Robert 'Bob' Griffith
Pierre - Robert "Bob" Griffith, 55, of Pierre died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Pierre. The Rev. Dale Kutil will officiate.
Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre is in charge of arrangements.
He was cremated.
Robert Griffith was born May 25, 1947, to Francis and Mildred (Kaiser) Griffith in Hoven. He grew up in Potter County and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1965. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City and received a civil engineering degree in 1969. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army through the ROTC program. He moved to Pierre and was an engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
He was a member of the of the South Dakota School of Mines Alumni Association, Toastmasters and Pierre Players.
He enjoyed the outdoors, mountain biking on LaFramboise Island in Pierre and the Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills, cross-country skiing, jogging, animal watching, gardening and reading. He loved to fly and was a flight instructor and, after joining Pierre Players, never missed a play.
He is survived by one brother, John Griffith of Mobridge; and two sisters, Mary Bohnenkamp of Gettysburg and Betty Lindbloom of Pierre.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Frances I. Zantow
Leola - Frances I. Zantow, 75, of Leola died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leola. The Rev. Raymond Pomplun will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave., N.W., of Aberdeen, in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church in Leola.
Frances I. Heupel was born July 10, 1927, to Jacob and Rosina (Pfeiffer) Heupel in Eureka. She attended Wetonka Grade School and graduated from Leola High School in 1945.
She married Clarence E. Zantow on June 23, 1946, in Leola. They farmed in the Leola area for many years. He died in 1997 and she moved into Leola at that time. She had been a resident of the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen for the past year.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the ladies aid, where she held various offices and taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed cooking and working in her flower garden.
She is survived by one daughter, Pam (Pat) Schaffner of Leola; two sons, Stanley (Marie) Zantow of Clark and Randy (Nancy) Zantow of Leola; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and four brothers.
Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Russell Schaffner, Brent Zantow, Trevor Zantow, Rick Zantow, Vincent Yamaura and Trent Weig.
Frederick Earl Schreier
Pierre - The funeral for Frederick Earl Schreier, 57, of Pierre and formerly of Eagle Butte, will be at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at the United Church of Chirst in Eagle Butte. The Rev. Allen Mentor will officiate.
Burial will be in the United Eagle Butte Cemetery with Luce Funeral Home of Eagle Butte in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
He died Monday, July 29, 2002, of a heart attack on the the family farm near Eagle Butte.
Frederick Earl Schreier was born Feb. 6, 1945, to Arthur F. and Mary E. (Kumley) Schreier. He grew up on the family farms near Eagle Butte. He attended elementary school in Eagle Butte and graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School in 1963. While in high school, he was a member of the band and chorus, was in the senior class play, and was active in 4-H. He also lettered in track and was the first student manager of the light and sound systems in the new auditorium. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was an electronics technician on the mine sweeper USS Persistent with active duty during the Vietnam War.
He married Ruthmary Ashby on Sept. 26, 1968.
He married Lotty Cook on May 3, 1986. He worked for IBM and Control Data. He attended State Technology School in Watertown for advanced electronics training. He also completed a TV repair class and operated a TV repair business on the family farm. He was a professional truck driver for a moving company and for Dick Bigler.
He is survived by his wife of Pierre; his parents of Eagle Butte; three daughters, Roxanne (Len) Bauman of Logan, Utah, Rebecca (Mike) Lorenc of Magna, Utah, and Rachel Schreier of Salt Lake City; one son, John Daniel (Cathy) Schreier of Seaside, Calif.; two step-sons, Jason Wittaker and William Wittaker, both of New York; two sisters, Florence Hill of Ogden, Utah, and Bettie Robinson of Salt Lake City; one brother, John Schreier of Mobridge; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister in infancy and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Narcisse Widow
Red Scaffold - The funeral for Narcisse Widow, 45, will be at 4 p.m. today at the Ed and Delma Widow residence in Red Scaffold.
Burial will be in St. Mark's Cemetery in Red Scaffold with Luce Funeral Home in Eagle Butte in charge of arrangements.
He died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Indian Health Hospital in Eagle Butte.
Narcisse Edward Widow was born Feb. 28, 1957, to Edward and Delma (Counting) Widow in Old Cheyenne Agency. He attended grade school at the Red Scaffold Day School. He graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte School in 1975. While in high school, he was active in basketball, softball, track and rodeo. During his senior year, he was part of the basketball team that made it to the State "B" Basketball Tournament, where they took fifth place.
He married Marlis Afraid of Hawk in 1976. He was a rodeo team roper with his father. He traveled all over the country in independent basketball. In 1980-81 he attended Mitchell Vo-Tech and received a plumber's certificate. He attended Huron College in 1982.
He was a member of the LDS (Mormon) Church in Eagle Butte.
He is survived by his parents of Ash Creek; his children, Roxee, Paul, Jauron, RaDawn, Duriel, Heidi, Chastyn, Kelly, Derek, and Dee Ann; three brothers, Norris Widow of Red Scaffold, Edwin Widow of Ash Creek, and Edmund Widow of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three sisters, Narcelle of Ash Creek, Norma of Eagle Butte and Nadine of Takini; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one grandchild, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Mae Lorius
Lemmon - Mae Lorius, 96, of Lemmon died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lemmon.
Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Ada Mae Cooper was born Oct. 12, 1905, to Charles H. and Ada A. (Severson) Cooper in Sargent County, N.D. She attended school and grew up on a farm near Brampton, N.D. She then attended college for two years in Ellendale, N.D. She came to the Lemmon area in 1928 to teach at the Orange School in Adams County, N.D.
She married Earl Lorius on Oct. 17, 1930, in Britton. They made their home on their farm in Orange Township. He died in 1982. She continued to live on the farm until moving to the Serenity Inn in Lemmon in 1999. Last year she began living with a granddaughter near Lemmon. She had resided at the nursing home for the past two weeks.
She was a member of Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church and its ladies circles. She was also a longtime member of the Orange Homemakers Club. She served on the Orange Township Board as clerk for many years.
She enjoyed growing a large garden and raising chickens.
Survivors include one son, Neale (Dorothy) Lorius of Lemmon; one daughter, Norma (Monte) LaBarge of Lemmon; five sisters, Faye Cooper, Ruth Cooper, Agnes Cooper and Inez Sheppard, all of Fargo, N.D., and Maude Renn of Port Clinton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son and three brothers.

Charles 'Chuck' Morrissey
Aberdeen - Charles "Chuck" Morrissey, 53, of Aberdeen died of natural causes on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Arrangements are pending with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W.
Tilla Herman
Veblen - Tilla Herman, 92, of Veblen died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen. The Rev. Annie Tieszen will officiate.
Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Havana, N.D. Frank Family Funeral Home of Lidgerwood, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church in Veblen.
Tilla Mickelson was born July 12, 1910, to Aslak "Alick" and Ingaborg (Olson) Mickelson in Kidder. She grew up on the farm and attended country school and Havana High School.
She married Arthur Herman on Sept. 9, 1931, in Milnor, N.D. After their marriage they farmed in Tewaukon Township in Sargent County. They retired in 1964, continuing to live on the farm.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen.
Survivors include five sons, Malloy (Mary Ann) Herman, Bruce Herman and John Herman, all of Veblen, Wallace (Helen) Herman of Havana and Arvin (Caroline) Herman of Maplewood, Minn.; three daughters, Donna Herman of Fargo, N.D., Marlene (Wallace) Kleven of Veblen and Carol (Kyle) Shephard of Cavalier, N.D.; one brother, Woodrow Mickelson of Salem, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter and two infant grandsons.
Casketbearers will be Mark Herman, Wayne Herman, Steven Herman, Benjamin Herman, Jason Shephard and Richard Herman.
Albert Raymond Baumgartner
Hague, N.D. - Albert Raymond Baumgartner, 80, of Hague died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague. The Rev. Leonard Eckroth will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Strasburg, N.D., Veterans of Foreign Wars. Myers Funeral Home of Linton, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Linton.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church in Hague.
Albert Raymond Baumgartner was born June 10, 1922, to John and Marie (Geil-fus) Baumgartner in Strasburg. He attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war for nine months. He returned to Strasburg after his honorable discharge in 1946.
He married Christine Deringer on Jan. 12, 1948, in Krassna, N.D. They farmed in the Strasburg-Hague area until they moved to Bismarck in 1966, where he worked as a welder for Melroe until retiring in 1976. They moved back to Hague in 1982. They spent the last 12 years wintering in Tucson, Ariz.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Hague Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed wintering in Tucson, fishing for northern pike and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of Hague; five sons, Leo (Wilma) Baumgartner of Mercer, N.D., Tom Baumgartner of Eagle, Colo., Jerry (Pat) Baumgartner of Eden Prairie, Minn., Ron (Janice) Baumgartner of Aurora, Colo., and Paul Baumgartner of Commerce City, Colo.; two daughters, Jane (Wally) Borr and Shirley (Joe) Glass, both of Bismarck; three brothers, Pius Baumgartner of Strasburg, Jake Baumgartner of Bismarck and Pete Baumgartner of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, one brother and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Chris Glass, Robert Borr, Mike Baumgartner, Cory Baumgartner, Terry Baumgartner and Jason Baumgartner.
Mary Rohrich
Strasburg, N.D. - Mary Rohrich, 98, of Strasburg and formerly of Linton, N.D., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Strasburg Care Center.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. The Rev. Bruce Krebs will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Myers Funeral Home in Linton in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Mary Senger was born Jan. 10, 1904, to Anton A. and Marion (Eisemzimmer) Senger east of Linton. Her family was one of the first five Germans from Russia families to homestead in Emmons County. She attended rural school.
She married Joseph K. Rohrich on Oct. 6, 1925. They made their home on a farm east of Strasburg. In 1941, they moved to a farm east of Linton. They retired and moved into Linton in 1967. He died in 1988. She entered the Strasburg Care Center Feb. 27, 1991.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton and Christian Mothers.
She enjoyed traveling, crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include six sons, F.C. "Clem" (Shirley) Rohrich of Linton, Claude (Katherine) Rohrich of Zeeland, N.D., Irvin (Delores) Rohrich of Seattle, Roger (Sandy) Rohrich of Woodenville, Wash., Clarence Rohrich of Ashfork, Ariz., and Wilbert (Sandi) Rohrich of Everett, Wash.; three daughters, Irene Penoske of Milwaukee, Lorraine Chies of Minneapolis and Yolanda (Connie) Van Alstine of Waterford, Wis.; one sister, Julia Richter of Lodi, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.
Casketbearers will be Ray Senger, Alvin Kelsch, Tony Kelsch, Al Dosch, Leo Roehrich and Willie Ibach.
