Claudine Farley Martin
WINCHESTER -- Graveside services for Claudine Farley Martin, 82, will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Cookeville cemetery.
Family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 11, from 10-11 a.m. with a short service following at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester.
Mrs. Martin died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008.
She was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Cookeville to the late Claude and Vallie Ann Wright Farley.
Mrs. Martin was the oldest of nine children. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very active within her community. Mrs. Martin was the first woman appointed to the Tennessee Human Rights Commission. She served as a committee woman for the state Republican Party and elected delegate to two national Republican conventions. She also coordinated several U.S. senatorial and gubernatorial campaigns.
Mrs. Martin was an enthusiastic collector, refurbisher and dealer of antique funtiture. She was a former member of First Methodist Church in Winchester. In 1986, she was listed in the book "Personalities of the South."
Her family includes her husband, Howard C. (Hank) Martin; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Pamela Martin; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith Ann and Dan Verble of Cookeville; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, A.V. and Thelma Farley, J.B. (Bill) Farley and Jere and Nora Farley, all of Cookeville, and Ted and Barbara Farley of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Angie Marie and husband Jeremy Bates and Joe Paul and wife Meredith Martin; and three great-grandchildren, Kayla Brooke and James Addison Harey and Hannah Grace Martin, all of Winchester.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Mildred Farley; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Genell and Bobby Newman and Dot and Jack Howard; and a daughter-in-law, Debby Enterline Martin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzhiemers Association.

Everett Coleman Leach
JELLICO -- Masonic services for Everett Coleman Leach, 85, of Jellico, formerly of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7:45 p.m., followed by funeral services at 8 p.m. at the chapel of Cox & Son Funeral Home in Jellico.
Burial will be in Crest Lawn cemetery in Cookeville.
Family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 11, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Leach died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Jellico Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1923, at Boston, Ky., to the late Arlie and Lillie Moyers Leach.
Mr. Leach was a deacon and member of Crouches Creek Baptist Church.
His family includes his wife, Bertha Morgan Baird Leach of Jellico; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Opal Leach of Jellico; five half-brothers and three sisters-in-law, Delbert and Marsha Leach and Estel Leach, all of Jellico, and Ray and Shirley Leach, Lowell and Mary Leach and Carl Leach, all of Toledo, Ohio.
Rev. Ellis Hoskins will officiate the funeral services.

Daniel Henry Mattson
VIRGINIA -- Dr. Daniel Henry Mattson, 79, of Fredrick County, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, in Winchester Medical Center from long-standing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Dr. Mattson was born in 1929, in Cookeville, Tenn., the son of the late Dale Wayne and Lolah Walston Mattson. Dr. Mattson received an MD from the University of Tennessee Medical School. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy as a medical officer during the Korean Conflict.
He married
Bettina Clarice Hillman M.D., on Nov. 1, 1958, in New Orleans, La.
Prior to his retirement, Dr. Mattson practiced internal medicine as chief of medicine and ambulatory care at the V.A. Medical Centerat Shrevenport, La., affiliated with the LSU School of Medicine.
After his retirement, Dr. Mattson retired at Westminster-Cantebury Retirement Center. He attended Christ Episcopal Church.
Surviving along with his wife, Dr. Bettina C. Hilman, is his daughter, Dr. Melanie D. Mattson; three grandchildren; and his brother, Jack Mattson of Cookeville.
Dr. Mattson was also preceded by a brother, Dr. Bill Mattson of Cookeville.
A funeral service will be conducted Sept. 11 at Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester, Va. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Forest Park cemetery, Shreveport, La., on Monday, Sept. 25.

