OSCAR P. OLSON

Oscar P. Olson, age 101 of Bowdle, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1993 at the Bowdle
Nursing Home.

His funeral was Friday, Dec. 10, at the Evangel United Methodist Church in
Bowdle with the Rev. Orland Sloat officiating.

Burial followed at the Bowdle City Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the
Bowdle American Legion Post 264.

Oscar P. Olson was born July 18, 1892 at Vienna (SD) to Paul and Helene
(Hanson) Olson. During his early childhood he moved with his family from Vienna
to Sisseton. He recalled they loaded their belongings onto a hayrack and the
four-day trip to the new home 11 miles northwest of Sisseton began. It was slow
because the livestock had to be driven by someone on foot.

He received an eighth grade education. He served in the U.S. Army during world
War I, serving nine months in France. After his discharged he worked as a
contractor and builder in the Aberdeen area until 1931.

He married Gertrude Goettling on Jan. 23, 1926 at Aberdeen. In 1931 they moved
to a farm south of Bowdle and in 1940 they moved into Bowdle.

Mr. Olson continued to work as a contractor and builder until his retirement.

He was a civic-minded person, serving as commander of the Bowdle American
Legion Post 264 in 1957-1958. He also served as alderman on the Bowdle City
Council. He was very instrumental in getting the Bowdle Hospital and Nursing
Home started. He was also a longtime member of the Bowdle Volunteer Fire
Department.

He helped renovate the building that houses the Bowdle Senior Citizens Center
serving on the Executive Board and Building Committee. He was a member of the
Evangel United Methodist Church at Bowdle.

His hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include one son: Gaylord G. Olson of Princeton, NJ; one daughter:
Mrs. Julius (Vangie) Schilling of Prescott Valley, AZ; one sister: Agnes
Johnson of Sisseton; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Aug. 17, 1986, one
daughter, one brother and six sisters.

Pallbearers were Alvin Kurle, Morris Kurle, Ray Bachman, Melvin Bollinger, Ralph
Dewald and Ozzie Schlepp, all of Bowdle.

Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle was in charge of the arrangements.

EDGAR F. PIETZKE

Edgar F. Pietzke, age 78 of Lodi, CA died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1993 at home
following a brief illness.

A native of Bowdle, Mr. Pietzke settled in Lodi in 1939. He was a self-employed
truck driver for more than 40 ears and had also driven for T&T Trucking Company
and Claude C. Woods over the years.

He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading,
bike riding and walking.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gertrude Pietzke of Lodi, CA; two sons:
Brian Pietzke of Plymouth, CA and Jerry Pietzke of Lodi, CA; a daughter:
Marilyn Pietzke of Lodi, CA; a sister: Elinore Myers of Huntington Beach, CA;
and two grandchildren.

His funeral was at 1:30 p.m. today (Dec. 3) in the Emanuel Lutheran Church with
Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral home of Lodi, CA, in charge of arrangements.
Committal was at Cherokee Memorial Park at Lodi, CA.

HENRY DICKHAUT

Henry Dickhaut, age 83 of Brandon and formerly of Tolstoy, died Monday, Oct. 18,
1993, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

His funeral was Oct. 1, at the Tolstoy United Methodist Church with the Rev.
Orland Sloat officiating. Burial followed at the German Zion Congregational
Cemetery at Tolstoy under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.

Henry Dickhaut was born Nov. 4, 1909 at Odessa, Russia, to John and Katherine
(Dickhaut) Dickhaut. When he was 9 months old, he moved with his family to
America, first settling at Lesterville. In 1922 he moved with his family to
Madison township in Edmunds County. In 1929 he moved with his parents to a farm
southwest of Tolstoy.

He married Evelyn Wolff June 13, 1934, at the home of her parents near Onaka.
They lived and farmed in the Onaka and Tolstoy area. In 1955 they moved into
Tolstoy and he worked for 17 years at Banik Elevator and also was janitor at the
Tolstoy Town Hall.

