Nelson David ‘Dave' Trimble

SIOUX FALLS — Nelson David "Dave" Trimble, 71, Sioux Falls and formerly of Wanblee and Pine Ridge, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Mona Trimble, Sioux Falls; three sons, Tom Trimble, Sioux Falls, James Trimble, Columbia, Mo., and Tim Trimble; one daughter, Maria Wasko, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; one brother, Charles Trimble; and three sisters, Grace Montgomery, Shirley Plume and Bessie Cornelius.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, with the family present from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.

Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Elaine Wiedenman

HURON — Elaine Martin Wiedenman, 87, Huron, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.

Survivors include eight sons, Douglas Wiedenman, Burnsville, Minn., Greg Wiedenman, Woodbury, Minn., Jack Wiedenman, Nipomo, Calif., Richard Wiedenman, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Rod Wiedenman, Phil Wiedenman and Jim Wiedenman, all of Huron, and Larry Wiedenman, Rapid City; one daughter, Mary Roban, Mendota, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Bergstrom, Huron, and Sister Myron Martin, Aberdeen.

Her husband, Boyd Wiedenman, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, Dec. 26, with a 7 p.m. scripture service and Catholic Daughters rosary, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, and before services Thursday, Dec. 27, at Church of the Resurrection in Huron.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Joe Holzhauser officiating.

Burial will be at St. Martin's cemetery in Huron.

Barry T. Hess

BELLE FOURCHE — Barry T. Hess, 39, Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Rapid City.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristina Hess and Tara Hess, both of Belle Fourche; one grandson; his parents, Pete and Bernice Hess, Belle Fourche; one sister, Lori McNeese, Belle Fourche; and one brother, Perry Hess, Trophy Club, Texas.

Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Mary Bourk

BLUNT - Mary Bourk, 91, Blunt, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Survivors include four sons, Lee Bourk, Don Bourk and Kenny "Nick" Bourk, all of Blunt, and John "Hime" Bourk, Sturgis; four daughters, Joan Husman, Mitchell, Rose Klunt, Blunt and Oregon, Daisy Seachris, Blunt, and Esther Singleton, Rapid City; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, John Bourk, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at United Methodist Church in Blunt.

Burial will be at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Blunt.

Urban George Mushitz

STURGIS - Urban George Mushitz, 85, Sturgis, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sturgis.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Mushitz, Sturgis; three sons, Jerry Mushitz, Okinawa, Japan, Arthur Mushitz, Lompoc, Calif., and James Mushitz, Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Cleta Marie Morrow, Rawlins, Wyo., and Marcia Wald, Rapid City; two brothers, Vic Mushitz, Elko, Minn., and Leo Mushitz, Geddes; two sisters, Georganne Jaeger, Rapid City, and Verna Lenzer, Portland, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Navy from January of 1942 to 1945.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday, Dec. 14, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Moe Greiner officiating.

Burial, with military honors by Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard, will be at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to Ronald McDonald House.

Louise Rand

SPEARFISH - Louise Rand, 87, Spearfish, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Rand, Spearfish, and Gary Rand, Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Marva Toohey, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; one brother, Knox Matter, Phoenix; and one sister, Babe Tinant, Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.

Yvonne Renee 'Renee' Johnson

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. - Yvonne Renee "Renee" Johnson, 72, Castle Rock and formerly of Sedalia, Colo., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Castle Rock Care Center.

Survivors include four daughters, Susan Gibbons, Denver, Terry Rush, Littleton, Laurie Andersen, Larkspur, and Paula Colyer, Sedalia; one brother, Jerry Drager, Rapid City; and eight grandchildren.

Her husband, Marvin Earl Johnson, preceded her in death.

Family graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Cedar Hill cemetery in Castle Rock, with the Rev. L.E. Ziegler officiating.

Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Funeral Home of Castle Rock is in charge of arrangements.

Duane ‘Toby' Tobiason

HILL CITY — Duane "Toby" Tobiason, 69, Hill City, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at his home.

One of Toby's lifelong loves and profession has been photography. He started his career in California after being hired personally by Walt Disney. He did promotional shots for movies for Disney and Warner Brothers Studios. Two of the biggest movies he worked on were Hitchcock's "The Birds" and John Wayne's "War Wagon." He also worked with the TV series "The Virginian." Toby married Frankie Bartlett on May 25, 1973, in Oklahoma City.

