Kenneth H. 'Kenny' Schulz

PHILIP - Kenneth H.

"Kenny" Schulz, 73, Philip, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Schulz, Philip; one son, Karl Schulz, Philip; three daughters, Susan Hoyme, Watertown, Marie Rogers, Rushmore, Minn., and Sarah Lewis, Spicer, Minn.; and 10 grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Rush Funeral Home in Philip and for one hour before services Saturday, Dec. 1, at American Legion Hall in Philip.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the hall, with the Rev. David Otten officiating.

Burial, with military honors by American Legion Post No. 173 of Philip, will be at Masonic cemetery in Philip.

A memorial has been established.

Dayne Jakob Hefty

RAPID CITY - Dayne Jakob Hefty, 19 months, Rapid City, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.

Survivors include his parents, David and Danette Hefty, Rapid City; one sister, Danae Hefty, Rapid City; and his grandparents, Duane and Barb Jespersen, Hemingford, Neb., Paul Hefty, Conrad, Iowa, and Dianna Danninger, Marysville, Wash.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Kent Bryant officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Edwin Henkens

CHADRON, Neb. - Earl Edwin Henkens, 90, Chadron, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Henkens, Chadron; two stepsons, Donald Osborn, Omaha, and Stephen Osborn, Hemingford; one daughter, Anna Schmidt, Chadron; two stepdaughters, Theresa Blausey, Chadron, and Jeannette Gabel, Sidney; and 14 grandchildren.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in World War II.

Services were Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with the Rev. Kelly McDowell officiating.

Burial, with military honors by Veterans Honor Guard, was at Greenwood cemetery in Chadron.

A memorial has been established for Dawes County 4-H, at Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Rose Red Hair

PINE RIDGE - Rose Red Hair, 91, Pine Ridge, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Hot Springs.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Freeman, Pine Ridge, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

One-night wake begins at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Brother Rene Catholic Hall in Oglala.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the hall, with the Rev. Bill Pauly and the Rev. Ben Tyon officiating. Floyd Hand will officiate at traditional services.

Burial will be at Holy Rosary Mission Catholic cemetery in Pine Ridge.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Engvold Maier

LEMMON - Engvold Maier, 97, Lemmon, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, N.D.

Survivors include one son, Eugene Maier, Las Vegas; three daughters, Leone Hay, Rawlins, Wyo., Joanne Lowery, Meridian, Idaho, and Bonnie Toler, Eagle, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

His wife, Lois Maier, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, with the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating.

Burial will be at Greenhill cemetery in Lemmon.

Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma B. Hennies

RAPID CITY - Wilma B. Hennies, 90, Rapid City, was called home to join her Lord and Savior on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at The Victorian, where she had resided for three years.

Wilma was born Jan. 14, 1911, in Wagner, S.D., to Edward and Belle (Jones) Kuca. On June 3, 1934, she was united in marriage to Clifford Hennies at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wagner. To this union were born two sons, Douglas and Dean. As well as being a farmer's wife, she taught elementary school for 18 years, including rural schools around Wagner and at Caputa in the Rapid City School District. Teaching young children was her life, and she achieved her goal of earning a degree in teaching from Black Hills State University after retiring from teaching.

She has been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wagner, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for 15 years, and Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Grateful for sharing her life were her two sons and their wives, Douglas (Sharon) Hennies, and Dean (Carlene) Hennies, of Rapid City; her grandchildren, Mark (Dr. Cathy) Hennies and son Cole, Canton, S.D., Julie (Rev. Kevin) Clark and son Samuel, Hot Springs, S.D., Matthew Hennies, Hope Hennies, and Faith (Rick) Featherstone, Rapid City; three sisters, Alice Duncansen and Grace Rados, both of Wagner, and Edith Goodoien, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, in 1966; her parents, Edward and Belle Kuca; sister Olive Buus and brother Richard.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at Behrens Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with Rev. Duane Duley officiating.

Burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 27, at St. John's cemetery in Wagner.

"Christ reached out to her. We do not question why. We know She is with her Lord."

Donna Maland

PIERRE - Donna Maland, 73, Pierre, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include two sons, Ken O'Day, Sioux Falls, and Jim O'Day, Little Falls, Minn.; two daughters, Barb McQuistion, Fort Pierre, and Sandy Rudek, Little Falls; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre, with the Rev. Donna Nickels officiating.

Burial will be at Scotty Philip cemetery in Fort Pierre.

Glenn T. McPherson

PIEDMONT - Glenn T. McPherson, 78, Piedmont, died Friday morning, Nov. 23, 2001, at Westhills Village Health Care in Rapid City.

