Norman M. Rath
ROBINSON, N.D. — Norman M. Rath, 66, of Robinson, ND, died Fri., July 12, 2002 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Norman was born Feb. 8, 1936 at Tuttle, North Dakota to Jacob and Bertha Rath. In 1943 the family moved to Robinson, ND where he attended public schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and retired after 21 years of service as a First Classman Gunner's Mate. He was an active member of VFW Post 06833 and American Legion Post 0627.
He is survived by his father, Jacob Rath of Steele, ND, seven children, Norma Willier of Rapid City, Yvonne Hurtado of Atlantic City, NJ, Dianna Duckett of Spearfish, Muriel (Mino) Baker and husband Mike of Black Hawk, Jeff Rath and wife Donna of Spokane, WA, Michael Rath and Shawn Rath both of Colstrip, MT, 2 brothers & 6 sisters, Norma Korber of Cherry Hill, NJ, Gladys York of Grand Forks, ND, Raymond Rath of Colstrip, MT, Loretta Hanson of Bismarck, ND, Marlys Leno of Tuttle, ND, Betty Guthmiller of Carrington, ND, Gloria Guthmiller of Jamestown, ND, Rodney D. Rath of Rapid City, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and special friends, John, Dennis, Danny, Janet and Marlys.
He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother, three sisters and one grandson.
Graveside services are set for 10:00 am Wed., July 17, 2002 in the Rotunda of Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, with the Rev. Dorothy Batty officiating. Military rites will be given by the Sturgis Honor Guard.
Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of the arrangements.
Gregory Lee Hall
RAPID CITY — Gregory Lee Hall, 48, Rapid City, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Holly Hall, Rapid City; three children, Makenzie Hall, Jared Hall and Emily Hall, all of Gettysburg; his parents, Floyd W. and Velda M. Hall, Gettysburg; one brother, Gary Hall, Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Sandra Dinan, Denver, Janet Crawford, Waterloo, Ill., and Kateri Feck, Parker, Colo.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday, July 17, at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Walter Jones officiating. Interment will be held Thursday, July 18, in Gettysburg.
A memorial has been established.
Robert Carl Hart
WINNER — Robert Carl Hart, 75, Winner and formerly of Jefferson, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Winner Regional Hospital.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1951 and served in the Korean conflict.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Ellwanger, Provo; one half brother, Charles, Dallas; and one half sister, Florence Jackson, Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Edna Hanson and Oma Ohmes.
Services were at Kotrba Funeral Home in Gregory, with burial at Spotted Tail cemetery in Jamison, Neb.

Henry Wilson Oliver
BELLE FOURCHE — Henry Wilson Oliver, 86, Belle Fourche and formerly of Glendive, Mont., died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Belle Fourche Long Term Health Care Center.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis Oliver, Whitefish, Mont., Darrell Oliver, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Norman Oliver, El Cajon, Calif.; four daughters, Marella Sargent, Saint Louis, Mich., Mary Lloyd, Helena, Mont., Yvonne Olmstead, Glendive, and Roberta McCartney, Sheridan, Wyo.; one brother, Albert Oliver, Rapid City; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Gladys L. Brumley
LEMMON — Gladys L. Brumley, 80, Lemmon, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hettinger, N.D.
Survivors include her husband, Allan Brumley, Lemmon; one daughter, Katherine Potter, Vermillion; two sons, Dean Brumley, Austin, Texas, and Keith Brumley, Lemmon; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Leedy, Winter Park, Fla.; and one brother, C. Sterling Williams, Bison.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 22, and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 23, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.
Visitation will continue for one hour before services, which will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, with the Rev. Arlen Swanson and the Rev. Harold Watrous officiating.
Burial will be at Greenhill cemetery in Lemmon.
Beth B. Broadhurst
SPEARFISH — Beth B. Broadhurst, 92, Spearfish, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Broadhurst, Spearfish, and Lynn Broadhurst, Denver, and one stepson, Glen Broadhurst, Belle Fourche.
Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish.
Gladys G. Modde
CUSTER — Gladys G. Modde, 87, Custer, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, on Highway 16.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Curtis, Hemet, Calif., John Modde, Belgrade, Mont., and David Modde, Helena, Mont.; two daughters, Karen Bonesteel, Custer, and Lavona Gusdahl, Seattle; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at a later date.

