Lucile M. Schofield

CHAMBERLAIN - Lucile M. Schofield, 92, Chamberlain and formerly of Midland, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Sunset Valley Haven in Chamberlain.

Survivors include one son, Allen Schofield, Chamberlain; two daughters, Gloria Hansen, Chamberlain, and Linda Snook, Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred McFarling, Pierre.

Her husband, Clarence H. Schofield, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and for one hour before services Saturday, May 25, at Open Bible Standard Church in Midland.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Dan Carlson officiating.

Burial will be at Midland cemetery.

Robert K. Rohla

CARTER - Robert K. Rohla, 96, Carter, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Rohla, Carter; one daughter, Eleanor Shimek, Gering, Neb.; two sons, Robert Rohla, Presho, and Edward Rohla, Carter; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held before services, which will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.

Burial will be at Winner cemetery.

Marie F. Salathe

RAPID CITY - Marie F. Salathe, 89, Rapid City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Wednesday, May 22, 2002.

She was born Jan. 8, 1913, at Blunt, S.D., the daughter of Martin and Petra (Olson) Sorensen. She grew up in the Blunt area and married Harold Salathe at Blunt on Nov. 14, 1949. They moved to Rapid City in 1955 and she has been a resident since that time.

Survivors include two sons, Norman Bloom, Tucson, Ariz., and his children, Sheila, Cathy, Vickie, Teresa and Todd, and Maynard Bloom, Pierre, S.D., and his children, Stephen, Sylvia and Shelley; a daughter, Valerie O'Connor and her husband Mike, Rapid City, and their children, Shauna and Tara; a sister, Hazel Ludwig, Onida, S.D.; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1991.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until service time at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home, with Rev. Timothy Coats officiating.

Interment will be at the Pine Lawn cemetery.

Viola F. Perreault

SMITHWICK - Viola F. Perreault, 90, Smithwick, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy Perreault, Sioux Falls, and Albert Perreault, Fredricksburg, Va.; two daughters, Mary Jines, Fairborn, Ohio, and Barbara Bogner, Smithwick; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen cemetery in Hot Springs.

Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Helena Eisenbraun

CASPER, Wyo. - Helena Eisenbraun, 92, Casper and formerly of Rapid City and Wall, S.D., died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at her son's home in Casper.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Eisenbraun, Casper; four sons, Julius Eisenbraun, Mitchell, S.D., Herman Eisenbraun, St. Onge, S.D., John Eisenbraun, Casper, and Aaron Eisenbraun, Rapid City; two brothers, John Schweigert, Tucson, Ariz., and Adolph Schweigert, Dallas, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Mary Bettcher Horst

HOT SPRINGS - Mary Bettcher Horst, 97, of Hot Springs, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs, with Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating.

Burial will follow at the Evergreen cemetery.

Mary was born at Menno, South Dakota, March 20, 1905, to Adam and Amelia Hieb. She moved to the Herrick, South Dakota, area as a child and grew up in that area. Mary was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Lutheran Church. She worked out as a hired girl and helped on the farm, and also helped raise her younger sister and brothers.

Mary married John Bettcher June 24, 1931. They lived outside of Carter, South Dakota, for a few years before moving to a farm south of Gregory, South Dakota. To this union three children were born, Delores, Calvin and Bernice.

In 1953, they moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota. Mary worked at the Base Drug Store and the Dites Drug Store until 1970, when she fell and broke her hip.

Mary married Karl Horst in November of 1971 and lived on their farm outside of Plainview, Nebraska. Karl and Mary did a lot of traveling in their lifetime and enjoyed watching the crops grow.

Mary moved to Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs, South Dakota, in July of 2002.

Mary had a special way of reaching out to people with her wonderful personality and beautiful smile. To know Mary was to love her.

Pallbearers for Mary's funeral are her seven grandchildren, Tad Raterman of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Marlea Judd of Rochester, Minn.; Michael Raterman of Riverside, Calif.; and David Landers, Daniel Landers, Kimberly Bilodeau and Alan Landers, all of Hot Springs, S.D.

