Shirley Howell Samuelsen

RAPID CITY — Shirley Samuelsen, 78, Rapid City, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley was born March 17, 1923, in Spokane, Washington, to Florence (Bierschbach) and James D. Howell, and graduated from high school in Hettinger, N.D. She married Jim Samuelsen on August 2, 1941, and began her lifelong "career" as a homemaker, volunteer and partner to Jim. After retiring, they spent winters fishing in Mexico and golfing in Arizona, summers visiting family and friends in Rapid City, and autumns hunting in the Chamberlain, S.D., area. Shirley was a great lover of literature, history, counted cross-stitch, travel and basketball. She was widowed in 1983 and lived in Westbrook Village, Peoria, Ariz., from then until 1999, when she returned to live in Rapid City.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Sally (Olson) Samuelsen (Rapid City, S.D.); daughter and son-in-law Jan (Ormesher) and Rich Elias (Cannon Falls, Minn.); daughter and son-in-law Jamie and Dan Kinsella (Bismarck, N.D.); grandchildren John C., James and Jacob Samuelsen and Scott Olson, Margaret and Catherine Ormesher, Kaitlin and Brian Kinsella; sister Bev Fossum (Everett, Wash.); brother and sister-in-law Jim and Marlene Howell (Golden Canyon, Ariz.); very special friends Ruth Samuelsen and Corinna; and family and many friends at Holiday Hills Estates and throughout her travels.

The family wishes to thank Interim Healthcare and Hospice of the Hills for tirelessly providing her gentle care.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; and son-in-law Tom Ormesher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2001, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Father Michel Mulloy as celebrant.

Interment will follow on Monday, October 29, 2001, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D., with the Reverend Ned Wick and Reverend Herb Cleveland.

Delbert T. Ellefson

SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. — Delbert T. Ellefson, 71, South St. Paul and formerly of Rapid City, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Roseville.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Concordia Lutheran Church in South St. Paul.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Mountain View cemetery in Rapid City.

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Laura E. Kirsch

FREEMAN — Laura E. Kirsch, 94, Freeman and formerly of White River, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Freeman Community Hospital.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Missionary Church in Freeman, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in White River School auditorium.

Burial will be at White River cemetery.

Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home of Parker is in charge of arrangements.

Bob Christman

Mass of Christian Burial for Robert “Bob” Christman, 47, of Mobridge, was held Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge.

Burial was at Black Hills National cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Bob passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Robert Allen “Bob” Christman, son of the late Rheiny and Kate (Gossman) Christman, was born July 14, 1964, in Mobridge. Bob was one of six brothers and five sisters.

Bob was his “own person” and “marched to the beat of his own drum.” He was often “plugged into” his own music, listening to the Twins, Broncos or his political oracle, Rush Limbaugh, while walking or riding his bike. His opinions were among his most prized possessions and he “owned them.”

If Bob was your friend, he was there for life. He was an avid reader, and often had a book on special order through A.H. Brown Library. He was a movie and music buff and food critic. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and rock and roll posters. He was the “King of Trivia.”

Upon graduating from Mobridge High School in 1982, he followed in the footsteps of his dad and brothers, Mike and “Bean” when he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed at Ft. Knox and Ft. Riley and served in Korea on the DMZ. His service record was recognized by receiving several achievement medals as well as being rated expert with the M-16 rifle and hand grenade.

Following the military Bob attended Northern State University in Aberdeen for one year and worked at Control Data. He also worked at Mott’s Aerial Spraying in Mobridge. Bob then shared his culinary skills working as a cook in Aberdeen, Spokane, Wash., on a fishing boat off Alaska, Mahto, Rick’s Café, the Mobridge Care Center and the Windjammer. Bob started working in the dietary department at Mobridge Regional Hospital in 2000 where he continued his employment until the time of his death. He was dedicated to his responsibilities and enjoyed preparing meals for the patients, Prairie Sunset Village residents and the staff.

He is survived by his brothers, Rick and Steve of Mobridge, and Jeff (Marlene) of Pollock; his sisters, Ginger (Bob Webb) Christman of Spokane, Diane Christman of Mobridge, Mary Leuning and Connie Larsen of Owatonna, Minn., and Nancy (Tom) Hepper of Wing, N.D.; sister-in-law, Judy Christman of Maryville, Tenn.; 14 nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Mike and David (Bean), and nephew, Randy Larsen.

