Marguerite Kisner

Marguerite Kisner, age 74, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev. Jeffery S. Loseke officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service and Video Tribute at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials will be given for breast cancer research.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren Meghan Sims, Charles Bauer, Collin Bauer, Brian Johnston, Nicholas Johnston, Ashley Johnston, Jamie Becker, and Jenny Becker. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren; Madeline Sims, Lia Sims, Taylor, Haley, Leah, and Kenli Becker.
Marguerite was born on March 30, 1934 at Hartington to Archie and Anna (Augustine) McGregor. She grew up in Hartington and graduated from Hartington High School in 1951. She worked in the Cedar County Treasurers office until moving to Baltimore in1953. It was there that she met Kenneth L. Kisner. They were married on May 1, 1954 at Hartington. After their marriage they moved to Omaha where Marguerite devoted her life to raising her family. She was a very good neighbor and loved to sew and play cards. She belonged to several bridge clubs and was an active member of St. James Catholic Church and School. She later became a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Omaha, 4 daughters; Tonia and Chuck Bauer of Annapolis, MD, Deb Johnston of Omaha, Barb and Rollie Becker of Hartington, Kathy Howard of Roseau, MN, 8 grandchildren; Meghan Sims, Charles and Collin Bauer, Brian, Nicholas, and Ashley Johnston, Jamie Becker and his wife Tammy, and Jenny Becker, 6 great grandchildren; Madeline and Lia Sims, Taylor, Haley, Leah and Kenli Becker, 2 sisters; Norma Jean and John McCarthy of Bellevue, NE, and Marilyn and Gus Pick of Hartington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandchildren; Laura and Kyle Becker, and a great grandson, Nicholas Johnston Jr.

Wilfred “Bill” Belau

Services for Wilfred “Bill” Belau, 89, Miranda, recently of Lakeside Healthcare, Redfield, were held Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Rockham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Hedman officiating. Burial was in the Miranda cemetery. The Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Earl Sprague, David Grottke, Tom Strasburg, Jim Becker, Dan Melius and Mike Grunewaldt. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Hoffman, Darold Vetter, Dale Wilkinson, Willard Hoffman, Gail O’Donnell and Dale Oakley.
The organist was Verna Hoffman and the vocalist, Teri Grottke. The pianist was Tonya Vilhauer.
Mr. Belau died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.
He was born Dec. 21, 1915, in the home place at Miranda to William Andrew and Joyce (Seibert) Belau. As a teen he was a member of the Faulk County Chorus, traveling to such places as Detroit, Mich. He was a member of Miranda Methodist Church, attending faithfully when possible. He also was a lifelong farmer with Belau Brothers of Miranda.
Survivors include two sisters: Marguerite (Belau) Grottke, Rockford, Ill., and Kathyleen (Belau) Werner, Rockham; four nephews: Roydean (Teri) Grottke and Rondell (Paulette) Grottke, both of Miranda, Dennis (Janet) Grottke, Rockford, Ill., and James (Lily) Werner, Rockham; and several great-nieces, one great-nephew and one great-great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Lawrence Belau and Gordon Belau, and one nephew: LeRoy Werner.

Doris Hawkins

Funeral services for Doris E. Hawkins, 93, Belle Fourche, formerly of Watertown, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Watertown with the Rev. Greg Berkey officiating. Music will be presented by organist Eloise Falk and soloist Shelly Lyon.
Burial will be in the Mount Hope cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan and Tom Detore and Tim, Lane, Lance and Bob Hawkins.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sogn-Messer Funeral Home. Relatives are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Doris Hawkins died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at a Belle Fourche care center.
She was born March 23, 1906, to Clarence M. and Cora B. (Strickler) Wing near Troy in Grant County. She married Samuel E. Hawkins June 10, 1925, at Hendricks, Minn.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Valerie of Belle Fourche and Don and Joan of Watertown; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Woody Woodbury of Vallejo, Calf.; a daughter-in-law, Marianne Hawkins of El Paso, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Shirley Pembrook

Shirley J. Pembrook, age 77, of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial of her ashes will be at a later date at the Wakefield cemetery in Wakefield, NE.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington and also on Monday one hour prior to services.

