Arnold Raymond Lee

Arnold Raymond Lee, age 88, of Kalama, Washington, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by his family October 3, 2008, at the Hospice Care Center in Longview, Washington.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend David Wildermuth officiating. Inurnment will be in the Garden of Memories cemetery in Yankton, with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791.
Arnold was born June 5, 1920, in Yankton, South Dakota, to John and Johanna (Amuneson) Lee, farmers near Irene, South Dakota. He spent his first 82 years farming in South Dakota, mostly near Gayville and Yankton, and serving his country during World War II. A decorated World War II veteran, Sergeant Lee served with the OSS behind enemy lines, making several parachute jumps during his time in the Army. He married Florence Schramm on June 14, 1947, in Yankton and were married for 61 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a friend of many, always ready with a joke and smile. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling.
He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Center, VFW, Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton and the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).
He is survived by his wife Florence of Kalama, Washington; four children, twins, Patsy Fodness of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Nancy (Larry) Hylarides of Le Sueur, Minnesota, David (Charlotte) Lee of Salem, Oregon, and Judy (Steve) Young of Kalama, Washington; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Darrell, Maurice and Vernon Lee; and sister Twila Jensen.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Community Home Health and Hospice at P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632 or to the Kalama Fire Department at P.O. Box 280, Kalama, WA 98625.

Emma L. Baker

Emma L. Baker, age 103 years 11 months and 2 days, of Yankton, South Dakota, and formerly of Pukwana, South Dakota, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Pukwana Lutheran Church in Pukwana, South Dakota, with Reverend Duane Neugebauer officiating. The Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Yankton is in charge of the arrangements.
Emma was born December 31, 1904, in Buffalo County, South Dakota, to Peter and Caroline (Westphal) Petersen. She graduated from Grann Valley High School and attended Eastern Normal School in Madison, South Dakota. She was very proud of the fact that prior to raising her family she taught rural schools in Buffalo County for several years. She married Lester L. Baker on January 5, 1930. They farmed and ranched near Shelby Store in Buffalo County for 34 years. After Lester's death Emma moved to Chamberlain, then to Mitchell, and for the last 11 years she lived with a daughter and family in Yankton. She was a long time member of Pukwana Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Betty Sharping of Raymond, Nebraska and DeEtt (Raymond) Willard of Yankton; son, James (Margery) Baker of Ames, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; four brothers, Edward, Henry, William, and Gustav; five sisters, Marie Reese, Minnie Wells, Henrietta Rasmusson, Hulda Irving, and Kate Petersen; son-in-law, Lynden Sharping; and an infant grand daughter.

Art Armstrong

MORRIS, Minn. — Funeral services for Art Armstrong, 81, Morris, formerly of Big Stone City, S.D., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Ortonville. The Rev. Richard Boehnke will officiate. Organist will be Pat Kunz. Vocalists will be Randy and Jessica Fischer.
Burial will be in Morris at the Summit cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, his great-grandchildren and the Joygivers. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeff and Joel Johnson, Randy Fischer and Jeremy, Jason, Shawn, Michael and Dan Armstrong.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.
Mr. Armstrong died Monday, March 6, 2000, at a medical center in Morris.
Arthur Roy Armstrong was born Nov. 4, 1918, to Arthur James and Clara (Smith) Armstrong at Swanville. He married Mildred Hess at Graceville Jan. 14, 1939.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Johnson of Brainerd; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Rosie of Carver and Ricky and Beverly of Waconia; five sisters-in-law, Laurel of Glenwood, Marjie of Morris, Mary Roske of Herman, Dorothy Harbeke of Page, N.D., and Gert Beyer of Dumon; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Glen Otto