Memorials can be made to the A.H. Brown Library Foundation.

Pamela Joan (Hohn) Brandriet, 60
October 16, 1955 - June 25, 2016

Funeral services for Pamela Joan Hohn Brandriet were held July 2 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown.

Burial followed in Parkston at the Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery, with Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Pamela Hohn, daughter of Virgil and Joan (Tischler) Hohn was born October 16, 1955, in Parkston. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Parkston High School and later from Mount Marty College with a degree in Social Work. She then furthered her education by obtaining a Masters of Education from SDSU. She worked for ATCO (known now as Human Service Agency) for four years. She was an instructor at Lake Area Technical Institute.

She was united in marriage to Marlo Brandriet August 9, 2013.

She died Saturday, June 25, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of 60 years.

She is survived by her husband, Marlo; her siblings, Scott (Robin) Hohn, Parkston, Mike (Judy) Hohn, Milton, Georgia, Kristin Ekstrum, Sioux Falls, and Jodee (John) Murphy, Chanhassen, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, Izzy, Elly and Abby Hohn, Westin, Kate and Brent Hohn, Evan and Emily Ekstrum, and Kendall and Carly Murphy; stepchildren, Eric (Kristyanna) Brandriet, Big Stone City, Sara (Jason) Bergan, Brandon, Tina (Adam) Stemwedel, Watertown; step-grandchildren, Braxton and Graham Brandriet, Lillian Bergan, Madi and Max Stemwedel; and numerous relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Dan and Lucy Brandriet; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

ONA CHRISTENSEN
December 4, 1931 - May 25, 2013

RAPID CITY - Ona J. Christensen, 81, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at her home.

Ona was born on December 4, 1931 at Colton, to Theander and Ellen S. (Almie) Bunde. She grew up in Lane and was active in 4-H. She graduated from Lane High School and went on to Augustana to become a teacher. She taught in country schools in near Badger.

In May, 1954, Ona married Herbert Christensen in Badger. Herbert had two previous children with his late wife. The family moved to Rapid City in 1955. Ona taught at Big Bend Country School on Rimrock Highway.

Ona also worked on the electrical assembly line for MPI/SCI. She worked her way up to a Quality Assurance position and retired in 1985.

Her hobbies included sewing, making quilts, crocheting, and walking. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and being very open-minded.

Survivors include five children: Betty (Emil) Valdez, Colorado Springs, CO; Keith (Mary) Christensen, Manitowoc, WI; Mark (Tracy) Christensen, Neenah, WI; Sonya Christensen, Rapid City and Steve Christensen, Piedmont; two grandchildren, Doug and Yvonne; two great grandchildren, Ashton and Anthony; and two great-great granddaughters.

Ona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herbert in 2008, a son, Larry in 1990 and sister, Maxine Miller.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis at 3:00 p.m. A procession will leave the funeral home at 2:15 p.m.

Timothy Robert Heisinger, 65
October 19, 1951 - April 10, 2017

Memorials services for Timothy Heisinger were held April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at SSs Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Dimock. Visitation was April 12 at SS Peter and Paul Parish Hall. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.

Timothy Robert Heisinger was born October 19, 1951, in Parkston, to Robert and Betty (Bowar) Heisinger. He attended Catholic School in Dimock and graduated from Parkston High School in 1969. After graduation, he worked for J&B Construction as a carpenter. Tim married Judy Klunder August 22, 1970, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock and made their home in Dimock. Tim owned and operated with Jim Sudbeck S&H Construction for a time and then drove truck for Jensen Trucking for 11 years. Tim later worked for Ethan Coop Lumber for 14 years, until his retirement in 2010.

Tim enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, playing softball and baseball, and best of all, his grandchildren. Every Saturday morning, he would pick up donuts and chocolate milk and visit each of his grandchildren and never missed a Saturday.

Tim died April 10 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston at the age of 65.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Judy, Dimock; son Rob (Carrie) Heisinger, Parkston, and daughter Kris (Jeremy) Borgan, Dimock; four grandchildren, Morgan and Chase Heisinger and Hudson and Owen Borgan; brothers Terry (Gloria) Heisinger, Mitchell, and Tom (Dixie) Heisinger, Parkston; sisters Peg Johnson, Mitchell, Pam (Dan) Mechtenberg, Lincoln, Nebraska, Jan (Joe) Garry, Watertown, Connie (Dan) Boehmer, Dimock, and Cindy (Joel) Mayer, Parkston; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Patrick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.

