Richard D. Vilhauer

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Richard D. Vilhauer, 71, passed away Thursday, June 13, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle following a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Highmore, S.D., to Emmanuel and Bertha (Guthmiller) Vilhauer. He graduated from high school in Huron, S.D., in 1949, then served in the military from 1951-1954 during the Korean War.

On February 16, 1957, he married Rita Bayne in Newcastle, Wyo. Rich worked for Shell Pipe Line and the couple spent the next 37 years living in Montana, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. He retired in 1993, choosing to make Wyoming their home, spending winters in Arizona.

Rich's greatest joy came from his family, but he also loved to work in his yard, going golfing, and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, Newcastle, Wyo.; two daughters, Joni (Craig) Bruch, Newcastle, Wyo., and Lori (John)

Kapeles, Casper, Wyo.; and 5 grandchildren, Lisa and Kristi Bruch and Matthew, Steven and Kristin Kapeles. Also 3 sisters, O'Linda Lonberg, Aloha, Ore., Leona (Jerry) Mattke, Sun City West, Ariz., and Caroline (Jim) Shabram, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and five brothers, Bob (Eva) Vilhauer, Huron, S.D., August Vilhauer, Eugene, Ore., Alvin (Betty) Vilhauer, Ranier, Ore., Ed (Shirley) Vilhauer, Eugene, Ore., and Jake (Nadean) Vilhauer, Huron, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene, in WWII; and one sister, Eileen.

Services will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, with Pastor Trish Underberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National cemetery.

Pallbearers are Doug Barone, Gene Diedtrich, Tom Green, Ray Huckins, Ronnie Shepherd and Clyde Burns.

Honorary pallbearers are Dean Pridgeon, Don Hansen, Tom Wright, Don McColley, Lyle Sylte and Stan Hurley and all his friends.

Memorials have been established to the Weston County Health Services Foundation or Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, June 19th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.

Beulla Mary 'Bee' Kenyon

CHAMBERLAIN - Beulla Mary "Bee" Kenyon, 77, Chamberlain, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain.

Survivors include one son, Chuck Kenyon, Chamberlain; five daughters, Pat Wolf and Cathy Zeman, both of Chamberlain, Carol Meier, Hayward, Wis., Sandy Wolcott, Reliance, and Rita Kenyon-Jump, Kalamazoo, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Clare Bedsaul, Rapid City, Philip Bedsaul, La Mesa, Calif., and Carroll Bedsaul, Lead.

Her husband, Charles Kenyon, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service, at Wevik Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain.

Burial will be at Riverside cemetery in Chamberlain.

Ione R. Flatt Bannister

VAN HORN, Texas - Ione R. Flatt Bannister, 69, Van Horn, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at a Van Horn medical center.

Survivors include her husband, Ivo Bannister, Van Horn; one son, Floyd Bannister, Phoenix; one adopted son, Robert Bannister, Washington; four daughters, Louise Vaught, Ohio, Linda Carey, Chicago, Barbara Bannister, Portland, Ore., and Kathy Eng,

Renton, Wash.; one adopted daughter, Karen Beck, Georgia; two brothers, Merle Flatt, Wall, S.D., and Elmer Flatt, Custer, S.D.; one sister, Alice Woods, Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Jacob A. Brown Eyes

PINE RIDGE - Jacob A. Brown Eyes, infant son of Corey Clifford and Lori Brown Eyes of Pine Ridge, was born and died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Pine Ridge.

Survivors include his parents; one sister, Corey Dawn Clifford, Pine Ridge; his paternal grandmother, Linda Clifford, Pine Ridge; and his maternal grandparents, Norman and Sarah Brown Eyes, Pine Ridge.

A one-night wake will begin at 3 p.m. today at Slim Buttes Community Building.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the community building, with the Rev. Bill Pauley officiating.

Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic cemetery in Slim Buttes.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Meier

RAPID CITY - Paul Meier, 81, Rapid City, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1920, in Roscoe, S.D., the son of Wendlin and Helena (Schmidt) Meier. Paul married Agnes E. Vetch on Dec. 25, 1942. On July 27, 1944, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a Rifleman with the 63rd Infantry. At the time of his discharge on Jan. 29, 1946, he was a Technician Fourth Grade.

