Linda Carol Stephens

Linda Carol Stephens, 66, of Redfield, SD, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral will be Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. After the services Linda will be cremated and her ashes will be buried in Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Linda was born December 9, 1944 in Redfield to Ben and Dorothy (Simons) Radcliffe. She attended Tulare school and graduated from Huron High School. She attended Dakota Wesleyan College before she married Floyd “Ole” Stephens in Pipestone, MN. They lived in Hitchcock for a short time before moving to Redfield. Linda worked at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield for thirty-four years before retiring.
She enjoyed reading, sewing and knitting and especially spending time with her grandchildren, her sisters and of course her cat, Sparkles.
Linda is survived by her husband Floyd of Redfield; her son Mark (Tracy) Stephens of Brandon, SD and their daughters Malle and Kylie; her daughter Kari Peterman of Frankfort, SD and her children: Amber (Josh Root) and their daughter Kinley, Ryan and Lane Peterman. She is also survived by her father Ben (Del) Radcliffe of Huron, SD; her sisters: Dona (Wayne) Hansen of Mt. Vernon, SD; and Barb (Roy Carlson) Blaedorn of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy.

Emmett “Ally” O’Connor

Emmett “Ally” O’Connor, 84, of Aberdeen, SD, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at ManorCare in Aberdeen. Mass of Christian Burial waas Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Christopher Hughes celebrated the mass. Burial was in St. Bernard’s cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 1-7:00 p.m. with prayer service at 5:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Ally was born July 27, 1927 in Athol, SD to Emmett and Mayme (Humphrey) O’Connor. He graduated from Athol High School in 1945. Ally married Eunice Grohs on September 28, 1948 in Athol. They lived in Athol and Redfield, while Ally worked at Spink County Highway Department, Northwestern Bell Telephone, Terry’s Bar, Fisher Grove County Club, Independent Oil Gas Station and American Legion Club.
He was a member of Pioneers of America and enjoyed woodworking, growing roses and gardening, hunting, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and watching NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife Eunice of Aberdeen; his daughters: Susan Gerlach of Westport, SD; and Janet (Clarence) Parks of Roundup, MT; his son Pat (Mary) O’Connor of Monmouth, OR; and his daughter-in-law Kathy O’Connor of Belle Fourche, SD. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Alvin (Michelle) Gerlach, Amy (Troy) Engelhart, Sarah (Grant) Aase, Tim O’Connor, Jeremy O’Connor, Matthew (Erin) O’Connor, Todd Wagner, Cody Wagner and Sam (Heather) Wagner, eleven great grandchildren and his sister Alicia VanHouten of Redfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mike, his brother Cletus, his sister Agnes Ames and his son-in-law Larry Gerlach.

Kenneth Martin Kube

Kenneth M. Kube, age 79, of Crofton, Nebraska, died on Monday, February 05, 2007, at the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Bloomfield, NE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. Joseph Broudou and Rev. Timothy Lange officiating. Burial will be at St. Rose cemetery with military rites by the Crofton American Legion Post #128. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 pm and a Vigil Service and video tribute at St. Rose Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. Wintz Funeral Home of Crofton is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Joe Hoebelheinrich, Neil Poppe, Danny Kube, Travis Duerst, Ryan Schmidt, Jonathan Goeden, Cody Watson, and Chad Schell. Honorary pallbearers are Neil Hoebelheinrich, Brandon Duerst, Gaylon Hoebelheinrich, Jay Poppe, Kyle Duerst, Brett Schmidt, Dustin Kube, Andrew Goeden, and Austin Kube.
Ken was born on November 16, 1927 to Frank and Elizabeth (Meyer) Kube on a farm southwest of Crofton. He grew up in the Crofton area and attended Pleasant Hill School and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. He graduated from Crofton High School in 1945. He was engaged in farming with his father and brother when he was drafted into the Army. He served in Germany from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. While in Europe he was fortunate to be able to take weekend passes and visit Italy, France, and Switzerland. While in Rome he was in the audience of the pope. He married Charleen Feilmeier on September 9, 1953 in Bow Valley. They lived and farmed west of Crofton for 47 years. He enjoyed raising purebred Simmental and Angus cattle. He also enjoyed dancing, reading, and spending a month or so in the winter in Arizona with his son Gary, Faith, and family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knox Country Cattlemen's Association, he served several years on the rural Fire Board, and was a lifetime member of the Crofton American Legion Post #128 and past commander. He and Charleen were members of the Yankton and Hartington Square Dance Clubs. He built up two farmsteads, first with the help of his father, the second with the help of his sons.
He is survived by his wife, Charleen of Crofton; 11 children and spouses, Gary and Faith Kube of Cave Creek, AZ, Donna Schmidt of Yankton, SD, Dean and Marcia Kube of Lincoln, NE, Karen and Gary Poppe of Bloomfield, NE, Loren and Cheryl Kube of Crofton, NE, Doris and Rolly Goeden of Crofton, Ann and Rick Watson of Grand Island, NE, Paula Kube of Omaha, NE, David and Debbie Kube of Crofton, Cheryl and Scott Finanger of Sioux Falls, SD, Marcel and Leisa Kube of Norfolk, NE; 29 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Norman Kube of Crofton; 3 sisters and spouses, Arlene and Jim Jaycox of Bolivar, MO, Jeanette and Melvin Lammers of Yankton, SD, Dorothy and Bud Hesse of Gravette, Arkansas, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, one grandson, Jesse Poppe, 3 granddaughters, Tracey, Amy, and Christy Kube, 2 brothers, Francis and Dennis Kube, and a sister-in-law, Marie Kube.

