Viola L. Clodt

WESSINGTON SPRINGS - Viola L. Clodt, 83, Wessington Springs and formerly of Farmingdale, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Arthur Forst.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs, and for one hour before services Friday, Jan. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Daryl Tompkins officiating.

Burial will be at Charity cemetery in rural Wessington Springs.

Edward W. Anderson

OELRICHS - Edward W. Anderson, 76, Oelrichs, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Anderson, Oelrichs.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

Maurice John Ashley

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Maurice John Ashley, 87, Gillette, Wyo., and formerly of Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 14, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Jeff Dilks officiating. Following a reception at the church, the interment will be at the Bear Butte cemetery in Sturgis.

Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and Alzheimer's research.

Maurice was born December 11, 1914, at Kimball, S.D., to John and Abbie (Corey) Ashley. He moved with his family to western South Dakota and attended school at Vale, S.D.

Maurice worked in the Redwoods of California as a young man and farmed in the Vale and Fruitdale areas until 1958, when he moved to Belle Fourche to work at the Bentonite mines.

He married Dorathy Alexander on March 2, 1941, at the Alexander family home east of Vale.

Maurice retired from Federal Bentonite at Colony, Wyo., then worked for Henderson Construction in Belle Fourche until he retired at the age of 72.

Maurice enjoyed his family. He liked spectator sports, especially school basketball, football and baseball. He liked to fish with his grandchildren and friends and enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful roses.

Maurice and Dorathy traveled after retirement and visited most of the United States and Canada. Maurice was active in the communities where he lived. He was a former school board member of Empire School District, member of the Vale Volunteer Fire Department, Fruitdale Community Club, Lions Club of Belle Fourche, and a member of Belle Fourche First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Dorathy Ashley, Gillette, Wyo.; one daughter, Glenda Bowens and her husband, Larry, Gillette; two grandchildren, Tanya Wilcox and her husband, Justin, Rapid City, and Sean Hanify, Denver, Colo.; also one great-granddaughter, Ashli Alexandra Wilcox. Survivors also include one brother, Robert Ashley and his wife, Millie, Rapid City; three sisters, Geraldine Johnson, Spearfish, Dorothy Merrill, Spearfish, and Mildred Scoggins, California; and many nieces and nephews.

LaVera Jones

BELLE FOURCHE - LaVera Jones, 89, Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002.

Survivors include seven children, Wayne Jones, JoAnn Jones and Loris Forbes, all of Helena, Mont., Donna Corbridge and Peg Willey, both of Aberdeen, Idaho, Patricia Coburn, Tularosa, N.M., and Sharon Kudlock, Spearfish.

Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Goldie B. Jurisch

NEW UNDERWOOD - Goldie B. Jurisch, 94, New Underwood, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at New Underwood Nursing Home.

Survivors include two sons, Lewis Jurisch, Springfield, Mo., and Marlow Jurisch, Rapid City; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charlie Hunt officiating.

Burial will be at Scenic cemetery in Scenic.

Agnes Black Elk

MANDERSON - Agnes Black Elk, 74, Manderson, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Manderson.

Survivors include two daughters, Emmaline Black Elk and Charlotte Black Elk, both of Manderson; one brother, Raymond Hollow Horn, Rapid City; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at St. Agnes Catholic Hall in Manderson, with the Rev. Jim Ryan officiating.

Burial will be at St. Agnes Catholic cemetery in Manderson.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Aaron John Pauley

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. - Aaron John Pauley, 27, Lake Havasu City and formerly of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Spearfish, S.D., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Phoenix as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Pamela Pauley, Lake Havasu City; one brother, Adam Pauley, Lake Havasu City; and two sisters, Teresa Million Pauley, Moscow, Idaho, and Teka Pauley Mutchler, El Paso, Texas.

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home in Lake Havasu City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at First Wesleyan Church in Sturgis, S.D., with the Rev. Elmore Blain officiating.

Burial will be at Bear Butte cemetery in Sturgis.

Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis is in charge of local arrangements.

A memorial has been established at Mohave State Bank in Lake Havasu City.

Clarence Ralph Kroth

HAVENSVILLE, Kan. — Clarence Ralph Kroth, 90, Havensville and formerly of western South Dakota, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Golden Acres Nursing Center in Onaga.

He served in the U.S. Army and Naval Reserve.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be today and Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, and before services at the church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Bucks Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Bucks Grove cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Bucks Grove United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Mary E. Finnegan

RAPID CITY — Mary E. Finnegan, 88, Rapid City, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, F. Bernard "Barney" Finnegan, Rapid City; two sons, Jim Finnegan and the Rev. Terence Finnegan, both of Phoenix; one daughter, Mary Agnes Weeldreyer, Appleton, Wis.; one brother, Edward L. McNeary, Hastings, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Floyd I. Phillips

SPEARFISH — Floyd I. Phillips, 87, Spearfish, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Spearfish.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Phillips, Spearfish; one daughter, Carol Wilson, Casper, Wyo.; five grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish.

William L. ‘Bill' Nash

PIEDMONT — William L. "Bill" Nash, 67, Piedmont, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was born May 17, 2001, at Platte, S.D., the son of Harley and Belle (Hoffman) Nash. He attended rural schools in the Platte area and graduated from Platte High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1954 to 1956. Bill married Betty Adamson on Aug. 23, 1959, at Academy, S.D. He farmed and ranched in the Platte-Academy area for a period of nine years, and in 1964, he sold his ranching/farming operation and purchased a welding shop at Chamberlain in 1965. He also owned and operated a feed store at Chamberlain from 1966 to 1970. Bill was the territory manager in eastern South Dakota for Hubbard Milling Company from 1970 to 1972. The family moved to Rapid City on June 9, 1972, and he became the general manager of 15 Hubbard line elevators. He was also the sales manager and production manager for the Hubbard Milling Co., retiring in May of 1994.

He was active in civic affairs and helped organize the first Stock Show held in the Rapid City Civic Center. He served on the Black Hills Area Boy Scout Council, was a member of the Rotary Club, served on the Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee, was a 27-year member of the Rapid City Elks Lodge, was a member of the American Legion, was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Rapid City Shrine Club. In the fall of 1986, Bill and his wife moved to a ranch on Elk Creek, and he has enjoyed putting up hay, boarding horses and working on the buildings on the ranch and restoring his collection of 14 old John Deere and Farmall tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Nash, Piedmont; two sons, Bruce Nash and his wife, Leisa, Black Hawk, and Brad Nash and his wife, Debra, Rapid City; a grandson, Benjamin Nash; a step-granddaughter, Sheena Ray; a brother, Russell Nash and his wife, June, St. Joseph, Mo.; and a sister, Jeannie Reuer and her husband, Alvin, Chamberlain.

Visitation will be one hour before services, which will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the First Congregational Church in Rapid City. Interment will be at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and Masonic Honors provided by Masonic Lodge 25 AF & AM.

A memorial has been established to the First Congregational Church.

Services are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Linda Jaycee Lynn Olson

GRENADINE, Mo. — Linda Jaycee Lynn Olson, 53, Grenadine, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Three Rivers Health Care North in Grenadine.

Survivors include one son, Marvin Dean Olson, Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Jerilyn Eddy, Chatfield, Minn., and Jayne Lynn Olson, Grandin; special friend Larry Kennon, Grandin; three sisters, Lana Odegard, Box Elder, S.D., Lee Ann Reller, Lead, S.D., and Carolyn Hopkins, Safford, Ariz.; her mother, Elvina Olson, Whitewood, S.D.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, with the Rev. G. Lawrence Kennon officiating.

Cremation will follow the funeral service.
