Betty Z. Bauer, 80
Betty Z. Bauer, 80, of Tryon, N.C. and formerly of Harrold, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the White Oak Manor in Tryon.
Her funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at United Meth-odist Church in Harrold with the Rev. Jenene Earl officiating.
Burial will be in Medicine Hill cemetery at Harrold directed by Luze Funeral Home of Highmore.
There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Betty Zane Johnston was born Aug. 5, 1925, at her grandparents’ home at Forreston, Texas, to Cecil and Emily (Jarrett) Johnston. She graduated from Forreston High School and moved to Dallas, Texas, where she worked at Neiman Marcus. She married Mathew Bauer Nov. 7, 1943.
In 1946 they moved to a farm southwest of Harrold. He died in 1989. In 1991 she moved to Lake Wales, Florida, and in 1997 moved to Tryon.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, UMW, Steakette Cattle Women, Flower Club and volunteered at St. Luke’s Thrift Store and White Oak Nursing Home.
She is survived by three children, Sharon (Marty) Winckler of Harrold, Rick of Harrold and Jean (Garry) Snipes of Tryon; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and an infant daughter.

Vera Corcoran, 92
Vera Corcoran, 92, formerly of 34 Second St. S.E., died Monday, March 13, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Holzhauser officiating.
Burial will be in St. Martin cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday after 2 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church. The family may be reached at the Cherryl Corcoran residence, 767 Lawnridge Ave. S.E.
Vera Rose Anderson was born April 18, 1913, to Gustav and Thresa (Hook) Anderson in rural Hitchcock. She attended rural school. On June 12, 1943, she married Charles Corcoran at Huron. She was employed by the J.C. Penney Company for many years. They owned and operated Huron Cleaners for 45 years before they retired. They were charter members of the Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Hoy of Indianapolis, Ind; a daughter-in-law, Cherryl Corcoran of Huron; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 19, 2003; a son, Jerry, on April 22, 2005; a son-in-law, Richard Hoy; a stepfather, Owen Graden; two brothers, Roy and Neal; and four sisters, Rae Kenison, Hazel Specht, Edith Poulisse and Edna in infancy.
Pallbearers will be Scott, Bret and Tim Corcoran, Lisa Cranston, and Rick and Jason Hoy.

Kenneth Nuttbrock, 73
Kenneth Nuttbrock, 73, of Watertown, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Collins cemetery at Willow Lake. Arrangements are with Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet.
Kenneth Nuttbrock was born Oct. 2, 1932, to Edwin and Irma (Peterson) Nuttbrock in Clark County. He grew up in the Willow Lake area and attended school through the eighth grade.
He served in the Army from 1953-55, serving in Korea and receiving a medal for duty served. He married Jackie Larson.
He lived in Bryant where he operated a TV repair business, moved to Colome, then to Pierre where he worked in sales and retired in Watertown.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Willow Lake American Legion.
He is survived by two sons, Keith (Kathy) and Kevin, all of Pierre; a daughter, Jill LeCheche of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Marie (Claire) Langland of De Smet; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Elsie Elizabeth Parker Horn, 70
Elsie Elizabeth Parker Horn, 70, of Mena, Ark., died Monday, April 17, 2006.
A graveside service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park with John Owen and the Rev. Terry Chapman officiating.
Elsie Elizabeth Schilling was born Nov. 23, 1935, at Onaka to Fred and Laura (Elliott) Schilling. She was married to Lloyd Parker and then Robert Horn.
She was a cafeteria supervisor for the Mena School District. She was a member of First Methodist Church, Elks Emblem Club, Mena Bowling League, American School Food Service Association, Retired Teachers Association and was a Red Cross volunteer.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Ora Parker of Cove, Ark.; three daughters, Laura Parker of DeRuyter, N.Y., Janice Turcott of Mena and Sara (Dennis) Bailey of Malvern, Ark.; two stepchildren, Pam (George) Rider of Irving, Texas, and Veldonna (Tony) Retel of Anchorage, Alaska; three brothers, Ivan (Miriam) of Midland, Harry (Alma) of Redfield and Vernon (Amelia) of Aberdeen; a sister, Sara (Bill) Lembke of Glendale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, parents and a sister, Hazel Peterson.

Rita Lehmen, 70
Rita Lehmen, 70, formerly of 552 Frank S.E., died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Huron Mission Church with the Rev. Richard Birr officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Me-mory Gardens cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to the service. Arrangements are with Kuhler Funeral Home.
Rita Jean Wipf was born Aug. 28, 1935, at St. Paul, Minn., to Zack and Matilda (Waldner) Wipf. They moved to Yale when she was young and she graduated from Yale High School in 1953.
She married Cecil Plunkett Jan. 19, 1957, at Huron. They owned Smokey’s Liquor Store. He died March 19, 1969, at the age of 38.
She married Edwin Lehmen Dec. 6, 1969, at Huron. They continued Smokey’s Liquor Store and she worked as a sales clerk at Newberry’s and as a cook at Huron Regional Medical Center for a number of years. He died April 8, 2000, at the age of 69.
She attended Huron Mission Church. Her hobbies included ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, baking and cooking,
She is survived by a son, Michael (Debbie) Lehmen of Huron; a stepson, Kendall (Sharon) Lehmen of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Adeline (Eli) Walter of Elbing, Kan., and Lillian Walter, Jane (Dennis) Decker and Rose (Eugene) Brenner, all of Huron; a brother, Zack (Sherry) of Huron; and a brother-in-law, Christie Hofer of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a sister, Edna Hofer; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Walter.
Pallbearers will be Danny, Todd and Victor Decker, Brent and Brad Brenner, and Dan Keefe.