Following his retirement he helped on the farms of Kenny Stephan and Larry
Trefz until his health failed in 1989. He and his wife moved to Brandon July
31, 1992 to be near family.

He was a member of the Tolstoy United Methodist Church where he served as
Sunday School treasurer for 30 years. He also was a member of the Church Men's
Club. He belonged to the Tolstoy ABC Community Club from its beginning and
helped with many projects. He was also a 4-H leader for five years. He loved
gardening and his main interest in life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Brandon; three sons: Donald Dickhaut and
wife, Delores of Denver, CO; Jerry Dickhaut and wife, Judy of Casper, WY; and
Rich Dickhaut of LaQuinta, CA; four daughters: Mrs.. Charles (Bette) Niles of
Fresno, CA; Karen Kurkowski of Omaha, NE; Mrs. Lyle (Beverly) Pfeifle of
Brandon; and Mrs. Don (Alyce) Sutton of Fresno, CA; one sister: Mrs. Albert
(Rose) Bertsch of Aberdeen; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter in infancy, one brother
and two grandchildren.

JOHN G. (SPARKY) STOECKER

John G. (Sparky) Stoecker, age 78 of Hosmer, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1993 at
Medcenter One at Mandan, ND. His funeral was Oct. 25, at St. John Lutheran
Church in Hosmer with Pastor Bruce Falksen officiating.

Burial followed at Bethany Cemetery at Hosmer with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle
in charge of arrangements.

John G. (Sparky) Stoecker was born Nov. 23, 1914 at Hosmer to Gottlieb and
Katherina (Trefz) Stoecker. He attended school in Hosmer, graduating from Hosmer
High School with the Class of 1933.

Following graduation he worked at the Hosmer Service Station for a number of
years. He then clerked at the Hosmer Grocery Store for several years. In the
early 1940s he established Stoecker Jewelry at Hosmer. In the later 40s he
added electrical supplies to is stock.

He married Ida Fischer at Leola April 3, 1954. He continued to own and operate
his own business in Hosmer until Aug. 23, 1993 when he became hospitalized and
was eventually diagnosed with a brain tumor.

He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church of Hosmer
where he served on numerous committees and was also a Sunday School teacher. He
was a member of the Hosmer Civic Club and served as treasurer for a number of
years. he was also a member of the Hosmer Senior Center where he held several
terms as president, including the present. His work was also his hobby. He
especially enjoyed working with jewelry.

Survivors include two brothers: Dewald Stoecker of Albuquerque, NM; and Albert
Stoecker of Hosmer; three sisters: Mrs. Rose Haerter of Hosmer; Mrs. Matilda
Eisenbeisz of Fallon, NV and Mrs. Martha Bongfeldt of Dallas, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of Sept. 23, 1990 and one
brother.

Pallbearers were Duane Steiger and Glenn Blumhardt of Bowdle; Bruce Haerter,
Arnold Wiederrich and Frank Gisi of Hosmer and Milbert Pfeifle of Leola.

Ida Brugman

Date of Deceased: Wednesday, March 08, 2000

Ida O. Brugman, 92, Watertown, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at a Watertown hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Westgard officiating. Music will be presented by organist A.J. Sherrill and soloist Don Seim.

Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Monty, Marvin, Mark and Mick Daganaar, John Jenkins, Clinton Stickles, Don Brownell and Don Brinkman.

Visitation will be today (Friday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sogn-Messer Funeral Home and Saturday at the church prior to the services. The family is asked to meet Saturday at the church at 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.

Ida Brugman was born Aug. 29, 1907, to Ole and Thea (Bjerke) Mundahl at Courtney, N.D. She married William R. Brugman Aug. 29, 1925, at Morris, Minn.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews including, Marlene and Marvin Daganaar of Omaha, Neb., and Ardell and Don Brownell of Watertown.