In 1950, the family moved to Igloo, S.D., and in 1967, they moved to Rapid City. He retired from Civil Service in 1982 with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and horseback riding.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59-1/2 years, Agnes Meier, Rapid City; four daughters, Janette Anderson and her husband Kenneth, Chadron, Neb., Joyce Harrod and her husband Kenneth, Edgemont, S.D., Rebecca Senst and her husband Richard, Aurora, Colo., and Patricia Rossknecht and her husband Ralph, Hillsboro, Oregon; a son, Paul Meier and his wife Bernetta, Hawthorne, Nevada; a son-in-law, Robert Mitchell, Palo Verde, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; two sisters; and a daughter, Paulette Ann Mitchell, who died in 1999.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m., at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with Rev. Brian Christensen as the celebrant.

Interment, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will be at the Black Hills National cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Oscar J. Keierleber

CUSTER - Oscar J. Keierleber, 80, Custer, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer.

Arrangements are pending with McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Custer.

HOT SPRINGS - Charles Danks, 88, Hot Springs, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Hot Springs Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

HOT SPRINGS - Robert R. Finney, 68, Hot Springs, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Hot Springs Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Arrangements are pending with McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Luke Wedean Wolfe

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Luke Wedean Wolfe, 5-1/2 months, Rochester, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Survivors include his parents, Steve and Marcy Wolfe, Rochester; his twin sister, Meg Wolfe, Rochester; his paternal grandparents, Bob and Kathy Wolfe, Davenport, Iowa; and his maternal grandparents, Susan Brunskill, Murdo, S.D., and Neal and Anne Brunskill, Philip, S.D.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Karen Foster and the Rev. Gary Seaquist officiating.

Burial will be at 6 p.m. CST Wednesday, June 19, at Murdo cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Hoag officiating.

Rush Funeral Home of Philip is in charge of local arrangements.

Douglas T. Conquering Bear

MARTIN - Douglas T. Conquering Bear, 44, Martin, died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Rapid City.

Survivors include one son, Douglas Johnson Jr., Martin; two daughters, Jeanine Johnson, Martin, and Missy Thompson, Brigham City, Utah; two brothers, John Conquering Bear, Hisle, and David Conquering Bear, Sioux Falls; and two sisters, Margie Morrison and Wilma Leonard, both of Martin.

A two-night wake will begin at 2 p.m. today at the Martin CAP Building.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Martin CAP Building, with the Rev. Daniel Makes Good officiating.

Burial will be at Inestimable Gift Episcopal cemetery in Allen.

Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Karl Eisenbraun

CASPER, Wyo. - Richard Karl Eisenbraun, 90, Casper, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at a hospice home in Casper.

Survivors include four sons, Julius Eisenbraun, Mitchell, S.D., Herman Eisenbraun, St. Onge, S.D., John Eisenbraun, Casper, and Aaron Eisenbraun, Rapid City; one sister, Helen Eisenbraun, Forest Lake, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Carroll D. Hurd

CAMBRIDGE, Ill. - Carroll D. Hurd, 63, Cambridge, Ill., and formerly of Spearfish, died June 13, 2002, at the Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at Fidler Funeral Chapel, Spearfish, with Rev. Mel Miller, United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 164 and VFW Post 5860, Spearfish.

A memorial has been established for the Illinois High School Rodeo Association.

Carroll was born March 15, 1939, in Deadwood, to Vernon Walter and Norma Jean (Morehouse) Hurd. On June 19, 1966, he married Patricia K. Loup in Nisland.

Carroll was a punch press operator for John Deere, retiring in 1996. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Turkey during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Bishop Hill United Methodist Church, and a member of the Illinois High School Rodeo Association, teaching steer wrestling for 16 years. He was also a member of the Lake Calhoun Country Club and the UAW Post 465. He enjoyed golfing.

Those grateful for having shared in Carroll's life are his wife, Patricia Hurd, rural Cambridge, Ill.; two sons, Chawn (and Gwen) Hurd, Prophetstown, Ill., and Jay Dee (and Jayne) Hurd, Galva, Ill.; five grandchildren, Nichole Scace, Scott Silva, Tony Silva, Danny Silva and Austin Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Morghan, Meghan and Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Local arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler Funeral Chapel, Spearfish.
