Arlan Lammers

Arlan John Lammers, age 34, of South Yankton, Nebraska, died on Sunday, November 30, 2008 as a result of a one vehicle accident on Hwy 121 north of Crofton, NE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, NE with Rev Timothy Lange officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery in Bow Valley. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the church with a vigil service and video tribute at 7:00 pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Arlan was born on January 15, 1974 in Yankton to Daryl and Joan (Kleinschmit) Lammers. He grew up northwest of Bow Valley, attended Cedar Catholic High School, and graduated from Hartington High School in 1992. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for 3 years. Arlan married Ronette Kollars in 1997 in Hartington and they had a child, Reuben. He married Suzanne Moses in 2004 in Lincoln and they had a child, Treva. Arlan was engaged to Robin Hamilton and they had a child, Clayton. Arlan played bass guitar for several bands and worked as a carpenter. He loved to read, study philosophy, write, and hunt. Arlan was very passionate about life, especially about his music, which brought him a great deal of happiness. He could visit with anyone about any number of subjects. Arlan loved to read the bible, he knew and loved God, and took life one day at a time.
Survivors include his parents, Daryl and Joan Lammers of Bow Valley, fiancé, Robyn Hamilton of South Yankton, 3 children, Reuben, Treva, and Clayton, 5 brothers and sisters and their spouses; Sonya and Gary Kathol of Scottsdale, AZ, Daryl T. "Buddy" Lammers of Sioux Falls, SD, April and Bob Nissen, of Yankton, Robin and John Young of Newport News, VA, and Dawn Lammers of Hartington. Arlan was deeply loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Loretta Lammers, and maternal grandparents, Gerald and Irene Kleinschmit.

Lucille Evelyn Myers

A memorial service for Lucille Evelyn Myers, 84, Spearfish, was held Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Carlsen and Aldinger Funeral Home, Spearfish. Inurnment followed at the Black Hills National cemetery.
Mrs. Myers died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility, Spearfish.
She was born June 17, 1920, in White Lake, to Will and Anna (Hanten) Adams. Her father died when she was a cild and her mother later married Chris Kent, who was “a loving father and grandfather to his new family.” She was raised and attended school in Wessington Springs.
She and Donald Calvin Myers eloped March 27, 1941, to Pipestone, Minn., to marry. They then moved to San Diego, Calif., where Don worked for Consolidated Aircraft Company and where their older child, Sandy, was born. In 1944 they moved back to Wessington Springs and Don was drafted into the U.S. Navy. Upon his return from the war in the Pacific, they farmed in the Wessington Springs are and their second child, Dean, was born. In 1954 they moved to Redfield and opened a television and radio repair shop. They lived in Redfield for 13 years. In 1967 they moved to Seattle, Wash.
In Seattle Lucille worked at the South Center Mall in the J.C. Penney store, at this time the largest Penney’s store in the nation. She sold appliances and “was a natural.” She was named the top salesperson in the Northwest Area on several occasions. Her favorite stories were about Mr. J.C. Penney and how he would visit the store and come and see her. They had much in common and always enjoyed each other’s company. In 1981, Don died of a heart attack and she continued to work at Penney’s for one more year. In 1982 she retired and moved to Mitchell to be close to family and friends. In Mitchell she began traveling and “didn’t stop until she had been to Europe and up and down the East Coast. She loved to travel and always boasted that she had been in every state except Hawaii and Alaska.”
In 1944 she moved to Spearfish to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. During her last several years she enjoyed her life at the Ponderosa Assisted Living Center. She had many friends and “enjoyed playing cards and having lunch with all of them. She had a zest for life and a great sense of humor.”
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Sandy and Chuck Wasser, Harlem, Mont.; her son and daughter-in-law: Dean and Mary Ann Myers, Spearfish; four grandchildren: Cheryl Hindman, Daryl Hardie, Jason Myers and Sara Sorrell; 12 great-grandchildren: Cassie, Michael, Austin, Tyrell, DeAndra, Danielle, Dawn, Paul, Gabriel, Wesley, Sam and Alexander; one sister: Vera Myers, Wessington Springs; and one brother: Bob Adams, Longview, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Donald, one grandson: Richard, one sister: Laverne, and two brothers: Bill and Marion.