Services for Glen Otto, 84, Tulare, were held Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at the Tulare United Church, Tulare, with the Rev. James Waisanen officiating. Burial was in St. John’s cemetery near Tulare. The Thelen Funeral Home, Redfield, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were all the grandchildren of the deceased.
Mr. Otto died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at his home near Tulare.
He was born April 6, 1920, to Gunther and Marie (Clark) Otto on their farm near Tulare. He attended Tulare and Redfield schools.
He married Luella Hopkins Dec. 13, 1948, and they farmed together for nearly 50 years before her death in 1996. He continued living on the farm and “enjoyed his daily drives around the section.”
Glen’s “pride and joy were his grandchildren and he enjoyed watching their sporting and school events. He enjoyed gardening and was proud of the trees he had planted. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and his three weekly card nights.”
He was a member of the Tulare Sportsman Club, St. John’s Church, the Tulare school board and the Spink County FSA Committee board. He was also a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his children and their families: Mrs. Larry (Kathy) Kohnen, Hitch-cock and children, Mrs. Rex (Sherry) Binger and family: Jennifer, Stephanie, Ashley and Paige, and Travis (Beth) Koh-nen and family: Kyle, Kole and Kordel; Bonnie Siebrecht, Aberdeen, and her family: Kelly, Kevin and Kyla; and David (Lisa) Otto, Tulare, and their family: Dustin and his daughter Ashlyn, Devan and her daughter Dannyn Peterson and Dawsyn; two brothers: Dean Otto, St. Paul, Minn., and Jimmy Otto, Tulare; and one sister: Phyllis Ehrich, Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother: Dale.

Velva Degner

Velva Mae “Bunny” Degner, 81, Salem, formerly of Watertown, died Monday, March 6, 2000, in Salem.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church at Salem.
Burial will be in the Wildwood cemetery at Salem.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Kinzley Funeral Home at Salem with a prayer service Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church.
Velva Mae Grose was born Aug. 26, 1918, in Watertown to R. Francis and Martha Grose. She married Francis Degner Dec. 19, 1942, in Watertown.
Survivors include her husband of Salem; one son, Mark, of Hillsboro, Ore.; two daughters, Roberta Olson of Burnsville, Minn., and Jill Christopherson of Eau Claire, Wis.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanne Enstad of Duluth, Minn.

Otto Tober

ORTONVILE, Minn. — Funeral services for Otto Tober, 86, Ortonville, will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beardsley with the Rev. Richard Boehnke officiating. Music will be presented by organist Kathy Issendorf and soloist Jerri Homrighausen.
Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery in Odessa. Pallbearers will be Don Tesch, LeRoy Schoon, Bill Stallman, Jeroy Haukos, Gale May and Dean Eastman.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. sharing time with the family at the Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. Visitation will continue Friday at the church one hour prior to the services.
Otto Tober died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000.
He was born April 11, 1913, to Jacob and Alvina (Witt) Tober at Roberts County, S.D. He married Leona Minners Oct. 11, 1940.
Survivors include his wife of Ortonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marlys and Gary Homrighausen of Ortonville and Lynette and Randy Walker of Burnsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Ardelle of Long Lake and Dwight and Loa of Bismarck, N.D.; two sisters, Emma Eastman of Excelsior and Agnes May of New Hope; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vi Tober of Trade Lake, Wis.; and two brothers-in-law, Stan Serocki of Beardsley and Art Bruss of Little Canada.