Stephen Harold Sater
(April 8, 1950 - November 17, 2012)

Stephen H. Sater, 62, of Chester passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends after losing his battle with cancer Saturday, November 17, 2012.
Memorial services will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Taopi Community Hall in Colton. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Stephen “Steve” Harold Sater was born in Sioux Falls to parents Arthur E. and Tina (Hovie) Sater. He grew up and received his education in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed his paper route as a young man growing up with his parents, two brothers and sister. He then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. He still maintained many close friendships from his time in college.
Steve was the significant other and loving companion to Lee Berding for nearly twenty years, thus becoming a very loving step-father to Lee’s five children and grandfather to six beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Steve and Lee made their home in Tower City, ND where he was the office manager for Buffalo Grain Elevator until taking the position as office manager for Colton Grain Elevator where he was employed since July of 2001. They settled in their home on Brant Lake where he enjoyed spending time and boating. Steve was an avid golfer, liked to read and spent a great amount of time with his dog, Sami.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Judy (Len) Haseman, Eagan, MN; sister-in-law, Jan Sater, Moorhead, MN; significant other and companion, Lee Berding, Chester; her children, Victoria Lee Berding, Lancaster, CA, Brad Berding, Chester, Hal (Gerilyn) Berding, Clearlake, IA, Renée (Rich) Strotman, Waterloo, IA and Marla (Jeff) Pulkrabeck, Amery, WI; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as nieces, Nicole (Michael) Anderson and Kathryn (Ian) Asplund; nephews, Eric (Alison) Haseman and Mark (Vija) Haseman and many other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur T. Sater and David K. Sater and uncle, Eilif Hovie.
Memorials in Steve’s name may be directed to the donor’s preference.

Mildred I. Zwemke

Mildred I. Zwemke, age 84, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services are 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 3, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend David Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 1:00 to 8:00 PM, on Friday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Pallbearers are Brian Zwemke, Roger Zwemke, Steve Zwemke, Zach Zwemke, Jed Hollenbeck and Mark Kuchta.
Mildred was born March 20, 1922 at Menno, South Dakota to Edward and Annettie (Herrboldt) Hauck. She spent her childhood living in Menno and Utica, South Dakota and graduated from Utica High School. On September 22, 1940, she married Arnold Zwemke at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton. After their marriage, they resided in Yankton a few years before moving to Alameda, California. They lived in California for three years while Arnold was involved in his ship building career and then in 1946, they moved back to Yankton. Mildred worked at Sister James Care Center for many years and later attended cosmetology school in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked as a hairdresser in Yankton for almost 40 years. Mildred was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Over 50's Club. Mildred enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and most of all, playing pinochle with her friends and family. She will be cherished forever for her endless love and devotion to her family, especially giving many years as a caregiver to her brother and granddaughter who have special needs. We will miss you so much dear mother and friend.
Survivors include her five children: Larry (Annette) Zwemke of Sioux Falls, Carol (Glenn) Mikkelson of Yankton, Vance (Sandra) Zwemke of Westminster, Colorado, Mike (Mary) Zwemke of Cartersville, Georgia and Kim (David) Renevier of Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Ervin (Arlene) Hauck of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Agnes Brosz of Yankton; and several nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; three brothers, Elmer, Alvin and Arthur Hauck; and two sisters, Lucille Frye and Frances Kuchta.
Memorials may be directed to the St. John's Seminary Student Endowment Fund at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton.

