Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

Bonnie Belle Fritz, 72, Sturgis, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A family prayer service will begin at 5 p.m.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday May 13, 2008 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Mike Fox officiating. Burial follows at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
Bonnie was born March 14, 1936, at Isabel to Sam and Martha (Mundt) Goetz. She married Christian Adam Fritz on June 3, 1952. They were married for 56 years.
Bonnie loved babies and children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved reading, singing, baking, and caring for her indoor potted plants. She also loved having fun in Deadwood. She made the best caramel rolls, peanut butter balls and apple dumplings, ever.
Survivors include her husband Chris, Sturgis; two daughters, Cheryl Brewer, Belle Fourche, Beckie (Marty) Geffre, Sturgis; granddaughter, Bethaney (Tom) Stewart; grandsons, Adam and Andrew Geffre; great grandchildren, Ashtin and Tommy Stewart; brothers, Victor Goetz, Coeur d'alene, ID, Jesse Goetz, Bayview, ID; sisters, Genevieve "Genny" Knecht, Garden Grove, CA.
We love you and miss you. We will never forget you.

Carolina Fern (Brown) Roberts

May 23, 1925 - May 6, 2008

Friday, May 9, 2008 at 1:00 pm

Carolina Fern (Brown) Roberts, 82, Whitewood died at Spearfish, SD on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Visitation will be Thursday, May 8, 2008, from noon until 9:00 pm and one hour prior to service at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be Friday May 9, 2008, at 1:00 pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD with Pastor Steve Agan officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Carolina was born at Sturgis, SD on May 23, 1925 to Joseph and Bertha (Collins) Fonck. She grew up in Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1942. She worked for the Meade County ASCS office and was married to Raymond James Brown at Whitewood, SD on Feb 3, 1946. Carolina worked for Montana Dakota Utilities for 10 years and served as Meade County Clerk of Courts for 21 years prior to her retirement in 1985.
Raymond Brown preceded her in death in 1979 and she was later married to Mick Roberts at Pierre, SD on June 2, 1990. They have lived in Whitewood since 1990.
Carolina was a member of the Black Hills Pioneer Society, American Legion and VFW Auxiliary, Moose Lodge Aux. of Belle Fourche.
Survivors include her husband, Mick Roberts of Whitewood; one brother, Fredrick "Fritz" Fonck of Sturgis; one nephew, Floyd Casteel of Sturgis; two nieces Twila Young of Clovis, Calif. and Bertha Proctor of Black Hawk, SD; a step-son Jay L. Roberts of Deadwood, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond, her parents, one sister, two half brothers and two half sisters.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Georgia Ann Howie

February 22, 1929 - May 2, 2008

May 8, 2008 at 1:30 p.m.

Georgia Ann Howie, 79, White Owl, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008, at her residence in White Owl, SD.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Harold Delbridge and Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will be at the White Owl Cemetery at 3:45 p.m.
Georgia was born February 22, 1929 in Norfolk, NE, to Louis and Grace (Hoggatt) Moravec. She attended school in Minatare and Gering, NE, and came to visit family in the Sulphur area in South Dakota as a young girl. This is where she met and later married Raymond Howie on Sept 18, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. They lived in Whitewood from 1950-1955 at which time they moved to the family ranch at White Owl, which they still operate today.
Georgia was a very thoughtful, caring wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was very active with the White Owl Cemetery, White Owl Community Center, Ladies Club at White Owl, the Enning Library and the Faith Stock Show. Georgia will be missed by her family and everyone she touched. She will be remembered for her love of sewing, embroidering quilting and gardening, and the many delicious meals she prepared for brandings, shearing and family gatherings. She was strongly involved in all aspects of 4-H activities, as a 40 yr club leader, volunteer and she helped start the Meade Co. 4-H Rodeo.
Survivors include her loving husband, Raymond, White Owl; three sons Andy (Tresa) of Newell, SD, Ron (Kerry) and Mike (Linda) of White Owl.; three sisters Neoma Kaye (Ken) of Colorado Springs, CO, Mickie McChesney of Florence, CO, and Jinger Stuckey (Mel) of Thorton, CO; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a special great niece, Beki; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one brother in law, and one grandson.
Memorials have been established to the Meade County 4-H and the Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Bobby D Peterson