Mary is survived by her husband, Karl Horst of Plainview, Neb.; daughters Delores Raterman (Ted) of Norfolk, Neb.; Bernice Landers (Ralph) of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Erna Bird of Redlands, Calif.; three stepchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Bettcher; son Calvin; four sisters, Martha Gribble, Ida Rock, Pauline Dewald and Vena Kautz; and four brothers, William Hieb, Herman Hieb, Henry Hieb and Albert Hieb.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs.

Bernice Goodsell Mills

WINNER - Bernice Goodsell Mills, 93, Winner, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Lona Loy, Winner, and Myrna McClary, Estevan, Saskatchewan; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, George Mills, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at United Methodist Church in Winner.

Burial will be at Winner cemetery.

B.B. 'Murph' Murphree

MOORCROFT, Wyo. - B.B. "Murph" Murphree, 74, Moorcroft, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie Murphree, Moorcroft; one son, William Rooney, Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Coyet Miller and Grace McCollough, both of Seminole, Texas, and Billie Mills, Amarillo, Texas; and five stepgrandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Sundance and for one hour before services Saturday, May 4, at Prairie View Baptist Church in Moorcroft.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Harold Holder and the Rev. Bob Smoot officiating.

Burial, with military honors by VFW Post 8473 and American Legion Post 25 of Moorcroft, will follow at Moorcroft cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Moorcroft Senior Citizens Center.

Alice B. Drabek

WALL - Alice B. Bork was born May 26, 1907, on her parents' homestead near the Stamford community, east of Belvidere, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Rada) Bork.

She grew up on the homestead and received her education in that area.

As a young lady, she worked on the homestead with her mother, brothers and sisters, and later she did domestic work in various places in South Dakota and Minnesota.

In the mid 1940s she returned to the Belvidere area, where she purchased some land which she and her mother operated along with her brothers.

Alice was united in marriage to Charles Drabek on October 3, 1950, in Pierre, South Dakota.

They owned and operated a ranch north of Belvidere all their married life.

After Charles' death on July 7, 1977, she continued to operate the farm-ranch until the fall of 1986, when she retired and moved to Wall to be near her daughter, son in-law and grandchildren.

In January 2002 she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood, where she had since resided.

Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter Jeannie Smith and her husband, Guy, of Wall; two grandchildren, Briana and Garr Smith, both of Wall; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Otto Bork; and three sisters, Stella Estes, Bertha Lynch and Florence Rittle.

Memorial services for Alice B. Drabek, age 94, of Wall and formerly of Belvidere, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at the First Lutheran Church in Wall, with Pastor Monty Dell officiating.

At her request, her body was donated to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion.

Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Marie Clair

PEORIA, Ariz. - Alice Marie Harnisch was born on July 12, 1935, in Wall, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Emma (Werning) Harnisch.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.

She attended the Lake Hill School and graduated from Wall High School in 1953. After graduation, she attended National School of Business in Rapid City.

Alice was employed with the Boeing Company for thirty-six and one-half years, retiring in May 1993.

She was united in marriage to Chet Clair on August 21, 1993, in Clinton, Washington.

After their retirement, they spent their winters at their home in Peoria and their summer months at their home on Whidbey Island, Washington.

She was very devoted to her home and family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowering and golfing.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chet; stepchildren, Darrell Clair and his wife Shelly, Cheryl Southwick and her husband Dale, and Debbie Wales and her husband Jim; six stepgrandchildren, Josiah, Laura and Michael Wales, Douglas and Audrey Clair, and Emily Southwick; mother-in-law Beatrice Clair of Forest, Mississippi; one brother, Melvin Harnisch of Wall; five sisters, Wilma Harnisch and Mildred Harnisch, both of Wall, Margaret Buckles and her husband John of Eugene, Oregon, Helen Slovek and her husband Earl of Philip, and Esther Hoefs and her husband Elry of Rapid City; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Harnisch of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five nephews; six nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mathilda Campbell; and one brother, Lenard Harnisch.

Memorial services for Alice Clair, age 66, of Peoria, Arizona, and formerly of Wall, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wall, with Vicar Monty Dell officiating.

Alice died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at the Hospice Center of the Valley in Peoria.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory to Hospice Centers or to a memorial of your choice.

Rush Funeral Chapel of Wall is in charge of arrangements.
