Sister Gabriel Zacher

RAPID CITY - Sister Gabriel Zacher, OSB, 76, died peacefully at St. Martin Monastery on Monday, October 22, 2001.

Mary Frances Zacher was born in Eagle Butte, S.D., on January 14, 1925, the 11th of 15 children born to Anton and Catherine Meier Zacher. She attended a rural elementary school and Eagle Butte High School. She entered St. Martin Monastery in 1942 and completed her high school education at St. Martin's Academy.

She entered St. Martin Monastery in 1942, made her temporary monastic profession in 1944 and her perpetual profession in 1947. She celebrated the 50th anniversary of her profession in 1994.

After her years of initial formation, Sister Gabriel attended Mount Marty College and began teaching in various parochial schools in western South Dakota. Always fond of "little ones, " she taught primary grades for 38 years in Gregory, Deadwood, Sturgis, Lemmon and Rapid City. She also conducted numerous religious vacation schools in parishes in South Dakota and Wyoming. From 1977-86, she was pastoral assistant at St. Therese the Little Flower Parish in Rapid City. From 1986-91, she was coordinator of the health-care unit at St. Martin Monastery. She continued to assist in the care of elderly members of the community until three months before her death from stomach cancer.

Sister Gabriel is survived by her monastic community; her sister, Ann Simpson, Rapid City; her brother, Louis Zacher, Belfield, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, at St. Martin Monastery, with vigil services at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 24. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, with Msgr. William O'Connell presiding. Burial will follow in the monastery cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Ann Jumping Eagle-Winslow

MANDERSON - Barbara Ann Jumping Eagle-Winslow, 59, Manderson, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Brandon, Fla.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Winslow, Brandon; two daughters, Marie Exum, Seffner, Fla., and Marsha Tubbs, Kempton, Ind.; two brothers, Dennis Hendricks, Pine Ridge, and Nelson Hendricks Jr., Austin, Texas; three sisters, Fern Cooper, California, and Donna Anderson and Maxine Garcia, both of Rapid City; and four grandchildren.

One-night wake begins at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at St. Agnes Catholic Hall in Manderson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Agnes, with the Rev. Jim Ryan officiating. Phillip Jumping Eagle will officiate at traditional services.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Ella E. Velzy

VIBORG - Ella E. Velzy, 92, longtime resident of the Northern Hills, passed away October 19, 2001, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg, S.D.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2001, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, S.D., with Father Kerry officiating.

Mrs. Velzy was born on a farm near Sutton, N.D., August 8, 1909, one of 10 children of her parents, John and Sophia (Wild) Youngbeck. She graduated from Cooperstown High School and attended Valley City State College in North Dakota. She married Everett B. Velzy in Sanborn, N.D., on July 1, 1933.

Ella received her teaching degree from Valley City State and taught in elementary schools in North Dakota, Lead, Belle Fourche, Huron, and Great Falls, Mont.

Following her husband's retirement in Nevada in 1971, the couple moved back to Spearfish, residing there until entering an apartment in Irene, S.D., in July of 1997. Ella and her husband were avid bridge players and were active for many years in the Spearfish Catholic Church and the Retired Teacher's Association. She loved her years of teaching and her many students. She cherished her family and friends, loved music and enjoyed traveling.

Mrs. Velzy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Everett, in the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg; son James and wife Reta of Yankton; daughter Marna Wier and husband Larry of Pinehurst, Idaho; three granddaughters, Tina and spouse Doug Tyree of Gayville, S.D., Dawn and spouse Doug Stephan of Reno, Nev., and Beth Pierson of Oregon City, Ore.; one grandson, Fritz Diekmann of Carson City, Nev.; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Gerald Youngbeck of Grinell, Iowa; a sister, Edna Laing of Edina, Minn.; sister Phyllis Gantz of Ault, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves four stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and two infant grandsons.

It was Mrs. Velzy's request that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be given to the Spearfish Senior Center.

Anna Katherine Larsen

ARLINGTON — Anna Katherine Larsen, 91, Arlington, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Brookings Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Darrel Larsen, Arlington, and Gerry Larsen, Lawrenceville, Ga.; one daughter, Bonnie Stratton, Rapid City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Jensen, Lake Norden; and one sister, Mildred Christman, Watertown.

Visitation was Monday, Oct. 22, at Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington. Further visitation will be before services today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. CDT today at the church, with the Rev. Mark Svaren officiating.

Burial will be at Arlington City cemetery.

Roy Leo Stoeser

FORT PIERRE — Roy Leo Stoeser, 87, Fort Pierre, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Mary House Sub-Acute Center in Pierre.

Survivors include his wife, Wauneta Stoeser, Fort Pierre; five daughters, Diane Gottschalk, Broken Bow, Neb., Linette Vetos, Missoula, Mont., Kathy Peterson and July Neilan, both of Philip, and Vicky DeKay, Tuthill; six sons, Roy Stoeser, Pamona, Calif., B.K. "Keith" Stoeser, Lavarre, Fla., Bert Stoeser, Winner, Reed Stoeser and Randy Stoeser, both of Fort Pierre, and Galen Stoeser, Valley Springs; 30 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Ben Stoeser, Fort Pierre, Gene Stoeser, Hayes, and Bernard Stoeser, Pierre.

Visitation and prayer service were Monday, Oct. 22, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Pierre.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the church.

