Del Borchert
(November 5, 1944 - November 24, 2012)

Funeral services for Del Borchert, age 68, of Shadehill, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lemmon. Deacon Bill Dustman will officiate with burial in the Greenhill cemetery. Serving as casketbearers are Dakota Rosenberg, Rory Stevens, Shawn Buer, Todd Messmer, Myron McPherson, and Raymond McPherson. All family and friends are considered Honorary Bearers. DELBERT DALE BORCHERT “Del” was born on November 5, 1944 in Carson, ND to Otto and Barbara (Bonogofsky) Borchert. He grew up in rural Carson and attended country school finishing the 8th grade. He worked on the family farm and also for numerous neighbors around the Carson area.
In the Spring/Summer of 1969, he met Linda Messmer. They were united in marriage on November 8, 1969. They lived outside of Carson while Del worked as a ranch hand for Edward Oswald. In 1969, they moved to Lemmon and Del began working for Wolff’s Plumbing and Heating. In 1970, they bought cattle and moved to the family farm by Carson. In July of 1972, they moved back to Lemmon and Del began working for his father-in-law, Joe Messmer at Joe’s Heating and Plumbing until 1982. Del then started his own business.
On September 9, 1972, their first son, Quinton was born. Quinton worked for his dad through his teenage years until 1992. On October 24, 1976, a daughter, Jennifer was born, known to her dad as “the turtle”. They moved to their home from White Butte to Shadehill, SD in 1978 and resided there along with Del’s Plumbing and Pump Service until December of 2011 when Del retired. On June 9, 1990, Joshua joined his brother and sister and also worked for Del.
Del enjoyed riding and breaking horses, fishing, hunting, telling stories and talking to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed his family and friends the most. Del took great pride in his work, it did not matter what the weather conditions were or the time of night, “no one ever went without”. He had an old school work ethic and will be missed by many. He knew farms and ranches in the area better than most of the people who lived on them.
In June of 2002, a grandson, Chase was born and was another joy brought into Del’s life. In December of 2011, Del’s health deteriorated and as much as he hated to leave his customers, he retired and was able to enjoy more time with his family.
Del passed from this life on Saturday evening, November 24, 2012 at the age of 68 years, with his family by his side.
We will miss your dry humor, you stories, your laugh, your smile and I love you’s. You are gone but will live on in our hearts forever.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 43 years, Linda Borchert, Shadehill, SD; two sons, Quinton and Josh Borchert; one daughter, Jennifer Borchert Marxsen, all of Lemmon, SD; two grandchildren, Cayla and Chase Marxsen; one great-grandson, Connor; his mother-in-law, Christine Messmer, Lemmon, SD; three brothers, Eddie, in California, Harvey, Tolstoy, SD and Max Borchert, Gillette, WY; four sisters, Carolyn (Edgar) Riedlinger, Hebron, ND, Maxcine (Jim) Heim, Elgin, ND, Margie Rhodes, Bismarck, ND and Joann Lacey, Minneapolis, MN; two brothers-in-law, Lyle Messmer, Lemmon, SD and Larry Messmer, Belle Fourche, SD; two sisters-in-law, Jayne (Rodney) Reith, West Fargo, ND and Lori (John) Herold, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ingrid H. Gebhart
(July 12, 1924 - November 17, 2012)

Funeral services for Ingrid H. Gebhart, age 88, of Meadow, SD will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Indian Creek Lutheran Church near Meadow, SD. Rev. Bob Edwards will officiate with burial in the Chance cemetery. Special music will be provided by Carol Nelson, organist.
Ingrid Hjordis (Flatmoe) Gebhart was born July 12, 1924 to Christopher and Petra (Kornstad) Flatmoe at Skage in Namdalen, Norway. Ingrid was baptized that same year at Overhalla Church in Skage. On June 15, 1941 Ingrid was confirmed at Indian Creek Church at Chance, SD. In May of 1929, with the encouragement of Petra’s family, who were already in America, Christopher and Petra Flatmoe and their 4 children Hanna, Ingrid, Clara and Iver sailed for America aboard the Slavangersfjord. One of Ingrid’s memories of the voyage was her dad holding Iver up by the railings and being scared that he might drop him overboard. After 9 days on the boat the family arrived at Ellis Island on May 25, 1929. They boarded a train and continued to Lemmon, SD where they were met by Petra’s mother, Karin Gustofson, and her brother Knute Kornstad. From there the family rode in a 1927 Whippit car to her Grandparent’s farm near Coal Springs, SD. This was the family’s first car ride.