William Shelby Mainers
BAXTER -- Funeral services for Bro. William Selby Mainers, 82, of Baxter, will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. from the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 11, from 5 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Graveside services and burial will be held Friday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. in New Union cemetery in Medon, in Hardeman County.
Bro. Mainers died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 30, 1926, in Henderson in Chester County to the late Willie Evan and Vesta Haltom Mainers.
Bro. Mainers pastored a number of churches in Tennessee and Mississippi in the Southern Baptist and Methodist faiths, serving as a minister for more than 53 years.
His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Carr of Baxter; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Theresa Mainers of Jackson and Trent and Gayl Mainers of Shelbyville; six grandchildren, Kimberly Ferguson, Brian Mainers and wife Katania, Tim Carr and wife Dana, Allison Morphis and husband Ben, April Jones and husband Billy and Rachel Sumerlin; and eight great-grandchildren, Brennan and Brett Mainers, Troy and Brock Ferguson, Tyler and Peyton Jones and Steelie and Zeb Morphis.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mainers was proceeded in death by his wife, Carrie (Pat) Nell Granger Mainers, on Oct. 11, 2007.

James Loyd Hyder Sr.
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for James Loyd Hyder Sr., 69, of Cookeville will be held Friday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Burial with military honors will follow in Cookeville cemetery.
Family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 11, from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Mr. Hyder died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 13, 1939, in Putnam County to the late J.T. Hyder and the late Mary Alice Brown McClain.
Mr. Hyder was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F & AM and the Al Menah Temple. He was retired from the Navy, serving aboard several submarines from 1955 until 1977. He retired a second time from the City of Cookeville Electrical Department after 17 years of service.
His family includes his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Ward Hyder of Cookeville (whom he married
March 24, 1957, in Ringgold, Ga.); a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Emily Hyder of Smyrna; a daughter, Suzie Hyder of Mt. Juliet; two grandsons, Aaron and Cody Hyder, both of Smyrna; his stepfather, A.P. McClain; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wayne and Levita McClain and Johnny McClain, all of Cookeville; and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Pat and Arvis Lee, Linda and Eddie Thompson, Debbie and Steve London and Cathy McClain, all of Cookeville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hyder was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Ann Hyder.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Ellis, Johnny and Wayne McClain, Eddie Thompson, Jerry Dale Abston, Randy Porter, Tony Peek and Scotty Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Timothy Fournet, Dr. Le Ray Crowe, Mended Hearts, Fleet Reserve Association and Cookeville Senior Golf Group.

Toy Roberts
BAXTER -- Funeral services for Toy Roberts, 90, of Baxter, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Burial, with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard, will be in New Home Baptist Church cemetery in the Boma Community.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Roberts died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at his home.
He was born Dec. 7, 1917, in Putnam County to the late Hobert and Betty Delaney Roberts.
Mr. Roberts served in the Army during World War II and was a Staff Sergeant. He was a retired foreman at Nichols Research Turkey Ranch in Pt. Arena, Calif. He also coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. Mr. Roberts worked at Cookeville General Hospital a nurse and was an Elderly Health Care Aide. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
His family includes four daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Clark Thomas of Silver Point, Gina and Chuck Cox of Buffalo Valley, Jan and Gary Strausbaugh of Virginia and Kay and Rick Lawson of Estill Springs; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Troy and Sharon Roberts, Larry and Kim Roberts and Ricky Roberts, all of Baxter; three brothers, Harold Roberts of Montgomery, Ala., Clifton Roberts of Lewisburg and Carlton Davenport of Columbia; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Kay Lowe Roberts (who died July 11, 2008); a sister, Alene (Penny) Riley; and a brother, Olan Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Perry, Jerry and Mike Thomas, Jonathan, Joshua, Dustin and Kevin Roberts, Michael Sliger and Elston and Clinton Harris.
Bro. Mike Pack will officiate at the services.
Wyvette Mayberry
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Wyvette Mayberry, 46, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at Cookeville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Burris cemetery in Jackson County.
The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home.
Ms. Mayberry died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at her home.
She was born Oct. 25, 1961, in Nashville.
She resided with her parents, Henry Douglas and Carol Mayberry, in Cookeville and was a member of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, her family includes her fiance, George Norris; a son, Gregory Don Callahan of Henning; her daughter-in-law, Heather Callahan; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Gary Carney; grandchildren Autumn Callahan, Teresa Carney and Noah Carney; and a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Richard Thornsberry of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Ethel Cole and Dimple Mayberry; her great-grandmother, Lola Holloway; and her grandfathers.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Donations may be made to the Putnam County Animal Shelter.
Pastor Quintin Lee will officiate at the services.
