Vern H. Roll
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Vern H. Roll, 84, Newcastle, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include one son, James Roll, Salida, Colo.; one stepson, Carl McGlaughlin, Newcastle; one stepdaughter, Marian Stickel, Kirbyville, Mo.; and a twin sister, Verna Johnstone, Denver.
His wife, Harriet Roll, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Worden Chapel, with the Rev. Norm Brotzman and the Rev. Trish Underberg officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Newcastle.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Treasa (Werlinger) Feaster
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Treasa (Werlinger) Feaster, 65 formerly of Sturgis, South Dakota, lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
After a stroke in 1995 lived with her daughter, Debora and husband, Brad and family in Edmonds, Washington and the past few years lived with her daughter Diane and husband, Shain Loucks of Fort Collins, Colorado. She died January 1, 2002 in Mesa, Arizona while visiting with her son Jamie and family in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born April 5, 1936 in Vale, South Dakota.
Mrs. Feaster was an operator and secretary for the telephone company for 30 years before retiring in 1995. She worked in Newcastle, Sheridan, then transferred to Cheyenne, Wyoming with the telephone company.
She is survived by two sons, Jamie, and wife, Linda Feaster and family of Gilbert, Arizona, and Rick Feaster of Everett, Washington; two daughters, Debora and husband, Brad Nielsen and family of Edmonds, Washington, and Diane and husband, Shain Loucks of Fort Collins, Colorado. She is also survived by six brothers and two sisters. Brothers are Joe and wife, Erma Werlinger of Sturgis, South Dakota; Lefty (Sebastian) and wife, Theresa Werlinger of Ord, Nebraska; Louie and wife, Pat Werlinger of Caldwell, Idaho; Pius and wife, Doris Ann Werlinger; Jim and wife, Darlene Werlinger of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Tony and wife, Geri Werlinger of Sturgis, South Dakota; and sisters surviving are Mary Ann Powers of Sacramento, California and Francey and husband, Jake Jacobsen of Port Townsend, Washington. Grandchildren surviving are Lauren Nielsen of Edmonds, Washington, and Jodi and Erik Feaster of Gilbert, Arizona. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Feaster on January 30, 1993, her parents, Casmier J. and Mary Ann Werlinger and two sisters, Maggie Rowley and Julia Nemnich.
Vigil for the deceased was held January 4, 2002, at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes and the Funeral Liturgy was held on Saturday, 5 January 2002 in Cheyenne, Wyoming at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Monsignor Gerald Sullivan as the celebrant. Interment was in the Beth El cemetery, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Albert M. 'Shep' Ginsbach
BELLE FOURCHE - Albert M. "Shep" Ginsbach died
Monday, January 7, 2002, at Fort Meade VAMC following a lengthy fight with emphysema.
He was born on November 30, 1923, on the Nick Fink ranch south of Buffalo, South Dakota, when his mother was unable to reach the hospital due to weather conditions. His parents were Henry B. Ginsbach and Elva Zoe (Cottington) Ginsbach.
He spent his early years on the family ranch south of Redig. He was nicknamed by pioneer rancher Will Ernest as the "Little Shepherd" and has been known as Shep Ginsbach ever since. He survived being struck by lightning while driving a team of horses at an early age.
In 1944, he joined the Army and was trained as an anti-tank gunner, but as he retold the events, by the time he got to Europe, the Germans had run out of tanks, so he was assigned to the infantry. He served under Generals George Patton and Mark Clark and was wounded twice, for which he received the Purple Heart.
After the war, he married
Clara Miller, and two sons were born to this marriage, Patrick and Randall. He operated heavy equipment in Alaska, and with his brothers, before going to work for Baroid Industries at Colony, Wyoming, for 22 years. He spent many weekends shearing sheep for local ranchers.
He is survived by his two sons, Pat of Hot Springs, and Randy (Joni) of Belle Fourche; six grandchildren, Frank, Laci, Katherine, Cali, Mary Clair and Alic; his sister, Dorothy Sorenson of Belle Fourche; and his brothers, Gerald Ginsbach of Belle Fourche, and Tom and Jim Ginsbach of Buffalo, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother Henry (Bud) and sister Eleanor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche, with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 11, at Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Norma King
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Newcastle resident Norma King, 89, died Monday, January 7, 2002, at Weston County Manor.
Services are tentatively set for Thursday, January 10, at Worden Chapel, 2 p.m.
Norma was born March 12, 1912, at Hader, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Pauline (Marquardt) Degner. She attended school in Nebraska and Minnesota. On July 23, 1932, she married
Ivan Earl King.
