Virginia F. Wahlen

RAPID CITY - Virginia F. Wahlen, 88, of Rapid City, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at a local nursing home.

She was born June 30, 1913, at Newell, S.D., to Julius and Juanita (Webb) Ireland. She graduated from high school at Newell, then attended Yankton College where she studied music. She also attended college in Portland, Oregon, and the Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. She married Frank Burke Wahlen at Yuma, Arizona. She worked as a draftsman for San Bernadino County, California, as a mapmaker for the Flood Control District for 15 years, retiring in 1978.

From 1978 until 2000, she resided in Sturgis and then lived in Rapid City since then. She was a very accomplished artist and loved painting nature scenes, selling many of her paintings.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Wahlen of Rapid City.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1961, her mother on June 23, 1966, husband Frank on Oct. 10, 1961, and brother Stanley Ireland on Feb. 28, 1989.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Sturgis. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m. for the procession to Hope cemetery in Newell for graveside services at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. The Rev. Wayne Williams will officiate.

Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of the arrangements.

Lyla L. Macheel

LEMMON — Lyla L. Macheel, 81, Lemmon, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.

Survivors include her husband, William H. Macheel, Lemmon; two sons, William Jr., Rapid City, and Gary of Lugoff, S.C.; one brother, Burkie Dix, Lemmon; two sisters, Violet Jensen, Sioux Falls, and Eileen Smith, Bowman, N.D.; and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, and one hour before services at the church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lemmon, with the Rev. Florence Hoff officiating.

Burial will be at Greenhill cemetery.

Helen Arlene Shields

RAPID CITY — Helen Arlene Shields, 68, Rapid City, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at her daughter's home in Caldwell, Idaho.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Grant, Caldwell; two brothers, Russell Adkins and Claud Adkins, both of Rapid City; and one granddaughter.

Graveside memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Mountain View cemetery.

Dakan Funeral Home in Caldwell is in charge of arrangements.

John F. Perli

RAPID CITY - John F. Perli, 80, Rapid City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Perli, Rapid City; three sons, Rodney Perli, Holland, Minn., and Richard Perli and Keith Perli, both of Rapid City; one sister, Frances Baker, Rockerville; and 10 grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Mildred Hasselstrom

RAPID CITY - Mildred Hasselstrom, 91, Rapid City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Hasselstrom, Hermosa, and two brothers, George Hey and Harry Hey, both of Edgemont.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Jerome C. Hellman

LEMMON - Jerome C. Hellman, 78, Lemmon, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at his home.

Arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon.

Goldie Beare

RAPID CITY - Goldie Beare, 66, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include one son, Richard Beare, Minneapolis; one daughter, Frances Beare, Winner; and two brothers, Garnet Black Beare, Eagle Butte, and the Rev. Gerald Yellow Hawk, Black Hawk.

A wake will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at First Nations Church in Rapid City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the church.

Burial will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

Behrens Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Teddy LaVerne 'Ted' Knutson

QUINN - Teddy LaVerne "Ted" Knutson, 79, rural Quinn, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Knutson, rural Quinn; five sons, Rod Knutson and Barry Knutson, both of Philip, Steve Knutson, Milesville, Brandy Knutson, Wanblee, and Cody Knutson, Lincoln, Neb.; three daughters, Paula Knutson, Silver City, Teddi Reckling, Lincoln, and Lynn Buchholz, Philip; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sylvia Schultz, Pierre, Alice Carr, Philip, and Lillian Perry, Bellevue, Wash.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at First Lutheran Church in Philip, with the Rev. Paul Bly officiating.

Burial, with military honors by American Legion Post 173 of Philip, will be at Masonic cemetery in Philip.

Stacy R. Dickinson

BOX ELDER - Stacy R. Dickinson, 37, Box Elder, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his father, James L. Dickinson, Black Hawk, and two brothers, Shannon Dickinson, Black Hawk, and Charles Dickinson, Pueblo, Colo.

