Lloyd Jensen Sr.

Lantry - The funeral for Lloyd Jensen Sr., 50, of Lantry will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the H.V. Johnston Cultural Center in Eagle Butte. Deacon Ted Knife, Sister Addie Morris and Chug Garreau will officiate.

Burial will be in the Lantry Cemetery with Larson's Funeral Home of Mobridge in charge of arrangements.

An all-night wake service will be held at 7 MDT tonight at the cultural center.

He died of natural causes on Friday, July 26, 2002, at his home near Lantry.

Lloyd Dana Jensen was born June 25, 1952, to Christian and Belle (Painter) Jensen in Pierre. He attended school at Dupree, Rosene Country School south of Lantry, and he graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School in 1970. After graduating, he worked for the Donald Shad and Everett Dupris families. He also worked for the Cheyenne River Telephone Authority and the Old Home Bread Company.

He married Diana LaPlante on Aug. 4, 1973. In 1994 he became a brand inspector for the South Dakota Stock Growers Association and held that position until in 2001. He was also a volunteer weather spotter for KGFX Radio of Pierre. His lifetime occupation was farming and ranching.

He enjoyed hunting, gun collecting, fishing, boating and trapping. He enjoyed camping trips and was a supporter of the annual Big Foot Ride.

Survivors include his wife of Lantry; two sons, Lloyd (Danny) Jensen Jr. of Lantry and Tate Jensen of Eagle Butte; two daughters, Kristi Jensen of Lantry and Kathi Jensen of Eagle Butte; four brothers, Derl Jensen and Lauren Jensen, both of Lantry, Roger Jensen of Sturgis and Marvin Jensen of Faith; two sisters, Janice Selby of Faith and Janell Follett of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Casketbearers will be Bohdi Jak LaPlante, Mike Wenande, LeRoy Red Horse Jr., Jay Selby, Mike Barbosa, Gary Jensen, Fred Dupris, Jason Selby and Buzz Jensen.

John M. Johnson

Escondido, Calif. - John M. Johnson, 86, of Escondido, Calif., formerly of the Aberdeen area died Monday, July 22, 2002.

Burial of cremains will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell with Telophase Cremation Society of San Marcos, Calif., in charge of arrange- ments.

John M. Johnson was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Elliott, N.D. He graduated from Central High School and attended Aberdeen Business College and Wahpeton School of Science in North Dakota. He was in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II and served in England, France and Germany. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. He retired in 1975.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and a member of the National Letter Carriers Association.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Audra of Escondido; one son, David Mark (Kayda) Johnson of Carlsbad, Calif.; and one brother, Richard Johnson of Michigan City, Ind.

Dallas Rossow

Groton - Dallas Rossow, 68, of Groton died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Groton.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Groton. The Rev. Stephen D. Swenson will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen with Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Russell A. Roberts

Raymond - Russell A. Roberts, 81, of Raymond, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Clark.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Raymond. The Rev. Donna Nickels will officiate.

Burial will be in Prairie Valley Cemetery at Raymond. Furness Funeral Home of Clark is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today with Masonic services at 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Clark. There will also be visitation from 9:30 until the time of service Wednesday at the church in Raymond.

Russell A. Roberts was born March 31, 1921, to Ethan and Pearl (Stuck) Roberts in Grundy Center, Iowa. Following the death of his mother when he was 4 years old, the family continued to live in Iowa until he moved to the Raymond area as a young school-age child. He graduated from Raymond High School in 1940. He entered the Army Air Corps in the early 1940s and served until March 1944. He served as an air aviation cadet.

He married Margaret Lucke on July 11, 1943, in Montgomery, Ala. Following his discharge, they moved back to Raymond where he farmed.

He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church at Raymond, having served on various church boards. He was also involved in the Raymond Elevator Board, Raymond School Board, FHA Board and Prairie Valley Cemetery Board. He was past commander of Baker Post No. 209 of the American Legion at Raymond for 58 years, and past master and treasurer of the Mosaic Lodge AF & AM Lodge 175 for 52 years.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing and playing cards. He loved to spend hours in his shop, working on projects.