Fern Paulson

Fern Paulson, age 94, of Yankton, South Dakota died Monday, January 22, 2007 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, on Friday, January 26, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with the Reverend David Lund officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories cemetery in Yankton. Visitation with the family present is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, on Thursday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Pallbearers are Randy Kuchta, Rick Kuchta, Ross Kuchta, John Kabeiseman, Tim Paulson and Steve Willis. Honorary pallbearers are Scot Willis and Tom Fitzgerald.
Fern was born September 7, 1912 at Hobson, Missouri to Alfred and Mandy (Summers) Miley. Fern grew up in Missouri and the family moved to South Dakota when she was a teenager. On June 19, 1934, she married Harry Paulson in Yankton. They farmed west of Yankton until Harry died in 1962. Fern was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Busy Bee Home Extension Club. She also was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and she led the Riverview Hustlers 4-H Club for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois (Edward) Kezar of Eden, North Carolina and Phyllis Dodds of Enid, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law, Delight Paulson of Yankton; six grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary House of Valencia, California; a special niece, Mary (Gerald) Kuchta; and many other nieces and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; son, Eldean Paulson; and three brothers, Elmer, Oscar and Elva Miley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton Senior Citizens Center or Avera Sister James Care Center.

Milton Voigt

AVON -- Milton L. Voigt, 85, of Avon died Monday (Dec. 19, 2005) at the Good Samaritan Center, Tyndall.

Walter "Joe" Brewer

Walter "Joe" Brewer, of Shakopee, Minnesota and a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe, died on October 26, 2008 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee at 85 years young.
Funeral services are 2:30 PM, on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend Marlene Whiterabbit Helgemo officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton cemetery with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Services were also held on Tuesday at the Tiowakan Spiritual Center at the Mdewakanton Sioux Community in Prior Lake, MN.
Joe was born on April 8, 1923 in Yankton, South Dakota to John Francis and Estella (Bails) Brewer. After serving his country in the Army, he lived and worked on his farm at Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Reservation since 1956. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4046 in Shakopee, and the V.F.W. and American Legion in Arizona. He enjoyed playing several musical instruments, as well as being a jack of all trades, including building his own home for his wife, Lois and six children. After raising his first family, he was remarried to his current wife, Doris Suvanto. They both enjoyed winters in Arizona, going to dances weekly, golfing and attending church services. He enjoyed the company of his 22 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
Walter will be deeply missed by his wife, Doris; daughter, Susan Totenhagen and her husband, Terry, of Shakopee, MN; sons, Marvin Brewer of Shakopee, MN, and William Brewer, Sr., of Shakopee, MN; sister, June Sousley of Versailles, Missouri; and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Brewer; parents; 7 brothers; 2 sisters; daughter, Linda "Brewer" Crosby; son, Joseph Brewer; daughter, Teresa Brewer; stepson, Randy Zerr; stepdaughter, Tammy Schroers; grandsons, Zachary "Brewer" Mahoney, and Richard Anglo; and great-granddaughter, Miakoda Brewer.

Vera Mae Hively

Vera Mae Hively, age 83 of Hartington, NE, died on Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, NE.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hartington with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial will be in the Hartington City cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Thursday at church one hour prior to services.

