Martha Dockter
1/6/1910 - 12/27/2008

Eureka, SD - Funeral service for Martha Dockter, 98, of Eureka will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Eureka Reformed Church. The Rev. Richard Stetler will officiate.
Burial will be in Eureka City cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-7 pm at the funeral home.
She died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.
Martha Hochhalter, daughter of Jacob and Christina (Klotz) Hochhalter was born January 6, 1910 on the family homestead southwest of Wishek, ND. She attended country school and later worked on the family farm.
She was united in marriage to David Dockter on February 5, 1939 at Venturia, ND. They made their home on his parent’s farm for two years. They then moved to Eureka. She was a cook at the Luncheonette and later at the Eureka Public School for 12 years. She retired in 1975 and during her retirement, she was a substitute cook at the senior center. Her husband died November 5, 1975 and she continued to make Eureka her home.
Martha enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking for her family.
She was a member of Eureka Reformed Church.
Survivors include three sons, Gary (Carolyn) Dockter of Hudson, Wisconsin, Wayne (Sandra) Dockter of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Russell Dockter of Homosassa Springs, Florida, two brothers, Walter (Alice) Hochhalter of Wishek and Edwin (Frances) Hochhalter of Atlanta, Georgia, four grandsons, David, Paul, William and Thomas, one step-grandson, Kenneth Hickman, two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher and one step-great-grandson, David Hickman.
Her parents, husband and 12 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Casketbearers will be Russell Dockter, Gary Dockter, Wayne Dockter, David Dockter, Paul Dockter and Harry Mehlhaff.
The organist will be Alvina Fischer and the soloist is Zach Fischer.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka have been entrusted with arrangements.

Harvey Mehlhaff
2/2/1928 - 1/10/2009

Eureka, SD - Funeral service for Harvey Mehlhaff, 80, of Eureka will be 10:00 am, Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Eureka Reformed Church. The Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in Eureka City cemetery with military graveside rites by Fred Weller American Legion Post #186.
He died January 10, 2009 at his home.
Harvey Mehlhaff, son of Otto and Ann (Hochhalter) Mehlhaff was born February 20, 1928 on the family homestead near Eureka, SD. After his mother’s death, he was raised by his father and step-mother, Lydia (Hochhalter) Mehlhaff. He worked on the family farm. He entered the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Washington at Hanford Site. He was honorably discharged and then returned to the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Miletta Dockter on October 17, 1954 in Venturia Reformed Church at Venturia, ND. They made their home on the Mehlhaff family homestead where they were general farmers raising small grains, livestock and dairy. He worked as a crop adjuster for a short time and for 20 years, he was a Regional Manager for Mallard Seed.
Harvey enjoyed fishing on the Missouri River and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Eureka Reformed Church and Fred Weller American Legion Post #186. He was one of the original American Legion Drill Squad members.
Survivors include three sons, Lester (Terrie) Mehlhaff, Clark Mehlhaff and Jerald Mehlhaff, all of Aberdeen, two daughters, Kathryn (Tim) Newman of North English, Iowa and Linda (Dave) Diedtrich of West Richmond, Washington, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
His parents, step-mother and wife preceded him in death.
Casketbearers will be Derrick Diedtrich, Robert Diedtrich, James Newman, Earl Mehlhaff, Blake Mehlhaff and Stanley Schaffer.
The organist will be Alvina Fischer.

