Minnie Elizabeth Budmayr

BELLE FOURCHE — Minnie Elizabeth Budmayr, 79, Belle Fourche, passed away Monday, September 17, 2001, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

She was born December 11, 1921, in Acquapendente, Italy, to Anthony and Maria (Golini) Fusi. At the age of five, she came to the United States through Ellis Island. She and her family resided in Trenton, New Jersey, graduating from Trenton High School.

She met her husband, Louis W. Budmayr, at Fort Dix in Trenton, New Jersey. They were married on May 16, 1946, in Belle Fourche, S.D.

Minnie was a member of West Side Extension Club and Colony Club. She was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was involved in Altar Society and coordinating CCD and CYO classes for youth.

She especially enjoyed traveling abroad to visit relatives in Rome, Italy. She had a love for Broadway plays, symphonies and operas.

Minnie took great and caring pleasure in her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Louis Budmayr, Belle Fourche; six sons, Leslie Budmayr, Belle Fourche, Randy Budmayr, Chandler, Ariz., Rick Budmayr and wife Jacqueline, Woodstock, Illinois, Russell Budmayr and wife Myla, Mission, S.D., Robert Budmayr and wife Jennifer, Belle Fourche, and Brian Budmayr and wife Hallie, Belle Fourche; two daughters, Maria Johnson and husband Jerry, Rapid City, and Nancy Budmayr, Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; a daughter-in-law, Nilda Budmayr; and two sons, Allan and Glen.

Visitation began Wednesday, September 19, and continues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Thursday, September 20, at Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche, with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche.

A memorial has been established to the Diocesan Seminary Education Fund.

George L. Hardenbrook

RAPID CITY — George L. Hardenbrook, 69, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include two sisters, Cora Perkins, Lithonia, Ga., and Dorothy Dunlap, Kelso, Wash.

Arrangements are pending with Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Service of Rapid City.

Richie Peck

RAPID CITY — Richie Peck, 49, Rapid City, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He was born on March 17, 1952, at Schenectady, New York, to Lorrin and Barbara Peck.

He served in the Armed Forces from 1971 to 1974.

He was a cabinetmaker and finisher at Riss Brothers Millworks for many years. He was a longtime member of Reno's in Black Hawk.

He is survived by his wife, Raeona Peck of Black Hawk; one daughter, Laura M. Peck of Florida; his mother, Barbara J. Peck of New York; four sisters, Gloria J. Stiffen, Kelly S. Peck and Traci L. Peck, all of New York, and Tami L. VanEps of Vermont; one godson, Joey M. Kravetz of Vermont; and many nieces and nephews, friends and special friends Michael C. Baker and Muriel A. Baker of Black Hawk.

Graveside services will be Friday, September 21, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota, with Reverend Dotte Batty officiating.

The Sturgis Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Behrens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ann Johnson

WENTWORTH - Mary Ann Johnson, 53, Wentworth, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Johnson, Wentworth; one son, Duran Johnson, San Francisco; one daughter, Tammi Borah, Chester; two grandchildren; her father, Eral Liebnow, Huron; and three sisters, Kathy Carstens, Gillette, Wyo., Beatrice Carr, Brookings, and Audrey Fuerstenau, Watertown.

Visitation, with family present, will be from 5 p.m. to

7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Wentworth, with the Rev. Dwaine Doremus officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Huron.

Opal Ellen Critchfield Leighton

WINNER - Opal Ellen Critchfield Leighton, 93, Winner, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Winner Regional Health Care Center.

Survivors include four sons, Wilford Leighton and Ben Leighton, both of Witten, Ronnie Leighton, Sioux Falls, and Donnie Leighton, Minneapolis; five daughters, Donna Mae Larvie, Mission, Hazel Harrison, Spearfish, Arlene Olson, Winner, Ida Ieard, Minneapolis, and Paulette Campbell, Sioux Falls; 28 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at First Baptist Church in Witten.

Burial will be at Winner cemetery.

