Clinton R. Juhnke, 85
December 13, 1931 - May 5, 2017

Funeral service for Clinton R. Juhnke were held May 9 at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston. Arrangements were by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston.

Clinton R. Juhnke was born December 13, 1931, to Theodore and Seline (Tiede) Juhnke in Emery. He attended country school through the eighth grade and Bridgewater High School. He helped his parents on the farm until enlisting in the United States Army and serving in the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Nadine Bezug March 1, 1958, in Menno. The couple made their home on a farm near Parkston. He farmed until 1982, when he and Nadine moved into Parkston and purchased Nu-Way Cleaners, which they operated until their retirement. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston and sang in the church choir. He also was a member of the American Legion and Parkston Commercial Club.

He died Friday, May 5, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston at the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine, Parkston; five children: Todd (MayDene) Juhnke, Lincoln, Nebraska; Karlette Juhnke, Webster; Jim (Carol) Juhnke, Brookings; Leslie Pratt, Beale Air Force Base, California; and Scott (Mandi) Juhnke, Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren: Evan Juhnke, Paige Juhnke, Sami Juhnke, Nicole Juhnke, Laura Juhnke, Jordan Juhnke, J’Dyn Pratt, Neal Juhnke, Alexandra Juhnke, Easton Juhnke and Kendall Juhnke; and a sister, Marjene (Jim) Apland of Bel Air, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene; and a brother, Kenneth.

Adeline (Kotalik) Kubal, 83
February 21, 1934 - April 29, 2017

Adeline Kubal was born February 21, 1934, to Frank and Cristina (Cap) Kotalik in Tabor. On August 29, 1950, she was united in marriage to George A. Kubal at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Tabor. Together, they made their home on a farm west of Tabor. Farming kept the couple busy, yet George and Adeline shared a love of polka and attended many of the local dances.

In 1970, Adeline moved into Tyndall. Through the years, she worked at St. Michael’s Hospital in Tyndall in dietary and Chicago Rawhide in Springfield as a press operator.

Following her retirement in 1999, she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, baking in her kitchen and working on her lawn. She also loved to help others and attending family celebrations. Many will fondly recall her candy cabinet that she always ensured was stocked for her grandchildren and guests.

Adeline passed away Saturday, April 29, at the Good Samaritan Society-Tyndall, surrounded by her family, having attained the age of 83 years, two months and eight days.

She is survived and remembered by her children: Darlene (Harold) Deering of Brandon, Barb (Terry) Schuurmans, Avon, Jo (Jim) Boehmer, Parkston, and Betty (Jeff) Van Gerpen, Tyndall; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, son David in 1963, granddaughter Kristina in 1995, and grandson Jeremiah in 2006.

Jeannette (Henke) Brandt, 87
December 19, 1929 - April 30, 2017

Funeral services for Jeannette Brandt were held May 4, at Friedens Reformed Church, Tripp.

Burial was in the Friedens Reformed cemetery, with Goglin Funeral Home of Tripp in charge of arrangements.

Jeannette Brandt was born December 19, 1929, to Walter and Vera (Reimann) Henke on the family farm southeast of Parkston. In 1947, she graduated from Parkston High School.

On December 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Elmer Brandt. Together, they made their home on the Brandt family farm east of Tripp.

In 1981 at the age of 51, she earned her CNA degree at Mitchell Vo-Tech and began working at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital in Scotland. Following her retirement from the hospital, she continued to care for people by working part-time at the Menno-Olivet Care Center. Due to a broken hip from a fall, she was unable to continue working and officially retired in January 2016.

She died April 30 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 87 years, four months and 11 days.

She is survived by her children, Robyn (Todd) Magstadt, Brookings; son, Greg (Cheryle) Brandt, Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Brandi (Steve) Mandsager, Sioux Falls, and Shayne Magstadt and friend, Lucy Corro, Ft. Collins, Colorado; great-grandson, Elliot Mandsager; step-great-granddaughter, Grace Mandsager; sister-in-law, Irene Henke; nephews, Mark (Robin) Berg and Mike Berg; and niece, Roxanne (Rick) Tegethoff.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 1999; parents; brother, Randolph Henke; and nephew, Joel Berg.