July 24, 1932 - April 30, 2008

Bobby D. Peterson, 75, Sturgis, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be Friday from noon until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Graveside rites will be held Monday, May 5, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Bear Butte Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel prior to 9:45 a.m.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating.
Bobby was born July 24, 1932, in Meade County, SD, to Carl O. and Minnie A. (Thygesen) Peterson. He grew up east of Sturgis. Bobby graduated from Sturgis High School in 1949. He married Clara Beth Simons in Sturgis on June 4, 1951. They lived on the family ranch north of Volunteer, SD, until 1977 when they moved to Sturgis. Bobby attended a cabinetry trade school. Bobby owned and operated Peterson Oil Company until his retirement.
Bobby was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a deacon and a leader at the church. He served on the Meade County Fair Board and the School Board. He was a 4-H leader for several years. Bobby also served on the Farmer's Home Administration Board of Directors. He and Clara Beth enjoyed square dancing and belonged to several square dance clubs. Bobby also enjoyed wood-working, which became a life-long hobby.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Beth Peterson, Sturgis; one son, Kevin (DeeDee) Peterson, Gillette, WY; three daughters, Nancy (Larry) Carpenter, Sturgis, LuAnn (Dave) Carlson, Sioux Falls, SD, and Ila (Steve) Kool, Brookings, SD; one brother, Billy D. Peterson, Sturgis; ten grandchildren, Amber Carpenter, Denver, CO, Annette Carpenter, Washington, DC, Zach (Sharon) Peterson, Sturgis, Krystal Peterson, Gillette, WY, Andrew Carlson, Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer (Jon) Schreurs, Tyler, MN, Laura Carlson, Minneapolis, MN, and Scott, Stuart, and Sam Kool, Brookings, SD; one great-grandson, Dysen Peterson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials have been established to the First Presbyterian Church, Special Olympics, and the Meade County Senior Citizen's Center.

Mae Kersten Garrett

May 25, 1926 - April 22, 2008

Mae K. Garrett, 81, Sturgis, SD, died at the Sturgis Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
Visitation will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Mae Kersten Garrett was born May 25, 1926, at Deadwood, SD, to Hans Skak and Ida (Matthesen) Pedersen. During her young years, Mae lived in multiple Black Hills communities including St. Onge, Rapid City, and Sturgis. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1945 and Black Hills State College in 1949 with a degree in English and Speech.
After graduating from college, Mae accepted a teaching assignment in Sundance, WY. There, she met her husband of 57 years; E. Chester Garrett.
In 1959, Mae and Chet purchased a ranch north of Sturgis and built their first home. Mae and Chet started their family in 1960 when Linda was born; the first of 3 children, followed by Nancy in 1963 and Bill in 1967.
Mae has always loved living in the community of Sturgis and the First Presbyterian Church in which she was very active. In 1999, Mae was voted outstanding Senior Presbyterian. At First Presbyterian, she served on Church Session, Chaired the Evangelism/Membership Committee, and served as a Deacon. She led numerous Bible studies, chaired the Presbyterian Women Honorary Membership Committee, and helped with home communion and Meals on Wheels. She was also active in community organizations, including the Sturgis Area Arts Council, Sturgis Women's Literary Club, and Eastern Star.
Mae loved art, especially watercolor in which she was very talented. Mae's paintings have won multiple awards and have been displayed during shows and exhibits by many organizations throughout the Hills. Mae especially enjoyed creating art that had direct ties to her family or her past, then presenting these works as gifts to members of the family.
Survivors include her husband, Chester "Chet" Garrett of Sturgis; two daughters, Linda (Hunter) Bachand of Federal Way, WA, and Nancy (Herb) Ulrich of Sturgis. SD; one son, Bill (Tina) Garrett of Pittsboro, NC; four grandchildren, Timmy and Jeanny Ulrich of Sturgis and Claire and Jacob Garrett of Pittsboro, NC; two great-grandchildren, Kaydence Ulrich and Kamea Ulrich of Sturgis; two sisters, Betty and her late husband, Doug Bell of Spearfish, SD, and Joann Pederson of Rapid City, SD; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents.

Mollie Pauley

March 29, 1914 - April 22, 2008

Service was held:

Saturday April 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.

Mollie Marie Pauley, 94, Sturgis, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008. A family prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday April 26, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis with Pastor Roger Crowhurst officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. at the Vale Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church.
Mollie was born March 29, 1914 in Russia to John William and Ann Elizabeth (Adams) Pauley.
She immigrated to the United States in 1928 with her parents. She attended school and worked on the family farm where they grew sugar beets.
Mollie married Jona Pauley on January 20, 1933 at Bridgeport, NE.
The couple lived in Scottsbluff, NE, for a year before moving to Vale, SD, where they farmed until 1935 when they returned to Scottsbluff. They moved back to Vale in 1940 and Mollie worked at the Sturgis Hospital where she was head of laundry and housekeeping for 15 years. She retired in 1976. Mollie enjoyed cooking ethnic German recipes for family and friends.
Mollie was a member of the First Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary, the Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary and the Meade County Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include her son Dale Eugene (Charlotte) Pauley, Claremore, OK, two granddaughters, Trudee (Bill) Coughlin, Evergreen, CO, Wendee (Rod) Henry, Claremore, OK; great grandchildren, Taylor Coughlin, Boulder, CO, Kara Coughlin, Evergreen, CO, Zachary Henry, Ashley Henry, both of Claremore, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews in Germany and the United States.
Mollie was preceded in death by her husband Jona in 1992; 2 sons, Jona James and William "Billy"; one daughter, Jennifer Carol; one brother William and three sisters.

