WINTERHAVEN, Calif. - Jerrold Muehl, 68, Winterhaven and formerly of Rapid City and Chamberlain, S.D., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in Yuma, Ariz.

Survivors include Bernard Muehl, Sonoma, Calif.; Shirley Gilreath, Rapid City; and Curtis Muehl, Brisbane, Calif.

He served in the Korean War.

Peter Rolando-Zucco

RAPID CITY -- Peter Rolando-Zucco, 92, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Westhills Village Health Care Unit in Rapid City.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Rolando-Zucco of Rapid City.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Larry Hill

RAPID CITY -- Larry Hill, 44, Rapid City, died Monday, November 5, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Larry was born on July 23, 1957, to Robert and Alice (Smith) Hill in Valentine, Neb.

He lived on a farm in the Kilgore area during his youth.

He married Teresa Trenary on April 5, 1986, in Rapid City, S.D.

He attended Valentine High School and graduated in 1975. He attended North Platte College for two years for building construction. He then attended NCB for agricultural business.

He was a very hard worker. He co-established Grimm's Dust Control, with Keith Grimm, recently employed with Servall Uniform and Linen Supply, and he owned and operated Budget Carpet Cleaning.

He was a very strong family man. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed basketball and the Cornhuskers.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Hill of Rapid City; one son, Benjamin Hill of Rapid City, S.D.; his parents, Robert and Alice Hill of Valentine, Neb.; two brothers, Edward Hill and his wife, Marilyn, of Kilgore, Neb., and Wes Hill and his wife, Shelley, of Kilgore, Neb.; one sister, Joy Osborne and her husband, Dale, of Maxwell, Neb.; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and James Trenary of Rapid City, S.D. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Lyle and Danita Konst of Rapid City, S.D., and Kelly Trenary of Rapid City, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Kevin Dykstra of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and sister Kathy.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 7, 2001, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Behrens Funeral Home and for one hour prior to services.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 8, 2001, at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church, with Pastor Bob Cole and Kelly Trenary officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Benjamin.

Roxene Ann Marie Joneson

RAPID CITY -- Roxene Ann Marie Joneson, 43, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Joneson, Rapid City; two sons, Michael Joneson and Brooks Joneson, both of Rapid City; and her father, Donald Thaden, Huron.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Helen M. Graham McNally

NEW UNDERWOOD -- Helen M. Graham McNally, 78, New Underwood, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Graham, Sacramento, Calif., and Michael Graham, Black Hawk; two daughters, Linda Miller, Henderson, Nev., and Karen Graham, Hopkins, Minn.; two sisters, Nadine Retzlaff, Clinton, Neb., and Charlotte Fankhauser, Chadron, Neb.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Arlene Bush
September 17, 1934 - September 21, 2014

Rapid City – Arlene J. Bush, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 21, 2014 surrounded by her family at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

She was born in Sturgis, SD on September 17, 1934 to Eugene and Sarah [Young] Johnson. Following her birth she was raised by Earl and Grace Johnson in Rapid City, SD. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1952. She married Robert Bush in Santa Ana, CA on September 13, 1952. Her husband Bob was in the U.S. Marine Corps and stationed in Santa Ana at that time. They moved back to Rapid City after Bob’s discharge in 1953. In 1963 she began working for the Rapid City Public Schools. Arlene worked for 24 years as a secretary at Grandview School and South Junior High School, and then retired in 1987.

Bob and Arlene built a retirement home in the Black Hills living near the Rochford Road a mile west of Trout Haven. This was near heaven for Arlene as she enjoyed birding, wildlife, scenery, peaceful solitude, and good neighbors.

Arlene was active in the following organizations: PTA, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Little League Baseball, Rapid City Fire Fighter’s Auxiliary, Deacon of First Presbyterian and Big Bend Presbyterian Church, Hospice Volunteer, member of Canyon Lake and Minneluzahan Senior Centers, fire fighter with Silver City Volunteer Fire Department, member of Big Bend Presbyterian Church, choir member, member of ladies church circle group, and also a member of the Black Hills Running Club.

Arlene enjoyed LIFE and LIVED it to the fullest. SHE was a friend to all.

Survivors include her husband: Robert G. Bush of Westhills Village in Rapid City; one daughter: Cheryl Halvorson [Tom] of Overland Park, KS; one son: Robert Bush [Jeannie] of LaCrosse, WI; four grandchildren: Adam Bush [Maran] of Corcoran, MN, Alicia Brzezinski [Curt] of Big Lake, MN, Lauren Halvorson [fiancée Nathan Lane] of Prairie Village, KS, and Kendra Robbins [Spencer] of Olathe, KS; and two great-grandchildren: Hailey Bush of Corcoran, MN and Dylan Brzezinski of Big Lake, MN, and one sister: Helen Bloom of Platteville, WI

She was preceded in death by her parents, guardians, and two brothers: Delbert Johnson and Doug Johnson.

Visitation will be 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, September 25 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1012 Soo San Drive followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 am with Rev. Bob Savot officiating.

Burial of cremains will take place at 2:30 pm at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute or Rapid City American Heart Association or Big Bend Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are being directed by Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Calvin Sidney Champion
March 3, 1937 - May 25, 2011

Calvin S. Champion, 74, of Rapid City, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Fort Meade V.A. Medical Center, SD.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1979. Cal was a Vietnam era helicopter pilot who earned two Distinguished Flying crosses as well as numerous other awards and decorations. He was retired from active duty after 20 years of honorable service.