Burial will be at Scotty Philip cemetery in Fort Pierre.

Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre is in charge of arrangements.

Dean Robert Crovisier Sr.

RAPID CITY — Dean Robert Crovisier Sr., 56, Rapid City, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in Rapid City.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Crovisier, Rapid City; one son, Dean Crovisier Jr., Rapid City; two daughters, Rhonda Schwandt and Brenda Miller; one sister, Beth Wiederien; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Little Chapel of the Pines in Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City, with Chaplain James Marrs officiating.

Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Gabriel Zacher

RAPID CITY — Sister Gabriel Zacher, 76, Rapid City, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at St. Martin Monastery Health Care Unit.

Survivors include one sister, Ann Simpson, Rapid City, and one brother, Louis Zacher, Belfield, N.D.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Timothy Allen McWilliams

RAPID CITY — Timothy Allen McWilliams, 46, of Rapid City, died Saturday, October 20, 2001, in Rapid City.

Timothy was born on September 9, 1955, to Robert and Georgina (Branch) McWilliams in Spokane, Wash. He grew up in a military family and lived at numerous bases. He attended Mar-Vista High School in Imperial Beach, Calif., graduating in 1974.

Timothy married Elaine C. Brown in Odessa, Texas, on January 18, 1975. They moved to Rapid City in July of 1977. He attended Western Dakota Vo-Tech and became a diesel mechanic in 1984. They were blessed with the adoption of their son, Daniel Timothy, in May 1987. Timothy loved the outdoors, hiking, fishing and working in the garden. He was a kind and gentle person who adored his son and family.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine McWilliams, and one son, Daniel McWilliams, both of Rapid City; his mother, Georgina McWilliams of

Safford, Ariz.; two brothers, Michael McWilliams of Tucson, Ariz., and Patrick McWilliams of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one uncle, Don McWilliams and his wife, Connie, of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. McWilliams.

Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then at the church Wednesday for one hour before services.

Memorial services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev.

Douglas L. Free officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

A memorial has been established to Calvary Academy in Milwaukee, Wis., or St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran School in Rapid City.

Chester J. ‘Bud' Tisdale

CUSTER — Chester J. "Bud" Tisdale, 82, Custer, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Heese and Pat Tisdale, both of Rapid City; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at First Baptist Church in Custer, with the Rev. Bill Savery officiating.

Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Custer is in charge of arrangements.

Deloris M. Steele

RAPID CITY — Deloris M. Steele, 68, of Rapid City, died at her home on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001.

Dee was born on December 17, 1932, in Custer, S.D., to Reginald and Olive (Phillips) Fall. They lived in numerous towns in southwest South Dakota and northeast Wyoming. They eventually moved to Sundance, Wyo., where she attended high school. She participated in cheerleading while attending high school in Sundance.

After high school, she worked for several years at the Elkhorn Cafe in Sundance.

Dee married James Steele on March 2, 1960, in Casper, Wyo. They moved to Buffalo, Wyo., shortly after they were married , then to Belle Fourche, where they stayed until approximately 1981. From there they moved to Grand Junction, Colo. They eventually settled in Rapid City, where they made their home for the last 19 years.

Dee enjoyed league bowling for many years while living in Belle Fourche. She was also active with her children, participating in Girl Scouts and encouraging them with their horse riding in the Bit and Spur Club.

Dee was an avid craftswoman. She enjoyed leather tooling, ceramics, woodworking and crocheting. Approximately five years ago, she began oil painting and was quite talented at it. Playing bingo was another of her many loves. When she was doing what she enjoyed, her eyes used to sparkle.

She was a devoted wife and mother, and she will be dearly missed by her husband and children. Her passing will leave a huge void in their lives.

She is survived by her husband, James Steele of Rapid City; one daughter, Brenda Adami and husband Brad of Black Hawk; three sons, Clyde Steele and wife Julie of Rapid City, Clark Steele of Hot Springs and Clay Steele of Lake City, Florida; two sisters, Alberta Hando and Marcella Wilson, both of Newcastle, Wyo.; three brothers, Alvin Fall of Newcastle, Kenneth Fall of Gillette, Wyo., and Jack Fall of Moorcroft, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Curtis, parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and then on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Services are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Kirk Chapel of Light in Rapid City, with the Rev. Tim Coats officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Vincent Virgil Martin

PINE RIDGE - Vincent Virgil Martin, 56, Pine Ridge, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in Rapid City.

Survivors include six sons, David Martin and Vincent Martin, both of Slim Buttes, Robert Martin, Manderson, and Dale Martin, Louis Martin and Lawrence Martin, all of Pine Ridge; two daughters, Lisa Martin and Julia Martin, both of Pine Ridge; eight brothers, Samuel Martin Jr. and Francis Martin, both of Slim Buttes, Kenneth Returns and Darrell Martin, both of Pine Ridge, Tony Martin, Porcupine, Chris Martin, Post Falls, Idaho, Manuel Martin, Oglala, and David Martin, Buffalo Gap; two sisters, Marilyn Martin, Buffalo Gap, and Geralyn Martin, Rapid City; and 16 grandchildren.

One-night wake begins at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Billy Mills Hall, with the Rev. Steve Sanford and the Rev. Leon Matthews officiating.

Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic cemetery in Slim Buttes.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
