Ron Cowan

CUSTER - Ron Cowan was born Dec. 23, 1960, to Ron L. and Sandy Cowan in Salt Lake City.

In 1994, Ron moved to Custer, S.D. He was employed by Heavy Construction of Rapid City, S.D., and had worked mostly in the construction and ready-mix concrete industries. He married Kim Delaney in 1995. He enjoyed boating and a variety of outdoor sports.

On Sunday, June 16, 2002, Ron died after the pickup truck he was driving missed a curve in Custer State Park and rolled late Saturday evening. He was thrown from the vehicle, air-lifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where he died a short time later. He was 41 years old.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Cowan of Custer; a daughter, Cassidy Cowan of Custer; his father, Ron L. Cowan of Rapid City, S.D.; his mother, Sandy Potter of Custer; a brother, Rodney (Missy) of Rapid City; a sister, Lisa (Curtis) Heath of Monroe, Utah; a son, Ron, Jr. of Utah; a brother-in-law, Thad (Michelle) Delaney of Custer; an uncle, Lyle (Sharon) Bothel of Casper, Wyo.; and two aunts, Floy Wilcox and Bonita Blunk, both of Utah.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer.

Dual services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Custer Lutheran Fellowship east of Custer. He was cremated and burial will be later in Custer cemetery.

McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer is in charge of arrangements.

Chase Cowan

CUSTER - Chase Cowan was born August 1989 in Salt Lake City to Ron and Barbara Cowan.

Chase was a sixth grader in Custer Elementary and had recently become a proud and enthusiastic member of the local Crazy Horse Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. He especially loved the flying aspects of the activity and had dreams of a future Air Force and flying career.

His special grandma Sandy is especially consoled in knowing that Chase now has his wings and can fly, with no one to hold him back ever again. Our angel will always be with us.

On Saturday evening, June 16, 2002, Chase died when the pickup truck in which he was riding missed a curve near Blue Bell Lodge in Custer State Park, rolled and impacted a large tree. Chase was thrown from the bed of the truck and died at the scene. He was 12 years old.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara, when he was 2 years old.

Survivors include his stepmother, Kim Cowan of Custer, S.D.; a sister, Cassidy Cowan of Custer; a brother, Dexter Silva of Salt Lake City; grandparents, Sandy Bothel Potter of Custer, Carol Thomas of Salt Lake City, and Bill and Sherrie Delaney of Custer; an uncle, Rod (Missy) Cowan of Rapid City; an aunt Lisa (Curtis) of Monroe, Utah; and uncles, Keven and Marty Capps and James Cousins of Utah.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer.

Dual services for Chase and his father will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Custer Lutheran Fellowship east of Custer. Burial will be in Custer cemetery.

McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer is in charge of arrangements.

Robert R. Finney

EDGEMONT - Robert R. Finney, 68, Edgemont, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Hot Springs Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Hedglin, Edgemont; two sisters, LouJean McWilliams, Alliance, Neb., and Margaret Bryant, Aledo, Texas; and two granddaughters.

He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 20, 1956, to Dec. 24, 1958.

A wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at the church, with the Rev. Peter Kovarik officiating.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Edgemont is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Gerald Wagaman

Sundance, Wyo. - Richard Gerald Wagaman, 65, Sundance, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 17, 2002, in Sundance, WY.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Sundance.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at the United Methodist Church, Sundance, with Rev. Nathan Brandt, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Mountain cemetery, Sundance.

A Memorial has been established for the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, in Sundance.

Rich was born on September 2, 1936, to John and Kathryn (Hoffer) Wagaman, in Reliance, SD, where he was raised and attended school.

Rich and Joyce (Weldin) Hoffer Wagaman were married on April 19, 1969, in Ft. Collins, CO. For many years, they traveled the Midwest with various construction companies until settling in Sundance, in 1969. Richie was co-owner of the Turf Bar in Sundance for 25 years. He also began D&R; Backhoe and plumbing business with his son, which he continued to operate until his death.

Rich was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed in Reliance, SD.

Among his survivors are his wife Joyce Wagaman, Sundance, his children; Pam (Gordon) Henke, Wright, WY, son-in-law Everett (Darla) Mitts, Medicine Bow, WY, Brenda (Allen) DePoy, Cawker, City, KS, Darwin (Della) Hoffer, Sundance, Brenda (Merlin) Pickner, Pukwana, SD, Wendy (Mark) Eskins, Yankton, SD, one brother Henry (Betty) Wagaman, Oacoma, SD, two sisters-in-law Rose Mary (Jim) Wagaman, Sundance, and Phyllis (Walt) Mannhalter, Rapid City, SD, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim Wagaman, and Walt Mannhalter, daughter Darla (Everett) Mitts, and infant granddaughter Amanda (Darwin and Debbie (Tracy) Hoffer).