Norma Schanzenbach, 78

Funeral services for Norma Schanzenbach, age 78, of Selby, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at the UCC Church in Selby. Burial will be in the Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A Family service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the church.

Mrs. Schanzenbach passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at the Bowdle Hospital.

Survivors include her son, Robert (Susan) Schanzenbach, of Fort Pierre.

Donald Wilcox

Funeral services for Donald L. Wilcox, 84, of Mobridge, will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Pastor Roger Noer will be officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery under the direction of Larson’s Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Kesling Funeral Home.

Donald passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Donald Lee Wilcox was born Oct. 20, 1926, to Sidney A. and Alma M. (Thode) Wilcox in Ipswich. He attended rural school in Rosette Township and graduated from Ipswich High School.

After high school, Donald went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He served in the U.S. Army for a short time and receiving his honorable discharge in 1949. He then returned to work for Northwestern Bell.

Don married Mildred Delores Flemmer on Oct. 17, 1950, in Selby. Mildred passed away in 1972. In 1976 he married Shirley Jean Hammond in Mobridge.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on various boards. He was also a member of the Mobridge Moose Club where he served on various boards and was governor in 1976.

Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, going out to eat and spending time with friends and family. His grandsons were the joy of his life and he especially liked to take them out fishing.

Don retired from US West (NWB) Communications in 1990 after spending 43 years working for them.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Wilcox of Mobridge; daughter, Jennifer Lee (Brad) Erickson of Brookings; and two grandsons, Ben Erickson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Blake Erickson of Brookings.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Harold, in infancy; and two sisters, Arlene and Marna.

Casketbearers are Benjamin Erickson, Blake Erickson, James Johnson, Collin Holzwarth, Jon Flemmer and Harold Labrensz.

Honorary bearers are all of Donald’s retired co-workers from US West.

Carolyn Paulson will be playing the organ.

Joyce McClellan will be singing “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Michael Dee Hubbard
Mar 24 1955 - Jul 21 2010

Michael Dee Hubbard 55 of Black Hawk passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at his home.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his wife Toni of Black Hawk, sisters Kathie Bond of Oklahoma, Annette Hooker of Oklahoma, and brother Robert Renning of Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Richard.

Black Hills Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Sturgis has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Ethellyne Maryanne (Schindelbower) Schnabel, 84
May 16, 1933 - June 12, 2017

Memorial services for Ethellyne Schnabel were held June 17 at the Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp. Inurnment followed at Grace Hill cemetery, Tripp. Arrangements were in the care of Goglin Funeral Home of Tripp.

Ethellyne Maryanne Schnabel was born May 16, 1933, to Moses and Albina (Petnik) Shindelbower in Tabor. She attended Southern State Teacher’s College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. For several years, she worked as an economic and business teacher at the Tripp School. In 1956, she was united in marriage to Curtis Allen Schnabel in Tripp. She owned and operated several businesses in Tripp, including the Toggery Store, Cookie’s Bar and Schnabel Construction alongside her husband.

She passed away Monday, June 12, at her home in Tripp at the age of 84 years and 27 days.

She is survived by her children: Mark Schnabel, Lincoln, Nebraska, Jerry (Janelle) Schnabel, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Thomas (Michelle) Schnabel, Littleton, Colorado, and Kelly Schnabel, Tripp; and grandchildren: Trevor, Courtney, Sara, Jared, Jordan and K-Coni.

She was preceded in death by her husband in September 2015 and her parents.

Freada E. Daly
Jan 05 1923 - Jun 01 2010

A memorial service will be held for Freada E Daly at Clear Lake Christian Church, 302 Hwy 18 W, beginning 10:30 Friday, morning June 4, lunch will be served.