Sarah E. Corey

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Sarah E. Corey passed away on Sept. 27, 2001, at her home at McMinnville, Oregon.

Sarah was born Jan. 31, 1915, at Winnetoon, Neb., the daughter of Emil and Cora Grabowski. She was raised on a farm near Winner, S.D., moving to the Black Hills in 1934. Sarah was a beautician in the Black Hills area for a period of 55 years.

Sarah married Buck Corey on Oct. 14, 1940, at Rushville, Neb.

Survivors include a daughter, Terry Sorenson; grandson Kai Sorenson and his wife, Heather; great-grandson, Joshua Corey Sorenson; two nieces, Nancy Webb and Mary Ottoson; and two nephews, Jack Grabowski and Rick Grabowski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother and a grandson, Kurt Sorenson.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View cemetery, with Rev. Steve Rhodes officiating. Friends may gather at the funeral home prior to services.

Evonne Arlene Brown Prentice

FAIRMONT, Minn. - Evonne Arlene (Brown) Prentice, 70, Fairmont and formerly of Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Rapid City, to Earl and Clara Brown.

Survivors include one daughter, Eva Krenz, Fairmont; two sons, George Prentice, Fairmont, and Patrick Prentice, Dolliver, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Robert Prentice, Estherville, Iowa, and Bert Prentice, Georgia; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Street, Fort. Dodge, Iowa; and three sisters, Darlene Ray, Barbara Morris and twin sister Elaine Ray, all of Rapid City.

Visitation was before services, which were Monday, Oct. 1, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

John H. Allendorf Jr.

HETTINGER, N.D. - John H. Allendorf Jr., 83, Hettinger and formerly of Prairie City, S.D., died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hettinger.

Survivors include several cousins.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Nelson officiating.

Burial will follow at Bison cemetery in Bison, S.D.

Harmon L. Rose

RAPID CITY - Harmon L. Rose, 82, Rapid City, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Rose, Rapid City; one son, James Rose, Rapid City; one daughter, Catherine Rose, Greenbelt, Md.; one sister, Josie Winters, Rapid City; five grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Georgia Sue Allgier

HILL CITY - Georgia Sue Allgier, 57, Hill City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, John Allgier, Hill City; two sons, Russell Allgier and Matt Allgier, both of Rapid City; two daughters, Lori Allgier-Demello, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Amy Ness, Shakopee, Minn.; four brothers, David Spear, Hill City, John Spear and Ken Spear, both of Cheyenne, and Ron Spear, Custer; one sister, Carol Heil, Keystone; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Behrens Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Hexing officiating.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Hill City cemetery.

Don Norman

BUFFALO GAP — Don Norman, 72, Buffalo Gap, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Norman of Buffalo Gap.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Kenneth N. Stroom

IVANHOE, Minn. — Kenneth N. Stroom, 63, Ivanhoe and formerly of Hot Springs, S.D., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Divine Providence Health Care Center in Ivanhoe.

Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Romey, Strawberry, Ariz., Lorraine Treim, Sandy, Utah, and Karen Egley, Marshall.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Oral, S.D.

Myron ‘Jim' Varner

SPEARFISH — Myron "Jim" Varner, 54, Spearfish, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Varner, Spearfish; one son, Steve Varner, Spearfish; one brother, Cliff Varner, Baker, Mont.; one sister, Lavonne Thielan, Baker; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church in Spearfish, with the Rev. Dan Kent officiating.

Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery in Spearfish.

Rhonda Fischer

OMAHA, Neb. - Rhonda Fischer, 46, Omaha, and formerly of Rapid City, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Lied Transplant Center in Omaha.

Survivors include one son, Jason Fischer, Omaha; her parents, Lyle and Frances Fischer, Rapid City; three brothers, Alan Fischer, Powell, Wyo., Robin Fischer, Houston, and Mark Fischer, Rapid City; and one sister, Julie Reuer, Rapid City.

Memorial services will be held in Rapid City at a later date.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of local arrangements.
