Georgia Kay Wilson
Westport - The funeral for Georgia Kay Wilson, 61, of Westport will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln St., Aberdeen. The Rev. Dave Bambas will officiate.
Burial will be in Hillview cemetery in Westport with Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
She died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Georgia Kay Lutgen was born Aug. 10, 1941, to George and Eunice (Sanders) Lutgen in Aberdeen. She grew up and was educated in Aberdeen. She attended Aberdeen Central High School. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen for a number of years. She was then employed at Fairview Southdale in Edina, Minn. She then returned to Aberdeen.
She married
Michael Wilson on Sept. 4, 1971, in Aberdeen. Following their marriage they lived in Aberdeen for a short time. They then moved to Westport and she began employment at 3M in Aberdeen. She continued to work there for approximately 24 years. They resided in Westport until the time of her death.
She enjoyed tending to her flowers, especially her African violets, doing stained glass work and spending time at their cabin at Big Stone Lake.
Survivors include her husband of Westport; three sons, Jerry (Debbie) Albrecht of Prior Lake, Minn., Len Albrecht of Branson, Mo., and Mike (Christina) Wilson of Westport; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Kerry Wilson, Darwin Hinz, Brad Perry, Stuart Nelson, Virgil Netzer and Mitch Wilson.
Magdalena 'Lenny' Schwab
Strasburg, N.D. - Magdalena "Lenny" Schwab, 95, of Strasburg died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Strasburg Care Center.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg. The Rev. Leonard Eckroth will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery in Strasburg with Myers Funeral Home in Linton, N.D., in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Linton. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church in Strasburg.
Magdalena Baumgartner was born May 4, 1907, to Joseph and Katherina (Schneider) Baumgartner on a farm three miles north of Strasburg. She attended rural school.
She married
John Schwab in January 1925 in Strasburg. Following their marriage they lived on the Schwab family farm. They moved into Strasburg in 1948. She cooked for several weddings and for the hot lunch program at St. Benedicts School. He died Aug. 1, 1956. She entered the Strasburg Care Center in July 1998.
She was a member of St. Mary's Society and Strasburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, braiding rugs and playing cards.
Survivors include three sons, Larry (Evelyn) Schwab and James (Edna) Schwab, both of Strasburg, and John Schwab of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; five daughters, Florence Klein of San Juan Capistrano, Irene (Jim) Lipp and Antonia Baumgartner, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Laverne (Jim) Feist of Beloit, Wis., and Clara (Jim) Huber of Mandan, N.D.; two sisters, Tillie Fischer of Tucson, Ariz., and Eva Schmaltz of Strasburg; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, two great-grandsons, two brothers and six sisters.
Casketbearers will be Dennis Schwab, Gerard Schwab, Loren Schwab, Mark Kramer, Duane Schwab and Daryl Baumgartner.
Russel Dean 'Buzz' Schmidt
Redfield - Russel Dean "Buzz" Schmidt, 59, of Redfield died of cancer Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at his home near Redfield.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. The Rev. Lloyd Miller will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenlawn cemetery in Redfield with full military rites. Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Closed-casket visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Russel Dean Schmidt was born Dec. 4, 1942, to Arnold and Bethel (Spry) Schmidt in Aberdeen. He grew up in the Redfield area and graduated from Redfield High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963.
He married
Pam Thomas on Dec. 5, 1965, in Redfield. He started farming with his father east of Redfield in 1966. His son, Dustin, joined the farming operation in 1994.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, talking motorcycles and going to farm shows.
Survivors include his wife of Redfield; two sons, Loyal (Jennifer Bancroft) Schmidt of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dustin (Dawn) Schmidt of Redfield; his parents of Aberdeen; one sister, Lynelle Woolson of Palmetto, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandparents.
Glen 'Tiny' Bringman
Rapid City - Mass of Christian burial for Glen "Tiny" Bringman, 81, of Rapid City and formerly of Eagle Butte, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. The Rev. Anthony Kluckman will officiate.
Burial will be in the United Eagle Butte cemetery with Luce Funeral Home in Eagle Butte in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Meadowbrook Manor in Rapid City after a lengthy illness.
Glen Bringman was born July 8, 1921, to John and Minnie (Whitstein) Bringman in Eagle Butte. He spent his childhood in Eagle Butte and attended Sciford Country School through the eighth grade. He worked for the Diamond A Cattle Company and for other local ranchers before he bought his own farm. In 1943, he purchased the Bringman homestead where he farmed and ranched until 2001.
He married
Barbara (Ehli) Bringman in 1954. They worked the farm and later purchased the Harding Motel. They operated the motel for 42 years and recently sold the business and retired in Rapid City.
He started the Tri County Water Association. He served as chairman of this company for several years and was instrumental in getting drinking water to Eagle Butte, Dupree, Faith and the rural community.
