Nicholas Boerger

RAPID CITY - Nicholas J. Boerger, 51, Rapid City, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, near Black Hawk.

Survivors include his wife, Christina Steele, Rapid City; his mother, Fleeta Boerger, Milbank; two brothers, Jim Boerger and Jerry Boerger, both of Milbank; and two sisters, Joan Berkner, Hill City, and Karen Quaid, Milbank.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Ralph A. Porter

EDGEMONT - Ralph A. Porter, 64, Edgemont, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Porter, Edgemont; one son, Robert Porter, Milwaukie, Ore.; three daughters, Teresa Garrets, Rapid City, Diane Bouma, Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Natalie Bouma, Santa Clara, Calif.; three brothers, Dick Porter, Bill Porter and Tom Porter, all of Edgemont; and eight grandchildren.

A rosary will be said at

6 p.m. Sunday, May 5, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service at St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, at the church, with the Rev. Peter Kovarik officiating.

Burial will follow at Edgemont Community cemetery.

Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel of Hot Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Maurice V. Anderson

RAPID CITY - Maurice V. Anderson, 83, Rapid City, formerly of Huron, S.D., died at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Fort Meade, S.D., on Thursday morning, May 2, 2002.

Maurice was born May 7, 1918, in Huron, S.D., to Albert M. and Ruth I. (Goethel) Anderson. He married Eleanor Kouf in Fort Dix, New Jersey, in 1942. He served our country in the Army 109th Engineer Battalion (Combat) during WWII in a number of locations in the U.S. and Europe, including Chartres, France. After the war, he owned Anderson Plumbing and Heating in Huron until 1966. He and his family moved to Rapid City, where he worked in the Housing Division at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of South Maple United Methodist Church, VFW and ODD Fellows. He was a Boy Scout Leader for several years and took part in the Mount Rushmore Pilgrimage. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor (Kouf) Anderson, Rapid City; two daughters, Juanita Schnabel (husband Raymond) from Morton, Ill., and Diane Byram (husband Lloyd) from Rapid City; two sons, Lannie Anderson (fiancee Marsha McCarthy) from Custer and Joel Anderson (wife Becky) from Black Hawk; one sister, Arlene Diede of Huron; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. His parents and two sisters (Vivian Ziegler and Ethelyn Nelson) preceded him in death.

Visitation will take place at the South Maple United Methodist Church in Rapid City on Sunday, May 5, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled for 7 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, May 6, at the South Maple United Methodist Church in Rapid City, to be preceded by a visitation scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Friends and family are invited to lunch at the church prior to the service at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be at the Black Hills National cemetery at Sturgis, S.D., at 3 p.m., to include military rites.

Memorials can be made to the South Maple United Methodist Church in Rapid City, S.D., and/or the Hospice Care Unit at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Fort Meade, S.D.

Briann Raenae Niedan

RAPID CITY - Briann Raenae Niedan, infant daughter of Brian Niedan and Rebecca Watters, both of Rapid City, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her parents and two grandparents, Arlene Allen, Rapid City, and Robert Watters, Pine Ridge.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Doyle D. Ream

RAPID CITY - Doyle D. Ream, 80, Rapid City, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ream, Rapid City; one daughter, Colleen Rockers, Evergreen, Colo.; two stepsons, J.T. Richer, Sheridan, Wyo., and Jim Bartholomew, Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Viola Tietge, Carsbad, Calif., and Velma Raddatz, Sidney, Neb.; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Thomas M. Keegan

HERMOSA - Thomas Michael Keegan, 84, rural Hermosa resident, died at his residence Thursday, May 2, 2002.

He was born June 4, 1917, at Hoover, S.D., the son of John and Mary (Edwards) Keegan. The family moved to Sturgis, S.D., when Tom was four years old. He attended schools at Sturgis and following graduation worked with his brothers in the Timber and later for the Doane Bros. Construction Co. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until Nov. of 1945. He married Leone Olson on Aug. 12, 1944, in Seattle, Washington. Tom was involved in construction work, and he and his wife worked together until retirement. He had a great love for horses, enjoyed working on various projects at home, and was very inventive and created many of his own tools and items of machinery for making wheels and implement parts. He also made several tunneling rigs that were used in his construction work.

