Cora J. Petersen
Hendricks, Minn. — May 8, 1918 - June 10, 2006
Cora J. Petersen, 88, died on Saturday, June 10, 2006, in the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, Minn.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks, Minn. The Rev. Duane Baun will officiate.
Burial is in the East Hendricks cemetery in Hendricks. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Hendricks Hospital Chapel on Tuesday and will resume prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
The Birk Funeral Home in Hendricks is in charge of the arrangements.
Cora J. Petersen was born on May 8, 1918, near Hendricks, Minn., to Martin and Gina (Sommervold) Christopherson. She was raised near Hendricks and was baptized and confirmed at Lake Hendricks Lutheran Free Church.
On Nov. 12, 1938, she married Holger Petersen. Following their marriage they lived near Lake Benton, Minn., where she helped on the family farm.
Throughout her life, Cora lived in several communities in South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado; before returning to Hendricks in 1999. She entered the Hendricks Nursing Home on April 3, 2006.
In her earlier years she enjoyed having coffee with friends, neighbors and family. She also enjoyed sitting on the front porch visiting and watching children play. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and dancing.
She is survived by her eight children: Richard (Gloria) Petersen of Hendricks, Gayle Sudduth of Hendricks, Harry Petersen of Wichita, Kan., Leon Petersen of Wichita, Tommy (Gail) Petersen, Garber, Okla., Jerry (Loretta) Petersen of Haysville, Kan., Billy Petersen of the Philippines and Linda Knott of Hendricks; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marcella (Millard) Lang of Starbuck, Minn., Vada (Walter) Blom of Hendricks, Joyce (Glen) Anderson of Elkton, Helen Hemish of Canby, Minn., and Alice (James) Leuning of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Leonard, Kenneth and Clifford Christopherson; two sisters, Viola Kloskin and Pearl Bergman; and one granddaughter, Natisha Rowland.

Donald E. Schinderling, 69
Donald E. Schinderling, 69, of Rapid City and formerly of Huron, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at home.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rapid City with the Rev. Raymond Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Black Hills National cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Visitation will be at the Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City Thursday afternoon with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Donald E. Schinderling was born May 29, 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Adrianne Schinderling of Rapid City; three daughters, Debra Ross of Rapid City; Linda Harder of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; and Jane (David) Scheele of Westminster, Colo.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Wickherst of Arkansas and Connie Vensand of Madison; and a brother, Mahlon Schinderling of Huron.
Memorials have been established at Hospice of the Hills and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Ellen O. Straw
(June 10, 1907 - January 12, 2004)
Ellen O. Straw, age 96, of Madison, SD, died Monday, January 12, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare, Madison.
Ellen Olive Getty was born June 10, 1907, at Chester, SD, to Arthur and Helen Leone (Jones) Getty. She graduated from Chester High School and attended Eastern Normal College for one year. She married Thomas Straw on October 1, 1929, at Madison. They farmed in Lake County for several years before moving into Madison. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene where she received a distinguished service award.
preceded in death BY: her parents; her husband in 1991; three sons, Thomas, Ernest and Roger; one grandson, Terry Severtson; two brothers, Elmer Getty and Johnny Getty; and one sister, Bessie Phipps.
SURVIVORS: five daughters, Ruth (Marvin) Bagley of Madison, Wilda Severtson of Brandon, SD, Virginia Kaufman of Kent, WA, Mary (Gordon) Boe of North Wales, PA, and Carol (Charlie) Clark of Vermillion, SD; one half-sister, Pearl White of California; 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Interment: Prospect cemetery, Chester, South Dakota

Elsa Viola Durant, 92
Elsa Viola Durant, 92, of Carthage died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at the De Smet Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Carthage. Burial will be in the Pleasantview cemetery in Carthage.
Visitation will begin at noon today with a prayer service at 8 p.m., all at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by a daughter, Irene (Ronald) Pederson of Aurora, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, LaVonne Durant of Carthage; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul in 1988; a son Richard in 1998; three brothers; four stepbrothers; and two stepsisters.

Roger B. Anderson
Lake Poinsett — Aug. 31, 1934 - June 9, 2006
Roger B. Anderson, 71, died on Friday, June 9, 2006, at his residence at Lake Poinsett.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Brookings with Bishop Scott Gardner officiating. Burial is in the Poinsett cemetery. Visitation is one hour preceding services at the church.
He was born Aug. 31, 1934 in Sioux Falls, the son of Henry Martin and Myrtle M. (Bute) Anderson. He grew up and received his education in Sioux Falls and was employed at John Morrell and Company for 34 years before retiring in 1987.
He married Deloris Little Eagle on June 2, 1990, in Sioux Falls. They moved to Lake Poinsett in 1999.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Brookings. Roger enjoyed fishing from the end of his dock and was also an avid woodworker. He loved to make bird houses and miscellaneous crafts and donated one to the Altrussa Club each year.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris, of Lake Poinsett; his children, Michael Anderson and Vickie Clark, both of Washington, Kathy Brown of Arizona City, Ariz., Teresa (Michael) Blazek of Dodge Center, Minn., Irvin Loeffler of Dodge Center, Minn., Kenneth (Sheila) Loeffler of Hollandale, Minn., and Lisa (Erasmo) Fuentes of Austin, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Jerome (Dena) Anderson of Florida, Jim (Becky) Anderson of Volga and Tom (Marilyn) Anderson of Lexington, Ky.

