Marian Montgomery, 90
Marian Montgomery, 90, of Redfield, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Redfield.
Her memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort with the Revs. Grace Rhodes and J. Edwin Coates officiating. Cremains burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Frankfort.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Johnson and Wilma Rowlett, and a brother, Ernest Hassinger.
The Thelen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mabel Krause, 89
Mabel Krause, 89, of 480 Jersey Ave. N.E., and formerly of Wessington, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington with the Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial will be in the Wessington cemetery.
Friends may call this morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church this afternoon.
Pallbearers will be LaDean Kleinsasser, Lee Kleinsasser, LeRoy Kleinsasser, Neil Duxbury, Robert Duxbury and Boyd Schiltz.

June Morrison, 78
June Morrison, 78, of 1113 Wisconsin Ave. S.W., died Tues-day, Oct. 5, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Private family graveside services will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens cemetery followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church with the Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating.
Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home.
Arleen LaJune Larson was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Brookings to Lloyd and June (Aker) Larson. She grew up in the Brookings and Forestburg areas and graduated from Brookings High School.
She married W.H. “Bud” Morrison Jr. on Jan. 26, 1946. Huron was her home for 58 years. She was a devoted wife and mother and for many years she worked as the secretary at American Lutheran Church. A talented and creative soul, she had an enduring passion for cross-stitch needlework. She brightened the lives of her family and friends with her intricately woven cards and pictures, lovingly created to celebrate life’s many milestones and often “just because.”
She is survived by her husband, Bud Morrison, of Huron; a son, Bruce (Barb) Morrison of Huron; three daughters, Sharon (Bill) Mediger, Diane (David) Hylland and Carol (Denny) Haraldson, all of Sioux Falls; a sister, Audrey (Duane) Fodness of Lennox; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two grandsons.

Michelle Hartung, 39
Michelle Hartung, 39, of 1475 Lincoln Ave. S.W., died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with the Rev. Joe Holz-hauser officiating.
Burial will be at St. Martin cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service.
Michelle Hartung was born Sept. 24, 1966, to John and Louise (LaFrance) Hartung at Huron.
She lived in Huron until moving to Redfield in June 1972. She returned to Huron in March of 1986 where she has been a resident of the Huron Area Center for Independence.
Her interests included people watching, listening to music, collecting angels, attending music concerts and shopping with her primary caregiver, Alayne Rowcliffe.
She is survived by her father of Huron; a sister, Sharleen (Gary) Hansen of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and a brother, Shane (Nancy) of Sioux Falls.
She was preceded in death by her mother, May 7, 2001, and her grandparents.

Adena R. Hofer, 96
Adena R. Hofer, 96, of 420 21st St. S.W., died Thursday, March 16, 2006.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethesda Mennonite Church with the Rev. Rick Wolgamott officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Mennonite Brethren Church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Kuhler Funeral Home, and prior to the service at the church on Monday morning. The family will be present from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.
Pallbearers will be Harold Decker, Jerel Wedel, Lee Decker, Rodney Wipf, Vohn Decker and LaVerne Decker.

Ida L. Ferguson, age 90
Ida L. Ferguson, age 90, of 432 10th St. S.W., Huron, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at her home.
Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Young Son officiating.
Burial will be at the Manches-ter cemetery.
Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. this Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Ida Ferguson was born Ida L. Strickler on March 8, 1916, to Lloyd and Viola (Rhoades) Strickler at her grandparents’ home southwest of Iroquois. She attended Rosedale Country School and graduated from high school at Manchester, S.D.
On March 14, 1934, Ida married John Ferguson at Esmond, S.D. They lived on their farm north of Manchester until John’s death in 1973. Ida then moved to Huron where she has lived since that time. She worked for a short period of time at Zesto’s, and for several years at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.
She was a past member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church at Manchester until the church closed, then moved her membership to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church at Bancroft. Her many interests included writing poetry, playing cards, playing the piano, traveling, and yard work.
She is survived by seven children, Robert (Carla) Ferguson of Guttenberg, Iowa, Darlene (Lynn) Hopper of Cavour, Norman (Lois) Ferguson of Huron, Marilyn (Carl) Borrett of Colesburg, Iowa, Leonard (RoseAnn) Ferguson of Polo, Ill., Donald Ferguson of North Branch, Minn., and Sharon Crumrine of Evanston, Wyo.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Peoples of Huron, and Helen Strickler of Huron; one brother, Kenneth (Eileen) Strickler of Iroquois; a sister-in-law, Verlus Lewellen of Lake Preston; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on Jan. 17, 1973; one son, Ronald Ferguson, in infancy; one grandson, Patrick Ferguson; one sister, Miriam Reckard; two brothers, Leonard Strickler and Robert “Lyle” Strickler; one sister-in-law, Darrel Strickler; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Reckard and Elmer Peoples.
Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Jim, Scott, and John Ferguson, and Bruce, Duane, and Brent Borrett.

Joseph Red Water, 59
Joseph Red Water, 59, of West Bend, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center in Pierre.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in West Bend, with the Revs. Charles Wonch and Tom Westhoven officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s cemetery.
An all-night wake service will be held Sunday beginning at 4 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, West Bend.
Funeral arrangements were directed by Luze Funeral Home in Highmore.
Joseph Kearney Red Water was born Oct. 26, 1946, to Robert and Mary (Sargeant) Red Water at Harrold. He attended Stephan Immaculate Conception Mission School in the West Bend area.
He married Naomi Chapman on July 24, 1970, at Harrold. They made their home at West Bend where he worked as a farm laborer. They had four children. He and his wife divorced in 1973.
He enjoyed working on cars, throwing horseshoes, fishing, baseball, rodeos, powwows, playing bingo and spending time with friends at the casino.
Survivors include one brother, Dominic; a half-sister, Marcella Howe; two sons Alvin and Dale; one daughter: Mary Jo; 15 grandchildren; six nephews and 14 nieces.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert; his parents, two sisters, Stella Bull Bear and Lorraine Stuckle; two brothers, Marvin and Michael; one niece, Juliet Bull Bear; and one nephew, Dean Picotte.