William “Bill” Schlotter, 53, of Aberdeen
William “Bill” Schlotter, 53, of Aberdeen and formerly of Redfield, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at First United Meth-odist Church with the Rev. Eldon Reich officiating. Inurn-ment will be later in Frankfort.
Arrangements were announced by Spitzer Funeral Home in Aberdeen. The family prefers memorials to First United Methodist youth group.
William Robert Schlotter was born July 7, 1953, at Redfield, to William and Betty (Barrie) Schlotter. He graduated from Doland High School in 1971. He went on to attend technical school in Lincoln, Neb., for two years before moving to Aberdeen where he farmed south of Doland. He also worked for the South Dakota Department of Labor for 33 years.
On July 16, 1983, he married Penny Hazelrigg at Doland.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He had the privilege of going on an African Safari two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Penny of Aberdeen; one son, Billy Schlotter and special friend, Ericka Newcomb, of Aberdeen; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Ted Salveson of Huron; his mother-in-law, June Scher of Aberdeen; two brothers-in-law, Brad (Lora) Hazelrigg and Don Muellenberg; and a stepbrother, Ted J. “Butch” Salveson of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his father, William; two sisters, Paula Schlotter and Betta Muellenberg; one brother, Paul Schlotter; and a stepsister, Luanne “Sissy” Bertsch.

Marlene Gentile, 57
Marlene Gentile, 57, of Milan, Minn., and formerly of Miller, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at home of cancer.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Miller with the Rev. John Helmueller officiating.
Burial will be in St. Ann’s cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Reck Funeral Home in Miller with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the church.
Marlene Mae Fanning was born Nov. 5, 1948, at Huron to Jack and Irene (Beaner) Fanning. She attended grade school at St. Lawrence Public School and graduated from Mount Mary High School in Yankton.
In May 1967 she attended Mount Marty College and completed her accounting degree from Dickinson State University in Dickinson, N.D., in 1990.
She was employed at Dickinson Redi-Mix, Chuck Wendel & Associates at Valley City, N.D., and Lee & Berner LTD at Montevideo. On Dec. 2, 1967, she married Jim Gentile at Miller. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and cooking.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Jim (Dawn) of Brookings and Brett (Jessica) of Devils Lake, N.D.; six grandchildren; her mother of St. Lawrence; and five brothers, John (Penny) of Sioux Falls, Jeff (Sherry) Fanning of Harrisburg, Ore., and Jerry (Bobbi), Randy (Teresa) and Jay, all of St. Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Michael and Joel.

Alfred “Al” Meyer, 76, of John Day, Ore.
Alfred “Al” Meyer, 76, of John Day, Ore., and formerly of Huron, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, after a long battle with cancer.
A memorial service was held Sept. 15 at the Church of the Nazarene in John Day.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Grant County Food Bank or the American Cancer Society through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, Ore. 97845.
Alfred Meyer was born June 14, 1930, in Harrold to Adam and Pauline (Rieb) Meyer.
He grew up in Miller and later moved to Huron, where he graduated from high school in 1948.
He served in the Navy (submarine service) from 1948-1954.
He earned degrees in forest and range management from Oregon State University.
He worked for the U.S. Forest Service from 1958 to 1970.
He moved to John Day in 1971, and served as the Bear Valley District Ranger through 1980.
He served as Prairie City District Ranger until 1984. He retired from the forest service in 1986.
He was involved in many special projects with the USFS, including organizing the first wild horse roundup.
He was elected to four consecutive terms on the John Day City Council from 1984 to 1995.
He was also a board member of the Mid-County cemetery District during the 1980s.
He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Howard Meyer of John Day; a son, David Meyer of John Day; a daughter, Susan Brannon of Tigard, Ore.; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Linda Skarin of Huron, Louella Hanson of Sun City, Calif., and Lena Seaman and Betty Schroeder, both of Temecula, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a son, Nathan; his parents; three brothers, Edwin, Ervin and Arnold; and three sisters, Bertha Meyer, Annetta Johnson and Irene Wilson.

Mark Harens, 51
Mark Harens, 51, of Lennox, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at home.
His memorial service will be at 4 p.m. at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home in Lennox.
Burial will be in Hurley cemetery.
Mark Harens was born April 25, 1955, at Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1973.
He was an electrical lineman for Beach Construction in Huron and for the Corp of Engineers in Pierre.
He moved to Lennox in 2000 and married Stacy Williams in 2003.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sarah Greff and her mother, Judy, of Pierre; and two brothers, Charles (Lola) and Paul (Kathy) of Yankton.