Merna Hummel

Date of Deceased: Tuesday, March 07, 2000

SIOUX FALLS — Merna Hummel, 80, Sioux Falls, formerly of Watertown, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at a Sioux Falls hospital of cancer.

Memorial services were today (March 10) at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls.

Burial was in the Hills of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Any memorials may be donated to the Handi-Riders Inc., 46498 259th St. Hartford, S.D. 57003.

The George Boom Funeral Home of Sioux Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Merna Hummel was born April 22, 1919, in Richland Township, near Troy in Codington County to Evert and Pluma (Guthrie) Pickrel. She eloped with Mervin Hummel June 2, 1939. They were married in Arlington.

Survivors include her husband of Sioux Falls; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy and Sandy and Jim, all of Sioux Falls; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Dorita and Robert Schuldt of Renner, Pam and Garry Murren of Norfolk, Neb., Jan and Jerry Nicolay of Sioux Falls and Carol Huether of Wessington Springs; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Jenkins of West Covnia, Calif.

Sister M. George Jurgens

Date of Deceased: Wednesday, March 08, 2000

ABERDEEN — Sister M. George Jurgens, 85, of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, formerly of the Milbank area, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at an Aberdeen hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Presentation Heights in Aberdeen with the Rev. David Roehrick officiating.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sister George’s nephews: James, Tim, Larry and Mike Jurgens, Robert Hick and Dennis Fonder.

Visitation will be today (Friday) from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel with a wake service at 6 p.m. The Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marie Jesse Jurgens was born April 1, 1914, in Milbank to Annie Janssen Jurgens and George H. Jurgens.

Survivors include her Community Family of Presentation Sisters; a sister, Alvina Hicks of Milbank; and a brother, Vincent Jurgens of Milbank.

Francis Kreidermacher

Date of Deceased: Monday, February 21, 2000

ROLLINGSTONE, Minn. — Francis “Fran” P. Kreidermacher, 87, Rollingstone, husband of Audrey (Ohlsen) Kreidermacher, formerly of Clark, S.D., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at a Winona nursing home.

Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone with the Rev. Edward McGrath officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Mr. Kreidermacher’s nephews. Military honors were presented by the Lewiston American Legion.

The Hoff Funeral Homes Burke Winona Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Francis Peter Kreidermacher was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Mount Vernon Township, Winona County, to Lawrence Lewis and Hedwig (Kohner) Kreidermacher. He married Audrey Ohlsen June 9, 1941, in Avoca.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Faye and Randall Morrison-Blodue of Brooklyn Park and Lois Kreidermacher of Rochester; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Connie, Robert, James and Rose and Jack and Delores, all of Rollingstone; and a sister-in-law, Marcella Kreidermacher of Rollingstone.

Fern Tapey

Date of Deceased: Wednesday, March 08, 2000

WEBSTER — Fern Tapey, 87, rural Webster, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at her residence.

There will be no services locally. Funeral services will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo., Monday, March 13.

The Fiksdal Funeral Home of Webster is in charge of the arrangements.

Beulah Fern Norden was born Sept. 2, 1912, to Arthur and Eva (Hopkins) Norden at Berywen, Neb. She married Emil Tapey.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Judy of Cedar Ridge, Colo., Harold and Stacey of Denver and Kenneth and Linda of Webster; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Velva Degner

Date of Deceased: Monday, March 06, 2000

Velva Mae “Bunny” Degner, 81, Salem, formerly of Watertown, died Monday, March 6, 2000, in Salem.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church at Salem.

Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery at Salem.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Kinzley Funeral Home at Salem with a prayer service Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church.

Velva Mae Grose was born Aug. 26, 1918, in Watertown to R. Francis and Martha Grose. She married Francis Degner Dec. 19, 1942, in Watertown.

Survivors include her husband of Salem; one son, Mark, of Hillsboro, Ore.; two daughters, Roberta Olson of Burnsville, Minn., and Jill Christopherson of Eau Claire, Wis.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanne Enstad of Duluth, Minn.