Ingrid started school in the fall of 1930 at Coal Springs, she could not speak a word of English at the time. Her teacher was Leone McMahon, who became a life-long friend. Ingrid and Hanna would sit around the kitchen table in the evening and teach English to their parents. Ingrid and Hanna finished grade school in 1938 and started at Meadow Central High School the next fall. The fall of 1940 they continued their education at Lemmon High School, graduating with the Class of 1942.
On December 25, 1943 Ingrid was united in marriage to Arnold Gebhart. They began their life together on a farm 7 miles northeast of Glad Valley. To this union 6 children were born. In 1965 they purchased her parents’ place and moved back to the Coal Springs area. According to Ingrid her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother to her 6 children. She was very proud of her family.
She was a long time member of Indian Creek Lutheran Church. She was very active in the lady’s aide. She was known for her lefse at the Fall Dinners. She served many pies and rolls at the Faith Sale barn. Long hours were spent quilting for the church.
Gardening was especially enjoyable for Ingrid. She truly loved nurturing her various vegetable and flower gardens. She will always be remembered for her beautiful flower gardens. She was an exceptionally good cook, one of the best! To quote a neighbor, “She could make anything taste good.” There was always enough food for everyone who stopped at meal time and nobody ever left her table hungry. Her children and grandchildren will never forget her Norwegian goodies, raisin cookies, and especially her delicious caramel rolls.
In September of 2007 she moved into the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. Over the next five years the staff became part of her family. She remained there until her passing, Nov.17, 2012 with her family at her side.
Hard work and honesty were traits passed on to Ingrid from her parents. She was a respected member of her community. Ingrid was ready with a helping hand whenever it was needed. Her faith and beliefs set an admiral example for others. Her children, grandchildren and great –grandchildren have wonderful memories of this remarkable lady. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Grateful for sharing her life are her two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Jane Gebhart, Meadow, SD and Keith and Debbie Gebhart, Gillette, WY; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Wilkens, Maple Grove, MN, Leanne and Ken Loeschke, Rapid City, SD, Lenai and Larry Lauriston, Birmingham, AL and Virginia and Kirk Milles, Rockford, WA; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Harold and Lillian Flatmoe, Meadow, SD and Ken and Charlotte Flatmoe, Sturgis, SD, Helen Flatmoe, Rapid City, SD; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Hanna and George Allen Iverson, Murdo, SD and Clara Duncan, Mobridge, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry attended school in Morristown until enlisting in the service as a paratrooper with the 11th Parachute Maintenance Company in Japan. He was the supervisor of 6 men while working as a parachute rigger.
When he returned 2 years later, he was working in Morristown when he was hired to clerk at the Coast to Coast store in Lemmon. This was Lemmon’s Ball Clubs way of recruiting him to play 1st base and short stop. At 26 years old he was scouted by the Chicago White Sox, but their minds were changed when they found out his age.
After meeting Lucille Fitzgerald at a dance in Keldron, they were later married in 1950. In 1957, they became the owners of Our Own Hardware. With the kids growing up in the store, they learned about the nuts and bolts of a successful business and the hard work it took to make it that way.
Deciding to slow down in 1988, Bob bought the business. Jerry could still be seen everyday pushing the bikes and mowers or the snow blowers out in the morning and back in at night, pulling weeds out of the cracks in the sidewalk or relaxing by the floor furnace.
Moving the blade sharpening and bike repair business to the garage behind the house in 2002, Jerry continued to fix everyone's chains and tires. His grandkids were never without a set of two wheels under them.
