Art Armstrong

Date of Deceased: Monday, March 06, 2000

MORRIS, Minn. — Funeral services for Art Armstrong, 81, Morris, formerly of Big Stone City, S.D., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Ortonville. The Rev. Richard Boehnke will officiate. Organist will be Pat Kunz. Vocalists will be Randy and Jessica Fischer.

Burial will be in Morris at the Summit Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, his great-grandchildren and the Joygivers. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeff and Joel Johnson, Randy Fischer and Jeremy, Jason, Shawn, Michael and Dan Armstrong.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.

Mr. Armstrong died Monday, March 6, 2000, at a medical center in Morris.

Arthur Roy Armstrong was born Nov. 4, 1918, to Arthur James and Clara (Smith) Armstrong at Swanville. He married Mildred Hess at Graceville Jan. 14, 1939.

Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Johnson of Brainerd; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Rosie of Carver and Ricky and Beverly of Waconia; five sisters-in-law, Laurel of Glenwood, Marjie of Morris, Mary Roske of Herman, Dorothy Harbeke of Page, N.D., and Gert Beyer of Dumon; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Jennie Johnson Totzke

The funeral for Jennie Johnson Totzke, 89, of Groton was held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Groton on July 7, 1998. The Rev. Steve Swenson officiated. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery with Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel of Groton in charge of arrangements.

She died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at her home in Groton.

Jennie Ness was born August 15, 1908, to Erick and Anna Marie (Osness) Ness at Pierpont. She grew up and attended school in the Pierpont area. She married Ruben L. Johnson on September 12, 1928, at Augustana Church, rural Claremont. They lived on a farm in Riverside Township, north of Groton. He died in 1969 and she moved into Groton.

She married Arthur Totzke on August 14, 1982, at Groton.

She was a member of Augustana Church until she moved to Groton. She became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Nigeria Circle of the church, American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens at Groton and ABC Club. She was an original member of the Handicraft Club.

Survivors include her husband of Groton; two sons, Merton (Ella) Johnson of Groton and Lyle (Mary) Johnson of Houston; one daughter, Arlys (Keith) Zoellner of Manhattan, Kan.; one brother, Harry Ness of Britton; two sisters, Lillian Clemens and Annie Tunheim, both of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, one son, two brothers and one sisters.

Casketbearers were Roger Johnson, Jerome Ness, Emery Sippel, Elden Tunheim, Dennis Johnson and Lyle Tunheim.

Arlis Doeden was the organist and Gene Brolin was the soloist.

Ushers were Dennis K. Larson and Mick Osterman.

Martie Taylor

The funeral for Martie Taylor, 89, of Conde, was held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton with the Rev. Emil Eberhart officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Crandall Cemetery near Conde.

She died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at St. Luke’s Midland Regional Medical Center in Aberdeen.

Martie Punkett was born April 22, 1908, to Henry and Ada (White) Punkett at Corvallis, Ore. She grew up in Oregon and attended school at Corvallis.

She married Caryl Taylor on March 6, 1942, in Washington state. They made their first home at Fort Stevens, Ore., while he was in the service. After he was discharged, they lived in Astoria, Ore. They retired and moved to Conde in 1966, where they have lived since.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Conde, the American Legion Auxiliary in Conde and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Redfield.

Survivors include her husband of Conde; three sons, Loyd Taylor, Sioux Falls, Bill Dixon, Corvallis and Art Dixon, Lebanon, Ore.; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Darwin D. Thompson

Mass of Christian burial for Darwin D. Thompson, 71, of Groton, was held Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton. Monsignor Marvin McPhee officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel of Groton.

Darwin D. Thompson was born February 7, 1927 to Chester “Chet” and Florence (Waggoner) Thompson at Groton. He attended grade school at the Thompson School in rural Groton and attended Groton High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 to serve in World War II. He received his honorable discharge in 1946.