Audrey L. Huwe
(November 19, 1924 - October 13, 2012)

Audrey Lorraine (Haugen) Hudelson Cates Rehbock Huwe was born on Nov 19, 1924 in Dell Rapids, SD to Olaf and Inez (Nessan) Haugen and passed away on Oct 13, 2012 in Rapid City, SD. Audrey was 87 years old at the time of her death.
Audrey is predeceased by all four husbands, parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
She was married 4 times and had 9 children - Sherry Christian (Concord, CA), Georgia Hustrulid (Sioux Falls, SD), Retha Stewart (deceased), Linda Hudelson (Rapid City, SD), Lori Hieskell (Canton, SD), Stana Grant (Pueblo, CO), Buela Tjeerdsma (Springfield, SD), Merle Savage (Rochester, MN), Kevin Aaker (Luverne, MN). Audrey is predeceased by all four husbands, parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister. She is survived by 6 nephews, 29 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Memorial and burial services will be held at a later date at the East Nidaros cemetery in Baltic, SD.

Ella Leila Person
(July 8, 1924 - November 20, 2011)

Ella Person, 87, rural Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning November 20, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center following a stroke on Friday.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the Benton Lutheran cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8:00 PM Tuesday at the church.
Ella Leila Johnson was born July 8, 1924 to Adolph and Ida (Jensen) Johnson of rural Crooks. She attended Crooks Grade School, Crooks High School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1941.
Ella married Larkin Benjamin Person of Crooks on October 18, 1945. Having met in confirmation class, Ella and Larkin were lifelong members of Benton Lutheran Church. Ella and Larkin were a team working together on their farm and operating a family wedding photography business for over 60 years. Ella shared Larkin’s interest in photography, as some of their first dates were going to Camera Clubs. As a professional photographer, Ella enjoyed getting the best photos possible for her customers, who she considered friends.
Ella enjoyed working outdoors. Growing up, she helped her father pick corn by hand and milk cows. As a young farm wife, she shared the chicken chores with her mother in law, Amy. When Larkin and Ella moved to their own farm, they purchased a few sheep to keep the lawn trimmed. This began a lifelong love affair with the white woolies. She enjoyed the many people who came to their farm to buy lambs.
Ella enjoyed her neighbors, the Benton Lutheran Couples Club, extension club and Wayne Township Volunteer Fireman Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Larkin, rural Sioux Falls; a son, Larry Duane Person, Ellis; two younger brothers, Glenn Johnson and Clifford (Darlene) Johnson, Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother in law, Harry and Amy Person; two sisters, Lois (Ernest) Satter and Evelyn (Harold) Person and an older brother Alton Johnson.

Gordon D. Bierman

Memorial service for Gordon D. Bierman, 82, Warner was 10:30am, Monday, September 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Mansfield. Pastor Lloyd Redhage and Vicar Bret Bierman officiated. Military honors by the Mansfield and Northville American Legion Post’s. Gordon died Wednesday, August 31, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Gordon D. Bierman, son of Martin Otto and Elsie (Borchard) Bierman was born on November 20, 1928 near Mansfield. This is the area where he was raised and attended country school. Gordon went on to graduate from Northville High School. Following his graduation Gordon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in 1953 and began making his home in Aberdeen.
Gordon was united in marriage to Alice Rehfeld on June 9, 1957 in Warner, SD. They made their home in Aberdeen for a short time prior to moving to a farm near Warner. They purchased his uncle’s farm near Mansfield where they remained for 30 years until retiring and moving back to Warner.
For many years Gordon was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church singing in both the Men’s and Mixed Choirs. He was also a member of the Mansfield American Legion. For 28 years Gordon served as Township Supervisor for the Northville Township. During his retirement he enjoyed helping his son do custom harvesting. Gordon loved playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Gordon’s life are his wife Alice Bierman, Warner; children Delwin Bierman, Warner; Jolene (Monty) Forsting, Aberdeen; Neal (Donna) Bierman, Avon, SD; Troy (Jill) Bierman, Mansfield and Jerilyn (Dan) Mielke, Aberdeen; grandchildren Houston and Tanner Forsting, Cassandra and Nathan Bierman, Megan, Lexi and Trey Bierman and Dillon, Logan, and Jennah Mielke and two brothers, Rodger (Elvera) Bierman and Lyle Bierman.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marianne and Janene and one grandson Alexander Gordon Bierman.

