Leo Beranek
1942-2013

Leo F. Beranek, age 71, passed away peacefully and in true Catholic fashion on All Souls’ Day, November 2, 2013, following a valiant fight with esophageal cancer. Ever the optimist, Leo’s jovial spirits and positive outlook on life carried him with grace to his last day.

Leo was born on July 5, 1942 to Joseph and Mary Alice (Heenan) Beranek. He was raised in South Hand and lived in Hand County throughout his life. Because of an introduction made by his mother, he met his soulmate, Mary Goodwin. They were married on November 3, 1962.

Leo took over and continued to operate the farmland homesteaded by his Grandfather James Beranek.

Walter E. Anderson
1919-2013

Walter E. Anderson, age 94, Clark, S.D. died peacefully in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown, Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with The Reverend Jen Tyler officiating.

Burial with full military rites will follow in the Rose Hill cemetery at Clark.

Donna Marie Petersen
1931-2013

Donna Marie Petersen, 82, of Miller, S.D., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 4 at the First Baptist Church in Miller. Burial was at Hillcrest cemetery in Miller.

Andrew F. Brothanek
1921-2013

Andrew Brothanek, 92, of Miller, S.D., passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at his son’s home in St. Paul, Minn.

The funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Pastor Brian Jones officiating. Burial followed at GAR cemetery, Miller.

Andy was born September 30, 1921 to Frank Joseph and Henrietta (Kruse) Brothanek.

Everet A. Rombough
1936-2013

Everet A. Rombough, age 77, of Virgil, S.D., went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013. He battled cancer for six years and died peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife, son, and four daughters.

His funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Riverview United Methodist Church, Huron, with the Rev. Dean Trapp, officiating. Burial was in the Black Hills National cemetery Monday, Oct. 28.

Donald L. Jury
1960-2013

Donald L. Jury, age 53, of Huron, S.D., formerly of Miller, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at his home in Huron.

His funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Huron, with burial at the Riverside cemetery. Visit www.welterfuneralhome.com.

Donald Linnell Jury, the son of Delbert and Doris (McElvain) Jury, was born on March 11, 1960 at the Hand County Hospital in Miller, S.D.

Mavis Jeppesen
1935-2013

Mavis Jeppesen, age 78, of Wall, S.D., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Wall Community Center, with the Rev. David Olson officiating. Interment was at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established.

Mavis Darlene Curl was born February 26, 1935, in Wessington Springs, S.D.

Neil D. Davis
1943-2013

Neil D. Davis, 70, of Yakima, Wash., passed away on October 10, 2013.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, Yakima.

Neil was born on March 17, 1943 in Miller, S.D. to Raymond G. Davis and Phyllis E. Davis.

Cooper Jackson Casavan
2007-2013

Cooper Jackson Casavan, six years, of Indianapolis, Ind., passed away peacefully at Riley Children’s Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.

A celebration of life was held Friday, Oct. 18 at Crown Hill Fueral Home Memorial Chapel. Interment was at Crown Hill cemetery H

Dorothy Mae Bultman
(March 17, 1932 - October 3, 2013)

Dorothy Mae Bultman, 81, of Elkhart, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the BSA Hospice in Amarillo, Texas.

The daughter of Clancy and Alice Marie (Blaken) Malone, she was born March 17, 1932 in Fort Riley, Kansas. Dorothy graduated from Junction City, Kansas High School with the Class of 1949.

Roy Lee Bultman and Dorothy Mae Malone were united in marriage on April 9, 1953 in Junction City. The Bultman’s made their home in Wessington, South Dakota for 47 years, moving to Elkhart in 2006.

Dorothy was a homemaker and member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Elkhart and the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Texhoma.

She was preceded and death by her parents; one son, Tony Cornell Bultman; one great grandson, Ethan Fanning; and one sister, Loretta Unford.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Bultman of the home; one daughter, Lana and husband, Marcus Moeller of Wolsey, South Dakota; one son, Mark Bultman and wife, Michelle of Ulysses, Kansas; five grandchildren: Hattie and husband, Adam Wiginton, Mark Bultman, Jr., Matthew Moeller and wife, Karen, Aaron Moeller and wife, Victoria and Leah and husband, Chris Fanning; nine great grandchildren: Danica, Macee and Eli Fanning, Hailey, Alana and Ryann Moeller and Maison, Anniston and Malani Wiginton; two sisters: Delores Thom of Lawton, Oklahoma and Shirley Bultman of Childress, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October 5th at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Elkhart with Rev. John Wackler, pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Texhoma officiating. Interment will follow in the Elkhart cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

Memorials in memory of Dorothy will be accepted for the Christ Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.