No services are planned.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barry T. Hess

BELLE FOURCHE - Barry T. Hess, 39, Belle Fourche, died Monday, Sept. 18, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristina Hess and Tara Hess, both of Belle Fourche; one grandson; his parents, Pete and Bernice Hess, Belle Fourche; one sister, Lori McNeese, Belle Fourche; and one brother, Perry Hess, Trophy Club, Texas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche and for one hour before services Monday, Sept. 24, at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Hans Sacrison officiating.

Burial will be at Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche.

Terry T. Everett

CUSTER - Terry T. Everett, 61, Custer, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, in Hot Springs.

Arrangements are pending with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Custer.

Donald Keith Eugene 'Donnie' Nelson

PIERRE - Donald Keith Eugene "Donnie" Nelson, 44, Pierre and formerly of Rapid City, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Nelson, Pierre; two brothers, Ronald Bartel, Lawrenceville, Ga., and David Nelson, Rapid City; and two sisters, Roberta Tryggestad, Aurora, Colo., and Bonita Thomas, Pierre.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Feigum Funeral home in Pierre.

Burial will follow at Onida cemetery.

Winifred Davis Purycar Parker

PIERRE - Winifred Davis Purycar Parker, 87, Pierre, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Maryhouse Sub-Acute Center in Pierre.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley Parker, Belle Fourche, and Michael Parker, Pierre; one daughter, Patricia Whipple, Lehi, Utah; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Her husband, William Fay Parker, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre.

Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Pierre.

Mary Kathryn Pettyjohn

CUSTER - Mary Kathryn Pettyjohn was born August 29, 1932, in Ponca City, Okla., the daughter of John and Hattie (Burk) Dunham. As a child she moved with her family to Wanblee.

She was married to Ted Pettyjohn on August 29, 1950, in Denver, Colorado. Together, they raised five children on their ranch south of Kadoka. Mary enjoyed her work as a cook for the Kadoka Care Center and Pennington County Corrections Facilities. Her greatest joy in life was time spent with her children and grandchildren as well as the many youngsters who came to visit the ranch.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ted W. Pettyjohn; three sons, Fred Pettyjohn and Zane Pettyjohn of Kadoka, and Ted C. Pettyjohn of Rapid City; two daughters, Brenda Pettyjohn, Tucson, Ariz., and Jana Coller, Custer; three brothers, John Dunham, Norris, Wayne (Jim) Dunham, Newell, and Gene Dunham, Grand Junction, Colo.; four sisters, Pharabe Tipton, Wyandotte, Okla., Wanda Mae Ellis, Ponca City, Okla., and Ruth Ann Dunham and Beulah Dunham of Rapid City; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry Edward (in infancy) and Donald Dunham; and a great-granddaughter, Jaylee Dae Coller.

Funeral services for Mary K. Pettyjohn, age 69, of Custer, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2001, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating. Mary died Monday afternoon at Rapid City Regional Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2001, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka, and for one hour preceding the services at the church on Sunday.

A luncheon for family and friends will be held at the church preceding the services at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Following services, she will be buried at the Frying Pan Ranch cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made to a memorial established in her name to benefit patients and families receiving care at the Dialysis Unit at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Contributions to the memorial can be sent to 2348 Carter Dr., Rapid City, SD 57702.

William F. Peck

REEDER, N.D. - William F. Peck, 69, Reeder and formerly of Lemmon, S.D., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.

Survivors include four daughters, Darla Day, Huntley, Mont., Debbie Frank, Butte, Mont., Diana Stein, Billings, Mont., and Donna Hunter, Lake Zurich, Ill.; two brothers, Doug Hills and Bob Hills, both of Summit, S.D.; four sisters, Molly Albretsen, San Mateo, Calif., Dean Hansen, Willows, Calif., Jenny King, Fremont, Calif., and Julie Pinter, Webster, S.D.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and for one hour before services Friday, Nov. 23, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Gordon Higgins officiating.

Burial will be at Bear Butte cemetery in Sturgis.
