On Jan. 12, 1947, she married Jeffrey Hadley in a double wedding with her sister Lorraine and Charles Dunning in St. Albans, New York. In 1953, she pursued a modeling career part-time, taking classes at the Barbizon School of Modeling. Jeffrey Hadley died of heart disease. She and Sandra lived in Kingston, Jamaica, for eight years. They returned to New York in 1965; she worked as an X-ray technician at Hospital for Special Surgery until she took early retirement in 1983. She married David Gibson, her one true love, in New York in 1978. They loved to travel together to Europe and the West Indies. He encouraged her to pursue her acting and career. During the 1980's, she was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and had small roles in TV soap operas on CBS, and played the principal roles in industrial films, TV commercials for the IRS and Social Security, and print ads for Dark & Lovely hair products in Ebony and Essence magazines. David died of a heart attack in 1986.

She moved to Rapid City in 1988 to be close to her grandchildren, Freddie and Angie Magnavito. She worked as an X-ray technician for Dr. Reuben Bareis and then Dr. Lee Ahrlin until 1995, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Lois served on the Rapid Transit Advisory Board in 1995, and was active in her Tenant's Association. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, serving as a Lay Reader, and loved children in the Nursery and Vacation Bible School. She was an avid reader and loved art and music. She was always at the Public Library, and volunteered at the Journey Museum, the Pennington County Sheriff's Department, RSVP, and Black Hills Arthritis Association. She was a member of the Rapid City YMCA, AARP, and South Dakota Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities. Since she lived with the pain of Osteoarthritis since the 1970's, she was always able to greet people with a winning smile at Health Fairs and loved to share her knowledge of arthritis with others. She enjoyed making new friends at the arthritis warm-water exercise classes at the YMCA.

Survivors include her sister, Lorraine Dunning, Cathedral City, Calif.; her daughter, Sandra Magnavito, and son-in-law Dr. Fred Magnavito; and two grandchildren, Freddie Magnavito of Rapid City, and Angie Magnavito-Mora of Salt Lake City, Utah.
