HURON — Lillian May, 79, Huron, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Dale May, Huron; one son, Dale May Jr., Huron; three daughters, Rita Swanson, Winter Park, Fla., Gayle Langbehn, Durant, Iowa, and Charlene Olson, Rapid City; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be this afternoon and evening and Thursday morning, Sept. 27, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, and before services Thursday afternoon at Congregational United Church of Christ.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Brian Grover and the Rev. Jim Schatz officiating.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens cemetery in Huron.

Albert Henry Brehe

AGAR — Albert Henry Brehe, 88, Agar, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Brehe, Agar; three daughters, Bonnie Smith, Lincoln, Neb., Connie Hedeen, Piedmont, and Bobbie Bierman, Mansfield; one son, Dale Brehe, Agar; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Westphal, Anchorage, Alaska.

Prayer services were held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Agar.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onida, with the Rev. Richard Milbrandt officiating.

Burial will be at Onida cemetery.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia L. Mathern

SPEARFISH — Virginia L. Mathern, 74, Spearfish, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Zweigle, Minneapolis, and Janet Mathern, Spearfish; one son, Spencer Stearns, Heckla; two sisters, Marjorie Bonzer, Lakewood, Colo., and Bonnie Herseth, Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private family services will be held today at Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, with the Rev. Kip Roozen officiating.

Michael 'Mick' Hemmer

RAPID CITY — Michael "Mick" Hemmer, known on the radio as "Jack Lundy, " 49, Rapid City and formerly of Watertown, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident.

Survivors include three brothers, Gene Hemmer, Kerrville, Texas, Joseph Hemmer, Watertown, and Jack Hemmer, Austin, Texas; and two sisters, JoAnn Vaughn, Maryville, Tenn., and Linda Schurmann, Watertown.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City.

Private graveside services will be at Mount Hope cemetery in Watertown.

Wight and Fox Funeral Chapel of Watertown is in charge of local arrangements.

Catherine Hemesath Brodrecht

PRESHO — Catherine Hemesath Brodrecht, 100, Presho, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Maryhouse Nursing Home in Pierre.

Survivors include two sons, Leo Brodrecht and William Brodrecht, both of Presho; three daughters, Helen Urban and Emma Mertens, both of Presho, and Mary Ann Schoenfelder, Mitchell; one brother, Frank Hemesath, Pierre; two sisters, Anna, Pierre, and Rose, Presho; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation and rosary service were held Sunday, Sept. 23, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Presho.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 24, at the church.

Burial was at Holy Angel cemetery in Presho.

Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel of Pierre was in charge of arrangements.

Leslie 'Les' Brinkman

PIERRE — Leslie "Les" Brinkman, 85, Pierre, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Brinkman, Pierre.

A prayer service will be at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at United Methodist Church in Pierre.

Burial will be at Scotty Philip cemetery in Fort Pierre.

Charles 'Chuck' Tollinger

LITTLETON, Colo. — Charles "Chuck" Tollinger, 91, Littleton and formerly of New Underwood, S.D., and Rapid City, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Christian Living Campus, Johnson Center Nursing Home in Littleton.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Tollinger, Littleton, and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View cemetery in Rapid City, with the Rev. Ted Huffman officiating.

Luvern C. Neugebauer, 81
May 8, 1935 - November 13, 2016

Mass of Christian burial for Luvern Neugebauer was held November 17 SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock.

Burial was in the SS Peter and Paul cemetery.

Luvern C. Neugebauer was born May 8, 1935, in Starr Township, Hutchinson County to Edward and Clara (Luebke) Neugebauer. His mother died at a young age, and he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Ernest and Pauline Misterek. He attended country school and Ethan Schools. He started farming at an early age. He volunteered for the service in September of 1957 and served in France. After serving in the United States Army, he returned home to the farm and married Elaine Erpenbach August 26, 1961, at Epiphany. He farmed with his boys until his death.

In the spring of 2015, the couple traveled to Italy and had the opportunity to see the Pope.

He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Ethan American Legion, served on the Rome Township Board for 51 years, Ethan Coop Lumber Board for 21 years, Ethan Rural Fire Board for eight years, and Farm Bureau Office, and a was member of the Stock Growers Association.

He died Sunday, November 13, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. He attained the age of 81 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, Ethan; children, Norman (Lisa) Neugebauer, Mitchell, Linda (Eugene) Cap, Tripp, Edward (Lisa) Neugebauer, Mitchell, Mary (Melvin) Cap, Scotland, and Tim (Nicole) Neugebauer, Ethan; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Vernon (LaVerna) Neugebauer, Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Nelda Neugebauer, Mitchell, Theresa (Dick Fehr) Erpenbach, Norwood Young America, Minnesota, Joyce Christensen, Pat (Bill) Walz, Pat Erpenbach, all of Sioux Falls, Connie (Jerry) Kurth, Bridgewater, Darlene (Dick) Muth, Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Jim (Joan) Erpenbach, Nevada, Missouri, Anthony (Joyce) Erpenbach, Plankinton, and Joe (Barb) Erpenbach, Howard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Ernest and Pauline Misterek; brothers, Wilfred and Elaine, Ray, Everett and Anitta, Lewis and Jennetta; sisters, Lona, an infant baby; brothers-in-law, John Erpenbach, Allan Erpenbach, Dick Christensen; and his in-laws, Anthony and Katherine Erpenbach.

Thomas John Morris
Dec 04 1945 - May 08 2010

Born in Rapid City on December 4, 1945

Died on May 8, 2010 at Fort Meade, SD

The family moved to Lead when Tom was 3-years old and he attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Lead High School in 1963.

