Jon Alan Heisinger
Jul 20 1952 - Feb 02 2011

Jon Heisinger, 58, Rapid City, SD passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 after a short battle with cancer.

Jon was born July 20, 1952 to Al and Laverna (Jaton) Heisinger. He was raised on the family farm outside of Parkston, SD, the fourth of five children. He always felt that being on the farm was the best time of his life and the only place to raise a family. In 1970, he moved to Mitchell and it was there that he met the love of his life Patsy Steinfeld. They married in 1977, and moved to Rapid City in 1978. Jon worked at Top Appliance for a few years and then was part owner of Appliance Warehouse until 1993. Then he became part of the Westport Kitchen’s and Bath family where he spent the remainder of his working years.

In 1982, the apple of his eye, Emily came into their lives. He was her number one fan when it came to anything she was involved in. He spent many hours getting bleacher butt at gymnastics meets and her other sporting events. He also busted his buttons with pride watching her cheer on the sidelines for the Minnesota Gophers. His other “kids” were Jimmy and Molly – he helped father them weekends while their parents worked or any other time they needed him. In 2007, he finally got his son when Emily married Dustin Baertsch, and just 3 short months ago he received his ultimate dream of being a grandpa with the birth of Jonathon Scott. He was only a dad to Emily, but he was “Uncle Jonny” to countless nieces, nephews, and even friends. He never missed a chance to cheer them on in sporting events or activities or simply spend time with them.

Jon loved spending his free time enjoying the outdoors, especially hunting pheasant and deer. There were many trips to Perkins County with the Muth Boys and HP Kelly. He was also a lover of sports with football being his number one. His team was the Minnesota Vikings and he stuck by them through everything, even the 4 super-bowl losses. His other love was traveling – he most enjoyed the trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, South Carolina and lastly California where he got to spend time with his special Uncle Wayne and his wife Jane.

The ultimate loves of Jon’s life were his family and friends. He is most well known as “Uncle Jonny”, “Big Jon” and “Crush”. He could be counted on always if ever anyone were in need. The outpouring of support in these final months has been a tribute to the kind of man Jon was. He was truly special. He will be missed terribly, but we are thankful he is no longer suffering.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy; daughter, Emily and Dustin Baertsch; grandson, Jonathon Scott; brothers, Wayne and Cheryl Heisinger, Dan and Kim Heisinger; and sister, Gloria and Doug Johnson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Beth and Doug McLellan; brother-in-law, Tom and Dolores Steinfeld; mother-in-law, Anita Steinfeld; and countless Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and Friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas; father-in-law, James Steinfeld; and many aunts and uncles.

A celebration of Jon’s life will be Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm with a Christian Wake service to start at 4:00 pm. Visitation will also continue one hour before service time on Monday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City with Father Ed Vanorney officiating. Inurnment will take place on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 10:00 am at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Rapid City.