S. Rita Fitterer OSB

S. Rita Fitterer OSB, age 88, died Friday, February 20, 2009 in the Monastery Care Center Sacred Heart Monastery, Yankton SD.
A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009 in Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel, Yankton. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.
Rose Fitterer was born January 7, 1921 to Marcus and Katherine (Ehrmantraut) Fitterer on the family farm near Almont, North Dakota. She was the oldest of sixteen children. The family home burned down when she was only five weeks old. She attended country school through the eighth grade. The financial difficulties of the depression prevented her from attending high school. At the age of nine she had a desire to be a religious sister, but her father said she was too young and should wait several years while helping out with the farm work. In January of 1942 she was finally able to enter Sacred Heart Monastery. She became a novice in June, 1943 receiving the name, Rita. She made her first profession in 1944 and final profession in 1948. Her ministry included many years in food service at schools in Fort Yates, ND, York, NE, Stephan and Tabor, SD, Mount Marty College, at hospitals in Parkston and Tyndall, SD and Lincoln, NE, at Bishop's residences in Bismarck, ND and Sioux Falls, SD, and in the kitchen and the infirmary kitchen at the monastery. S. Rita was a very soft spoken woman with a dry sense of humor who enjoyed gardening and growing plants. She also enjoyed riding a horse when the monastery activity director would bring her horses for the sisters to ride and pet.
S. Rita is survived by her Benedictine community; seven sisters: Minnie Krause, Elizabeth Reisenaur, Regina Samek, Florence Dougherty, Eva Wheeler, Marian Staton and Magdeline Felton; and three brothers: Alphonse, Sylvester, and Mark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Katherine Heck and S. Damian Fitterer OSB, and two siblings in infancy.

Gerald Smith

LOVELAND, Colo. -- Gerald "Gerry" Smith of Loveland, lost his battle with cancer on March 29, 2005, at North Shore Manor. Mr. Smith was born January 5, 1936, to Earl and Ila Smith at Conde, SD. He lived on a farm and attended Brentford School and there he met his wife of 50 years.

S. Faith Sitzmann OSB

S. Faith Sitzmann OSB, 86, died January 13, 2009 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton.
A wake service will be held on Thursday, January 15th at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 16th at 11 a.m. in Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery.
Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.
Eunice Catherine Sitzmann was born near Kingsley, Iowa on December 2, 1922 to George and Mary (Carel) Sitzmann. She was the ninth in a family of 10 girls and 3 boys. Seven of the girls and two of the boys were to enter religious communities. She attended a rural, one-room elementary school near the family home in Plymouth County, IA. She then attended Mount Marty High School in Yankton and joined the Yankton Benedictines following her graduation in 1940. She became a novice in 1941 and received the name of S. Faith. Her first profession was in June, 1942 and her final profession in 1945.
S. Faith earned a B.A. degree from Mount Marty College and a M.A. degree in Education Administration from Loyola University in Chicago. Her ministry included teaching elementary students in Farmer, Aberdeen, Yankton and Sioux Falls, SD in addition to being principal at Farmer, Yankton, Little Flower School and Christ the King School in Sioux Falls. She then served as principal of Mount Marty High School. She became the first Director of Education for the Diocese of Sioux Falls in 1969. Later she served at Creighton University and Holy Ghost Parish in Omaha, at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, and at Mount Marty College.
S. Faith was a woman of quick wit who loved life and new adventures. She delighted in taking "the road less traveled."
S. Faith is survived by her Benedictine community, and three sisters: Ruth Morrissey, Kingsley, IA; Marlys Koopman, LeMars, IA; and S. Rosalie Sitzmann OSB, Watertown, SD as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.
Memorial may be directed to the Sitzmann Family Scholarship at Mount Marty College, Yankton, SD.

Adam Lee Thompson
(March 19, 1996 - May 23, 2012)

Adam Lee Thompson, 16, of Baltic died suddenly Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home due to natural causes.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Baltic Lutheran Church, Baltic. Visitation will be from 3-7:00 PM Saturday with the family present from 5-7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Adam Lee was born March 19, 1996 in Sioux Falls to parents Troy and Ann (Lunde) Thompson. He grew up in Baltic and was a freshman this last year at Baltic High School. Adam loved music, riding his dirt bike and scooter, going camping, eating tacos and being with his family and friends.
Adam was a member of Baltic Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Troy and Ann Thompson, Baltic, his sister, Abby, at home, his grandparents, Larry and Betty Thompson, Baltic; and Don and Bev Lunde, Wilmot, SD, numerous aunts and uncles and his two cousins.

FLIPPIN, Ark. -- Shirley Joyce Habeck, 46, of Flippin, Arkansas, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning (November 14, 2005) at her home.