Survivors include his wife of Rapid City; two sons, Frank (Betty Ann) Bringman of Ridgeview and John Bringman of Rapid City; four daughters, Jean (Jerry) Perrett of Rapid City, Peggy (Ray) Mischkot of San Diego, Marian Tyrell of Portage, Wis., and Barbara Jo (Greg) Schuler of Sioux Falls; his twin brother, Len Bringman; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.
Alita Heyne
Hosmer - Alita Heyne, 97, of Hosmer died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home.
Her funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hosmer. The Rev. Robin Wanner-Schaunaman will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethany cemetery in Hosmer with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrange- ments.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Bertha Maria Shortridge
Lemmon - Bertha M. Shortridge, 98, of Lemmon died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lemmon. The Rev. P.J. Southam will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenhill cemetery in Lemmon with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon in charge of arrangements.
A family service and Order of the Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Lemmon. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Bertha Maria Anderson was born Jan. 5, 1904, to Charles M. and Bertha Julia (Engen) Anderson in New Glaris, Wis. She moved with her family in 1908 to Scott Township, five miles east of Hettinger, N.D. She attended classes at Brown Public School. She graduated from Hettinger High School in 1922. When she 18, she began teaching in country schools in the Hettinger-Mott, N.D. area. In the fall of 1925, she attended Northern Normal and Industrial School in Aberdeen. She received her two-year teaching certificate in 1926. She began teaching in Mott area rural schools in 1927.
She married
Lyman C. Shortridge on May 30, 1929, in Aberdeen. They established their home in Thunder Hawk where he owned and operated the Thunder Hawk Garage and Hardware Store. In 1949, they moved to Lemmon. In 1960, she renewed her teaching credentials at Dickinson (N.D.) State Teachers College. For the next 18 years she taught rural schools in North Dakota and South Dakota. She retired at the age of 67. He died Oct. 7, 1976. She remained at her home in Lemmon.
She was a member of Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed designing and creating afghans and flower-garden quilts until her eyesight began failing in 1982. She also had an interest in bridge, politics and the stock market.
Survivors include two sons, Charles (June) Shortridge of Houston, Texas, and Douglas (Mary) Shortridge of Battle Creek, Mich.; one sister, Helen Kalisiak of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Abigail Olson
Gillette, Wyo. - Abigail Olson, 72, of Gillette and formerly of Britton died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette.
Arrangements are pending with Stevenson Funeral Home of Gillette.
Ryan S. Hofer
Pembrook Colony - Ryan S. Hofer, 14, of Pembrook Colony, near Ipswich died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Pembrook Colony due to injuries he received in a tractor accident.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pembrook Colony south of Ipswich.
Burial will be in the Pembrook Colony cemetery. Gramm-Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.
Ryan S. Hofer was born Dec. 27, 1987, to Rev. Solomon and Clara (Gross) Hofer in Bowdle. He was raised at Pembrook Colony and was currently in the eighth grade there.
One of his favorite pastimes was reading. He would read almost anything he could get his hands on, and read the Bible from front to back numerous times. He was known for his helpfulness and sense of humor.
Survivors include his parents of Pembrook Colony; one brother, Wayne Hofer of Nebraska; three sisters, Heidi Hofer, Lorena Hofer, and Marcella Hofer, all of Pembrook Colony; his paternal grandmother, Mary Hofer of Pembrook Colony; and his maternal grandparents; John and Katie Gross of Spring Creek Colony, near Forbes, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, and one sister.
Clarence Marliegh Wheeldon
Aberdeen - The memorial service for Clarence Marliegh Wheeldon, 70, of Aberdeen will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. The Rev. Brad Kingsriter will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Riverside cemetery with military graveside rites by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post No. 24 of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
He died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Clarence Marliegh Wheeldon was born Feb. 4, 1932, to Clifford and Emily (Marlette) Wheeldon in Aberdeen. This is the area where he was raised and attended school. He was employed at Comes Restaurant and Walgreen's. He entered the U.S. Marines in 1950.
He married
Anna Mae Song on April 18, 1953, in Aberdeen. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1956, they lived in Orange, Calif., for a couple of years. In 1958, they returned to Aberdeen where he was self-employed as a carpenter. He continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.
He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his former wife and special friend, Anna Mae Padbury of Aberdeen; one son, Daniel Wheeldon of Aberdeen; three daughters, Vivian (Duke) Moroz of Port Angeles, Wash., Lynn (Larry) Wheeldon-Glazener of Arlington, Texas, and Karri (Thomas) Perdue of Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Rolland Wheeldon and Clifford Wheeldon, both of Aberdeen; three sisters, Rene Cody and Ruth Franzen, both of Denver, and Julie Swenson of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Lowell Carl Dohn
¦Fort Worth, Texas - Lowell Carl Dohn, 41, of Fort Worth and formerly of Eureka died of natural causes Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Baylor University Medical Center in Irving, Texas.