Donna Halverson, 56
Donna Halverson, 56, of De Smet, died March 19, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in De Smet with the Rev. Cathal Gallagher officiating.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet.
Donna Paulson was born July 7, 1949, to Nels and Myrtle (Warne) Paulson at De Smet. She attended school in Bancroft and graduated from Irwin High School. She worked at a hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and at the Good Samaritan Center in De Smet. She worked for 28 years at Lyle Signs Inc in De Smet as well.
She married Dick Halverson Dec. 27, 1967, at De Smet. They lived at De Smet. She enjoyed fishing, decorating and playing cards. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in De Smet.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Tony (Dawn) of De Smet, Troy of De Smet and Tommy (Michelle) of Watertown; six sisters, Shirley Holland, Marjean (Bob) Patzwold, Diana (Gorden) Stanley, Kay (Barney) Kline, Maxine (George) Timmerman and Beverly Nelson; two brothers, Garen and Gordy (Sharon); 13 grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marilyn, and a brother, Roger.

Agnes H. Swanson, 79
Agnes H. Swanson, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen following a brief illness.
A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements were announced by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.

Agnes French was born Dec. 8, 1926, in Huron, to Archie and Elizabeth (Stewart) French.
She married Clarence Swanson on March 24, 1947. He died June 21, 1997. She was a homemaker, and an avid bowler and pheasant hunter.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen (Joe) Donovan of Cedar Rapids, Sandra (Jim) Fulton of Columbia Heights, Minn., and Lori (Jim) Mura of Middletown, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothie Pierce of Arlington, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Kristi; two sisters; and two brothers.

Fern Buchholz, 89
Fern Buchholz, 89, of Redfield, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.
Her memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Red-field with the Rev. Stephen Perry officiating.
A private family burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Fern Belle Rodman was born May 29, 1916, near Hitchcock to George and Thersa (Phillips) Rodman. She married Elmer Frankenstein Aug. 26, 1936. They farmed near Hitchcock until he died in 1944. She married Edwin Petersmeyer in 1945. They farmed near Tulare until he died in 1984. She worked at the Eastern Star Home. She married William Buchholz in 1986. They lived at Redfield and wintered in Arizona. He died in 1995.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Spink County Farm Bureau, Extension Club, Twentieth Century Club and enjoyed hobbies and crafts.
She is survived by three daughters, Regena (Donald) Thrall of Rapid City, Wilena Peterson of Larned, Kan., and Sheryl (Clayton) Kloss of Tulare; a daughter-in-law, Mikki (Kurt) Permann of Redfield; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; and a sister, Fay (Al) Bitterman of Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Frankenstein in 1974; two sisters, Marguritte Mortimer and Evelyn Reintsma; and a son-in-law, Robert Peterson.

Daryle Balster, 73
Daryle Balster, 73, of 1992 Lampert Dr., Huron, passed away Sunday morning, March 19, 2006, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Clinton Koth, near Canton, S.D.
His funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Calvary Baptist Church in Huron with the Rev. Bill Holmes officiating.
Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening or Thursday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Thursday afternoon. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Daryle Dean Balster was born in Mitchell, S.D., to Ernest and Estella (Wilson) Balster of Gann Valley, S.D., on May 31, 1932. He attended the Balster Country School near the farm and graduated from Wessington Springs Jr. College High School in 1950.
He married Kathleen Wahl on June 24, 1953. He lived on the home farm south of Gann Valley most of his life, engaged in diversified farming and ranching, and the last number of years they have lived in Huron.
Daryle was an avid hunter and welcomed many guests to enjoy pheasant and deer hunting with him. He also enjoyed flying his airplane. He restored his Model T Ford and antique tractors. His greatest joy was the times that his family was together.
He took a stand for what he believed and called family and friends to be sure they had Jesus in their heart so they could all be in heaven with him. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Huron and had served on several church boards. He served for 25 years on the Byron Bible Camp Board of Directors.
In addition to his beloved wife, Kathleen, he is survived by his children, Margaret Balster-Ziomkowski of Chugiak, Alaska, and her husband Daniel; Barbara Glee Koth of Canton, S.D., and her husband, Clinton; Elizabeth Grace Benson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and her husband, John; Brian Dean Balster of Platte, S.D., and his wife, Mica; Mary Jane Petersen of McLaughlin, S.D., and her husband, Jerry; David Ernest Balster of Huron, S.D., and his wife, Lisa; Conrad Dean Balster of Huron, S.D.; and grandchildren, Amanda Joy Church, Daniel Timothy Church, Lucas Reed Koth, Nicholas Jon Koth, Sara Nichole Benson, Kelsey Rae Benson, Erin Lindsey Benson, Kristal Renee Balster, Kimberly Dawn Balster, Karen Lorene Balster, Kathy Lynn Balster, Andrew Judd Petersen, Allison Francis Petersen, Dylan Daryle Balster, Devyn David Balster; one sister, Twila Glee Zastrow and her husband, Lee, of Wessington Springs, S.D.; and a brother-in-law, Albert Lomheim of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Lomheim.