Milton L. Johnson
Birth date: March 06, 1917
Death date: April 10, 2008

Milton L. Johnson, 91, of Centerville/Hub City Community, SD, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, April 14, 2008, at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion. Burial will be in Dalesburg Lutheran cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Milton Johnson was born March 6, 1917 in Clay County, SD, the son of Carl and Bertha (Larsen) Johnson. He attended Dalesburg Country School and Vermillion High School. He was a child of the "Dirty Thirties" and he began farming as a child with horses. He farmed with his brother, Roy, as Johnson Brothers in cattle feeding and grain farming. In 1986, he and his late brother received the Clay County Livestock Feeders of the Year Award. He enjoyed cattle feeding! He lived on the farm until his death.
He was active in his church, Dalesburg Lutheran Church, and other organizations in the Dalesburg/Hub City Community. He was a supporter of advocacy groups for South Dakota corn and soybeans.
He married Virginia Soderman on January 12, 1950 in Yankton and they had one son, Ron. The couple farmed in Clay County their entire married life.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son, Ron; his sister, Helen Green of Minneapolis, MN; his nephews, Gordon Johnson, Doug Green and Steve Green; his nieces, LeAnne Austin and Carol Carlsen; and other relatives and friends.

Alexia Otterpohl

HARTINGTON, Neb. -- Alexia Otterpohl, 83 of Hartington, Neb., died Thursday (Nov. 17, 2005) at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, after suffering an apparent heart attach at home.

Earl Lawrence Farr
(March 27, 1923 - October 25, 2011)

Earl Lawrence Farr, age 88, of Colton, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Covington Heights in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will begin at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Colton.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Friday, with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
Earl was born March 27, 1923 to Laurence and Laura (Bell) Farr at Humboldt, SD. He received his education at the country school in the area. Earl worked on the farm and for the Ellis brothers before entering the service. Earl served in the US Army from 1945 to 1946. He was stationed in the Philippines during his tour.
Earl married Carrie Immeker on July 24, 1947. She passed away March 26, 1972. He then married Jeanette Reurink September 10, 1976.
Earl farmed in the Colton area until 1973. He then worked for T & R Electric for 17 years before retiring.
Earl loved his family, especially spending time with them and the grandchildren. He was active in the community, serving on the Colton cemetery Board, American Legion, Deacon of the church and taught Sunday School for many years. He also enjoyed baseball, bowling, hunting, fishing, golf and woodworking.
Earl is survived by his wife, Jeanette Reurink Farr, Colton, four children: Nancy Coy, Sioux Falls; Lynn (Jim) Barenklau, Montrose; Mary (Craig) Clark, Ocala, FL and Larry Farr, Sioux Falls; a step-son, Brian (Linda) Reurink, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Arline Mustar, Easley, SC; a brother, Alvin (Grace) Farr, Hartford; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Farr, Colton.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carrie March 26, 1972;and two brothers, Willis and Cecil.

Glenn C. Iverson

Services for Glenn C. Iverson, 89, Rapid City, were held Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at South Maple United Methodist Church, Rapid City, with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial was in the Black Hills National cemetery. The Kirk Funeral Home, Rapid City, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Iverson died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at a local nursing home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1915, in Hettinger, N.D., to Iver and Anna (Voxland) Iverson. He grew up and attended country school at Doland. He served in the CCC program in the Custer area. He joined the United States Navy and served from 1941 to 1945 aboard the USS Phoenix in the Philippine Islands Theater.
He married Doris E. Deming Sept. 8, 1945, in Redfield and they became parents of two sons, James and Tommy.
He worked for the Homestake Mine in Lead for 10 years. They relocated to Rapid City in 1955 and he worked as a planning technician in Civil Service at Ellsworth Air Force Base for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
He “loved reading, television, helping others with projects and enjoying his good health. He also loved camping in the Black Hills.”
He was a member of South Maple United Methodist Church and the VFW.
Survivors include one son: Tom (Beth) Iverson, Rapid City; four grandchildren: Pam, Nancy, Nick and Steve; three great-grandchildren; and four nephews and five nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife (October 2004), his son, James, and daughter-in-law, Julie, his parents and four brothers.