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Sundance, WY.

Rosella Melissa Wiedmann

STURGIS - Rosella Melissa Wiedmann, 73, Sturgis, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Sturgis Community Health Care Center.

Survivors include her husband, Walt Wiedmann, Sturgis; one son, Ron Wiedmann, Sturgis; two daughters, Debra Reed, Wiley, Colo., and Melissa Austin, White Owl; one brother, Denzel Richards, Tuthill; her twin sister, Luella Bakley, Martin; six grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and for one hour before services Thursday, June 20, at United Methodist Church in Sturgis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Gordon Higgins officiating.

Burial will follow at Bear Butte cemetery in Sturgis.

Harold A. Griffith

LEAD - Harold A. Griffith, 86, Lead, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Griffith, Lead; two sons, John Griffith, Jamestown, N.D., and William Griffith, Lead; two daughters, Marcella Halonen and Marian Charles, both of Rapid City; two brothers, John Griffith, Ipswich, and Roy Griffith, Fort Pierre; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 2, 1942, to Oct. 5, 1945.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Lead and for one hour before services Thursday, June 20, at the church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Sylvan Williams officiating.

Burial will be Friday, June 21, 2002, at Powell cemetery in Ipswich.

Robert F. Pokorny

RAPID CITY - Robert F. Pokorny died Saturday, June 8, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Bob was born December 31, 1932, in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Omaha South High School in 1950, enlisted in the Air Force and served 4 years. He married Jackie Gasper-Lee in 1956 and adopted her daughter, Pamela. Careers included 17 years with Western Union, which took him and his family all over the U.S. and Canada for temporary assignments. He was also an electrical contractor in the Omaha/Bellevue area for a number of years.

Bob loved fishing, hunting, trap shooting and traveling to visit and recreate with the many friends he had made throughout his time with Western Union. He was an excellent cook who loved grilling or smoking his homemade sausages for family and friends. Turkey-jerky was a requested favorite!

Survivors include his wife Jackie, Rapid City; two daughters, Pamela Kuemmerle, her husband Chuck, Rapid City, and Linda Lynge of Laguna Hills, California; one brother, John Pokorny, Omaha; 2 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday in the Chapel at the Blessed Sacrament Church. Memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at the Blessed Sacrament Church, with Rev. Michel Mulloy presiding.

Inurnment, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will be at the Black Hills National cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.

Oscar J. Keierleber

CUSTER - Oscar J. Keierleber, 80, of Custer, died June 17, 2002, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Custer.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, with a wake service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Pat Coy officiating.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at St. John's Catholic Church in Custer, with Fr. Peter Kovarik and Deacon Pat Coy officiating.

Burial will be 11 a.m. CST Saturday, June 22, 2002, at St. Boniface cemetery in Clearfield, South Dakota. There will be a visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home in Winner before the services.

Oscar was born on May 7, 1922, in Clearfield, South Dakota, to Jacob O. and Lydia (Becker) Keierleber. On August 9, 1949, he married Deloris Schoenfelder in Kennebec, South Dakota. He was engaged in farming and ranching at Clearfield on the family farm until moving to Custer in 1978. Oscar was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Oscar tutored students at the Youth Forestry Camp. He loved kids, playing cards, bingo and dancing. He always enjoyed a good laugh.

Survivors include his sons, Joel R. Keierleber, Brian P. Keierleber, Douglas M. Keierleber and Daniel D. Keierleber; his daughters, Angela M. Keierleber, Ramona M. Sheely and Jocelyn G. Blume; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Lydia; his wife Deloris; brothers Walter and Arthur and sisters Luella Keierleber and Rebecca Arseneau; and two sons, Francis and Jacob Keierleber.

A memorial has been established in Oscar's memory.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer.

Lawrence R. Styles

RAPID CITY - Lawrence R. Styles, 89, Rapid City, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Rapid Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.L. Davis officiating.

Burial was at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.

Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City was in charge of arrangements.

Charles R. 'Charlie' Danks

HOT SPRINGS - Charles R. "Charlie" Danks, 88, Hot Springs, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.

Survivors include three local cousins, Leslie Day, Wanda Hall and Margaret Demery.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 24, at the veterans home, with the Rev. Richard Bershon officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas O. Anderson

TRACY, Minn. - Thomas O. Anderson, 66, Tracy, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Our Cottage Hospice in Luverne, Minn.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Anderson and Robert Anderson, both of Rapid City; one daughter, Jacque Perli, Rapid City; his children's mother, Shirley Norman Frein, Rapid City; two grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Schmidt, Springfield, Minn., and Carolyn Engelkes, Tracy, Minn.; and one brother, Donald Anderson, Cheney, Wash.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from Nov. 1953 to 1973 in Korea, Guam, Thailand and Okinawa.

Hospice of Luverne Community Hospital will plant a tree in his memory.