Freada Elizabeth Daly died Tuesday morning June 1, 2010 at her residence in Sturgis, SD. She was born Freada Edwards on January 5, 1923 in Miles, Texas to Thomas and Beulah (Henson) Edwards. The fifth of six children, Freada was preceded in death by her three brothers, John, Claude, and Maurice, and her two sisters Fanny Lee and Hazel. She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Patrick and their eight children.

Freada married William H. Daly of Clear Lake, Iowa, on June 24, 1943 in the Catholic Church in Ballinger, TX. William was on contract to the Army-Air Corp to teach combat flying to WWII cadet trainees. Freada was a parachute packer when she met and married the dashing young adventurer and remained with him until his passing on July 31, 1975.

Freada and Bill had two children, Michael born June 17, 1944 and Patrick born June 15, 1947. Michael married Mary F. OKeefe, his family has supplied six grandchildren for Freadas enjoyment, Jon Pat, Christopher, Ruth, Rebecca and Briege. Of these grandchildren, Jon Pats marriage to Marie Sale has delivered four great grandchildren, Brendan, Patrick, Meghan and Peter to the fold. Christopher’s marriage to Lisa Guertin resulted in a son Michael, Rebecca’s marriage to Greg Pfunstein brought forth Marguerite. Patricks first marriage to Carolyn Flood brought three more Daly grandchildren to Freadas joyous circle, Amy, Katherine and Beth Ann. Amy, married to Steve Oliver, supplied two great- grandchildren to the expanding band, Christian and Rachel. Beth married Heath Whitney, have children Abram and Whitney completing the collection -- to date. After Carolyns death, Patrick remarried Barbara Collins of Riverton, Wyoming, bringing three step grandchildren, Faye, Natalie & Courtland into the family, together with Faye’s children Emmet, Trenton.

Many residents of Clear Lake know Freada well from her active participation in Clear Lakes Christian Church. As a one-time member of the choir and a full time member of Bible study and church supper cooking staff, Freada has warmed the hearts and stomachs of many worshipers. Her civic service has also included Meals on Wheels, work in the Community Kitchen, and volunteer work at Handicap Village. As a principal in the Mothers Study Club, begun in 1947, Freada formed friendships who continued to meet right up to 2007. Although most of her life was spent maintaining a home and caring for a country household and garden, Freada also worked in the school hot lunch program, the local A&P; grocery, and Grahams department store. Most of her out-of-home work was taken up during the periods when Bill was recovering from TB at the state sanitarium in Oak Dale, IA.

Freada enjoyed sewing, knitting, and gardening. A tireless and organized worker, she harvested, cooked, canned and froze enough to keep a wide circle of friends and family in touch with the wonderful flavor of simple foods, competently raised and simply cooked. She will be missed wherever she was known.

Eleanor Koski
February 25, 1928 - May 15, 2011

Eleanor (Syverson) Koski 83 of Rapid City, formerly of Lead, Sturgis, and Spearfish SD passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital after suffering a short illness.

Eleanor was born in Aneta, ND to Leonard and Emma (Olson) Syverson on February 25, 1928. Eleanor had 4 older brothers and 2 sisters.

Eleanor attended Aneta school systems and graduated in 1946. After a brief stay in California, she returned to North Dakota where she met and married Matt Koski on March 8, 1947 in Las Vegas, NV.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Dennis of Rapid City, daughter, Joni (Carl) Foos of Vale, SD, granddaughter Krista (Kevin) Beckwith of Rapid City, granddaughter Lindsey (Eddie) Pren of Queen Creek, AZ, great grandsons, Levi, Noah, Luke Beckwith, step grandchildren, Lisa White, Karen Wolf, Corey White, Roxanne Johnson, Randy Brown, Angie Mason, Alissa Foos, Amanda Fankhauser, numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Matt, parents, a daughter-in-law (Suzanne) and all her siblings.

Eleanor will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis.

A celebration of her life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, with Rev. Brent Woodard Officiating.

MOM YOU WILL BE SO DEARLY MISSED.