He married Mary Ann Dohman on February 24, 1950 at Andover. They briefly lived in Groton before making their home for 47 years on their present farm. He farmed with his father and brothers, and then with his sons and grandsons.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and served on the church council. He was also a member of the Groton American Legion Post No. 39, the Fraternal Order of the Elks and the Moose Lodge of Aberdeen, the Putney school board, the Groton school board during the reorganization of the school districts, and was past president of the Putney elevator.

He enjoyed woodworking, travelling with his wife and farming with his sons and grandsons.

Survivors include his wife of Groton; two sons, Terry (Judy) Thompson of Groton, and Lon (Jewel) Thompson of McMinnville, Ore.; one daughter, Beth Thompson of St. Cloud, Minn.; three sisters, Audrey Thurston of Groton, Shirley Sueltz of Watertown, and Sondra Peckham of Buckley, Wash.; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Bob) Lessinger, Grand Forks, Jackie Thompson, Groton, Mark Thompson, Groton, Joshua Thompson and Lynnsey Thompson, both of McMinnville, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ivan Thompson.

Casketbearers were grandsons: Mark Thompson and Joshua Thompson; and nephews: David Dohman, Duane Dohman, David Reinhardt and James Marx.

The organist was Matt Hinds and the ushers were Gene Abeln, Leo Kersting, Steve Simon and Larry Schelle.

Memorial may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church building fund, 107 E. Seventh Ave., Groton, S.D. 57445.

Alvin Block
Block Enemy Swim Lake - Mass of Christian burial for Alvin Block, 85, of Enemy Swim Lake, rural Waubay, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. The Rev. John Garvey will officiate.

LeRoy 'Bud' Beer
Isabel - Mass of Christian burial for LeRoy "Bud" Beer, 73, of Isabel will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Tuesday at the Isabel Community Center in Isabel.

The Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek, the Rev. Steve Biegler, the Rev. Brian Simon, the Rev. Dennis Riss and the Rev. Brian Fawcett will officiate.

Don LeRoy Nowell
Nowell Glendive, Mont. - The funeral for Don LeRoy Nowell, 68, of Glendive and formerly of Tulare, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive.

The Rev. Larry Phalen will officiate.

Another service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Tulare United Church.

The Rev. James Waisanen will officiate.

Grace Sanden
Sisseton - Grace Sanden, 88, of Sisseton died Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Ebenezers Ridge Care Center in Burnsville, Minn.

Freda (Heupel) Larson
Aberdeen - Freda (Heupel) Larson, 86, of Aberdeen died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at ManorCare Health Services, Aberdeen.

Her funeral service will be Monday, April 8, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 515 8th Avenue NW, Aberdeen with Dr. Gregg Donaldson officiating.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111, South Main St., Aberdeen.

Clyde R. Huber
McIntosh - Clyde R. Huber, 45, of McIntosh died of natural causes Friday, April 5, 2002, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, N.D.

Mildred B. Bladow
The funeral for Mildred B. Bladow, 80, of Rutland will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nordland Lutheran Church in Rutland.

The Rev. Kristen Schwan will officiate.

Esther Aileen Gesaman Oxenrider
The funeral for Esther Aileen Gesaman Oxenrider, 100, of Ellendale will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Presbyterian United Methodist Church in Ellendale.

The Rev. Mary Ann Sheldon will officiate.

Stanley L. Hubert
Hecla - The funeral for Stanley L. Hubert, 83, of Hecla will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hecla.

Monsignor Edward Burian will officiate.

Mary Rohrich, 98, of Strasburg and formerly of Linton, N.D., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Strasburg Care Center.

McLaughlin - Mass of Christian burial for Donald William Schaeffer, 71, of rural McLaughlin will be at 11 a.m. CDT Tuesday at the Spirit of Life Church in Mandan, N.D.

The Rev. Cyprian Meier will officiate.

Lemmon - Mae Lorius, 96, of Lemmon died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Aberdeen - Charles "Chuck" Morrissey, 53, of Aberdeen died of natural causes on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at his residence.

Albert Raymond Baumgartner
Albert Raymond Baumgartner, 80, of Hague died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D.

Veblen - Tilla Herman, 92, of Veblen died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton.