Jerold P. "Jerry" O'Donnell

November 15, 1947 - April 22, 2008

Service was held:

Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.

Jerold P. O'Donnell, 60, Sturgis, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a wake beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating.
Jerry was born November 15, 1947, in Ft. Pierre, SD, to Pat and Nancy (Sandland) O'Donnell. He grew up in Ft. Pierre and graduated from Ft. Pierre High School. He spent his entire life ranching and trucking. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1967. Following his honorable discharge, Jerry returned to South Dakota and ranched in the Ft. Pierre, Eagle Butte, and Faith area for the next 30 years. He married Loretta Hahne in Rapid City on January 21, 1991. They moved to Sturgis in the mid 1990's.
Jerry was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards and watching TV.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta O'Donnell, Sturgis, and her 10 children; 45 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Loretta's son, Daryl; and an infant brother.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

John M. Van Schoonhoven

September 20, 1924 - July 15, 2008

John M. Van Schoonhoven, 83, Rapid City, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the VA Black Hills Health Care System at Fort Meade.
He was born September 20, 1924, at Colome, SD, to Walter and Effie (Billings) Van Schoonhoven. He attended country school where he received his education. He joined the Army in 1949 and served during the Korean War.
Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to South Dakota where he married Leona Bennett at Winner, SD on May 28, 1955. They lived in Winner, SD, for five years before moving to Rapid City, where John worked for the RC Water Department until his retirement in 1989.
John was a member of the Open Bible Christian Center in Rapid City. He loved hunting and working with wood.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Van Schoonhoven, Rapid City; two sons, Jim (Wendy) Van Schoonhoven, Williams, OR, and Tim Van Schoonhoven, Rapid City, SD; one brother, Walter Van Schoonhoven, Sparks, NV; one sister, Vera Van Schoonhoven, Winner, SD; two grandsons; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and one sister.
As per John's request, no services are planned. Inurnment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

George P. Bondora

August 30, 1923 - July 15, 2008

Friday, July 18, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.

George P. Bondora, 84, Piedmont, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Black Hills Health Care Center at Fort Meade.
Visitation will be from noon until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Mr. Larry Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.
George was born August 30, 1923, at Chicago, IL, to Paul and Pauline (Velcek) Bondora. He was raised and went to school with his three sisters and two brothers. When he was 17 years old, he went to the C.C.'s. He traveled and worked in forestry. After returning from this program, he joined the US Army and served his country from 1943 until 1945. George was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his honorable discharge, he returned home where he married Betty Severson on January 12, 1946, in Chicago, IL.
The couple lived in Chicago before moving to Brandon, SD, in 1948. George worked in construction. They returned to Chicago for another 8 years, but eventually settled in Brandon again. George worked for the State of South Dakota and was employed by ASAP (Alcohol Safety Action Program). He was transferred to Rapid City ASAP in 1974 and was with them until 1977. He then worked at the Northern Alcohol Referral Center in Sturgis from 1978 until 1991 and was an independent, certified DUI Instructor and Counselor.
George was a member of the Rapid City Propbusters remote control Airplane Club from 1992 to 2000, where he enjoyed building flying and occasionally crashing.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bondora, Piedmont; three sons, Richard Bondora, Wax, KY, George (Laurie) Bondora, Upton, WY, and Duane (Vickie) Bondora, Broomfield, CO; one daughter, Sheree (Dennis) Bernal, Rapid City, one sister, Helen Gruel, Valparaiso, IN; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, two sisters, two brothers, and one grandson
A memorial has been established.
The family wishes to thank the VA Health Care System Home Health and the VA Hospice Unit for the excellent care that they provided to George.

Gerald Spitler

May 10, 1955 - July 12, 2008

Service was held:

Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 9:00 a.m.

Gerald Allen (Spider) Spitler, 53, of Hot Springs, SD, died Saturday July 12, 2008 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. A graveside committal is scheduled for 9:00 am Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Michigan at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Gerald is survived by his parents, Gerald A. and Dorothy (Amos) Spitler of Corunna, MI; one sister, Janet Skoog of Houston, TX; two brothers, Duane (Marilyn) Spitler of Jacksonville, FL and Tom Spitler of Tampa, FL; and four nieces and nephews.