As a girl Norma's family homesteaded in the Thornton, Wyo., area. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and horsewoman. She supported her husband in his business endeavors. She loved cooking for her family and friends and entertained them often. She loved her family best and especially treasured her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were both parents, husband Ivan King, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include four sons, Loren of Moorcroft, Larry of Worland, Lyle of Newcastle and Robin of Newcastle, and one daughter, Lorna Thomas of Worland; also 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Family suggests memorials to Weston County Manor Activities Department.
Debra Jean Kahler
WINNER - Debra Jean Kahler, 42, Winner, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.
Survivors include her husband, David Kahler Sr., Winner; three daughters, Donna Olson, Dana Clairmont and Desirae Kahler, all of Winner; one son, David Kahler Jr., Winner; her parents, Bill and Gerry Mitchell, Rifle, Colo.; five brothers, Butch Mitchell and Bill Mitchell Jr., both of Silt, Colo., John Mitchell and Jack Mitchell, both of Rifle, and Donnie Mitchell, Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister, Karen Anglin, Yankton; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be for one hour before services, which will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at United Methodist Church in Winner.
Burial will be at Winner cemetery.
Mason Funeral Home of Winner is in charge of arrangements.
George C. Groeneveld
MESA, Ariz. - George C. Groeneveld, 83, Mesa and
formerly of Rapid City, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Mesa.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen Groeneveld; one son, Marv Groeneveld; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Mariposa Gardens Chapel in Mesa.
Mesa Funeral Care is in charge of arrangements.
Brianne Lynn Drapeau
RAPID CITY - Brianne Lynn Drapeau, 21, left this earth to be with God on January 6, 2002. She will be missed by many. She was born March 1, 1980, in Rapid City.
Those that loved her most, her parents, Victor and Beverly Drapeau; grandfather, Bennie Zoss, uncles Roger, Dennis and Chris Zoss, Babe Drapeau; aunts, Brenda Moring, Kirby Zoss, Susan and Kevin Nelson, Norma and Bill Zoss, Cindy and Dave Majerus, Judy Pena, Linda Zephier, Betty and Mona Drapeau, and Audrey Faith, along with numerous cousins and friends.
She will be joining in heaven her grandmother Valerie Ree, grandmother Jeanette Drapeau, and grandfather Fred Drapeau.
Brianne lived most of her life in Rapid City and lived it to the fullest.
Viewing will be at noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Kirk Funeral Home.
A wake will be held Thursday evening, Jan. 10, at the American Legion Hall in Wagner.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Wagner, with the Rev. Conrad Ciesel officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Presbyterian cemetery in Pickstown.
Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
Ronald L. Lakson
SPEARFISH — Ronald L. Lakson 80, Spearfish and formerly of Lead, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, Spearfish; two nephews, Ross Franklin, Seattle, Wash., and Randy Franklin, Brookings; and two nieces.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
There will be no visitation. Services and burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the Heart Fund.
Lee Ann Phillips
RAPID CITY — Lee Ann Phillips, 46, Rapid City, died Thursday Jan. 3, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Natt Phillips, Rapid City; and one brother, Philip Thompson.
Arrangements are pending with Behrens Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Evelyn Wibmer
LEAD — Evelyn Wibmer, 88, Lead, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Kirkwood Manor.
Survivors include one son, Vincent Wibmer, Lead; one daughter, Carolyn Boortz, Butler, Ga.; one brother, Everette, Flasted, Mont.; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel in Lead.
Theodore Ira Spaulding
HURON — Theodore Ira Spaulding, 88, Huron, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at his home.
He was a retired brigadier general for the South Dakota Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Ardes, Huron; two daughters, Deborah Lincoln, Fredericksburg, Va., and Rebecca Freeman, Huron; two sons, T. Mark Spaulding, Lacey, Wash., and Matthew Spalding, Chester, Va.; two brothers, Thomas Spalding, McClean, Va., and John C. Spalding, Huron; one sister, Donna Knudson, Killdeer, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Kuhler Funeral Home, and before services at the church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Huron, with the Rev. George Parmeter and the Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial, with military rights provided by 153rd Eng. Bn, S.D. National Guard, will be in the spring at Union cemetery in Sherwood, N.D.
Mary Lou Johnson
BISON — Mary Lou Johnson, 63, Bison, died Saturday, Sept. 15, en route to a Hettinger, N.D., hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Leslie Johnson, Lyndel Johnson and Nathan Johnson, all of Bison; one daughter, Nadene Johnson, Rochelle, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Harold Johnson, Salt Lake City; and two sisters, Ella Lemke, Sandy, Utah, and Verna Satter, Wessington Springs.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, with family services at 7 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday, Sept. 22, at Bison American Lutheran Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Burial will be at Bison cemetery.