Survivors include his wife, Leone Keegan, Hermosa; two sons, Michael Keegan, Kingsport, Tennessee, and Richard Keegan, Eugene, Oregon; two daughters, Kathryn Keegan, Newington, Conn., and Barbara Damin, St. Johnsville, New York; five granddaughters and three grandsons; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at the

Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Don Brendtro, Rev. Al Jacobson and Adam Pequette officiating.

Interment will be at the Black Hills National cemetery, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273.

A memorial has been established.

Dorothy Olive Cooper

GRANITE FALLS, Wash. - Dorothy Olive Cooper, 75, Granite Falls and formerly of Custer, S.D., died Monday, April 1, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Cooper and James Cooper, both of Everett, Wash., and two grandsons.

Joseph Rooks

KYLE - Joseph Rooks, 39, Kyle, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in Kyle.

Survivors include one daughter, Niquita LaValdo, Clarksville, Ky.; one son, Jason Andrews, Porcupine; four sisters, Grace Rooks, Joann Rooks and Bonnie Groaning Bear, all of Kyle, and Lynell Janis, Porcupine; three brothers, Duane Rooks and Howard Rooks, both of Kyle, and Leonard Janis, Rapid City; and one grandchild.

A two-night wake will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Kyle. The second night will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Hall in Kyle. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Our

Lady of Sorrows, with an Episcopal minister officiating. Burial will be at St. Barnabus Episcopal cemetery in Kyle.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Rosemary 'Rosie' Behlings

CUSTER - Rosemary "Rosie" Behlings, 60, Custer, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

She was born Feb. 28, 1942, at Milbank, South Dakota, to Jacob and Cecilia (Boruta) Tuchscherer. She grew up in the Wilmont and Corona Hartford Beach area. She began high school at Milbank and then graduated from Wilmont High School in 1960. She married Roger D. Behlings at Revillo, S.D., on Sept. 7, 1963. They lived in Milbank until moving to Custer in 1964, where they have lived ever since. For most of her time there, she was a day care provider in her home in Custer.

She was a member of the Custer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Her favorite pets were three Pekingese dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Behlings of Custer; three sons, Tim Behlings and his wife Jenny of Custer, Joel Behlings of Custer, and Brian Behlings of Chamberlain; one sister, Ann Cazer and her husband Gordon of Custer; one brother, Jim Tuchscherer of Corona; and two grandsons, Russell and Joshua Behlings of Custer.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services are set for 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Custer Lutheran Fellowship, with the Rev. Arley Fadness officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Custer City cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Rosie's memory.

Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.

George C. Hutchings

RAPID CITY - George C. Hutchings, 77, Rapid City, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hutchings, Rapid City, and one son, Evan Hutchings, Black Hawk.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

James F. Weekes

SPEARFISH - James F. Weekes, 84, Spearfish and formerly of Aladdin, Wyo., and Belle Fourche, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Weekes, Spearfish; one daughter, Nola Price, Wasta; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mavis Allan and Arlene Landgrebe, both of Dickinson, N.D.

Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Eugene D. Woods

RAPID CITY - Eugene D. Woods, 67, Rapid City, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include three daughters, Lolita Pruitt, San Antonio, and Melinda Connor and Jeanna Archer, both of Sioux Falls; three sons, Lyle Woods, Sioux Falls, Mark Woods, Brandon, and Jeffery Woods, Box Elder; one brother, Cloise Woods, Iowa; one sister, Lucille Cheston, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

His wife, Sue Ellen Woods, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City, with the Rev. Tim Coats officiating.

Jessie Black Feather

PINE RIDGE - Jessie Black Feather, 90, Pine Ridge, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, in Pine Ridge.

Survivors include three daughters, Estella Rowland, Irma Bad Wound and Mary Condon, all of Pine Ridge; one son, John Black Feather, Tempe, Ariz.; one sister, Lucy Phoebe Black Feather, Pine Ridge; 22 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A two-night wake will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Billy Mills Hall, with the Rev. Marlin Hunte and the Rev. Bill Red Bear officiating.

Burial will be at Wolf Creek Body of Christ cemetery in Pine Ridge.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