Lots of pitches were thrown in the backyard and many miles were peddled around town creating many memories for the grandkids, who were a very important part of his life.
Jerry was a member of the Lemmon Fire Department for 25+ years. He took it very seriously. If the whistle blew while you were with him, you could either wait in the pickup until he got back or walk home.
In 2009, Jerry was diagnosed with dementia and Parkinson’s disease causing his regular life to start to change. He entered Five Counties Nursing Home in 2011, where he was know for being easy going and his love for his nightly bowl of maple nut ice cream.

Serving as casketbearers are Ernie’s grandchildren. All members of the Lemmon Lions Club, past and present members of the Lemmon Fire Dept. are considered honorary bearers.
Special music will be provided by Carol Johnson, pianist and Steve Sandgren, soloist.
Ernest “Ernie” L. Trogstad was born August 23, 1923, northeast of Lemmon in Adams County, ND. He was one of eight children born to Hagbert and Gena (Texley) Trogstad. He attended South Fork Consolidated Country School 14 miles northeast of Lemmon. Ernie went to one year of high school at South Fork and then attended Lemmon High School as a sophomore and graduated from LHS in 1941.
Ernie worked at the Ben Franklin store while attending high school and following his graduation, he worked for his parents and brother-in-law, Arnold Molitor, farming for two years. He then moved to St. Paul, MN, where he began working at an ordinance munition plant, making ammunition for the war. In September of 1945, he returned to Lemmon and went to work for Bill Stock, the founder of Stock’s Electric.
Ernie was united in marriage to Alice Krischen on August 30, 1953. Since Alice had went to school with Ernie's sister Lucille, she'd known who Ernie was for some time, but it wasn't until Ernie went in to buy a new vehicle that he set his sights on something more than a car. Alice was working at the car dealership for her dad, and Ernie was caught eyeing the help while shopping for new wheels. To their union, four children were born - Pam, Merna, Carol and Vance.
In 1962, Ernie and Alice purchased Stock’s Electric. Ernie continued to operate the electrical business until semi-retiring in 1992 when he sold the business to his son, Vance. He continued working part time at Stock’s fixing all the motors and appliances. He called almost daily to see how things were going when he wasn’t able to be there.
Over the years, Ernie was active in several organizations. He was a member of the Lemmon Fire Department (32 years) and enjoyed attending all of the LFD’s social events, even after his retirement. Ernie was a member of the Lemmon Lions Club (39 years) and he looked forward to the club meeting each week and was well known by the members for his assortment of jokes. Ernie was a member of the Lemmon Masonic Lodge #151 (61 years), Lemmon Country Club, Lemmon Junior Livestock Show, and Lemmon Area Jaycees. He served on the Northwest Area Schools Multi District Advisory Board and was President of the Lemmon Chamber of Commerce.
Ernie was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he was a Deacon, Trustee and President of the Council. While Ernie was well known for being handy fixing motors and electrical gadgets, some of his hidden talents were put to use many years ago when he created and handmade the pendant lights for his church. He was very proud of the lights that he'd made, and these same fixtures are currently hanging in the Calvary Lutheran Church yet today.
In 2005, at the occasion of the Lemmon Lions Club’s 75th Anniversary, Ernie was awarded this worldwide organization’s esteemed Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Becoming a Lions' Melvin Jones Fellow is the highest humanitarian award that Lions can bestow upon a fellow member and recognizes a member’s exceptional loyalty and devotion to their club. It represents a member going above and beyond the call of duty, year-in and year-out, towards serving their local community as they carry out the Lions' mission to serve.
The Dakotas proved to be a playground for Ernie, as he was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as a fan of gardening and golfing. For indoor fun, he also loved to play Bingo and cards. He and Alice enjoyed playing couples bridge and belonged to Lemmon’s Mr. & Mrs. Dance Club. Throughout the years, Ernie and Alice enjoyed a lot of traveling together, including overseas trips as they found adventures around the globe.
Ernie was always a fan of Lemmon High School sports and attended his kids and grandkid's functions whenever possible. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and taught his children the love of fishing, hunting and gardening.