Robert Dressen
(December 17, 1951 - November 16, 2012)

Robert “Bob” Francis Dressen was born on December 17, 1951 to Leonard and Mary (Randall) Dressen. He was raised on the family farm in rural Dell Rapids, SD. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in May 2010 and lost his fight on November 16, 2012 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD at the young age of 60 years old. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Eastside Baptist Church, 6101 E 49th St, Sioux Falls. Interment will follow at 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, at the Holland cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. Monday, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Eastside Baptist Church.
Bob graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1970 and married his high school sweetheart Angela Rae Skotvold on August 28, 1970. He was a self-employed farmer with Rollin D Farms from 1970 to 1996 where he produced both irrigated and dryland crops in addition to raising livestock. Then started his own heavy-haul trucking company, Rollin D Trucking, in 1996 and worked through June 2012. Bob loved and cherished his wife, together they raised their three children Carie Ann, Robert “Robby” John and Rochelle Lea. Bob worked with his dad, wife and kids on the farm. Bob was very innovative and mechanical. He loved tinkering with motors, especially his 1969 Chevelle.
Bob was very active in the farming community for most his life, participating in critical community programs including Skunk Creek Water Association, Minnehaha County Pork Producers and Northwestern College Radio Advisory Board where he held seat on the Executive Boards. He also was a member of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association.
Bob impacted the United States ‘green energy’ projects through his work with Rollin D Trucking where he hauled towers for the wind energy business. His loads were overweight, over height and over length. Even the complexities in hauling these towers did not intimidate Bob. He developed great friendships and earned the trust of many people that he worked with throughout the years.
Whether it was at work or at home, Bob’s advice and wisdom was always sought out. He was the guy to ask on almost everything. From engine problems, the best route to drive, algebra equations or just his opinion on something; his kids, friends and family knew Bob would have the answer. He loved to talk politics and share places that he had been or roads that he had traveled.
Bob truly enjoyed his family and cherished his time with them. He often took his wife Angela to the movies, including his favorite series, James Bond. He enjoyed dirtbiking trips with his son Robby and son-in-law Kyle. He loved refining the engine of his Chevelle with Robby and having Kyle paint the body. He lit up when his grandkids came to visit, always interested in what they were up to.
Bob will always be remembered for his warm smile, hearty laugh, gentle heart and his love for the Lord. Many will miss him immensely, but the legacy he left behind will keep his memory alive.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 42 years, Angela of Centerville, daughter Carie (Mike) Stiefvater and their children Hadley, Ella and Colton of Salem, SD, son Robby (Lori) Dressen and their children Kylie and Evan of Centerville, SD and daughter Rochelle (Kyle) Murphy and their children Kane and Elli of Dell Rapids, SD.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ross and Ethel Randall and John and Gertrude Dressen.

Jacob Uithoven
(May 13, 1929 - September 5, 2012)

