Evelyn Louvenia Evans

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Evelyn Louvenia Evans, 80, Anchorage and formerly of Rapid City, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in Anchorage.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Fox, Houston, Judy Carson, Rapid City, and Mary Cotten, Anchorage; one son, James Evans, Anchorage; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Viola Margaret Zeller Dewald

RAPID CITY — Viola Margaret (Zeller) Dewald, 86, Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday, September 6, 2001, at an assisted-living home.

She was born on March 26, 1915, to William and Elizabeth (Hartz) Zeller. She was raised on the family homestead in rural Dixon, S.D., in Gregory County, and attended grade school in rural Pocahontas School. She graduated from Gregory High School in 1933, and Greene's School of Cosmetology in 1941.

She was employed as a beautician in numerous areas.

She married Ruprecht Dewald on Sept. 28, 1947, in Rapid City.

She lived in Dixon until 1940, moved to Lemmon from 1941 to 1943, and Gregory 1945 to 1945, when she moved with the family to Rapid City.

She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) and a life member of the Extension Club of Dixon.

She was very active in L.W.M.L. of the church; also Sunday School and Vacation Bible School — a member of the Circles and Ladies Aide of the church.

She enjoyed flowers, sewing — needlecrafts, baking and homemaking.

She is survived by two sons, Norman Dewald of Rapid City, and Richard Dewald of River Vale, N.J.; one brother, Reuben Zeller of Gregory, S.D.; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas Dewald.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruprecht; her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Raymond; and two sisters, Lillian and Esther.

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Behrens Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, with Vicar Tom Beaverson officiating.

Burial will be at the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Vivien C. Pritchard

UNION CENTER — Vivien C. Pritchard, 44, Union Center, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Sturgis Community Health Care Center.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Pritchard, Union Center; her father, Carl Wahl, Union Center; her mother, Ursula Sharp, Yelm, Wash.; four sons, Travis Brink and Ryan Brink, both of Rapid City, Matthew Brink, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Nathan Brink, Union Center; one brother, Carl Wahl Jr., Rapid City; two sisters, Candace Cummings, Sturgis, and Elizabeth Custis, McCleary, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Closed-casket visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, with the Rev. Harold Delbridge officiating.

Burial will follow at Bear Butte cemetery in Sturgis.

Clar Marie Husband

PHILIP — Mass of Christian Burial for Clar Marie Husband, age 86, of Philip, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Tony Grossenburg officiating.

Clar Marie died early Friday morning at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a vigil service scheduled for 7 p.m.

Interment will be in the Masonic cemetery in Philip.

A memorial is established to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Philip.

Clar Marie Hughes was born April 7, 1915, on a ranch near Kadoka, S.D., the daughter of John "Jack" J.A. and Rose (Post) Hughes. She grew up on the ranch west of Kadoka and attended grade and high school in Kadoka. After graduation, she attended college at Madison, S.D., for one year.

Clar Marie was united in marriage to Max Husband on May 10, 1937, in Kadoka.

Together they owned and operated bakeries in DeSmet, S.D., Sydney, Neb., and Philip, S.D., until 1953. They then opened Husband's Variety Store, which they owned and operated until selling it to their son Tom in 1976.

Clar Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society, and was active in the church choir for many years. She was a member of many of Philip's clubs and organizations and enjoyed writing, oil painting and needlework.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Tom Husband and his wife, Karen, of Philip; two daughters, Joel Marie Peterson and her husband, Gary, of Faith, S.D., and Kathleen Ann Emerson and her husband, Greg, of Cody, Wyo.; a daughter-in-law, Connie Husband, of Belle Fourche, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one nephew; three nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Clar Marie was preceded in death by her husband Max on Oct. 19, 1977; her son William "Bill" Husband on January 29, 2001; a great-grandson, Mason Peterson; her parents; a brother, Harold Hughes; and a sister, Faye Moore.

Arrangements are with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Philip.

Agnes L. Masur, 91

Agnes L. Masur, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Platte Health Center in Platte. Services are being held today, Feb. 2, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Geddes with burial in the St. Ann’s Catholic cemetery.

Agnes was born on April 18, 1917, in Platte, to Jacob and Margaret (Travis) Steffens. She attended country school, Platte High School, and graduated from Geddes High School in 1936. She was an operator for the Northwestern Bell Telephone for many years.

On May 3, 1939, she married Ignatius Masur in Geddes. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She became a resident of the Platte Nursing Home on Sept. 11, 2008.

Agnes is survived by 10 children: Beverly (Lyle) Walker of Eureka, Calif.; Eileen (David) Walker of Carmichael, Calif.; Carmen (Dennis) DeGraff of Buena Vista, Va.; David (Cleo) of Clearlake, Calif.; Thomas (Marcene) of Geddes; Colleen “Rete” (Richard) Slaba of Geddes; Tony of Coer d’Alene, Idaho; Cindy (Kenneth) Jaeger of Harrold; Kathy (Joe) Togethoff of Platte; and Mark (Jeanne) of David City, Neb. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Mushitz of Rapid City, and Gertrude Steffens of Geddes; and sister-in-law Marcene Steffens of Humansville, Mo.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, parents, an infant son, Dennis, three granddaughters, three brothers, a sister, a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

Merle Winfred Caudle
Born: May 6, 1926
Death: June 10, 2011

Merle W. Caudle, 85 of Sturgis, passed away June 10, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Private inurnment will be held at the Black Hills National cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Merle’s name to the South Dakota Elks Trust Lodge #508.