Toby and his wife, Frankie, started their own photography studio specializing in portraits and wedding photography. He eventually owned and operated four full-service wedding shops, photography laboratory, tuxedo warehouse, dry cleaners and photography studio. Another of his loves was baseball. Early in life he was recruited by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent time in training but later decided against being a professional player. He joined the Naval Reserve, serving for four years. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. He retired to the Black Hills in 1984 but didn't stay inactive very long. He once again became involved in photography through his "Old Time Photo Shop." In addition, he pursued his interests in community service. He was a school-bus driver and became the Hill City Youth Center director and volunteered as a Little League coach. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, as city councilman in 1987-88, and then as mayor from 1988-1990. As mayor, he was instrumental in developing the "Adopt-A-Highway" program in South Dakota. In 1999, he started the Heart of the Hills tours. He was a member of the Lions Club, Optimists Club and the Sons of Norway. Toby's main love was his family. He was proud of all his sons and daughters and left a legacy of love for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Frances of Hill City; three sons, Rick Tobiason and wife Janet of Mustang, Okla., Mike Tobiason and wife Diane of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Tom Tobiason of Central Point, Ore.; five daughters, Su McCollister of Fullerton, Calif., Donna Sowers of Del City, Okla., Kimberly Robbins of Trinity, Ala., Debra Seifert and husband Robert of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Johni Wiloth and late husband Paul of Rapid City; 24 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one son, Nicholas Tobiason, and his parents, Arthur and Marjorie Tobiason.

It was Toby's wishes that no funeral service or memorial service be held. Family services will be this afternoon at their home, with Chaplain S.A. "Stub" Belcher officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in his name to the Cancer Society, heart-disease research or the Hill City Youth Center.

Behrens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jerome ‘Spud' Serocki

BROWNS VALLEY, Minn. — Jerome "Spud" Serocki, 57, Browns Valley, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; four children, Greg Serocki, Springfield, Mo., Pam Werdel, Piedmont, S.D., Staci Michels, Fairmont, N.D., and Jeff Serocki, Avondale, Ariz.; three brothers, Bob, Fergus Falls, Joe, Browns Valley, and Paul Jr., Wilmot, S.D.; four sisters, Fran Renelt, Burnsville, Kathy Yost, Browns Valley, Pat Westbrock, Inver Grove Heights, and Mary Ann Beyl, Rosholt, S.D.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and for one hour before services, which will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, all at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, with the Rev. Arlie Sowada officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic cemetery in Browns Valley.

Johnson's Mortuary in Rosholt is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Cole

HILL CITY — Charles L. Cole, 84, Hill City, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include one son, Doyle Cole, Rapid City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services will be Monday, Nov. 5, at Mount Calvary cemetery in Rapid City, with the Rev. Valentine Young officiating.

Behrens Funeral Home in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

George E. Bickel

RAPID CITY — George E. Bickel, 96, Rapid City, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Survivors include two daughters, Fae Hanks, Rapid City, and Sharon Larkin, Sun City West, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Rylee Anne Marie Wiese

RAPID CITY — Rylee Anne Marie Wiese, 1 month, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Survivors include her parents, Rick and Tina Wiese, Rapid City; two sisters, Tara Lockner and Tana Lockner, both of Rapid City; paternal grandparents, Dale and Carol Wiese, Worthington, Minn.; and maternal grandparents, Bill and Florence Collins, Rapid City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jon Mapa officiating.

Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Lee Brown

MISSOULA, Mont. - Phyllis Lee Brown, 55, Missoula, Montana, resident and former Rapid City resident, died at the University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle, Wash., of complications following lung surgery Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001.

She was born Sept. 8, 1946, at Kadoka, S.D., the daughter of William B. and Marjorie (Martin) Letellier. She grew up at Norris and attended schools at Norris and at the Kaufman School, graduating from Concordia High School at Seward, Nebraska. Following high school graduation she attended Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls and graduated from the University of S.D. with a BS degree in nursing in 1969. She married Alan Brown on Feb. 14, 1966, at Pipestone, Minn. The family moved to Rapid City in 1969. She was employed at Bennett-Clarkson Hospital and Rapid City Regional Hospital for a period of 20 years. In 1996 Phyllis Lee moved to Missoula, Montana, and was married to Verlin Griswold on Dec. 27, 1997, at Missoula, and has been a resident since that time.

Survivors include her husband, Verlin Griswold, Missoula, Montana; her parents, William B. and Marjorie Letellier, Norris, S.D.; two sons, Cason Brown and his wife Cindy Stolte Brown, Rapid City, and Cody Brown IS 1(AW) and his wife Sheri, Moles- worth, England; a stepson, Bradley Griswold and his wife Kathy, Stevensville, Montana; and a grandson, Nathaniel Alexander Brown, Molesworth, England. She was preceded in death by a son, Chad.

Visitation will be at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Peace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert G. Bailey officiating. Interment will be at the Mountain View cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the American Lung Association.

Mary Ann Atkinson Baker

RAPID CITY - Mary Ann Atkinson Baker, 61, Rapid City, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at home.

Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Hawn, Black Hawk, Teresa Hammond, Arvada, Colo., Cathy Craig, Maysville, Ky., and Michelle Bare, Los Angeles; one son, Michael Baker, Black Hawk; three brothers, Gene Atkinson and Jim Atkinson, both of Rapid City, and Jerry Atkinson, Nemo; two sisters, Peg Turner, Ninilchik, Alaska, and Pat Aker, LaSalle, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City, with Chaplain Ned Wick officiating.

Behrens Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