Survived include his wife; one daughter, Jeanne (Butch) Claussen of Raymond; and one son, Davin Roberts of Raymond; one sister Gleo Coats of Redfield; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one son and two brothers.

Casketbearers will be David Putman, David Helkenn, Jim Kopriva, Robert Wegman, Rick Sundvold and Don Bowers.

Galen E. Hoffman

Chandler, Ariz. - Galen E. Hoffman, 61, of Chandler and formerly of Ipswich, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at the Neely-Rae Hospice House in Mesa, Ariz.

His remains are being donated for biomedical science studies. Graveside services at the Ipswich City Cemetery are pending.

Galen E. Hoffman was born June 11, 1941, to Leona (Heinz) and Milton Hoffman in Ipswich. Following the death of his mother when he was 9 months old and while his father served in the U.S. Navy, he lived with his maternal grandparents, William and Emma Heinz in Ipswich. When he was 5 he moved to Bowdle to live with his father and his stepmother, Irene (Oster) Hoffman. He attended Bowdle Public School and graduated in 1961. After completing school, he worked at the Lux Candle Factory in Ipswich.

He married Jan Pfaff on Oct. 10, 1963, in Ipswich. He continued to work at the candle factory and also farmed north of Ipswich at the OK Ranch. They moved to Grand Island, Neb., where he owned and operated a trucking and custom harvesting business. He later moved his business to Chandler and continued to operate from there and also from Bowdle. His death was precipitated by a massive stroke he suffered on July 6.

Survivors include a special friend, Cathy Jones of Chandler; three daughters, Tammy Heston and Michelle Garcia-Ventura, both of Grand Island, and Debra Hoffman of Omaha, Neb.; his stepmother, Irene Hoffman of Grand Island; and three brothers, Maurice Hoffman, Joel Hoffman and Perry Hoffman, all of Bowdle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

August Hoffman

Eureka - The funeral for August Hoffman, 91, of Eureka will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Dean Nelson will officiate.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Aberdeen. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

He died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.

August Hoffman was born April 29, 1911, to Christoph and Christina (Schumacher) Hoffman at Long Lake. He worked on the family farm.

He married Alvina Schmitt on Sept. 1, 1940, at rural Long Lake. A year later they purchased a farm near Forbes, N.D., where they raised small grains and livestock. She died in 1971. He continued farming until 1973, when he moved to Ellendale and worked for the Dickey County Highway Department. In 1974 he moved to Leola, where he drove school bus and did carpentry work.

He married Martha Dammel-Retzer on July 19, 1975, in Eureka. They built a home in Eureka, where he worked for the city and also did carpentry work. He entered Avera Eureka Healthcare Center on July 5.

He enjoyed listening to old-time music, dancing and dining out.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka and the Senior Center. He was a past church usher and rural school board member of Albertha No. 1 in Dickey County, near Forbes. He was honored as the 1997 Schmeckfest King.

Survivors include his wife of Eureka; one son, Lawrence (Joan) Hoffman of Ellendale, N.D.; one daughter, LaVonne Sayler of Bennett, Colo.; one stepson, Lester Retzer of Bloomington, Minn.; four sisters, Lydia Fischer of Ipswich, Amelia Fauth and Leah Gehring, both of Leola, and Rose Gienger of Aberdeen; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grand- children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, six brothers and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Marvin Hoffman, Donald Hoffman and Myron Fauth, all of Leola; Deuwayne Hoffman of Aberdeen; Gary Hoffman of Long Lake; and Arlen Gehring of Ashley, N.D.

Alice V. Palmquist

Aberdeen - The funeral for Alice V. Palmquist, 89, of Aberdeen and formerly of Langford, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Highlanda Lutheran Church near Langford. The Rev. Jeff Redlin will officiate.

Her burial will be in the church cemetery with Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., Aberdeen, in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

She died of natural causes Monday, July 29, 2002, at her home in Aberdeen.