Joshua Caleb Crouch
February 21, 1982 - September 5, 2011

Spearfish - Joshua Caleb Crouch, 29, Spearfish, died Monday, September 5, 2011.

A Celebration of Life service will be at noon on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Countryside Church in Spearfish (625 Woodland Dr.). Private family/friend inurnment will be held at a later time.

Josh was born to Mark & Pat Crouch in Sellersville, PA on February 21, 1982. While he was growing up, Josh and his family also lived in Sheridan, WY, and Spearfish. He graduated from Job Corp in Salt City Lake, Utah. Josh joined the Navy in 1999, and then lived in Albuquerque, NM for a time after his discharge, until he returned to Spearfish where he met and fell in love with the sunshine of his life, Sarah Hasson. Josh & Sarah were united in marriage on June 2, 2007. Josh & Sarah lived in WY, MT & WA until moving back “home” to Spearfish so Sarah could be close to family & friends while Josh lived out a dream working as a fisherman in Alaska for long months at a time. Most recently Josh worked as a tour guide in the Black Hills he loved where, as it was with everyone who met him, he brought a smile to many faces.

Josh is survived by his wife, Sarah, of Spearfish; Sarah’s parents, Pat & Carol Hasson of Spearfish; and her brothers, Jon & Erich Hasson of Spearfish; his mom, Pat Kimmel of Gillette, WY; his dad, Mark (Cathy) Crouch of Deer Lodge, MT; sisters, Jennifer (Jerry) Donahoo of Gillette, WY and Jordan (Jeremiah) Cobb of Wright, WY; and brother, Jeremy (Rochelle Kugler) Crouch of Gillette, WY; nephews Brayden (Arel Hungerford), Zach, and Austin Donahoo of Gillette, WY; Corbin & Caleb Cobb of Wright, WY; and Gavyn & Mikel Kugler of Gillette, WY; nieces Tori Crouch of Wright, WY; Lylee Crouch of Gillette, WY; Jada Kugler of Gillette, WY; and Aliyah Donahoo of Gillette, WY; and uncle, Joe Crouch of Deer Lodge, MT.

Daniel W. Benventano
November 28, 1952 - September 13, 2011

Keystone - Daniel W. Benventano, 58, of Keystone and formally of Denver, Colorado, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Tueday, September 13, 2011.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Julie (Ben) Mamrot, Keystone, South Dakota and a uncle, Sonny Beaver, Newell, South Dakota.

Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Keystone United Church of Christ with Pastor Chuck Landon officiating.

Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Burt L. Caranna
September 2, 1960 - September 21, 2011

Sturgis – Burt L. Caranna, 51, of Sturgis, South Dakota, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include his mother, Louise Caranna, Dunedin, Florida; two sisters, Michelle Caranna, Dunedin, Florida, and Kenwyn Caranna, Belews Creek, North Carolina; three uncles; four aunts; several cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Leonard J. Caranna.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 22 at Black Hills Funeral Home 1440 Junction Ave. in Sturgis.

Florence A. Enderby
November 29, 1924 - September 23, 2011

Sturgis – Florence A. Enderby, 86 of Sturgis, died September 23, 2011 at Spearfish Regional Health Care in Spearfish.

She was born November 29, 1924 in Austin, Minnesota to Dick and Elizabeth (Krentz) Oldenburg. She was united in marriage to William “Blackie” Enderby April 7, 1945 in Austin, Minnesota. Shortly after they were married , they returned to “Blackies” home town of Lead, SD, where they made their home until 1971, when they moved to Sturgis. For many years Florence worked for the F.L. Thorpe Company in Deadwood. Florence enjoyed her retirement, family and friends. She was very active with her church, playing her Lowery organ, line dancing and several different craft projects. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Thrift Shop and working the annual motorcycle rally, both in Sturgis.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane (Larry) Hayden, New Boston, Texas; a son, Danny Enderby, Keystone, South Dakota; a sisters, Elaine Martell Golden, Colorado and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Enderby; her parents; an infant boy, Larry Dean Enderby and a sister, Bernice Krokus.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Black Hills Funeral Home, 1440 Junction Avenue in Sturgis.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran church, 2109 Baldwin Street in Sturgis with Rev. Lloyd Lemke officiating.

A private family burial will take place at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Craig L. Appleby
December 16, 1960 - September 22, 2011

Sturgis – Craig L. Appleby, 50 of Sturgis, died September 22, 2011 at his residence.

He served in the U.S. Marines.

Survivors include his mother, Eleanor Appleby Doran, Harwich Port, Massachusetts; three sons, Robert Appleby Holmes, California and Parker Appleby, North Carolina; a daughter, Victoria Appleby, California and three sisters, Diane Holmes, California, Hollis Stevens, South Weymouth, Massachusetts and Robin Shaw, Harwich Port, Massachusetts.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7 2011 at Dockett Funeral Home in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8 at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Sudbury with Rev. Barbara Williamson officiating.

A private family burial will take place at the New Town cemetery in Sudbury.