Glenn was born April 11, 1923, at Sturgis, S.D., to Eugene and Ida (Thiers)

McPherson. He attended Alkali country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1941. After graduation, he ranched at his dad's place on Alkali Creek. He met Rosalind Kammerer, and they were married on April 14, 1948, at Rapid City. They moved to a ranch 10 miles east of Piedmont on Elk Creek Road where he ranched with his father-in-law, Ernest Kammerer. After his father-in-law's death, he continued to ranch the rest of his life.

Glenn was a 50-year member of the Elks. He was also a school board member of the Harmony School District 73 for many years. Glenn was the secretary of the South Dakota State High School Rodeo for nearly 20 years.

He belonged to the Hermosa, New Underwood and Black Hills roping clubs. Glenn enjoyed horse pack trips to the Big Horns and trail riding in the Black Hills.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalind McPherson, Piedmont; two sons and their wives, Terry and Deb McPherson and Jay and Lori McPherson, all of Piedmont; five brothers and their wives, Earl and Celeste McPherson, rural Sturgis, Arnold and Maxine McPherson, Sturgis, Joe and Alma McPherson, Sturgis, Don and Mabel McPherson, rural Sturgis, and Dale and Dorothy McPherson, Rapid City; one sister, Mae Keffeler, Sturgis; five grandchildren, Michael, Alison, Misty, Kelsie and Marty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents and one sister, Edna preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, and one hour before services at the church. A rosary and Christian prayer service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church in Piedmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church, with Father Mark McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary cemetery in Rapid City.

A memorial has been established to Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church.

George John Homan

STURGIS - George John Homan, 83, Sturgis, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include one son, Harvey Homan, Anchorage, Alaska.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Chapel of the Whispering Pines at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Service in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Darryl Bayman

RAPID CITY - Darryl Bayman, age 40, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at his Rapid City residence.

Darryl Bayman was born March 7, 1961, in Rapid City, S.D. He was the son of Donald Bayman and Donna Bayman Kennedy. As a child, he attended Meadowbrook

Elementary, West Junior High and graduated from Stevens High School, class of 1979. He attended the University of South Dakota for three years and received his degree from Black Hills State University.

He married Pamela Hagel, his sweetheart of 14 years, on June 26, 1998, in Rapid City. Darryl worked a variety of jobs and was doing substitute teaching while taking college courses to prepare for the teaching occupation. He enjoyed an active outdoors life, hunting and fishing, and he played baseball for many years, extending from the youth programs to the amateur adult league. No doubt his passion was playing baseball. All friends and family knew Darryl as an avid Vikings football fan also.

His survivors are his wife, Pamela; his father, Donald, and stepmother, Sandy Bayman of Georgia; his mother, Donna, and stepfather Donald Kennedy of Rapid City; sisters, Debby and Bryan Gonzalez, and DeAnn Poppe and children Jessica, Joshua and Jacob, all of Rapid City; one brother, Dale and Deby Bayman, and children Sam and Taylor; stepbrother, Tim and Heather Bayman, and children Kody and Alex, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepsister, Lisa Mills, and son Nolan of Utah; stepbrother Alan and Ida Kennedy, and their children Jonathan, Alan Jr. and Alana of Michigan; stepsisters Cheryl and Brant Webb, and their children Mindy and David Copeland of Rapid City, and Joan and Dave Ormesher, and their daughter, Samantha of Keystone, Pamela Kennedy and Kristy Westby, and their children, Angela and Tory of Rapid City; brother-in-law, Dan and Esther Hagel, and their children Tayler and Sydney of Rapid City; mother-in-law, Linda and LeRoy Weiser of Rapid City, and father-in-law, Jim and Jo Hagel of New Mexico; as well as an extended line of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bruce Thalacker officiating.

A reception for family and friends will follow at the Party House of Fairway Hills following the service. A baseball memorial will be established, and contributions to the memorial may be sent to 2329 Cameron Drive, Rapid City, SD 57702.

Florence J. Hofmeister

PARKER - Florence Jean "Fuss" Hofmeister, 88, Marion and formerly of Parker, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Sioux Valley Hospital.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth, Parker; one sister, Hazel Iverson, Beresford; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home in Parker. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at First Presbyterian Church in Parker. Burial will be at Rosehill cemetery.

Linda Axdahl

BOX ELDER - Linda Axdahl, 52, Box Elder, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Orwin Axdahl, Box Elder; one son, Justin Axdahl; one brother, Tom Halverson, Sioux Falls; and her parents, Melvin and Amy Bugbee, Grand Forks, N.D.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