Caroline Berg Boyer
9/15/1920 - 12/15/2008

Groton, SD - Funeral service for Caroline Berg Boyer, 88, of Groton and formerly of Aberdeen will be 1:00 pm, Monday, December 22, 2008 at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1708 8th Ave. NE. The Rev. Jeff Whillock will officiate.
Burial will be in Bath cemetery, Bath, SD. Lunch and fellowship will follow at the Eagles Club.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and on Monday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
She died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Golden Living Center at Groton, SD.
Caroline McKinnon, daughter of Kenneth and Emma (Fritchie) McKinnon was born September 15, 1920 at Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She was united in marriage to Clinton Berg on December 7, 1945 at Minneapolis after he was honorably discharged from the service. They had four children and Carol was a stay at home mom, raising their family in North Dakota and South Dakota. Her husband died in 1973. Carol then moved to Fargo where she was a housemother and cook at North Dakota State University for about 15 years. She was an honorary Gamma Phi Beta and helped raise so many of the college students at NDSU.
She was then united in marriage to Lorin Boyer on September 18, 1991 at Wahpeton, ND. They lived in Wahpeton until they moved to Aberdeen. They were active in the Eagles Club for 17 years. Her husband died December 11, 2007.
Carol was a ray of sunshine to everyone. She had a knack for always smiling and cheering everyone up. She was an avid reader all her life and always had a stash of three or four boxes of books tucked away. When in Minneapolis, she spent a great deal of time with her mother going to the movies and later enjoyed movies with her children and grandchildren. Spending time with her family was her greatest love; she could cook and bake for them, making sugar bread sandwiches for her grandchildren to eat on the way home. A wonderful gift that she left her grandchildren was stories that she read to them and taped so that they could listen to them when she couldn’t be there for them.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Dean) Weismantel of Aberdeen and Laurie (Curtis) Nulle of Belle Fourche, SD, two sons, Ken “Bergy” Berg and Mark Berg, both of Aberdeen, seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four families of step-children in ND. Also, her caring family at Golden Living Center and her dear friend, Dorothy Waba.
Her parents, both husbands and one brother preceded her in death.
Casketbearers will be Dean Weismantel, Mark Berg, Ken Berg, Josh Berg, Jeff Schick and Curtis Nulle.
The organist will be Bev Bieber and the soloist is Camille Fischer.
The family prefers memorials be made to Golden Living Center, 1106 N. 2nd St., Groton, SD 57445.

Alvin R. Dallman
10/28/1927 - 12/20/2008

Ipswich, SD - Funeral service for Alvin R. Dallman, 81, of Ipswich and formerly of Hosmer, SD will be 2:00 pm, Monday, December 29, 2008 at Carlsen Funeral Home at Ellendale. The Rev. Alan Eppen will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery at Edgeley, ND.
He died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Golden Living Center at Ipswich.
Alvin R. Dallman, son of Otto and Rosina (Speidel) Dallman was born October 28, 1927 on the family farm north of Edgeley, ND. He attended country school through the sixth grade. He entered the United States Army on August 2, 1946 and was honorably discharged on September 1, 1947. He was a World War II Veteran.
He was united in marriage to Mabel Ernst on July 24, 1950 at Aberdeen. He worked for various farmers and in 1955 moved to Edgeley to work for Anderson Brothers for several years. In 1978, he moved to Hazelton, Kansas where he worked as a road construction maintainer. In 1987, he moved back to Edgeley and in 1989, he retired and moved to Minnesota, back to Edgeley in 1992 and in 1993, he moved to Hosmer. He entered Golden Living Center in Ipswich on October 22, 2008
Alvin enjoyed gopher hunting and dining out. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Kevin) Isakson of Litchville, ND and Marcella (Coral) Bardell of Monango, mother of his children, Mabel Dallman of Ellendale, one daughter-in-law, Bonny Dallman of Bliss, Idaho, four brothers, Elmer Dallman of Jerome, Idaho, LeRoy Dallman of Jamestown, Arnold (Claudia) Dallman of Utah and Robert Dallman of West Fargo, five sisters, Lorraine (John) Heiser and Viola Erhart, both of Billings, Montana, Thelma (Wilbert) Kinzler of Kulm, Delores (Raymond) Kuhn of Jud, ND and Laverne (Richard) Henderson of Dickey, ND, four grandchildren, Donal Gohman of Sioux Falls, Jessica Romero of Bliss and Scott Gohman and Kevonna Isakson, both of Litchville and five great-grandchildren, Lupe, Messina, Leonor, Carmela and Shylynn.
His parents, one son, Anthony, one brother, Melvin and three sisters, Dorine, Adeline and Alvina preceded him in death.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ellendale have been entrusted with arrangements.