Marvin J. Sudbeck

Marvin J. Sudbeck, age 84, of Bow Valley, Nebraska, died on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 10:30 am at Holy Family (Sts Peter and Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley with Rev. Michael Keating officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery with military services conducted by the Wynot American Legion Post 31. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 3:00 pm and a vigil service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation on Tuesday will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Sudbeck, Ben Hochstein, Will Koch, Danny Goeden, Charlie Sudbeck, and Roman Sudbeck.
Marvin was born on February 10, 1924 on the family farmstead near Bow Valley to Victor and Johanna (Feilmeier) Sudbeck. He grew up on the family farm and attended Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School in Bow Valley. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1947. He married Rita Jansen on August 27, 1947 in Menominee, NE. They farmed just west of Bow Valley for 40 years. While farming, he also worked for Neu Cheese in Hartington for 25 years. Upon leaving Neu Cheese he then worked for the Cedar County Road Department. He served as an officer for the German Mutual Farmers Insurance Company for many years. He coached numerous Bow Valley baseball teams while his children were young. He loved baseball, playing cards, and being with his friends and family.
Marvin was a member of the Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Holy Name Society, and the Wynot American Legion Post 31.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Rita, of Bow Valley; 11 children and their spouses; Lois and Warner Wong of Seattle, Washington; Marty and Deb Sudbeck of Bow Valley; Dona and Gary Clune of Lakehills, Texas; Bill Sudbeck of St. Paul, Minnesota; Vicky and Maurice Koch of St. James; Kay Sudbeck of Lincoln, Nebraska; Rowland Sudbeck of Bow Valley; Rhea and Roy Hochstein of Bennet, Nebraska; Dwight Sudbeck of Bloomfield; Tom and Julie Sudbeck of Yankton; and Marlow Sudbeck of Rush City, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a brother, Orville Sudbeck of Bow Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Geralyn, a son, John, a brother, Joe Sudbeck, and a sister, LaVern Goeden.

Wilma D. Promes

Wilma D. Promes, age 73, of Hartington, NE died on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 10:30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 4:00 pm and a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Allen Leise, Jerry Leise, Larry Leise, Mike Promes, Keith Promes, and Gary Brewer.
Wilma was born on May 29, 1935 at Brighton, Colorado to Bill and Frances (Farmer) Timm. She grew up in Brighton on a farm and graduated from Brighton High School in 1953. She attended Denver Community College for 2 years. On May 26, 1962 she married George P. Promes in Denver. They lived in Denver for a short time and then moved to Lakewood, Colorado where she worked as a bookkeeper. They moved to Hartington in 2002 and she has been a resident of the Golden Living Center in Hartington since May 27, 2008. Wilma enjoyed her annual trip to Las Vegas and especially loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, the Guild, and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Wilma is survived by her husband, George, of Hartington; a brother, Robert Timm and his wife, Pam, of Holy Oak, CO; 3 sisters and their spouses; Helen and Robert Wilson of Lakewood, CO; Edna and Arthur Egan of Brighton, CO; Kathy and Jim Rose of Fort Collins, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Ann Rowe.

Norma Mockler

Norma Jean Mockler, 67, of Burbank, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital in Vermillion.

Lloyd Clark

VOLGA — Lloyd Alva Clark, 91, Volga, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at a Brookings hospital.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Watertown with the Rev. Joel Higgins officiating. Music will be presented by organist Dorothy Brugman and soloist Don Seim.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny and Louise Johnson, Dan and Karen Kannas, Bob and June Else, Freddie Moore and Chester Maack. Active pallbearers will be Roger Clark, Milt Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Wayne Bartunick, Keith Jennings and Tom Larson.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel and Friday at the church prior to the services. There will be a public service of remembrance tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel. The family is requested to meet Friday at the church by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Lloyd Clark was born Aug. 21, 1908, to Charles Alva and Minnie (Hogie) Clark in Deuel County. He married Jeraldine Shultz Feb. 16, 1942, in De Smet.
Survivors include his wife of Volga; a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Brett Woolworth of Volga; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Diva Irene Wells

Diva Irene Wells, 7 month old daughter of Dawn Wells and Daryl Lammers of Sioux Falls, died on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
A private family service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at 11:00 am at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery in Bow Valley. Services under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, NE.
Pallbearers will be Bob Nissen and Lucas Lauer.
Diva Irene Wells was born on May 5, 2008 in Sioux Falls, SD to Daryl T. "Buddy" Lammers and Dawn Wells.
Survivors include her parents, Daryl T. "Buddy" Lammers and Dawn M. Wells; two sisters, Taylor Carver (13 yrs), Desmend Wells (2); two brothers, Wells Buchanan (6) and Dominic Wells (4); paternal grandparents, Daryl and Joan Lammers of Bow Valley, NE; maternal grandparents, Duane Wells of Akaska, SD and Theresa Wells of Yankton, SD; maternal great grandmother, Anna Mae Reede of Akaska, SD.
