Eugene C. Henderson
(August 14, 1934 - January 24, 2015)

Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” C. Henderson, age 80, of Dupree, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the United Church of Christ in Dupree, SD. Pastor Pauline Webb will officiate with burial to follow in the Dupree cemetery.
Eugene “Gene” Clifford Henderson was born on August 14, 1934, at Dupree, SD. He was the oldest of three sons born to Eugene and Jane (Miller) Henderson. He attended grade school at the Campbell School southwest of Dupree. His family moved to Cherry Creek which they called “Little Ireland. The Campbell School also moved to Cherry Creek at that time.
Gene’s family moved again in 1947 and he attended the Whittier School where he finished 8th grade. He graduated from high school in 1952. Following his graduation, Gene, worked for a surveyor. He then returned to the family farm, and in the spring time during lambing, he helped Lawrence and Harold Ross.
In 1958 Gene was united in marriage to Elsie Fuhrer. They remained on the farm until the drought in 1961 forced them to sell all the cattle and move to Dupree. Gene then began working at the City Bar and the lumberyard. Gene bought back cattle in 1964 and went back into farming and ranching with his father. He soon after bought the place from his dad. When Gene decided to retire, he sold the place to his oldest son Bill.
Gene was on several boards, Farmers Coop Elevator, Farmers Union, ASCS Board and also the Dupree City Council. He often talked a lot about the seven years they lived at Cherry Creek. His friends were the Knights, Jefferies, and Eddie Widow was also there. They did a lot of horseback riding, more than likely to see who had the fastest horse.
Gene passed away on Saturday morning, January 24, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie, Dupree, SD; two sons, Bill (Pam Mitchell) Henderson and Dale (Tracie Brooks) Henderson both of Dupree, SD; six grandchildren, Jeff Henderson, Dupree, SD, Mardie and Jake Michalson, Sturgis, SD, Callie Henderson (friend Dave Zeiler), Rapid City, SD, Blaine Henderson, Brookings, SD, Daryl Henderson, Mitchell, SD and Robert Henderson, Dupree, SD; one great-granddaughter, Kenleigh Michalson; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Henderson, Mobridge, SD and Terri Henderson, Arlington, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harley and Ben Henderson; and one granddaughter, Jodie Jean Henderson.
A memorial has been established.

Robert "Bob" Schell
(January 12, 1933 - January 17, 2015)

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Schell, age 82, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon. Tottie Lenerville will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill cemetery in Lemmon.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a family service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home.
Robert “Bob” Schell was born on January 12, 1933, on the family farm near Watauga, SD. Bob was one of seven children born to Bill and Margaret (Lorenz) Schell. The family moved north of Morristown, SD, where Bob was raised and also worked on the family farm.
It was while attending country school that he met Gracie Fike. They were married on May 27, 1952 and to this union five children were born: Jesse, Bill, Sheila, Steve and Douglas.
The family lived in many places during the early years. Bob worked at the Homestake Mine in Lead, SD, the copper mine in Butte, MT and ran a crane for the iron yard in Billings, MT. They finally settled down in Baker, MT, where Bob worked as a mechanic for local Case dealer, Richard Pinnow, for more than 20 years. Following his retirement, Bob and Gracie moved to Lemmon, SD, where he remained until his death.
Bob loved to fish and camp with family and friends. He loved to dance to country music and had fond memories of barn dances when he was young. He was a member of and attended the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon where Bob and Gracie recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Bob went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. He was 82 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie, Lemmon, SD; son, Jesse (Jan) Schell, Las Vegas, NV, son, Bill (Sheryl) Schell, Cottonwood, AZ, daughter, Sheila, Commerce City, CO, son, Steve (Cheryl) Schell, Lemmon, SD, and son, Douglas (Traci) Schell, Miles City, MT; 12 grandchildren, Jesse Jr., Jeremy, Jason, Jennifer, Emily, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Tasha, Allen, Tara Jo, Matthew and Mariah; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; special boy, Chance Ellison; many nieces and nephews; brothers, Johnny (Marilyn) and Benny Schell; and two sisters, Viola Olson and Margaret Coddington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Schell; sisters, Betty Lenerville, Helen Fike; grandson, Aaron Schell; two daughters-in-law, Annie and Faye Schell.
Bob will be missed dearly by all who knew him. May He rest in peace.

Shirley Jean Butler
(January 26, 1925 - January 16, 2015)

Service of Remembrance for Shirley Jean Butler, 89, of Spearfish, SD, formerly of Faith, SD will be Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills, 715 National Street in Belle Fourche, SD. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National cemetery south of Sturgis, SD. Rev. Harold Delbridge will officiate.
Visitations will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 and one hour prior to the Funeral on Thursday morning, all at the Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
Shirley Jean (Vojta) Butler was born January 26, 1925 to James and Mae (Thomas) Vojta at Sioux Falls, SD. The family moved to Mobridge, SD thereafter and later to Faith when Shirley Jean was in the 4th grade. She graduated from Faith High School in 1944.
During her high school years she worked at McCormick’s Confectionery. She was united in marriage to Bryce O. Butler at Ft. Pierre, SD on July 20, 1944 and they began their life together on the Butler ranch, southeast of Faith in Ziebach Co. They lived there until building a new home in Faith in 1965, continuing to operate the ranch. They also farmed near Dupree, SD, operated Butler Trucking and the Butler Livestock Yards in Faith.
Shirley Jean was supportive of the community through her membership in the Alpha Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Faith Alumni Association and the Faith Stock Show and Rodeo Association.
Upon retirement, Shirley Jean and Bryce moved to Spearfish, SD where he passed away on August 16, 2005.
Shirley Jean passed away at the Spearfish Regional Hospital on Friday, January 16, 2015 with her niece, Dawn Lauderdale at her side.
Shirley Jean is survived by her sisters, Loretta (Bill) Artz, Prescott, AZ, Connie Johnson, Elk City, OK and Joanne (Kenneth) Singpiel, Rapid City, SD and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friends, Wayne and Verla Lang, Rapid City, SD and Garnet Ainsworth, Spearfish, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryce, her parents, James and Mae Vojta and her brother, Francis Vojta.
In lieu of flowers Memorials are preferred to the Special Olympics or the Abbott House.
Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Faith Area Memorial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes and the Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills.

