Dale J. Stein

Aberdeen - Mass of Christian burial for Dale J. Stein, 58, of 13751 384th Ave., will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Ave. S.E. The Rev. Lance Oser will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in charge of arrangements.

A liturgical wake service and rosary will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, all at the mortuary.

He died of natural causes Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at his home.

Dale John Stein was born March 1, 1944, to R.J. and Josephine (Campbell) Stein in Little Falls, Minn. He was raised in Pierz, Minn., where he attended Pierz parochial schools and graduated from Pierz Memorial High School. He was a professional bowler and bowled on the professional tour for two years. During the summers, he worked on a road construction crew in Minnesota.

He married Ann Pederson on Sept. 1, 1964, in Sisseton. He continued his education by attending and graduating from Itaska Junior College, Bemidji (Minn.) State College, and received his masters degree from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., graduating magna cum lauda in 1971. He did his internship for hospital administration at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was hired on as an associate administrator for one year. They moved to St. Cloud, Minn., where he was the assistant hospital administrator for five years. They later moved to Bismarck, N.D., where he was the assistant hospital administrator for three years. In November of 1979, they moved to Aberdeen. He has been the hospital administrator and CEO at Avera St. Luke's Hospital since that time.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the South Dakota Hospital Association.

Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; two daughters, Barbara (Scott) Stein-Lundbergh of Fargo, N.D., and Melissa Stein-Murray of Aberdeen; two sons, Benedict (Sarah) Stein of St. Paul, Minn., and Craig Stein of Osh Kosh, Wis.; his stepmother, Mary Ann Stein of St. Cloud; three sisters, Lois Kummet of Arizona, Mary Lauer of Minnesota, and Ruth Gaytan of California; six brothers, Ken Stein, Roy Stein, Mark Stein and Paul Stein, all of Minnesota, Raymond Stein of Calif- ornia, and Don Stein of Arizona; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Casketbearers will be Rory King, Ray Schultz, Gregg Magera, Ron Jackobson, Wayne Muth, K.C. DeBoer, John Fritz and Byron Pederson.

Dale J. Stein

Aberdeen - Dale J. Stein, 58, of 13751 384th Ave., died of natural causes Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are pending with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W.

Scott R. Pekron

Deming, N.M. - Scott R. Pekron, 38, of Deming and formerly of Aberdeen, died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming.

His memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Deming. The Rev. David Okerberg and the Rev. John Williams will officiate.

Baca's Funeral Chapel of Deming is in charge of arrangements.

Scott R. Pekron was born May 17, 1964, to Terrence and Barbara (Cowie) Pekron in Aberdeen. He had been a resident of Deming since August 1966. He had worked as a fumigator with Snowden Pest Control in Deming since 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Deming; one daughter, Hali Pekron of Deming; one son, Tristan Pekron of Deming; his parents of Deming; one brother, Sean Pekron of Woodland Park, Colo.; and his maternal grandmother, Helen Cowie of Aberdeen.

Eleanor Myrann

Casa Grande, Ariz. - The funeral for Eleanor Myrann, 82, of Casa Grande and formerly of the area, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Tolstoy Wesleyan Church. The Rev. Al Schmierer and the Rev. Lindell Howard will officiate.

Burial will be in Springs cemetery near Tolstoy with Miller Funeral Home in Bowdle in charge of arrangements.

She died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the RTA Hospice Unit in Casa Grande.

Eleanor Marie Myrann was born Aug. 9, 1920, to Hetty (Nelson) and Eiven Myrann in Wilmot. At the age of 2, she moved with her family to Tolstoy. This is where she was raised and attended school. She attended high school in Onaka. She then started her teaching career and earned her degree from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught in a rural school southwest of Roscoe, in Houghton, Tolstoy and Mobridge. In 1963, she moved to Casa Grande. She taught at Evergreen and Cottonwood elementary schools in Casa Grande for more than 20 years. Following her retirement, she served as principle of the Casa Grande Christian Church School until 1991.

She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Casa Grande where she served as Sunday school superintendent and was a board member.

Survivors include three sisters, Lois Howard of Mitchell, Carolyn Carson of Phoenix, and Bonnie Strouckel of Casa Grande; and one brother, Jack Myrann of Phoenix.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Casketbearers will be Lloyd Hettich and Kelly Hettich, both of Onaka, Lloyd Strouckel of Casa Grande, Allen Strouckel and Ronald Strouckel, both of Roscoe, and Lyle Nelson of Java.

Memorials are preferred to RTA Hospice Foundation, 1675 E. Monument Plaza, Casa Grande, AZ 85222.

Howard 'Ike' Morley

Cresbard - The memorial service for Howard "Ike" Morley, 62, of Cresbard will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Chris Postma and Richard Harbur will officiate.

Inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cresbard cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

He died of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Rudolph 'Rudy' Henry Ulmer

Oakes, N.D. - Rudolph "Rudy" Henry Ulmer, 97, of Oakes died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Oakes Good Samaritan Center.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fullerton Union Church in Fullerton, N.D. The Rev. Steve McGinnis will officiate.

Burial will be in Maple- view cemetery in Fullerton with Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Rudolph Henry Ulmer was born May 18, 1905, to Jacob G. and Rosine (Serr) Ulmer on a farm near Sutton, Neb. In 1916, he moved with his family to the Fullerton area where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling, he farmed with his parents until 1944, when he purchased his own farm in the Fullerton area. He continued to farm until his retirement in 1997, retiring as one of the oldest active farmers in North Dakota. He spent winters in Oakes until entering the Oakes Good Samaritan Center in June 1999.