Alice V. Palmquist was born February 19, 1913, to Jacob and Ida (Anderson) Palmquist in Langford. She grew up and attended school in Langford. Upon graduation she attended Northern Normal, earning a bachelor of science degree in 1945 and a master of science degree in 1963. She taught in rural schools in Marshall and Day counties, in grade schools at Stratford, Doland and Webster, and in high schools at Webster, Langford and Aberdeen. She was assistant frofessor of English at Northern State College in 1963 until she retired in 1976 with professor emeritus status.

She was a member of the the Highlanda Lutheran Church her entire life, a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Shakespeare Club in Aberdeen. After retirement, she was active in the South Dakota Retired Teacher's Association.

She enjoyed extensive traveling.

Survivors include one brother, Victor A. Palmquist of Aberdeen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Gene Burrish, Sam Burrish, Tom Burrish, Richard Palmquist, David Palmquist and Carl Schroeder.

Memorials may be directed to the Alice V. Palmquist Scholarship Fund at Northern State University, 1200 S. Jay St., Aberdeen, SD 57401, or to the Highlanda Lutheran Church, 42498 122 St., Langford, SD 57454.

Patricia Lou Bloom

Fort Yates, N.D. - Patricia Lou Bloom, 67, of Fort Yates died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Mandan, N.D., while recovering from heart surgery.

Her funeral will be at a later date.

Burial will be at a later date in the McLaughlin City Cemetery. Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.

A rosary service will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patricia Lou Moore was born Aug. 2, 1934, to Edward and Mildred (O'Connor) Moore in McLaughlin. She lived in Fort Yates.

She married Galen Bloom on June 2, 1956. She was trained as a registered nurse/family nurse practitioner/physician's assistant and worked at Standing Rock Indian Health Services Hospital and Clinic for 33 years until her retirement.

She is survived by her husband of Fort Yates; four daughters, Donna (Blaine) Hipfner, Debbie Bloom and Leta Bloom, all of Bismarck, N.D., and Cindy (Dale) Kraft of Devils Lake, N.D.; one son, Galen Bloom Jr. of Fort Yates; two sisters, Tara Straight of Seattle, and Bonnie Stadwick of Fort Yates; one brother, Dennis Moore of Greeley, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Doretta Minna Noethlich

Doland - The funeral for Doretta Minna Noethlich, 37, of Doland will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Doland. The Rev. Jeff Heron and the Rev. Gordon Wieba will officiate.

Burial will be in Collins Cemetery in Willow Lake with Furness Funeral Home of Clark in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church in Doland.

She died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at her home.

Doretta Minna Woodward was born Oct. 25, 1964, to Francis and Joyce (Base) Woodward in Lawton, Okla. She attended school in Apache, Okla. Following her graduation in 1982 she attended the University of Arts and Sciences at Chickasha, Okla.

She married Daniel Noethlich on May 18, 1984, in Burkburnette, Texas. His military service took them to various places, including Germany, Oklahoma and Texas. While living in Oklahoma, she managed the family business for two years prior to moving to Doland in 1998.

While her husband served in the military, she was active in many volunteer activities. In 1993 she was received the Military Spouse of the Year award from Marilyn Quayle. She was also the volunteer coordinator for the military base at Fort Hood, Texas, and did volunteer work for the Criminal Investigative Division and helped with income tax assistance. She received an award for her volunteer work by Gen. Tommy Luck.

After moving to Doland she coached Little League and Peewee summer baseball program, capturing second in the league two years in a row. She worked for the Doland School District and in November 2000, began work at Bank First in Huron. In October of 2001 she was involved in an accident which left her paralyzed.

She enjoyed cats and decorating her house.

She is survived by her husband of Doland; three sons, Donald Noethlich, Billy Noethlich and Jon Noethlich, all at home in Doland; her parents of Apache; two sisters, Babs Henderson of Apache and Joanne King of Weatherford, Okla., and her grandmother, Dorothy Woodward of Cyril, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.

Casketbearers will be Todd Hofer, Ron Starr, Dwight Noethlich, Perry Hofer, Craig Schroeder and Reid Mayer.
