Pauline E. Red Star

WOUNDED KNEE - Pauline E. Red Star, 39, Wounded Knee, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Wolf Point, Mont.

Survivors include seven daughters, Laurel Menz, Tyra Scotts, Marianne Scotts, April Scotts, Nancy Scotts and Trisha Scotts, all of Poplar, Mont., and Sheila Lonz, Billings, Mont.; one son, Michael Menz, Poplar; her mother, Virginia Red Star, Poplar; her father, Paul Red Star Jr., Wounded Knee; three sisters, Patty Grant, Poplar, and Nancy Lonz and Josephine Red Star, both of Billings; and seven brothers, George Red Star, Wounded Knee, Samuel Red Star, Evans Red Star III, Delbert Red Star and Joseph Red Star, all of Poplar, and Levi Red Star, Wolf Point.

A two-night wake will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Messiah Episcopal Church in Wounded Knee.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 10, at the church, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl officiating.

Burial will be at Messiah Episcopal cemetery in Wounded Knee.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Joy Longden

DEADWOOD - Lois Joy Longden, 70, Deadwood, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Glen Longden, Deadwood; eight children, Gordie Longden, Rapid City, Bob Longden, Gillette, Wyo., Deon Longden, Monte Longden and Gregory Longden, all of Deadwood, Glenda Longden, Belle Fourche, Charlene Compton, Custer, and Melody Longden, Mohave, Utah; one brother, Clyde Cross, Indianapolis; two sisters, Pearl Mills, Indianapolis, and Amy Smith, Watertown; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Duane R. George

RAPID CITY - Duane R. George, 66, Rapid City, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include one daughter, Delores Ekroth, Rapid City; one son, Kenneth George, Rapid City; three sisters, Marilyn Dayton, Carolyn Vial and Katie Birkey, all of Iowa; one brother, Gordon George, Iowa; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mountain View cemetery in Rapid City.

Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

Lorena Korsmo

BELLE FOURCHE - Lorena Korsmo, 96, Belle Fourche and formerly of Hettinger, N.D., died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center.

Survivors include one son, Willard Korsmo, Reeder, N.D.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delwyn Rosenow, Hettinger, and Wilfred Rosenow, Eugene, Ore.; and two sisters, Hilda Wothe, North Bend, Wash., and Ella Klovdahl, Centralia, Wash.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, and for one hour before services Monday, June 10, at Hettinger Lutheran Church.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jerry Lee officiating.

Burial will be at Hettinger cemetery.

Bertha Ida Denke

CREIGHTON - Bertha Ida Denke, 89, Creighton, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura Olson, Summersville, Mo., and Marie Naescher, Wall; six grandchildren; and one brother, Jacob Geigle, Seattle.

Her husband, John Denke, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall, and for one hour before services Tuesday, June 11, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Creighton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Monty Dell officiating.

Burial will be at Wall cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Grace Paschke

WINNER - Grace Paschke, 77, Winner, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Avera Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Winner cemetery.

Clara H. Gross

ST. ONGE - Clara H. Gross, 77, St. Onge, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Survivors include one son, Steve Gross, Kennebunk, Maine; two daughters, Marie Cochrane, Clark Summit, Pa., and Alice Campbell, Lead; one sister, Loris Harrington, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Following her wishes, her body was cremated.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, at United Church of Christ in St. Onge, with the Rev. Buck Malone officiating.

Her family will scatter her remains in Vermont at a later date.

Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis is in charge of arrangements.

Thirsa J. 'Jeannette' Fitzner

ORAL - Thirsa J. "Jeannette" Fitzner, 75, Oral, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Fitzner, Oral; one son, Tim Fitzner, Oral; four daughters, Ruth Dahl, Hot Springs, Linda Iwanicki, Chicago, Joan Huelsen, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Shirley Slaughter, East Peoria, Ill.; one brother, Henry Howe, Rapid City; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Fairview cemetery in Oral, with the Rev. Dan Barcus officiating.

Ella E. Bahr

HOT SPRINGS - Ella E. Bahr was born on March 18, 1919, in Hot Springs, S.D. She passed peacefully on June 5, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Ella's parents, Fred and Bethel Rasmussen, farmed near Smithwick. Ella farmed with her husband, Ira B. Graves, near Oral until his death in 1953. She then moved to Hot Springs, where she met and married Volney P. Bahr in 1955.

Throughout her adult life, she lived in Oral; Hot Springs; Wind Cave National Park; Yellowstone National Park, Wyo.; Acadia National Park, Maine; Harpers Ferry National Park, West Virginia; Yellowtail National Park, Montana; Hyde Park National Park, New York; and then retired in Hot Springs, S.D., and Fortuna, Calif.

Ella held several jobs throughout her life, including cook at the VA Hospital; Nurse's Aide at Sisters Hospital in Hot Springs; kitchen manager at Gardiner, Mont.; instructor for Job Corps, School in Bar Harbor, Maine; along with a variety of other jobs.

Ella was an active member of the United Churches in Hot Springs and the Hot Springs Senior Center, serving two terms as Vice President. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, American Legion and Extension Homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Romey of Gardiner, Mont.; Iris Warren of Front Royal, Va.; three sons; Charles Bahr of Yorba Linda, Calif., David Bahr of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Larry Bahr of Napa, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Hot Springs United Churches, with Reverend Gary Warren officiating.

Private family services to follow at Fairview cemetery in Oral, S.D.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hot Springs United Churches or Hot Springs Senior Center.

Behrens Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Edyth June Cook

BELLE FOURCHE — Edyth June Cook, 73, Belle Fourche, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center.

Survivors include six children, Roy, Las Vegas, Delmont, Oregon, Robin, Washington, Margaret and Wesley, Belle Fourche, and Ruby, Vernon, British Columbia; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Nellie Fudge, Big Horn, Wyo.

As she wished, her body was cremated and no services will be held.

Kline-Frost Funeral Home of Belle Fourche is in charge of arrangements.

Randi Cadwell Hoffman

PIERRE — Randi Cadwell Hoffman, 58, Pierre, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard "Bud" Hoffman, Pierre; one son, Mark Hoffman, Hastings, Neb.; three daughters, Lynne Graham, Deatsville, Ala., Charlene Oscarson, Altadena, Calif., and Barbara Hoffman, Almond, Wis.; her mother, Geneva Cadwell, Pierre; seven grandchildren; one brother, Gary Cadwell, Chehalis, Wash.; and one half-sister, Imogene Leonardi, Ogden, Utah.

Her first husband, Charles Gage, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 16, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Pierre.

Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Pierre.

Marian Frances Dexter McDaniel

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. — Marian Frances Dexter McDaniel, 73, Newcastle, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Johnson and

Donna Perino, both of Newcastle; two sisters, Lucille Humes, Moorcroft, and twin Mary Sybrant, Douglas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Her husband, Floyd McDaniel, preceded her in death.

Visitation was held Friday, June 14, at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Worden Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Dutcher and the Rev. Bill Haley officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Newcastle.

Memorials may be made to Weston County Manor Activities.