Survivors include one sister, Eleanor Van Slyke of Renton, Wash.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Harold Gemar, Robert Gemar, Charles Ulmer, Clarence Ulmer, Larry Ulmer and Wayne Ulmer.

Carl Bernard Swanson

Langford - The funeral for Carl Bernard Swanson, 83, of Langford will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highlanda Lutheran Church near Langford. The Rev. Jeff Redlin will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by Henry Osness American Legion Post No. 141 of Langford. Price Funeral Chapel in Britton is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel in Britton. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church near Langford.

He died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Carl Bernard Swanson was born May 23, 1919, to August and Ingrid (Johnson) Swanson on the family farm near Langford in Hickman Township, Marshall County. As a youngster he grew up there. He attended school at Hickman No. 1 and graduated from Langford High School in 1936. Following his graduation, he farmed with his parents prior to entering military service in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for four years. He worked in the post office and later in the infantry in the European Theatre, prior to his honorable discharge in 1946.

He married Adelaide Annie Malpert on April 16, 1949, in Britton. They lived and farmed the family farm in Hickman Township. He farmed with his brother, and lifelong farming partner, Rudolph Swanson.

He was active in his community, having served on the Hickman Township Board and the elevator board for many years. He was a longtime member of the American Legion. He was a lifelong and active member of the Highlanda Lutheran Church and served on various church boards, including more than 45 years of service to the Highlanda cemetery Cor- poration.

He enjoyed staying in touch with World War II Army friends.

Survivors include his wife of Langford; two daughters, Nancy (Gary) Schwartz of Brookings, and Carla (Michael) Durkee of Iowa City, Iowa; one brother, Rudolph Swanson of Langford; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Casketbearers will be Keith Ogren, Ivan Sjovall, Dorn Malpert, Henry Steinberger, Donald Ogren, Neil Foote, Ian Durkee and Joel Erickson.

Reuben 'Ruby' Beck-Stephenson

Aberdeen - The funeral for Reuben "Ruby" Beck-Stephenson, infant son of Matthew Stephenson and Sara Beck of Aberdeen, will be at 3 p.m. today in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park with Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He died Sunday, Sept. 22. 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Reuben Beck-Stephenson was born June 30, 2002, in Aberdeen.

Survivors include his parents; his paternal grandparents, Lori and Anker Leifsen of Cottonwood Lake, and Mark and Rose Stephenson of Madison; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Debra Beck of Aberdeen; his paternal great-grandmothers, Mildred Stephenson of Madison and Vivian Schultz of Onida; and his maternal great-grandparents, Reuben and Bernice Beck of Roscoe.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal great-grand- fathers.

Casketbearers will be Mike Stroman, Dave Beck, Dan Cybulski and Shawn Beck.

Alice Ness

Claremont - The funeral for Alice Ness, 90, a longtime Claremont resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Claremont. The Rev. Wayne Tieszen will officiate.

Burial will be in the Hillside cemetery in Langford with Price Funeral Chapel in Britton in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

She died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Groton.

Alice Hazel Enger was born May 11, 1912, to Henry and Hattie (Johnson) Enger on the family farm near Langford. As a youngster she grew up near Langford and attended rural Marshall County schools and Langford High School. She enjoyed music and played the violin, the piano and the harmonica. After receiving her education, she worked for area families as a housekeeper. She also worked at Gotfred Anderson's Grocery Store in Langford.

She married Elmer Ness on June 10, 1931, in Webster. They lived on various farms in the Langford, Britton and Amherst areas. In 1953 they moved to Buss Tisher's farm. In 1981, they retired and moved into Claremont. He died Oct. 20, 1993, and she continued to make her home in Claremont until entering Beverly Healthcare in Groton in September 1998.

She was known for her homemade bread and kringla. She enjoyed visiting and collecting family photos.

Survivors include three daughters, Marie (Elwood) Patterson and Joyce Hagenson, both of Claremont, and Dorothy (Keith) Porter of Albert Lea, Minn.; two sons, Jerome (Leona) Ness of Britton and Harold Ness of Claremont; 26 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, one sister and three brothers.

Casketbearers will be Leon Patterson, Terry Hinman, Lance Hagenson, Roger Ness, Greg Hagen and David Hagen.

Gustave 'Gust' G. Adam

Apache Junction, Ariz. - Gustave "Gust" G. Adam, 85, of Apache Junction and formerly of Hosmer and McLaughlin, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at his home.

His memorial service will be at a later date at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis with military rites. Bunker's Desert View Chapel in Mesa is in charge of arrangements.

Gustave G. Adam was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Hosmer.

He married Vera K. Aman. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and was attached to Company A 3rd Medical Battalion as a T5 Sergeant. His overseas tour included North Africa and the Mediterranean Theatre. He was discharged in July 1945. For his service he was awarded the Silver Star Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to McLaughlin with his family. He was self-employed in carpentry work until 1951. At that time he became the manager of Merchants Building Supply. He worked in that capacity for 28 years after which time he retired. From 1986 to 1990, they traveled to Apache Junction for the winters. In 1990, they permanently moved to Apache Junction.

He was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion for 57 years. He also served on many community committees.

Survivors include his wife of Apache Junction; two sons, Robert (Vi) Adam of Aberdeen and Mark (Rhonda) Adam of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Darlene (Ray) Hlavinka of Harrisburg, Ore., and Yvonne (Casmer) Kraft of Hawarden, Iowa; two brothers, Gottfried Adam and Albert Adam, both of Roscoe; two sisters, Tina Stroud of Denver, and Clara Hoffer of Las Cruces, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grand- children.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and one sister.