Tom attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion and Black Hills State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Education. He married and had two daughters from this union.

He was a teacher in Terraville, SD and in Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army in 1972-73 and in the National Guard until 1975.

He worked in Wisconsin and Illinois prior to going into a 17-year business partnership with his brother, Dave, at Morris’ Standard Station in Lead. He retired in 1995 following a work-related injury. He continued to reside in Lead until his death.

Survived by his daughters, Dawn and Tammy, brothers, Dan Morris, Lead, SD; Dave (Betty) Morris, Lead, SD; Peter Morris, Parker, CO; a sister, Linda (Bob) Asheim, Belle Fourche, SD as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Morris and Muriel I. (Hanson) Morris; and a sister, Sarah Cynthia (Sally Morris) Garcia.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Peace Chapel, Fort Meade (Building 148) with Father Paul G. Dahms officiating. Burial services will follow at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis at 11 a.m.

Romaine Jean (Neuheisel) Reiser, 79
January 11, 1937 - June 5, 2016

Funeral Mass for Romaine Jean Reiser was held June 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.

Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston was in charge of arrangements.

Roamine was born January 11, 1937, to Joseph and Marjorie (Hohn) Neuheisel in Parkston. She attended school in Parkston and graduated from Parkston High School in 1955.

She was united in marriage to Burton Reiser September 5, 1955. They lived in Tripp, where she was the secretary at Northwestern Public Service. They moved to Mitchell and lived there for a short time before moving to Parkston in 1958. She worked as a receptionist for Brown Photography Studio and then Kaufman Optometry, as a bookkeeper for Statz Drug, as a teacher assistant and finally as a bookkeeper at Jim Behrend Accounting, then Schoenfish & Co., until retiring in 2002.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, was an active member and treasurer of the Parkston Historical Society, and was on the founding committee of the first Parkston All-School Reunion.

She died Sunday, June 5, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 79 years.

She is survived by her husband, Burt, Parkston; three children, Gregory (Ruth) Reiser, Parkston, Wayne (Colene) Reiser, Brookings, and Barbara (Bruce) Vogel, Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Valeria Schoenfelder, Mitchell, Mary Jo (Randy) Larson, Mitchell, and William Neuheisel and special friend, Sharon Mauler, Kearney, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cecelia Matilda (Moran) Hinckley, 85

Cecelia Matilda (Moran) Hinckley, 85, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center in Pierre. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Maryhouse Chapel, in Pierre. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill cemetery, in Blunt.

Cecelia was born to Emma and James Moran, Feb. 12, 1923, and grew up in the Geddes/Delmont/Armour area of South Dakota. In February 1944, she married Dwight Everett Hinckley and the couple farmed around Armour.

In 1955, the family moved to Blunt, where Cecelia continued to raise her own family as well as many other children in the community. Many adults will recall learning their alphabet and how to color from Grandma Hinckley at her daycare.

Cecelia loved to cook and spent many years working at the Chuckwagon Café. Gardening was one of Cecelia’s enjoyments and she was always willing to share the produce she grew; many a pie was baked from the apple tree in her back yard.

Her children remember her as someone who was always there when they needed her; a kind, caring person who put her family before all else.

Grateful for sharing her life were her eight children: Sandra Hinckley, James (Lauralea) Hinckley, of Blunt; Andrea (Neal) Spaid, of Blunt; Patricia (Butch) Dowling, of Belle Fourche; Pamela (Laurna) Davis, of Cookson, Okla.; Mark (JoAnne) Hinckley, of Marshall, Minn.; Tamera Garrity, Sioux Falls; and Michael Hinckley; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband, two children (Sandra and Michael), and one great-grandchild (DaShawn).

Lela Myers

RAPID CITY—Lela Myers, 98, Rapid City, passed away Sept. 1, 2001, at Fairmont Grand Manor.

Lela was born in Little Sioux, Iowa, to James and Cora (Heistand) Crockford. In 1906, the family moved and homesteaded near Reed, S.D. She went to grade school at a country school, graduated from Sturgis High School and attended Spearfish Normal School. She became a teacher and taught in Meade County for several years. Lela married Ray C. Myers on Nov. 19, 1927, and lived on a farm and ranch on Elk Creek for almost 40 years. They retired in 1964 and moved to Rapid City. Lela moved to Fairmont Grand Manor (assisted living) in August 1996.

She was a member of the Minneluzahan Senior Center for numerous years and a member of the First Congregational Church. She also belonged to an Extension Club on Elk Creek. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed studying the Bible, reading, crocheting and other crafts.

Survivors include a daughter, Florrie Johnson, Rapid City; two grandchildren, Ron Johnson and his wife, Sue, Caputa, and Gary Johnson and his wife, Susan, Gillette, Wyo.; five great-grandchildren, Corinna Warner and her husband Gary, New Castle, Del., Michelle Lammers and her husband Roger, Rapid City, Aaron Johnson, Rapid City, Tracy Johnson, Gillette, Wyo., and Chet Johnson, Sheridan, Wyo.; four great-great-grandchildren, Anthony and Gary Warner, New Castle, Austin and Adrianna Lammers, Rapid City; one brother, Joe Crockford and his wife, Enid, Vale; numerous nieces and nephews, and all the special people who work at Fairmont Grand Manor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on June 17, 1975; one infant grandson; two sisters, Myrtle McDaniels, Bremerton, Wash., and Hazel Richards, Sturgis; one brother, Arthur Crockford, Sturgis; and two half brothers, Eddie Philipsen, Sturgis, and Raymond Philipsen, Vale.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Behrens Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Ted Huffman officiating. Burial will be at Pine Lawn cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