Margaret Bloomberg, 79
April 14, 1929 - Feb. 4, 2009

Margaret Bloomberg, 79, died at home Feb. 4, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

Margaret was born April 14, 1929, in Alpena to William and Lydia Wahl. She graduated from Huron High School and was employed for 22 years with the U.S. Geological Survey in Huron and Denver, Colo., where she retired in 1988. In 1974, she was the first woman elected to the Huron City Commission.

She is remembered as a loving mother by her sons, Michael and Jeffry (Deonne), and is survived by her sister, Beverly Mycue, Tulsa, Okla., and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

A memorial service will be held April 14, 2009, in Alpena.

Shirley Janet (Roth) Hammil, 80
May 9, 1936 - April 2, 2017

A Celebration of Life service for Shirley Hammil will be held Saturday, April 22, at 3 p.m. at Church of the Savior, 5600 NW 63rd Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Memorial donations may be given to Church of the Savior or the American Diabetes Association in her honor.

Shirley was born May 9, 1936, on a farm in rural Freeman, to Leo M. and Elda M. Roth. She attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, where she met and married John (Jack) Max Hammil and graduated from Central Washington State University with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1969, she and her family relocated to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she resided until her death.

Shirley taught and directed the preschool programs at the YWCA and the YMCA for over 22 years. Along the way, she wrote and implemented a preschool curriculum for teachers. After retiring from the YMCA, she performed puppet shows for years that entertained young children thoughout Oklahoma City. Shirley attended Church of the Savior, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served as an Elder. Her hobbies included RVing, square dancing, drawing and painting.

Shirley passed away April 2.

Shirley was preceeded in death by her husband, Jack, and leaves a son, J.D. Hammil, his wife Beth, and grandsons Bradley and Zachary, Frisco, Texas. She also leaves a son, Jim Hammil, his wife Jane, and grandsons Jacob and Joshua Wichita, Kansas, and a sister, Janis Leischner, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Violette A Spencer
Nov 18 1923 - Apr 27 2010

Violette A. Spencer 86 formerly of Faith passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the West River Health Services in Hettinger, ND.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 2, 2010 from Noon until 5:00pm at the Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, and two hours before the service in Faith. A funeral service will be 2:00pm Monday, May 3, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Faith, with Rev. Lin Jennewein officiating. The family extends an invitation to join them for a noon lunch on Monday at the church before the funeral. Interment will follow at the Faith cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters Carroll & Edward Texley of Hettinger, Connie & Ray Reiker of Thunderhawk, SD, sister Reva Cooper of Spearfish, 3 grandchildren Trent Texley, Eric Martens, Jackie Heier, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Her husband Melvin, son Melvin Jr., daughter Catherine, brother Charles Cooper, parents Ray & Anna (Tischler) Copper, sister Ruth Samuelson, preceded her in death.

Duane Lynn Lindeman, 69
July 7, 1947 - April 12, 2017

Funeral services for Duane Lindeman were held April 17 at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston. Burial was in Protestant South cemetery in Parkston. Arrangements were by Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.

Duane Lynn Lindeman was born July 7, 1947, in Parkston, to Art and Lucille (Leischner) Lindeman. He graduated from Parkston High School in 1965. After graduation, he farmed the family farm and married Mary Hafner August 9, 1968. They farmed south of Parkston his entire life.

He worked at Corsica Livestock and Mitchell Livestock and later became a partner/owner of Mitchell Livestock until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Salem UCC Church all his life, serving in various positions.

He died April 12 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls at the age of 69.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, Parkston; children, Kimberly (Chris) Max, Mitchell, Daren (Lisa) Lindeman, Parkston, and Amy (Benn) Richards, Delafield, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Carter Max, Carson Max, Camen Max, Sadie Lindeman, Grace Lindeman, Tori Lindeman, Aidan Richards, Hope Richards, Ivey Richards and Aaron Richards; aunt, Dee Brunken, Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn; parents; brother Doug; brothers-in-law Peter Hafner, John Hafner and Maurice Peterson.