After his retirement, Cal served his community as the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps League in the Rapid City area as well as serving as a volunteer firefighter in the Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his sister, Mildred Black of Alameda, California; nieces Sharon Linde, Custer, SD and Marie Hindman, AZ; nephews Edward Champion of Rapid City, SD and Robert Champion, Montana. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Red” Champion of Rapid City.

Services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 28 at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, SD. Military honors will be provided by the Marine Corps League, with inurnment to follow.

DENNIS SNYDER
October 17, 1927 - September 21, 2014

PIEDMONT - Dennis C. Snyder, 86, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Sturgis Regional Hospital after spending seven years at Sturgis Regional Senior Unit Massa.

Dennis was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Athol, SD, to Glenn and Florence Snyder. He lived in the Athol area until his early teens when the family moved to Black Hawk, SD.

Dennis married Hernrietta Ringlbauer on March 1, 1947. They had three children, Glenna (Terry) Weber, Black Hawk, Kay (Bill) Boblett, Rapid City, and Joseph Snyder, Sioux Falls. Dennis and Henrietta also raised their two nephews, Paul Donald Sowers, Wheatland, WY, and Dale Sowers, Florida. They were married for 42-years until her death in 1989. He later married M Arlene Carter in 1993.

Dennis worked road construction for many years building South Dakota highways. He later worked over-the-road trucking as an independent truck driver. In the late 70's, he helped to establish the South Dakota Independent Truckers Association and served as one of the presidents. His term of president was during the truckers strike and he was very active in communications between the trucking industry and state and federal governments. He was also one of the members who started the West River Independent Trucking Company (WRITS) and worked in that business until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Carter Snyder, Piedmont; his son, Joe Snyder, Sioux Falls; two daughters, Kay (Bill) Boblett, Rapid City, and Glenna (Terry) Weber, Black Hawk; stepsons, Milton (Nancy) Carter, Wickhambury, AZ, Tom (Debbie) Carter and Bryan (Kelly) Carter, all of Piedmont; brother, Fred (Joan) Snyder, California; sister Joan (Jim) Goodart Rapid City; 14 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Henrietta Snyder; brothers, John, Don and Robert; sisters, Edna Wright, Doris Curns, Maxine Bull, and Joyce Furstnaugh; and stepson, Bill Carter.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brent Woodard officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

Ralph Churchill
July 3, 1919 - September 21, 2014

Fairburn – Ralph Churchill, 95, died at his home in Fairburn on Sunday, September 21, 2014.

Ralph “Jr.” Churchill was born July 3, 1919 at the Strater home south of Hermosa, SD to Ralph Hart and Olive Kimball Churchill.

He attended elementary school at Urban (south of Hermosa), Fairburn, and Hermosa. He also completed almost two years of high school at Hermosa.

Jr. worked for Summit Construction at the gravel pit south of Hermosa while the highway from Hermosa to Custer State Park was being built. In 1937 he started working for his Dad as a section worker on the railroad. Beginning in 1941 he worked at the Rapid City Air Base (now Ellsworth Air Force Base) as a sheet metal worker and later worked in the propeller repair department. In 1945 he and his brother, Jack, bought Ted Zecchin’s truck and began trucking locally. When Jack was drafted they sold the truck and Jr. went to work as a ranch hand for Eva Stenger. Following that he spent a year near Wilbaux, Montana doing ranch work with Mote Brickley. He then returned to Hermosa and worked for Western Cattle Company at the Stenger Ranch, the Hart Ranch, and also the Battle Creek Ranch where Keith Robertson was foreman. Great memories, wild tales, and lifelong friendships resulted. It gave him great joy reminiscing about those days.

Jr. married Bernice Hedlun on January 25, 1958. They bought a ranch near Fairburn in 1961 and remain there today. They were blessed with three children: Robin, Connie, and Clyde.

He was a past member of the Hermosa Rifle Club, the Hermosa Roping Club, and an active 46 year member of the Fairburn Odd Fellow Lodge #235.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; daughters, Robin Gorsuch, and Connie (Mell) Steen; seven grandchildren, Kane (Amber) Steen, Matt (Jamie) Steen, Chelsea Steen, Ryan (Elena) Gorsuch, Sarah Gorsuch, Adriel Gorsuch, Kayla (Bobbie) Spencer; four great grandchildren, Ella, Dexter, and Brixton Steen, and Dmitrii Gorsuch. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack, son Clyde, and grandson Jonathan Gorsuch.

Visitation will be Friday, September 26, 5 – 7 pm, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City.

Funeral services are Saturday, September 27, at 10 am, at the Fairburn Civic Center with burial to follow at the Fairburn cemetery.

Dorothy Schlomer

Funeral services for Dorothy Schlomer, 79, of Glenham, were held Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge.

Burial was at the Glenham cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Dorothy passed away from cancer on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Dorothy Inez (Haar) Schlomer was born Sept. 30, 1931, to Erhard and Anna (Hofer) Haar in Roscoe. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roscoe. In 1950 she graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge. She attended Northern State College and taught at the Franklin Country School one year and two years at the Rabenberg School.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, 1953, she married Victor Schlomer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They made their home in Glenham and were members of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church.

After raising four daughters, Dorothy received her four-year teaching degree at Northern State College in 1972. She taught school three years in Mound City and 19 years in Wakpala, retiring from teaching in 1991.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, canning, making quilts and crocheting. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her coffee friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Victor; four daughters, Vicky (Richard) Allerdings of Gillette, Wyo., Jeri (Jim) Richards of Aberdeen, Tina (Don) Pearce of Orlando, Fla., and Juli (Curt) Phelps of Peru, Ind.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Weig of Aberdeen; three brothers, Gilbert Haar of Watertown, Armond Haar of Aberdeen and Arnie Haar of Rapid City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.