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Eugene L. Pishek, 70, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday (Dec. 18, 2005) at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Storm Lake.

Melva Dybedahl
(April 30, 1939 - August 3, 2012)

Melva Dybedahl, 73, of rural Dell Rapids died unexpectedly Friday, August 3, 2012 in Dell Rapids.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present from 4-8:00 PM Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Burial will be in the Willow Creek Lutheran cemetery.
Melva was born on the farm southwest of Hartford, SD on April 30, 1939 to Clark & Bernadine Gregg. At the age of 6 her family moved to a farm on the west edge of Baltic along the Big Sioux River. Melva graduated from Baltic High School in 1957 where she was the Homecoming Queen.
Melva married Navis Dybedahl in Baltic on March 22, 1958 and have resided on their farm all 54 years of their marriage. Melva was a member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church & WELCA. Melva served the residents of the Odd Fellows Home and later Terrace Manor in the activities area for many years until God called her home.
Melva was well known for her compassionate care and loving heart and had a reputation for putting others first. Melva’s kitchen table was frequently a meeting place for friends and family where great conversations happened, and they had the opportunity to enjoy her home-cooked meals. Some of her favorites were homemade pizza, carrot cake, Swedish meatballs, and ice cream jello.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Navis Dybedahl, Dell Rapids; children, Craig (Bonnie) Dybedahl, Colton, Kevin (Pam) Dybedahl, Dell Rapids, Todd (Kim) Dybedahl, Sioux Falls and Sandy (Rick) Zwart, Dell Rapids; thirteen grandchildren; Matt, Paul & Mary Dybedahl; Jessica Evans, Jake Dybedahl, Tarah Burggraff, & Tye Dybedahl; Zach & Seth Dybedahl, Chelsie Huska, & Dylan Dybedahl; Gregg & Brad Zwart; five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Gregg, Dell Rapids; sisters, Audrey (Elden) Hilmoe, Dell Rapids and LaVonne Leitheiser, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Don Gregg, and her step father, Cliff Ottum.
Memorials maybe directed to the Willow Creek cemetery.

Michael "Mikey" Harvey Davis

Michael "Mikey" Harvey Davis, age 55, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM on Friday, December 5, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, on Thursday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Pallbearers are Jim Anderson, Jerry Radack, Jason Beaudette, Jeff Hays, Matt Luikens and Hadley Gilbertson.
Mike was born on July 6, 1953, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Harvey Alvin and Mary (Hayes) Davis. He grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School in 1971. After high school at age 17, he started working for the Human Services Center in Yankton. For 38 years he continued to work there and was currently in the drug and alcohol unit. His personal touch with his patients was unbelievable and had a remarkable way connecting to them. On May 10, 1980, Mike married Linda Luikens at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton. In 1986, he was blessed with his greatest joy in life, his daughter, Jennifer. Mike was a big sports fan. He enjoyed playing golf and watching football, especially the Vikings. He was an intimidating fast-pitch softball pitcher. He also played the trumpet and enjoyed the company of his pets. Mike was well known as a "roaster" of people retiring from the Human Services Center and always provided a farewell poem which he wrote.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda Davis of Yankton; daughter, Jennifer Davis of Yankton; sister, Pat Davis of Minneapolis, MN; half-sister, Marilyn Owens of Leon, IA; nine nieces and nephews; and his two beloved pets, his dog, Lilly and cat, Tookie.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Twyla Ostrem.
