 21, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Jon (Alice) Simundson of Spooner, Wis., and Dan Simundson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister, one half brother and one half sister.
Casketbearers will be Jerome Bakke, Algot Blomquist, Dick Blomquist, Sidney Jeramo, Ernie Ohland, Chuck Olson and Gary Olson.
Agnes Bjonerud
Sioux Falls - The memorial service for Agnes Bjonerud, 104, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Aberdeen, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave., Aberdeen. The Rev. Ronald Jensen will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park in Aberdeen. The Rev. Harold Verhulst will officiate. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
She died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Agnes May Dyste was born Feb. 18, 1897, to Nels and Hannah (Narum) Dyste in Forman, N.D. She grew up, received her education and graduated from high school in Forman. She then attended Minnehaha Business Academy in Minneapolis.
She married
Chester E. Bjonerud on Nov. 30, 1922, in Forman. They moved to Calmar, Iowa, where they farmed until 1925. At that time they moved to a farm near Forman. They lived in Brookings for two years before returning to Forman. In 1936 they moved to Aberdeen. He died in 1976. In September 1993 she moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls and resided there until the time of her death.
She was employed with the Register of Deeds in Sargent County, N.D. She also did clerical work at the Brown County Treasurer's office and the Aberdeen City Assessor's office.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she served as treasurer. She was also active in the Bethesda Circle and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Survivors include two sons, Corwin E. (Nancy) Bjonerud of San Bruno, Calif., and Gordon D. (Setsue) Bjonerud of Roseville, Calif.; one daughter, Jean (Harold) Verhulst of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, one grandson, four sisters and four brothers.