Donald A. Reecy
Died: Jun 01, 2002

Donald Anthony Reecy, son of Joseph and Loretta (Even) Reecy, was born September 1, 1930 at Humboldt, SD. He grew up there and attended Humboldt Sister’s School. The family moved first to Brandt, SD, and then to Clear Lake, SD. He worked at the Clear Lake Dairy for several years. Before moving to Sioux Falls in 1950.
Don was united in marriage with Marlys Helen Stickle on February 2, 1953 at Clear Lake, SD. They settled in Sioux Falls where he began his career with H-S Price Co./Rusco Windows. He worked there until his retirement in 1992 after 40 years of service. In 1993, he began working part-time providing public fingerprinting for immigration and background checks. In 1997, due to the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, his activities were limited and he was cared for by his wife, Marlys, until August of 2001 when he entered Southridge Healthcare Center.
Don was a longtime member of St. Lambert’s Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge, Pheasants Forever, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and farming.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marlys Reecy, Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Steven Reecy and his wife, Sandra, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Jacqueline Reecy, St. Louis Park, MN; one grandchild, Rolf Woelber; a brother, Eugene Reecy and his wife, Agnes, Edgemont, SD; and among numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Gerald Reecy; and one grandson, Joseph Woelber.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ronald D. Matthaei
Died: May 22, 2002

Ronald Dean Matthaei, son of Ralph and Ramona (Bruining) Matthaei, was born October 18, 1960 in Waukegan, IL. As a child he moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School in 1978. He graduated from Southeast Area Vocational-Technical Institute in 1980.
Ron worked for several years at Novak Sanitation. He later moved to Valley Springs, SD. He then worked for Luverne Truck Equipment. Ron enjoyed playing in pool and dart leagues, three wheeling, mechanical work and spending time with family and friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his companion, Bonnie Burr; his daughters, Roschelle Matthaei, Valley Springs, SD, BreAnn King, Valley Springs, SD; his parents, Ralph and Ramona Matthaei, Sioux Falls, SD; his sister, Rita Novak and her husband, Mark, Lennox, SD; his brother, Randy Matthaei and his girlfriend, Amber Rotio, Sioux Falls, SD; his grandmother, Mildred Bruining, Sioux Falls, SD; his nephew, Anthony Matthaei, Gilchrist, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell.

Carol F. Johnson
Died: May 22, 2002

Carol Fay Otelle, daughter of Lester Wayne and Cecelia Katherine (Malloy) Otelle, was born April 3, 1939 in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from Washington High School in 1957 and then attended Stewart’s School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls.
Carol was united in marriage with Dwane “Wally” Johnson on March 24, 1958 in Sioux Falls. After their marriage the couple lived in Sioux Falls where Carol owned and operated Carol’s Salon of Beauty from their home. They moved to an acreage near Shindler, SD in the fall of 1973.
Carol passed away after a 14 month battle with lung cancer on May 22, 2002 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Carol had many interests but especially enjoyed being with her friends and family, her home near Shindler, vegetable gardening, and propagating plants.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Wally Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD; her daughter, Cindy Cramer and her husband, Russ, Larkspur, CO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the committal service.

Ralph Winterbower
Died: May 22, 2002

Ralph Winterbower, son of Walter and LuRue Winterbower, was born March 27, 1927 at Leavenworth, KS. He grew up there and worked at various jobs throughout his life.
He was married to Beth Winterbower for a time. Ralph then married Betty Winterbower. They later divorced.
He spent a few years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary. He then resided in Sioux Falls until his death.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church and enjoyed his Bible study group.
He is survived by numerous friends and acquaintances.

Anthony E. "Tony" Bontje
Died: May 15, 2002

Anthony Edward “Tony” Bontje, son of Gerrit and Francina (Goossens) Bontje, was born January 22, 1924 in Haarlemmermeer, The Netherlands. He grew up in the Netherlands. As a young man Tony was confined in a farced labor camp in Berlin, Germany for three years. He moved with his parents and siblings to Larchwood, IA in 1952.
Tony was united in marriage with Charlotte M. Murphy in Larchwood on June 11, 1955. The couple made their home in Larchwood before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1971. Tony worked in inventory control at Cummins and Brown Drug before retiring. Following retirement he worked part-time at the 33rd and Minnesota Avenue Hy-Vee store for nine years.
Tony was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church and sang in the choir there for 16 years. He was active in Cursillo. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Christ the King Men’s Club. He loved flowers and making floral arrangements. He enjoyed gardening, reading and sharing his Catholic faith. Above all, Tony cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Charlotte Bontje, Sioux Falls, SD; his children, Steve Bontje and his wife, Debbie, Pierre, SD, Elaine Quinn and her husband, Mike, Lake Havasu, AZ, Jeanine Draper and her husband, Don, Anaheim, CA, Mike Bontje, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Bontje and his wife, Theresa, Sioux Falls, SD, Gary Bontje and his wife, Lois, Sioux Falls, SD, two sisters, Francine Hemauer and her husband, Bob, Sun Prairie, WI, Tonni Evans and her husband, Larry, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Zacher.