GEORGE PRLENDA

George Prlenda, 84, of Lead died Saturday afternoon at Northern Hills General Hospital.
He was born February 10, 1919 in Lead to Nick and Anna Prlenda. After graduating from Lead High School in 1937, he attended the University of Washington. He majored in pre-law until his fatherís failing health and the war interrupted his college career. After serving in the Army, he returned to the University of Washington to major in Far Eastern Studies, with a concentration in Russian language and history. He graduated magna cum laude in June 1953.
Recruited by the CIA, he went to work for that organization in 1954 and was assigned to the Foreign Document Division, where he specialized in Bulgarian translations. He also served as a multi-language specialist for the Foreign Broadcast Information System for over 17 years. He retired from government service in the CIA in April 1971, and returned to Lead.
He is survived by his sister Eva Muir of Spearfish, nephew William Muir of Deadwood, and nieces Nickola (Muir) Green of Grants, New Mexico and Evette (Muir) Wise of Hilliard, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Arline Ebert.
Private family graveside services will be held later in the week . Internment will be at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.

Matthew G. Jaszczenski
4/26/1941 - 2/9/2009

Ashley, ND - Private family service for Matthew G. Jaszczenski, 67, of Ashley will be held at a later date.
He died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Wishek Home for the Aged.
Survivors include his wife, Julie of Ashley and two sons, Paul Jaszczenski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Michael Jaszczenski of Waterford, Wisconsin.
His parents and one son, Matthew Jaszczenski, Jr. preceded him in death.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley have been entrusted with arrangements.

Marvin Hanson
(April 11, 1919 - December 25, 2012)

Marvin D. Hanson, 93, of rural Dell Rapids passed away December 25, 2012 at Sanford USD Medical Center.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. Burial will be in the Willow Creek cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.
Marvin was born April 11, 1919 to parents Thomas and Tilda (Sundal) Hanson in Sioux Falls. He grew up near Dell Rapids and attended the Hanson Country School, which he later bought and moved to his farm for a garage. He then joined the United States Army in 1945 and spent time in France. He was on his way to Japan when the Atomic Bombs were dropped and then spent time in the Philippines. After returning to the states, he spent time as a Military Police Officer on passenger trains on the Atlantic coast. Returning home, he farmed and later worked at John Morrell.
Marvin married Ruby Klanderud April 4, 1948 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church.
Marvin was an active member of the Willow Creek Lutheran Church, where he was custodian for many years and served on the cemetery board. He was on the board of directors of the Baltic Lumber and Elevator Board. He also was an active member of the Baltic American Legion. He enjoyed local conversations with relatives, neighbors and friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruby, Dell Rapids, sons, Mervin (Mary) Hanson, Sioux Falls; Perry Hanson, Bakersfield, CA; daughters, Kathy Rindels, Chamberlain; Linda Hanson, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Candice Hanson, Courtney Hanson, Caitlyn Hanson, Nathan Hanson, Dustin Hanson and Mitchell Hanson; two great grandchildren, Caleb & Cameron Hanson; a brother, Richard Hanson, Harrisburg; two sisters, Delores (Harold) Simkins and Esther (Charles) Nelson, both of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Tilda Hanson, and grandson, Seth; two brothers, Robert and Arnold and a sister, Gladys Mesch and a sister in law, Sally Hanson.

Juel Berdahl
(June 7, 1922 - November 22, 2012)

Juel Bennett Berdahl of Colton, South Dakota, then Brookings, died peacefully at age 90 among family on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 26, at First Lutheran Church in Colton, with burial at St. Ansgar cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4:00 P.M. Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
Juel was born on June 7, 1922, to Hilmer and Nellie (Dybvig) Berdahl. He graduated from Colton High School and attended State College at Brookings. He was a farmer throughout the years. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946, working as an electrician on the U.S.S. Abatan in the Pacific.
Juel married Virginia Kneip on September 16, 1950. Together they were foster parents to 114 children through Lutheran Social Services. In addition to farming, Juel worked as a rural mail carrier and Post Office clerk.
Juel was an active lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Colton, from his early years in Bible camps and Luther League to his singing for 50 years in the church choir.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, now in Brookings; children: Priscilla (David) Strom of Brookings, Becky Berdahl of Minneapolis, Dan (Karen) Berdahl of Sioux Falls, Tim (Laura) Berdahl of Duluth, MN, Mark (Laura) Berdahl of Northfield, MN, and Phil (Julie) Berdahl of Forest, VA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Edgar Berdahl.
