James F. Shoun

RAPID CITY — It seems he was with us for such a short time but he touched all our lives in so many ways he will be with us always.

Jim was a loving husband, father, granddad, brother, son and friend. He shared his life, his stories and his heart with all he met. His incredible life began June 8, 1935, when he was born on his grandparents' ranch in Red Owl, S.D. Francis and Gladys, his proud parents, raised him on the ranch and his foundation for life was set. He grew up with two sisters and their bond lasted a lifetime.

After graduating from Sturgis High School in 1953, he went on to further his education. His graduation from Rocky Mountain Trade School in 1957 and the following three years serving in the Army, launched his career as an entrepreneur and successful businessman. The knowledge he gained from his many successes, he willingly shared with others in hopes they would benefit from his experience.

In 1964 Jim married Darlene Maynard and started a family that would grow to be his greatest joy. Their daughter Vicki was born in 1964 and son Ken arrived in 1969. When his sister Mary Jo Jacot passed away in 1979, the family welcomed her two sons, Ezra and David and included them as their very own. Family was the most important part of Jim's life ... they shared family vacations, summers and weekends at the lake, camping. boating, skiing and sharing quality time together.

His business career started in 1961. While working for Black Hills Appliance in Lead, he, along with a friend, founded an electronics trade school in Rapid City. Later, Jim opened a store in Lead selling and repairing televisions and appliances. After moving to Rapid City he worked for Telson Electric and in l967 went to the School of Mines where he worked for eight years. In 1975, Jim entered into a 25 year relationship with Symcom. It was an up and coming company and Jim devoted his energies contributing to the success of the company. He retired in 2000 with a sense of pride and personal accomplishment.

The family Jim loved so much includes wife Darlene; daughter Vicki Bierman, son Ken and wife Julia, son Ezra Jacot and wife Kristen, son David Jacot; eight grandchildren, Karisa, Chelbi and Tori Shoun, Maegan, Rebekah, Mary Jo and Aaron Jacot, and Tyson Jacot; sister, Vicki Willsey; cousins Jenny Cox and Florence Rice; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. We are truly grateful for the time we shared with him but if given the choice would have wanted much more. We will miss him.

His light-hearted spirit and playful jokes have added smiles to our memories. We ask you come and share with the family a Remembrance of Jim's Life, Monday, May 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home, 1051 E. Minnesota, Rapid City.

Directly following is an open house to be held at the Ken and Julia Shoun residence, 3916 Marathon Court, Rapid City.

A memorial has been established.