Dale Gene Johnson
1935-2014

Dale Gene Johnson, age 79, passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 with his four living children by his side, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Dale was born March 8, 1935 to Orville and Addie Johnson in Miller, and grew up in south Hand County. Dale was united in marriage to Darlene Meissner on June 7, 1954. The couple was blessed with seven children: Steve, Lyle, Rodney, Lee, Terry, Pam, and Jered. Dale and his family spent nearly all of their life together in Wessington Springs. While residing in Wessington Springs, Dale had his own business, Dale’s Auto Body & Repair for 51 years, now owned and operated by son, Lee. Dale was also once owner of Springs Inn Cafe, Traveler’s Motel, and Silver Spur Cafe.

Dale was a jack of all trades, as well as master of all trades. Dale had many talents and interests which he enjoyed pursuing enthusiastically with his family by his side. He loved the outdoors and working on automobiles. He cherished time with friends and family.

Survivors of Dale Johnson include 4 children and 11 grandchildren: Lee (Jackie) Lacey, Laura, and Andy; Terry (Kathleen) Jordan, Courtney, Lexi; Pam (Rob) Tyrell, Tate and TJay; Jered (Marcie) Addison; Nicole Larson (Rodney’s daughter). Other survivors include 6 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren, his sister Joan Krog, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a long list of friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Darlene, three sons: Steve, Lyle, and Rodney, brother, Kenneth, sisters, Evelyn Dearborn and Iona Johnson, and his parents, Orville and Addie Johnson.

Emerson Drive couldn’t have described our dad better: He was a father, a brother, a neighbor and a friend….he was a GOOD MAN!

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, followed by a reception.

Daryl “Sam” Davis
1939-2014

Daryl “Sam” Davis, 74, of Miller, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller. A celebration of life service will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday May 5th at the St. Lawrence Community Center. Sam’s cremated remains will be spread over the family farm north of St. Lawrence. Friends and family may sign Sam’s online register at www.remboldfuneralhome.com.

Daryl was born to Ervin and Melva (Carl) Davis on May 5, 1939 at the Miller Hospital. He attended the rural school at Hand City School. Daryl joined the Air Force in Texas. He married and later divorced Linda Nolan from Redfield. He worked for several construction companies and Wilbur’s Feed and Seed. He enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting, and farming.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey; brother, Jim (Sharon) Davis; sister Marilyn Williams; lifelong companion Leann Blasdell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marion Becker, and brother Wilbur Davis.

Rembold Funeral Home of St. Lawrence has been entrusted with Sam’s arrangements.

Robert Wieseler
1935-2014

Robert Wieseler, 78, of Orient, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, surrounded by the love of his wife, children and grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Polo. Burial followed in Mount Calvary cemetery, Polo. Robert Wieseler was born June 2, 1935 to Joe and Susan (Bartholomew) Wieseler at Miller, SD. He was the youngest of five children and grew up on the family farm 8 ½ miles southwest of Orient. He attended Park Country Rural School all eight grades with the exception of the third grade when he boarded and attended St. Liborius Catholic School. He went on to attend four years of high school at St. Liborius in Polo from which he graduated from in 1953.

Robert’s love for baseball carried him all the way through high school and even some years after marriage.

He then met his future bride at a roller-skating party in Orient in 1955. On October 15, 1957 he married Virginia Alice Baloun at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Seneca, SD.

They lived on the family homestead until 1972 when they bought the Dale Mord Farm. Robert and Virginia were blessed with four children: Vicki, Steven, Scot and Brenda.

On August 13, 2000 on a Sunday afternoon; Robert suffered a stroke, which left him confined to a wheelchair. But with the loving care of his wife and family, they were able to share their life with him for almost another 14 years.

Robert is survived by his loving family: his wife, Virginia of 57 ½ years; children, Vicki of Gillette, Wyo., Steven of Grandview, Mo., Scot and JoEllen (Giesen) of Orient and Brenda and Tom Schnieder of Belle Fourche; grandchildren: Dahlen Schnieder of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jordan Schnieder of Belle Fourche, Desirae Robin and Darin Wieseler of Orient; sister, Dorothy (Lawrence) Grunewaldt of Faulkton; and sister-in-law, Ann Wieseler of Sacramento, Calif.

He was greeted in heaven by his parents; maternal parents, Ray and Alice Baloun; two brothers: Dominic and Richard Wieseler; one sister, Catherine Nuhsbaumer; brother-in-laws: Carl Nuhsbaumer and Dick Myler; sister-in-law, Josephine Wieseler; two nieces: Cecelia Grunewaldt and Patrice Baloun; nephew, Shane Gutenkauf; and great niece, Briana Baloun.

Donald C. Holley

Donald C. Holley, 88, of Miller, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Pastor Brian Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillcrest cemetery, Miller. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Reck Funeral Home, Miller.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Don’s arrangements.