Jacob Uithoven was born on May 13, 1929 to Markus and Carrie (Van Maanen) Uithoven in Rock County, Minnesota. He grew up in the Hartford and Colton, South Dakota areas. His father passed away when he was twelve and was very fortunate to have Gerrit John Topp as his stepfather. He married Dorothy Warnes December 16, 1947 in Colton. They lived on a farm 5 miles from Colton for 52 years and moved into Colton in 2002. Jake moved into the Dell Rapids nursing home in 2006 because of complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Jake was dedicated to providing for his family by farming and by working at both Northwestern Bank and John Morrells. Jake was a member of First Reformed Church, Colton. He enjoyed travel, roller skating, music, and visiting with both friends and strangers. Jake was a compassionate and caring man who was always willing to help people in time of need.
Jake died Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Avera Dells Area Health Center in Dell Rapids.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Dorothy Uithoven, Colton; children, Sherry Montoya (Sioux Falls, SD), Keith (Baltimore, MD), Darrel (Raleigh, NC), and Sandra Shumaker (Vermillion, SD); five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie Zuiderhof, April 27, 1985; and a son, Terry Uithoven, January 2, 1981.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2012 at First Reformed Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Elwood William Beidler

A mass of Christian burial for Elwood Beidler, 75, Orient, was held Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Polo, with Fr. John Helmueller officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Polo.
Mr. Beidler died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at the VA Medical Center, Sioux Falls.
He was born Feb. 4, 1929, at Robesonia, Pa., to Robert and Marion (Shell) Beidler. He attended school in Burkes County, Pennsylvania. At the age of 16 he came to South Dakota and worked as a farmhand for Jack Wilhelm. In 1948, he and his brother Carl began farming near Miranda.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served two years in Germany during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in May 1953 he returned to farm in Miranda.
He married Mary Ann Wieseler Nov. 8, 1955, at St. Liborius Catholic Church. They farmed in the Miranda area until 1962, when they moved to a farm four miles south of Orient, where they raised four sons and two daughters. In 1991 they moved to Polo where they re-sided until the time of his death.
He was a lifetime member of the Faulkton VFW for 42 years.

Alvin J. Beard

Alvin J. Beard, 81, died June 11, 2005. He was laid to rest May 26, 2006, at the Mt. Hope cemetery, Frankfort, with words of comfort by the Rev. Dean Manning.
Alvin J. Beard was born Aug. 25, 1923, on a farm north of Frankfort. He moved to Bremerton, Wash., in Septem-ber 1952, and died there.
Survivors include his wife: Norma, three daughters: Kathy, Gloria and Cindy; five grandchildren; and four brothers: Harvey and Kermit, Redfield, Dean, Rapid City, and Leonard, Eugene, Oregon.

Jerome Mathew Hoesing

Jerome Mathew Hoesing, age 21 of Coleridge, Nebraska, died at his residence on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. He is the son of Elmer and Jane Hoesing of Coleridge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge with the Rev. Jeff Loseke officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's cemetery in Coleridge.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge. Visitation will resume on Saturday one hour prior to services at church. Wintz Funeral Home of Coleridge is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Craig Frerichs, Lyle Van Cleave, Arthur Hoesing, Kristine Sparks, Shane Rose, Brian Kleinschmit, Bernard Hoesing, and Onya Dendinger.
Jerome Matthew Hoesing was born on July 31, 1987 in Yankton, SD to Elmer Jerome and Jane Mary (Hochstein) Hoesing. Jerome grew up on a farm in the Fordyce area until the age of 5 years and then moved to a farm in the Maskell area. His family lived there in Maskell for four years until moving to Coleridge in 1998. Jerome graduated from Coleridge High School in 2006. He was working on a farm north of Coleridge since he graduated. Jerome's hobbies were tinkering with small engine repair, fishing, collecting miniature tracters, and working on cars. He was a past member of the Coleridge Boy Scouts.
Jerome is survived by his parents, Elmer and Jane Hoesing of Coleridge; 2 sisters, Audrey and Melinda Hoesing of Coleridge; special friend, Kristen Kleinschmidt of Yankton, SD; maternal grandparents, Gerry and Frances Hochstein of Fordyce, NE; paternal grandparents, Fintan and Mary Jane Hoesing of Newcastle, NE; 5 aunts and 5 uncles, maternal great grandmother, Lillian Blaha of Wagner, SD.
preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather, Ralph Blaha; maternal great grandparents, Rudolph and Mary Hochstein; paternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hoesing, and Rudolph and Lucina Schulte.
