RAPID CITY - Gerald M. Gerdes, 69, Rapid City, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Gerdes, Rapid City; two daughters, Catherine J. Cain of Belton, Texas, and Kimberly Ann Lundgrin of Glenrock, Wyo.; and a sister, Esther Biggin, Rapid City.
Services are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Salvador J. Heiser
EUREKA - Salvador J. Heiser, 80, Eureka, died Monday, May 6,,2002, at Bowdle Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Eureka; one son, Larry Heiser of Aberdeen; one daughter, Robyn Svendsen of Rapid City; one brother, Willis Heiser of Aberdeen; two sisters, Marion Bertsch of Eureka and Dorothy Berreth of Aberdeen; and three granddaughters.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Carlsen Funeral Home in Eureka, and one hour before services at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eureka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at the church, with the Rev. Diane Rood-Kiesz officiating.
Burial will be at Eureka City cemetery with military graveside rites.
James W. Collins
RAINIER, Wash. - James W. Collins, 76, died Monday, May 6, 2002, in Rainier.
Jim was born on Dec. 15, 1925, in Athol, S.D., to Floyd and Laura (Reed) Collins. He married
Bernice (Lowell) in 1945. Jim served in the Navy in WWII. Most of his career was spent working construction in South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; his mother and father, Floyd and Laura; his sister, Joyce; his brother Reed; and an infant brother, John.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Gayle Galbraith and husband John of Eagle River, Alaska; daughter, Marilyn Lowe and husband Jerry of Rainier, Wash.; a son, David Collins and wife Teresa of Puyallup; a son, Andy Collins and wife Nanette of Milton; a daughter, Carrie Stringham and husband Brian of Puyallup; a daughter, Jennifer Orton and husband Andy of Rainier; grandchildren Lynn Perez, Matthew Galbraith, Heather Collins, Katie Collins, Brandon Collins, Jessica Lowe, and Grant Collins; and three great-grandchildren, Trenton Galbraith, Reece Perez and Kayli Galbraith.
His surviving brothers and sisters are Theola Anderson of Rapid City, Margorie Jennings of Oxnard, Calif., Gordon Collins of Hill City, S.D., and Bob Collins of Rapid City.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Fir Lane Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Fir Lane Memorial Chapel; graveside, Fir Lane Memorial Park.

Delbert P. Knowlen
RAPID CITY - Delbert P. Knowlen, 45, of Rapid City, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He is survived by two daughters, Monica Knowlen of Rugby, N.D., and Trish Kostelecky of Mandan, N.D.; four sons, Gary and Kyle Kostelecky of Mandan, Cliff Rameden of Rugby and Shane Kahl of Mandan; three brothers, Victor Sprenger of Rapid City, Hank Knowlen of Oregon and Lowell R. Knowlen Jr. of Montana; four sisters, Susie C.K.G.S. of South Dakota, Jeanie Walton of Georgia, Colleen Clooten of Oregon and Rebbecca Knowlen of Oregon; a significant other, Arlys Chays of Rapid City; and a dear friend, Janet Vaughan of Rapid City.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Behrens
Mortuary. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. today at Behrens Mortuary.
Anthony J. Nalley
PIEDMONT - Anthony J. Nalley, 21, of Piedmont, graduated to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the St. Paul's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Anthony was born September 29, 1980, in Spartanburg, S.C., to George W. and Melinda (Will) Nalley. He grew up in western South Dakota and was home-schooled for several years. He also attended Calvary Christian and Rapid City Christian schools. Anthony graduated in 1998 from Rapid City Christian High School, and he also graduated from LeTourneau University in Dallas, Texas, with a degree in computer science.
He loved to work on his computer and be with his friends. His family and friends will miss his dry wit.
Anthony is survived by his parents, George W. and Melinda Nalley, his sister, Bethany Nalley, and his brother, Wesley Nalley, all of Piedmont; his maternal grandparents, Martin and Betty Will, of Clyde, Ohio; his paternal grandparents, George and Christine Nalley of Marion, Ind.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
An all-night wake will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, at the Mother Butler Center, with Ron Foote and Adrian Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont cemetery in Piedmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
George "Fat Kat" Lewin
PIEDMONT - George "Fat Kat" Lewin, 62, Piedmont, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at home with the care of LMH Hospice of the Northern Hills.
George was born December 14, 1939, in Presque Isle, Maine, to Mike and Marie (Mosher) Lewin. He spent his childhood in Maine, working for a potato farmer, as a pulp wood cutter in a lumber camp in the Allagash, and as a truck driver in his teen-age years.
Later, George was a Master Hammerman at several Drop Forge Shops in Connecticut and spent many years as a long haul truck driver, covering all of the U.S. and Canada, and made several trips to Mexico. He also lived in New York City, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Iowa before coming to South Dakota in 1975, where he met and married
Loretta Crisman on February 28, 1977, at Piedmont, S.D.
The couple lived in Rapid Valley, Keystone, Provo, S.D., and spent three years in Texas before settling in Piedmont in 1983. After moving to South Dakota, George worked for Don Ward & Co., Pacer Corp., North American Car Co., Fisher Sand & Gravel, Stygles & Sons Construction, and Sweetman Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Lewin, Piedmont; stepson Dusty Crisman and his wife Tonya, and their children Ty, Erin and Lyn, all of Lusk, Wyo.; his mother, Marie Lewin, Presque Isle, Maine; his children, Chris, George, Lynn, Joy and Lorene, all of the East Coast area; two brothers and their wives, Mike and Rita Lewin, Chapman, Maine, and Cliff and Gwen Lewin, Freedom, Maine; three sisters, Marie Parks and her husband Steve, Westfield, Maine, Marion Peers and her husband Charles, Westfield, Maine, and Linda Argraves, Manchester, Conn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mike; a sister, Roberta Long; stepson, Rocky Crisman; and his mother and father-in-law, Bud and Olga Roberson.
In lieu of a memorial service, the family invites friends to join them for a time of remembering at the Piedmont Park on June 1, 2002, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
According to his wishes, he was cremated and the family will privately scatter his cremains. Arrangements are with Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Helen A. Glaeseman
RAPID CITY - Helen A. Glaeseman, 95, Rapid City, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Fairview Grand Manor Assisted Living Facility.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Cross, Susanville, Calif., and Elaine Burns, Rapid City; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Genevieve Will
WHITE RIVER - Genevieve Will, 92, White River, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg.
Visitation will be for one hour before services, which will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at United Methodist Church in White River.
Burial will be at White River cemetery.