Peter Emroy Kelly
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
Oct. 28, 1936 - May 27, 2004
Peter Emroy “Pete” Kelly, 67, died on Thursday, May 27, 2004.
Graveside memorial services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Riverview cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. The English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Elkton to Raymond Emroy and Eda (Peterson) Kelly on Oct. 28, 1936.
He attended Dakota State University in Madison and South Dakota State University before marrying Florence Deis on Jan. 2, 1960.
He served as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Spokane, Wash., for many years and was the safety and health director for Timber Products Manufacturers from 1978 to 1992, and for Louisiana Pacific until he retired in 2001.
He is survived by five children, Lynda (Robert) Holman of Renton, Wash., Luann Kelly of West Richland, Wash., Steven Kelly of Corvalis, Ore., Perry (Kim) Kelly of Kennewick, Wash., and Brian (Dora) Kelly of West Richland, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Gehrts.

John W. Staup
(June 17, 1911 - April 24, 2008)
John W. "Jack" Staup, age 96, of Madison, South Dakota, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Madison Community Hospital.
John W. Staup was born June 17, 1911, at Jamestown, Pennsylvania, to Howard and Edith (Brest) Staup. He lived most of his life in western Pennsylvania receiving his elementary education in Jamestown and graduating from Slippery Rock High School. He furthered his education at Slippery Rock University. On May 5, 1934, he married Mary Morton, daughter of Grant and Bessie Morton, of Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania. They had one child. In 1974 he retired from the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad. Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison.
preceded in death BY: his parents; his wife in 2000; one brother Clarence Staup and one sister Florence Staup Varnum.
SURVIVORS: include one daughter, Susie (Dr. Ralph) Wagoner of Lake Madison; two grandchildren, Amanda (Craig) Entwistle and Joe Wagoner; and one great granddaughter, Grace Howell Wagoner.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Home Foundation

Gary Dean Jonker

Gary Dean Jonker, 52, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bangalore, India.
Funeral services are on Saturday at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home in Kenosha, Wis. Visitation is on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.piasecki-althaus.com/.
Born April 9, 1952, in Estelline, he was the son of Raymon G. and Verna G. (Rhody) Jonker.
He attended schools in South Dakota and was a 1970 graduate of Estelline High School. In 1980, he came to Kenosha and attended University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where he received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
For nine years, he served with the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he served with the Wisconsin National Guard from 1980 until the time of his death.
On Oct. 30, 1976 in Kenosha, he married Mary A. Annessi. That marriage ended in divorce.
From 1984 until 2003, he was employed as an electrical engineer for Snap-On Inc. In April 2004, he went to work with Cooper Power Inc., where he was employed at the time of his death. He also taught in the automotive and electronics department at Gateway Technical College.
He was a member of The Southport Gun Club, where he was the official league scorer, and the Automotive Technicians of Southeastern Wisconsin.
Survivors include his mother, Verna G. Jonker of Brookings; a daughter, Amber M. (Bryon) Sohns of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two brothers, Michael D. (Deb) Jonker of Breckenridge, Minn., and Dennis L. (Lois) Jonker of Sioux Falls, and a sister-in-law, Judy Jonker of Brookings.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Allen R. and Gerald D. Jonker.

Carl White
Renton, Wash.
July 21, 1913 - June 4, 2004
Carl White, 90, died June 4, 2004.
A military service with a 12-gun salute and other military honors was held on June 19. Graveside services were June 9 at Tahoma cemetery in Kent, Wash.
He was born on July 21, 1913, in Brookings County. He was a veteran of World War II and a survivor of the D-Day invasion. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Washington until he retired.
Family and friends enjoyed his many stories of war experiences, growing up on a farm in South Dakota, hunting trips, work with the railroad and his annual trips to South Dakota.
He was the last surviving child of Jacob and Eva White.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Wallace, Andrew and Charlie White, and two sisters, Elsie Glen and Iva Karstens.

El Roy Buhr

April 10, 1926 - July 24, 2004
The Rev. El Roy E. Buhr, 78, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Burial is at St. John’s Lutheran cemetery in Sumner, Iowa. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home in Waterloo, Iowa. The Skroch Funeral Chapel in Elkton is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 10, 1926, near Sumner, Iowa, to Henry and Ida (Huebner) Buhr. On May 2 he was baptized by Rev. C.J. Mardorf and he was confirmed on April 2, 1939, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.
After graduating from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, he was ordained on June 12, 1949, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He married Lavon Mennenga on July 29, 1951, at Waterloo, Iowa.
Buhr served four Lutheran congregations in Iowa and southern Minnesota. In April 1980 they moved to Waterloo, where he worked at Payless Cashways for 10 years. He served as organist at Pilgrim Lutheran Church for 23 years. The couple moved to Elkton in March 2003 to be near their daughter, Elaine. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton.
He is survived by his wife, Lavon of Elkton; two daughters, Beth (Richard) Voswinkel of Eldorado, Wis., and Elaine (Dave) Van Dyke of Elkton; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Helen Brase of Tripoli, Iowa, and two sisters-in-law, Vera Buhr of Aurora, Iowa, and Lucille Buhr of Sumner, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
