Helen O. Holeton
WESSINGTON SPRINGS - Helen O. Holeton, 94, Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Weskota Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Swanson and Wanda Tapken, both of Wessington Springs, Bonnie Will, Kimball, and Elizabeth Holeton, Mitchell; two sons, Michael Holeton, Rapid City, and John Holeton, Mandan, N.D.; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Elwin Holeton, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs.
Visitation will continue for one hour before services, which will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, with the Rev. Michael Bagnall officiating.
Burial will be at Prospect Hill cemetery.
Alfred 'Bud' Sprigler
SUNDANCE, Wyo. - Alfred "Bud" Sprigler, 92, Sundance and formerly of Spearfish, S.D., died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Crook County Memorial Nursing Home in Sundance.
Survivors include six sons, Jim Sprigler, Lake Andes, S.D., Leo Sprigler, Gillette, Joe Sprigler, St. Paul, Minn., Ed Sprigler, Rockford, Ill., Tom Sprigler, Laurel, Mont., and the Rev. Bill Sprigler, Hutchinson, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
His wife, Lucy Sprigler, preceded him in death.
His body has been cremated, and private family services will be at a later date.

Elsie A. Grill
RAPID CITY - Elsie A. Grill, 82, of Rapid City, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at a local nursing home.
She was born March 11, 1920, to Fred and Jessie (Robinson) Lichti in New York City. She received her education in the New York City public school system, and then began employment with the New York Department of Hospitals, where she worked until her retirement.
Elsie moved to Rapid City in 1976 to be closer to her son, William Landers, and her sister, Edith Chace.
Since 1985, she had been an enthusiastic volunteer in Rapid City, mainly in local nursing homes.
She is survived by one son, William, his wife Gretchen and sons Jason and Matthew Gieger, one sister, Edith Chace, niece Georgene Parker and family, all of Rapid City, and her nephew, Dana Chace and family of Piedmont.
She very much appreciated all the visits and expressions of sympathy during her illness.
Family and close friends will be gathering to celebrate her life from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2002, in the Herd Room at the Elks Country Club in Rapid City.
Arrangements are with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Beverly Jean Davis
NEWELL - Beverly Jean Davis, 65, Newell, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Survivors include one son, Rocky Ladson, Newell; two daughters, Sherry Ingwersen, St. Onge, and Audrey Ladson, Belle Fourche; two brothers, Fred Carter, Spearfish, and Ken Carter, Pierre; one sister, Bonnie Stewart; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, and for one hour before services Saturday, Aug. 17, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Buck Malone officiating.
Burial will be at St. Onge cemetery.
Jane Ann Seeley
OSAGE, Wyo. - Jane Ann Seeley, 54, Osage, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Seeley, Osage; three children, Matt, Paula and David; and one brother, Rodney Check, Newcastle.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at First Christian Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. Mick Bohn and Roy Glenn Julius officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Newcastle.
Memorials may be made to Newcastle Christian Academy or Skull Creek Community Center.
Robert E. 'Bob' Parkinson
WATERTOWN - Robert E. "Bob" Parkinson, 76, Watertown, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at a care center in Gettysburg.
Survivors include two sons, Kurt Parkinson, Pierre, and Terry Parkinson, Blaine, Minn.; one brother, Alvin Parkinson, Salt Lake City; one sister, Alice Scheidegger, Huron; and two grandchildren.
His wife, Dorothy Parkinson, preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 24, 1944, to July 3, 1946, and from April 7, 1951, to June 11, 1952.
Visitation will be before services, which will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. William Hamill officiating. The family will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at the church for a prayer service.
Burial, with military graveside rites by Codington County Post N. 17 of the American Legion, Watertown, will be at Mount Hope cemetery in Watertown.
Crawford Funeral Chapel of Watertown is in charge of arrangements.
Helen Walker
SPEARFISH - Helen Walker, Spearfish and formerly of Redig, died Oct. 26, 2001.
Survivors include one son, Dean Walker, Spearfish; one daughter, Donna Rose Banning, Orange, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at United Church of Christ in Spearfish.
Irene Gladys Hoffman
BROOKINGS - Irene Gladys Hoffman, 91, Brookings, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, in a Brookings hospital.
Survivors include three children, Wayne Hoffman, Rapid City, Carolyn Apland, Norfolk, Neb., and Judy Smith, Brookings; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Fredrick, Mason City, Iowa.
Her husband, Milton Hoffman, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Plymouth Congregational UCC in Clark, with the Rev. Donna Nickels officiating.
Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery in Clark.

Ruth A. Boline
RAPID CITY - Ruth A. Boline, 69, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include three sons, Kent Boline, Mitchell, Jody Boline, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Garret Boline, Las Vegas; one brother, Darrel Larson, Vermillion; one sister, Marjorie Swedeen, Yankton; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Bruce Baum officiating.
Burial will follow at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established.
Martha Mettler
RAPID CITY — Martha Mettler of Rapid City died Thursday, August 8, 2002, at Morningstar Assisted Living.
She was born June 28, 1910, in Eureka, S.D. She was raised on the Opp homestead and educated in rural schools. On February 28, 1929, she was married
to Gust Mettler. They remained on their farm near Eureka until 1965, when they moved to Rapid City.
Martha loved and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, taking part in many of their activities in school and sports. She also enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to prepare the many favorite German recipes that she prepared so deliciously. Canning and baking were two of her specialties. Martha will also be remembered for her Hi-Lo-Jack card playing joy during fellowship with family and friends.
Martha was an active life-long member of the Reformed Church in Eureka and Rapid City, with Hope Christian Reformed Church being her last place of worship.
Survivors include six sons, Merle Mettler, Fred Mettler, Van Mettler and Blake Mettler, all of Rapid City, Stan Mettler, Wall, S.D., and Richard Mettler, Rochford, S.D.; four daughters, Ramona Jackels, Rancho Cordova, Calif., Marlene Skie and Vera Mettler, both of Rapid City, and Carol Jung, Piedmont; two sisters, Christina Knapp and Erna Stroh, both of Eureka, S.D.; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, a son and two grandsons.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Rapid City, with Rev. Steve Rhodes officiating.
Interment will be at the Mountain View cemetery.
A memorial has been established in memory of Martha.
Shirley Eckert
LARGO, Fla. — Shirley Eckert, 76, Largo and formerly of Pierre, S.D., died Feb. 6, 2002, at a care center in Largo.
Survivors include one daughter, Penne Martin, Largo; two sons, Milo Eckert Jr. and Duane Eckert, both of Pierre; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Judy, Pierre.
Her husband, Milo Eckert, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