CUSTER — Charles P. Modde, 86, Custer, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, on Highway 16.

Eva Elizabeth Adair
OSKALOOSA, Iowa — Eva Elizabeth Adair, infant daughter of Tim Adair and Shawna Fischer, Oskaloosa, was stillborn Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.
Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Chasiti Fischer, Oskaloosa, and Shelby Coolley, Spearfish, S.D.; her maternal grandmother, Nelda and Delwyn Oberweg, Black Hawk, S.D.; her maternal grandfather, Lile Mark Fischer; her paternal grandmother, Margaret and Louis Wawrzywiak, Junction City, Kan.; and her paternal grandfather, Charles Adair, Newton, Kan.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, July 22, at Black Hawk cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Frank R. Briones Sr.
RAPID CITY — Frank R. Briones, Sr., 80, of Rapid City, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, following a long illness at the V.A.M.C., Ft. Meade, S.D.
Frank was born August 12, 1921, in Belle Fourche to Regino and Laturninar (Carnipl) Briones. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 1942 to Feb. 1946 in the European Theatre. He married
Lucy Jimenes on May 18, 1946, in Rapid City.
He worked as a backhoe operator for M.A. Garland Construction for over 20 years. Frank was also employed by Dean Kurtz Construction, H&R; Plumbing, Brablic Construction and Sweetman Construction. Frank enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Briones, Rapid City; a son, Frank R. Briones, Jr., Rapid City; 2 brothers, Cy Briones, Colquitt, Ga., and Joe Briones, Rapid City; 3 sisters, Nina Sales and Sara Reams, both of Rapid City, and Rachael Gutowski, Brooklyn, N.Y.; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Tony; 1 brother; and 2 sisters.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 22, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, with Rev. Patrick McCorkell, S.J. as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National cemetery, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Carri Sue Hoffland
HETTINGER, N.D. — Carri Sue Hoffland, 18, Hettinger, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, as the result of a car accident near Reva, S.D.
Survivors include her mother, Sheli Hoffland, Hettinger; her father, Lynn Hoffland, Rapid City, S.D.; one brother, Carter Hoffland, Rapid City; and grandparents Dennis and Jan Bentsen, Hettinger, and Freda Hoffland, Lemmon, S.D.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, and one hour before services at the church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jerry Lee and the Rev. Robert Boxrud officiating. Burial will follow at Hettinger cemetery.
A memorial will be established by the family.

RAPID CITY — Frank Etherington, 61, Rapid City, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel, Rapid City; five children, Larry, Rapid City, Edward, Adelanto, Calif., Mike, Burlington, N.C., Leah Haase, Washougal, Wash., and Christopher, Hutchinson, Minn.; three brothers, Bill Etherington, Center, N.D., John Etherington, Sioux Falls, and Walt Etherington, Rapid City; three sisters, Jean Krank, Dickinson, N.D., Alice Hutchinson, Las Vegas, Nev., and Rose Lumpkin, Delta, Ala.; and 10 grandchildren.

PIEDMONT — Helen Meyer, 85, Piedmont, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at her home.

NEW UNDERWOOD — Mary Ann Schmidt, 56, New Underwood, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Schmidt, New Underwood; two daughters, Debora French and Millie Flockhart, both of Minnesota; her father, Domnick F. Najolia Sr., Missouri; her stepmother Jerry Najolia, Missouri; one brother, Domnick Najolia Jr., Illinois; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary service, today at Behrens Mortuary Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Brian Lane as celebrant. Burial will be at Black Hill National cemetery near Sturgis.
Darrell Powers
RAPID CITY — Darrell Powers, 78, Rapid City, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, Rapid City; one son, Eddie J. Powers; one daughter, Jeryl Kelleen; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lilly Ann Phillips
NEW UNDERWOOD — Lilly Ann Phillips was stillborn on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her parents, Hazel and Mark Phillips, New Underwood; three brothers, Dylan, Walker and Caleb, all of New Underwood; and grandparents, Harold and Janice Jensen, New Underwood, and Carol Phillips, Owanka.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at New Underwood cemetery.