Russell Eugene 'Rush' Renner
FORT SMITH, Mont. - Russell Eugene "Rush" Renner, 46, Fort Smith and formerly of Upton, Wyo., died Sunday, April 28, 2002.
Survivors include his parents, Tommie and Arliss Renner, Mills, Wyo.; one brother, Frank Renner, Mills; two sisters, Trisha Siemion, Fort Smith, and Darla Ellis, Rozet, Wyo.; and three children, Ariene Clark, Sheridan, Wyo., Emily Kelly, Kamiah, Idaho, and Evan Herron, Littleton, Colo.
Arrangements for a celebration of life are pending. The Renner family may be contacted as to the time and place of services.

PIERRE - Esther Bernel Huft, 74, Pierre, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Maryhouse Sub-Acute Center in Pierre.
Survivors include one son, David Huft, Pierre; one daughter, Michele Arends, Hills, Minn.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Touchstone, Long Beach, Calif., and Gloria Zombro, Las Vegas; and one brother, Fred Job, Ruidoso, N.M.
Her husband, David Huft, preceded her in death.

PRESHO - Barbara "Barb" Lynn Johnson Terca, 44, Presho, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Pierre.
Survivors include her husband, Stan Terca, Presho; one son, David Terca, Presho; one daughter, Kimberly Terca, Cambridge, Mass.; her parents, Gerald and Ruth Ann Johnson, Pierre; one brother, Gary Johnson, Fort Pierre; and one sister, Paula Barber, Onida.
Visitation will be from
4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, at First United Methodist Church in Presho. Burial will follow at Presho cemetery.

RAPID CITY - James F. Shoun, 66, Rapid City, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Shoun, Rapid City; four children, Vicki Bierman and Ken Shoun, both of Rapid City, Ezra Jacot, Provo, Utah, and David Jacot, Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Vicki Willsey, Apache Junction, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.

JoLynn A. Arapahoe
KYLE - JoLynn A. Arapahoe, 19, Kyle, and her unborn child died Thursday, May 2, 2002, in Pine Ridge.
Survivors include her special friend, Cody Grass, Manderson; her mother, Maureen Last Horse, Kyle; four sisters, Justina Arapahoe, Nevada, Mo., Charlotte Arapahoe, Porcupine, Maxine Broken Nose, Pine Ridge, and Madeline Two Lance, Scottsbluff, Neb.; five brothers, Mathew Brown Bull, Rapid City, Joseph Arapahoe, Sioux Falls, and Victor Arapahoe, Jacob Arapahoe and Webster Arapahoe, all of Kyle.
A two-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Hall in Kyle. The second night will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Allen CAP Office.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Allen CAP, with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl officiating.
Burial will be at Plenty Bears cemetery in Allen.
